The Guardian for this meeting was Eliza. The comments are by Agatha.

    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Tura :))
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Agatha :))
    Agatha Macbeth: Evening all
    Tura Brezoianu: hi Eliza, Agatha
Agatha Macbeth: The pool looks cool
    Eliza Madrigal: it is!
Eliza Madrigal: the fountain keeps the water circulating well
    Agatha Macbeth nods
    --BELL--1.00
Agatha Macbeth: No need for chlorine
    Eliza Madrigal: right
Eliza Madrigal: maybe a few lily pads would be nice :)
    Agatha Macbeth: With frogs
    Eliza Madrigal: definitely frogs :)
Eliza Madrigal: I think I need to update firestorm... keep sticking when I first sign on
    Agatha Macbeth: Ribbit
    Agatha Macbeth: Sticking?
Eliza Madrigal: yes, when I try to type, the whole thing freezes
Agatha Macbeth ponders a stuck Liz
Eliza Madrigal: or when I do anything... adjusting anything
Agatha Macbeth: Are you on the latest?
Eliza Madrigal: It may be a good thing for the rest of you!
    Eliza Madrigal grins
    Agatha Macbeth: Noooo
Agatha Macbeth: We want you unstuck
    Eliza Madrigal: :) thanks
Agatha Macbeth: I couldn't imagine you quiet anyway!
Eliza Madrigal: No, I haven't updated recently so I'm sure it isn't the latest
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah
    Agatha Macbeth: 55786 most recent
    Eliza Madrigal: I'm on 52912
Agatha Macbeth: That would be the previous one I think
Eliza Madrigal: Sorry to miss dream session this week! And thanks for posting the session Agatha
    Agatha Macbeth: YW
Agatha Macbeth: Yes we missed you
Eliza Madrigal: It was a good conversation
Agatha Macbeth: But at least you had the consolation of the log
Agatha Macbeth: And Stormy's teeth :p
Eliza Madrigal loves that phrase "The Consolation of the Log"
    Agatha Macbeth: Mmm
Agatha Macbeth: They are consoling I think
    Tura Brezoianu: The Log Lady
    Agatha Macbeth: HA!
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
    Agatha Macbeth: Poor Laura
Eliza Madrigal: always feel a little bereft when I click the wiki and there are no recent changes
    Agatha Macbeth smiles
Eliza Madrigal: I'm probably the only PaB-er who watched the recent Twin Peaks series
Eliza Madrigal: and definitely the only one who enjoyed it, hah
Agatha Macbeth: We are a small but vibrant community
Tura Brezoianu: A new Twin Peaks series?
Eliza Madrigal: It is the 25 year later follow up
Eliza Madrigal: "The Return"... finished about a year ago
Agatha Macbeth: I'll catch it on video sometime
    Agatha Macbeth: DVD rather
Agatha Macbeth: Still call them videos, old habits
Eliza Madrigal: dedicate a lot of attention.... it is like mazes within mazes
    Agatha Macbeth: Never!
Eliza Madrigal: Lynch had a lot of control
Agatha Macbeth: Well you do surprise me :p
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Agatha Macbeth: It's still way clearer than Eraserhead
Eliza Madrigal: most of it anyway!
    Agatha Macbeth: Indeed
Eliza Madrigal: I've come to love that film, although the first time I watched it I felt... "let me out"
Agatha Macbeth: As most do :P
    Eliza Madrigal: yes :)
Agatha Macbeth: Even someone on acid would find that weird
Tura Brezoianu: I had flashbacks from it for a long time, every time I heard a lamb bleating
    Eliza Madrigal: oh god
    Eliza Madrigal: hahha
    Agatha Macbeth: Hehe
Agatha Macbeth: The woman in the radiator
Eliza Madrigal: I think he is one of those people that have a lock
Eliza Madrigal: and when the key turns you can see and hear everything differently
Agatha Macbeth: There seems something almost fated about Jack Nance dying in a fight in a donut bar
Eliza Madrigal: what? Is that true?
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh yes
    Agatha Macbeth: Check wiki
Eliza Madrigal: what an odd story
Agatha Macbeth: Surrealism at its best
Eliza Madrigal: I don't dare check anything now, would freeze, but yes indeed
Agatha Macbeth: Except for Bunuel of course :)

    Mise en Scene

Eliza Madrigal: we didn't get too far with the PaB film club I guess
    Agatha Macbeth: Gaya's?
    Eliza Madrigal: Gaya's
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
    Agatha Macbeth: Snap
    Agatha Macbeth: Mis en scene
Agatha Macbeth: I remember it well
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe we could talk about films as well as books
Agatha Macbeth: Shame the café's gone tho
Eliza Madrigal: well, lots of building going on around here,or talk of building
Eliza Madrigal: so could circulate some ideas
Eliza Madrigal: What films would relate to our focuses?
    --BELL--1.15
Agatha Macbeth: On the subject of JN...

