That evening started off quietly, but after a while Cid called me.
IM: Cid Jacobs: heya pema
IM: Pema Pera: Hi Cid!
IM: Pema Pera: How are you!
IM: Cid Jacobs: how are you
IM: Cid Jacobs: good
IM: Pema Pera: fine too
IM: Thanks again for the prayer wheel
IM: Cid Jacobs: np
IM: Cid Jacobs: i was actually wondering
IM: Cid Jacobs: if you wouldnt mind taking a look at something for me, its something else im working on for the group
IM: Pema Pera: oh sure, I’m happy to.
Cid Jacobs gave you Buddha Hud NRC 0.1.0.
IM: Cid Jacobs: its not working yet, but its sort of a mock up of what im trying to get to
IM: Pema Pera: Wanna come over?
IM: Cid Jacobs: sure
Pema Pera: Hi Cid!
Cid Jacobs: yo
Pema Pera: Very pretty HUD
Pema Pera: what does it do?
Cid Jacobs: ty
Cid Jacobs: well
Cid Jacobs: this is the first 1/2 of it
Cid Jacobs: the little bar in the top right
Cid Jacobs: will keep count of how many times you rotate the prayer wheel
Cid Jacobs: up to 108 times
Cid Jacobs: and the three jewels, they will play a bow animation, so you can bow to the buddha, the dharma or sangha
Cid Jacobs: the three buttons deal with sounds and resetting the count and such
Pema Pera: wow
Pema Pera: elaborate!
Cid Jacobs: next im gonna add on a meditation timer for the top cornor of it
Pema Pera: so this will help you practice
Cid Jacobs: indeed
Pema Pera: saying prayers and mantras
Pema Pera: that’s great! It’s nice to use technology
Pema Pera: to help you do those ancient rituals!
Cid Jacobs: yea :}
Pema Pera: so while you are walking around or talking
Pema Pera: you can also rotate the prayer wheel
Cid Jacobs: indeed :}
Cid Jacobs: im gonna work on making it “pretty” once i get it a bit more fleshed out
It was indeed a very nice HUD, with vivid colors and a good lay-out.
Pema Pera: it’s already quite pretty!
Cid Jacobs: ty, i only spent about 20 mins on the whole project so far, hopefully this weekend ill get a bit more time for it
Pema Pera: what is the picture of the man at the bottom right
Pema Pera: a Buddha?
Cid Jacobs: yea, very stylised and animated
Pema Pera: but the animation doesn’t work yet?
Cid Jacobs: not yet
Cid Jacobs: it will soon though :}
Cid Jacobs: im prbly gonna play around with the design some more tonight, the scripting shouldnt take more than an hour or so
Pema Pera: The color scheme is great
Pema Pera: And the prayer wheel too
Pema Pera: I’m not quite sure about the Buddha picture . . . but then again I haven’t seen the animation yet
Cid Jacobs: yea, its more of a place holder atm
Pema Pera: okay
Cid Jacobs: like i said, still messing with getting everything laid out
Pema Pera: sounds like fun!
Cid Jacobs: the only part that i am actually happy with currently is the bodhi leaf and the three jewels
Pema Pera: yes that is very pretty indeed!
Cid Jacobs: :}
Cid Jacobs: so the buddha needs to be changed, the color scheme is working and i need to make it a bit more “friendly” to use
Cid Jacobs: i think i can work with that :}
Pema Pera: sounds like a good project!
Cid Jacobs: indeed, i havent told dakini yet, im hoping she will like it when i show her
Pema Pera: I think she will!
Pema Pera: I wish you good luck!
Cid Jacobs: thanks :}
Cid Jacobs: well, i guess ill leave you for now, im going to tinker a bit more :}
Cid Jacobs: thanks for checking it out for me :D
Pema Pera: sure, yw!
Cid Jacobs: be well :}
Pema Pera: you too!
At this point, NeitherNorist materialized inside the tea house. As often happens to those who are new to SL, when they rezz in the same place they were last, they don’t necessarily know the context and surroundings of the place to land in.
Pema Pera: Hi NN!
NeitherNorist Ohl: hey pp, where are you?
Pema Pera: outside, on a stone bench
Pema Pera: wanna come out?
Pema Pera: It’s a nice day here.
NeitherNorist Ohl: i need to find the door first
I swiveled my camera position into the tea house, and saw NN flying just underneath the ceiling, too high to make it through the door. I had to think about my first few days in SL, how confusing much of it had been to me.
Pema Pera: no need to fly inside
Pema Pera: you can just walk out
Pema Pera: left click on the door
Pema Pera: and it will open
Pema Pera: put your cursor on the door
Pema Pera: there you go!
NeitherNorist Ohl: how are you?
Pema Pera: welcome outside!
NeitherNorist Ohl: thanks.
Pema Pera: I’m fine. How about you?
NeitherNorist Ohl: you are by yourself?
NeitherNorist Ohl: I’m fine, too, thanks.
Pema Pera: Cid just dropped by
Pema Pera: and left just when you came
Pema Pera: Cid Jacobs
Pema Pera: one of the oldtimers here in this area
NeitherNorist Ohl: it is really pretty here
Pema Pera: isn’t it!
NeitherNorist Ohl: amazing
NeitherNorist Ohl: is it night time here?
Pema Pera: you can change the light
NeitherNorist Ohl: i don’t know how to
Pema Pera: world->environment settings
Pema Pera: you can choose what time of day you like to see
NeitherNorist Ohl: wow, isn’t that something!
NeitherNorist Ohl: somebody is flying by
At this type a new visitor landed. We greeted her and started a brief conversation. It was a bit of a tangle, since the visitor happened to be Dutch, like me, and English and Dutch expressions got mixed. Then our old friend Types stopped by.
Types Sideways: Hi Pema
Pema Pera: oh, hi Types!
Pema Pera: Good seeing you here!
Types Sideways: you too
Pema Pera: you are different once again!
Pema Pera: Types,
Pema Pera: we were chatting in Dutch
Pema Pera: sorry about that!
Types Sideways: thats fine
Pema Pera: Hope you don’t mind
Types Sideways: no problem
Pema Pera: great robe!
Types Sideways: ty
Pema Pera: you have the most amazing wardrobe!
Pema Pera: Types, we were about to take off
Pema Pera: sorry that we have little time
Types Sideways: I just like this place
Types Sideways: Its just been a coincidence that I show up during your discussions
Pema Pera: that’s fine, Types!
Pema Pera: Always good to see you
Types Sideways: you too
Pema Pera: drop by again, any time!
