A new visitor arrived, Pattrick Euler. He could not stay long, this time, but we briefly talked about the reasons why we use text rather than voice, in these Play as Being meetings:

Pema Pera: we don’t use voice here
    Pema Pera: only text
Pema Pera: for a handful of reasons
    Pattrick Euler: logs
Pema Pera: yes, and in a group anyone can type
    Pema Pera: without interrupting others
Pema Pera: while when we use voice
Pema Pera: it is very hard to know when someone else is finished
    Pema Pera: no visual cues
Pema Pera: Also — to my suprise — there is a sense of peace in texting
Pema Pera: not sure exactly how to summarize that
Storm Nordwind: It is as you say though about the peace
Pema Pera: how would you express it, Storm?
Storm Nordwind: It comes to experienced text chatters. There is no need to feel as though you have to rush to say things nor that what you say will be ignored
Storm Nordwind: At first with text it is like any other medium - all rush
Storm Nordwind: After a while comes peace indeed
Pema Pera: yes, good point Storm!
Storm Nordwind: And - no one goes unnoticed. Unless they think they are!
    Pema Pera: yes!
    Pema Pera: text transcends time
Pema Pera: at least for intervals of less than a minute
Pema Pera: whereas spoken words make every second count
Pema Pera: also, text prevent you from being too long-winded

At that point Sky stopped by, and soon afterwards Pattrick and Storm both left.
Sky and I talked about smiley conventions in America and Japan, :-) and (^_^), respectively. Since no one else came by, I gave Sky a brief tour of the surroundings. Doing so was fun for me too: explaining basic camera maneuvers and chatting and IM options, etc, made me relive my early days in SL, not too long ago.