Agatha Macbeth: Nance died in South Pasadena, California, on December 30, 1996, under mysterious circumstances. On December 29, he lunched with friends Leo Bulgarini and Catherine Case. Nance had a visible "crescent shaped bruise" under his eye; and, when asked about it, he related to them the story about a brawl outside a Winchell's Donuts store on the morning of December 29. He described the incident as, "I told off some kid. I guess I got what I deserved." He soon went home, complaining of a headache. The injuries he received caused a subdural hematoma, resulting in his death the following morning. Nance died alone in his apartment. His body was discovered on the bathroom floor by Bulgarini. An autopsy revealed that the actor's blood alcohol level was 0.24% at the time of his death.

Tura Brezoianu: "Meetings With Remarkable Men?"
Eliza Madrigal: ty Agatha, sad story... concussion and then drinking :(
Agatha Macbeth: Oh that would be good
Eliza Madrigal: Is there a film?
Agatha Macbeth: Yes, so not actually in a bar, but afterwards
Agatha Macbeth: And yes there is
Agatha Macbeth: Made quite a while ago now i think
Tura Brezoianu: Yes, by Peter Brook
Agatha Macbeth: I remember his Hamlet well
    Eliza Madrigal: whoa, didn't know
Eliza Madrigal: I think I still have that book on my kindle
Eliza Madrigal: I'd love to do a session (more if goes well) on that...
Agatha Macbeth: Doesn't surprise me :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Yes
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe something to float
Agatha Macbeth: If we can get Mick away from the kids
Eliza Madrigal: we could just plan it, announce, watch, then show up :))
Eliza Madrigal: I've been knocking at the Gurdjieff topics for many years but can't say they are 'open' for me
    Agatha Macbeth: Sounds good
Agatha Macbeth: He tends to produce pretty varied reactions I find
Agatha Macbeth: Most people see him as either a genius or a faker, depending on taste
    Agatha Macbeth: No grey areas
    Eliza Madrigal: that's understandable
Tura Brezoianu: I wonder if he was both at the same time
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
    Agatha Macbeth: Hehe
    Agatha Macbeth: Could be
Eliza Madrigal: what about, if you isolate what he said or enacted...
Eliza Madrigal: is there something of value?
Agatha Macbeth: I think there is
Agatha Macbeth: The fourth way and the 'sleepwalking' thing certainly
Eliza Madrigal: Remind of the 'sleepwalking thing'?
Bleu Oleander's current display-name is "Bleu".
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bleu :))
Agatha Macbeth: He basically believed we are none of us fully conscious
    Bleu Oleander: hiya :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Hi Bleuji
Agatha Macbeth: Unless we train our minds to be 'fully awake'
    Tura Brezoianu: hi Bleu
Agatha Macbeth: Give that girl a notecard! :)

    (I did)

Eliza Madrigal: we're talking about Gurdjieff, films, anything, etc. ^.^ But wondering if maybe we could do a few sessions after watching a film... maybe "Meetings with Remarkable Men"
Bleu Oleander: films could be fun
Agatha Macbeth: Yes we were thinking that too
Eliza Madrigal: That sleepwalking notion was probably much more radical then... now people use that kind of terminology and maybe think they/we understand it
Agatha Macbeth: Remembering Gaya's club in the old café
Bleu Oleander: what is "Meetings with Remarkable Men"
    Agatha Macbeth: Book/film by Gurdjieff
    Bleu Oleander: thanks
    Agatha Macbeth: YW :)
Agatha Macbeth: I think Gaya primarily did her thing for Boxy, but then typically he never used to show up :P
Eliza Madrigal: I've never seen the film but am familiar with the book..might be a very good way to talk about the material
    Eliza Madrigal: Oh :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Good old Alf
Agatha Macbeth: Wonder how Gaya is these days?
Eliza Madrigal: Stim surprised me by being very interested in films... would often suggest people go see a movie to sort of get out of their own heads
Agatha Macbeth: Depends on the film I guess :p
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Agatha Macbeth: Imagine seeing Eraserhead to accomplish that!
    Eliza Madrigal: ha ha ha
    --BELL--1.30
Agatha Macbeth: Out of your head and everyone else's
Tura Brezoianu: Inside David Lynch's head
Tura Brezoianu: Not a nice place to be
    Agatha Macbeth: But interesting
Agatha Macbeth: I guess disturbing is interesting
Agatha Macbeth: Or maybe that's just me
Agatha Macbeth: As in 'interesting times'
Eliza Madrigal: I never liked things like that early on... took some kind of turn and began to hear/see it differently than I had, appreciate it a lot more.
Agatha Macbeth: By early on you mean when you were young?
Eliza Madrigal: Some of that is due to my son, who sees things so differently than I do, and began pointing out things in films I'd never given much attention to
    Agatha Macbeth: Kids eh
Eliza Madrigal nods... he notices all the color schemes and angles and the technicalities I used to try not to see
    Agatha Macbeth: Smart boy
Eliza Madrigal: so a little like going through an art gallery with someone who has been to art school, except he hasn't... he just sees it
    Agatha Macbeth nods
Bleu Oleander: we all see things differently from each other
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Agatha Macbeth: "I'm unique - just like everyone else"
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bleu Oleander: perception is personal even tho we think others see what we see :)
    Agatha Macbeth: True dat
Eliza Madrigal: some do have a way of imparting
Eliza Madrigal: of showing others what they see, or giving them that view, if only for a moment
    Agatha Macbeth: Doors of perception
Bleu Oleander: yes that's the value of sharing with others
    Agatha Macbeth: Stereoscopic viewpoint
Bleu Oleander: that's why its fun to come here :)
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
    Agatha Macbeth: Indeed
Agatha Macbeth: Must be some reason why we all keep turning up :)
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Eliza Madrigal: So should we try to see the see the film? Then we can meet and see if we can see what each other sees
Eliza Madrigal: should probably check online and see if easily available
Bleu Oleander: not sure what the film is about?
Eliza Madrigal: Is it about Gurdjieff, or is it a kind of take-off using the title?

Agatha Macbeth: Meetings with Remarkable Men is a 1979 British film directed by Peter Brook and based on the book of the same name by Greek-Armenian mystic, G. I. Gurdjieff, first published in English in 1963. Shot on location in Afghanistan (except for dance sequences, which were filmed in England), it starred Terence Stamp, and Dragan Maksimović as the adult Gurdjieff. The film was entered into the 29th Berlin International Film Festival and nominated for the Golden Bear. The plot involves Gurdjieff and his companions' search for truth in a series of dialogues and vignettes, much as in the book. Unlike the book, these result in a definite climax—Gurdjieff's initiation into the mysterious Sarmoung Brotherhood. The film is noteworthy for making public some glimpses of the Gurdjieff movements

Eliza Madrigal: That's great Agatha, thank you
Eliza Madrigal: thankfully the log expands as needed!
Tura Brezoianu: In effect it's a film of scenes from the book.
Agatha Macbeth: The Golden Bear sounds good!
Agatha Macbeth: The bees are buzzing again
Eliza Madrigal: Nice. If we can all find it, sounds like a good idea, and those who don't see it may have thoughts on him/his work in general, so no need to leave anyone out
Eliza Madrigal: We had a session on Her, I remember... enjoyed that
    Bleu Oleander: https://www.amazon.com/Meetings-Rema...70_&dpSrc=srch
Bleu Oleander: can rent on amazon
    Eliza Madrigal: Oh, good!
Agatha Macbeth: So will we discussing this next Thursday?
Eliza Madrigal: hm, or maybe give 2 weeks, to give others a chance? what do you think?
    Agatha Macbeth: Could do
Agatha Macbeth: Some may be on holiday
    --BELL--1.45
Agatha Macbeth: Would be great to see Bruce again
Eliza Madrigal: have to sign on Saturdays
Eliza Madrigal: he hosts at this time then
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh nice
Eliza Madrigal: sadly, I rarely make it but as you say, there is the consolation of the log
Agatha Macbeth: Would be nice to hear his views (and others)
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Eliza Madrigal: I think Calvino was very familiar with Gurdjieff
Eliza Madrigal: not sure who else but, anyway all I can do is send an invite :)
Agatha Macbeth: Haven't seen Cal in ages
Bleu Oleander: I think he only comes in for OF
Agatha Macbeth: Is that still going?
    Eliza Madrigal: makes sense
    Eliza Madrigal: oh yes
    Bleu Oleander: every wed
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh my
    Agatha Macbeth: Never knew
Bleu Oleander: private I think tho
    Agatha Macbeth: Yes
Agatha Macbeth: Would probably be over my head anyway
Eliza Madrigal: they meet in the retreat space
    Agatha Macbeth: Nice
Eliza Madrigal: it isn't that no one new can join, but they only open up occasionally
Eliza Madrigal: and also the meetings are very long
Agatha Macbeth: Ah yes, I remember seeing the stick there
Eliza Madrigal: it is a more ritualistic time I think, and has things in place to give space
Eliza Madrigal: which I appreciate, but when we do things like that in PaB sessions it is more limited
    Agatha Macbeth nods
Eliza Madrigal: and, we log everything, which they decidedly do not do :)
Agatha Macbeth: Yes Darren didn't care for the logging
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Eliza Madrigal: I've successfully resisted buying all the books we talked about last time
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Bleu Oleander: I've been using our library lately ... really cool how you can 'borrow' ebooks and audio books for free with library cards these days
Eliza Madrigal: I set that up at some point but have never used it... easy?
    Bleu Oleander: very
Bleu Oleander: lots more available now
Eliza Madrigal: can you borrow digital audio books?
Bleu Oleander: movies, ebooks, audio books
    Agatha Macbeth: Good to hear
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: can have them sent to your kindle
Eliza Madrigal: libraries are pretty amazing these days but I find myself going only to use the printer :(
Eliza Madrigal: used to live in them when kids were little :)
Bleu Oleander: its all available online ... don't need to go anymore
    Eliza Madrigal: that's really great
    Bleu Oleander: it is!
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, and actually I forgot about the yoga classes and meditation group I attended for a while
Eliza Madrigal: right in the library, was wonderful
Agatha Macbeth: Yoga in a library?
    Eliza Madrigal: mhm :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Okaaay
Eliza Madrigal: It is a service given by the hospital
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh nice
Eliza Madrigal: it is where I took a chair pilates class once that actually blew me away
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe they do things differently in FL :p
Eliza Madrigal: if you exercise your fingers and toes, it reaches the muscles in your back!
Eliza Madrigal: :) Well, we're a place for retirees, so our hospital takes half the town, hehe
Agatha Macbeth: Hm, what I need
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh right
    --BELL--2.00
    Eliza Madrigal: sorry, tangential today
    Eliza Madrigal hangs head
Agatha Macbeth: Nothing wrong with that
Agatha Macbeth: Frank Zappa did it all the time
Eliza Madrigal: a friend's book is coming out in October actually... some hybrid of self and publisher publishing, and I was trying to figure out the best place to host a talk about it. I haven't brought up the idea of her making an avatar yet
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Tura Brezoianu: what's the book about?
Agatha Macbeth: Just don't tell her about mesh :p
    Eliza Madrigal: Really interesting actually...
Eliza Madrigal: it is a memoir based on her exploration of her family's history and the holocaust
Eliza Madrigal: she's Buddhist and studied with Trungpa Rinpoche...
Eliza Madrigal: which sort of took her away from her family history for a while, but as an adult she began integrating and learning more
Eliza Madrigal: and visiting Poland, learning the language
    Agatha Macbeth: Dobrze :)
Eliza Madrigal: She writes very well... thoughtfully and layered
    Agatha Macbeth: I like layers
Agatha Macbeth: And getting beneath them
Eliza Madrigal: I found it fascinating, especially the cross cultural aspects
Agatha Macbeth: Yep those are always good
Eliza Madrigal: I also related to trying to understand one's family, ancestors, etc.
Eliza Madrigal: when you are older you can feel more of what they may have gone through, what may have closed them off in certain ways, etc
Agatha Macbeth: 'Understanding one's family'...now *there* is a subject!
    Eliza Madrigal: :) indeed
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Agatha Macbeth: I never quite managed it somehow
Eliza Madrigal: I'm not sure one ever arrives entirely
Bleu Oleander: its an ongoing process
    Eliza Madrigal: but some progress?
Bleu Oleander: we change, they all change ...
Bleu Oleander: showing up for thanksgiving can be a shock sometimes LOL
    Eliza Madrigal: YES
Agatha Macbeth: Would be a shock here alright
Eliza Madrigal: or living with the ongoing weirdness of not showing up
    Bleu Oleander: that too :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Agatha Macbeth: Nothing wrong with ongoing weirdness
    Eliza Madrigal laughs
Eliza Madrigal: sometimes it is hard to even keep the will open to understand
Bleu Oleander: it can always seem like ongoing weirdness these days! ha!
Eliza Madrigal: well that's certainly true
Eliza Madrigal sees a new tag in her future "ongoing weirdness"
    Bleu Oleander: ha!
    Agatha Macbeth pulls Liz's ponytail
Eliza Madrigal: but I think what I learned from her, a little anyway, is that it is possible to allow all the complexity and that it isn't a rubber stamp on things being okay, to keep a light on
Eliza Madrigal yells ouch (on a delay, hah)
    Agatha Macbeth: 'Walking sleep' :p
    Agatha Macbeth: Or waking even
    Eliza Madrigal: waking walking
    Agatha Macbeth: Or something
    Eliza Madrigal: or other
Agatha Macbeth: I can see Edie's yurt behind me
    --BELL--2.15
Eliza Madrigal: the thing with sleepwalking, and waking up, and awakening, and enlightenment, is... at least for me, I came to start thinking I understood what it would mean
Eliza Madrigal: I've sort of lost confidence in that
Eliza Madrigal: (picking up from earlier, with regard to Gurdjieff)
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh
Bleu Oleander: I don't know what it means really
Agatha Macbeth: Will you float the film idea in email Liz?
Eliza Madrigal: yes I will :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Yay
Agatha Macbeth: Will be intersesting to see the response
Bleu Oleander: gotta get back to rl ... nice to see you all
Eliza Madrigal: bye Bleu, good to see you too
    Bleu Oleander: take care
    Agatha Macbeth: TC Bleuji
    Agatha Macbeth: Love to doggy
Agatha Macbeth: Speaking of which, how's George?
Eliza Madrigal: he's fine... has gotten too fat
    Agatha Macbeth: Awwww
Eliza Madrigal: I haven't been walking him as much, so hot
    Agatha Macbeth: Yeh
Eliza Madrigal: and I think he's bored too... seeing me on the computer all the time
Eliza Madrigal: or maybe I'm projecting :))
Agatha Macbeth: Shame they can't walk themselves
Eliza Madrigal: not when you live in an apartment anyway
    Agatha Macbeth: Right
Eliza Madrigal: he needs to be taken to the doggie park, etc
Eliza Madrigal: :) but thanks for asking... will pass along your inquiry, lol
Agatha Macbeth: With all the retired people :p
    Eliza Madrigal laughs
Tura Brezoianu: Time for me to be going
    Agatha Macbeth: BFN Tu
Eliza Madrigal: cute dress Tura :))
Agatha Macbeth: Yeh, never seen your legs before
    Agatha Macbeth: Looks cool too
Tura Brezoianu: tx, I like yours too. Vintage flexis :)
    Eliza Madrigal: ty ^.^
Eliza Madrigal: and with little added flowers
    Agatha Macbeth: Flexi!
    Tura Brezoianu: goodnight all
    Agatha Macbeth: Nighty night
Eliza Madrigal: Night :) Thanks for film rec!!
Eliza Madrigal: Alma might be interested in this too, if she could make the session
    Agatha Macbeth: Yes, great
Eliza Madrigal: she was reading along these lines during 99 Days I think
    Eliza Madrigal: *I remember
Agatha Macbeth: Again I never got into it
Eliza Madrigal: that's okay, you can make it up by teaching/enlightening me about upcoming material
    Agatha Macbeth: OK then
    Eliza Madrigal grins
    Agatha Macbeth: It's a deal
    Eliza Madrigal shakes
    Agatha Macbeth: Symbiosis
Eliza Madrigal: btw Eden said she accidentally deleted the yurt but sorted it out
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: have a peaceful rest of the night <3
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh lord
    Agatha Macbeth: Trust her
    Agatha Macbeth: You too
    Agatha Macbeth: BFN
    Eliza Madrigal: bfn <3
