2014.10.28 18:00 - travels and stories

The Guardian for this meeting was Eos Amaterasu. The comments are by Eos Amaterasu.

    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Korel
    Korel Laloix: Osiyo Eos.
Eos Amaterasu: Great to see you, Korel
Korel Laloix: A bit early today?
Korel Laloix: Thanks... how have you been?
Eos Amaterasu: Actually, I switched to an hour earlier for this session, so it works better with my time zone, and still is in a zone where there could be people
Eos Amaterasu: but usually it's empty
Eos Amaterasu: How are you doing? And where are you doing?
Korel Laloix: Not sure when we change, guess I need to figure that out.
Korel Laloix: I am back in Oklahoma now.
    Korel Laloix: Back from Africa.
Eos Amaterasu: How was it there, and how is it to be back?
Eos Amaterasu: Are you the same Korel?
Korel Laloix: Very changing... still processing.
Korel Laloix: Think I will have to let things settle fo ra while i my head and heart.
Korel Laloix: Glad I went, but not sure I would ever go back.
Eos Amaterasu: You were working with the ebola situation?
Korel Laloix: Not really.. doing Ebola research, but 4500 miles from the present outbreak.
Korel Laloix: So nothing that dangerous or heroic.
Eos Amaterasu: but still, trying to figure it out....
Eos Amaterasu: it's life and life only
Korel Laloix: A lot of things I am unsure of. But nothing I can't work out someway.
Korel Laloix: What you been up to?
Eos Amaterasu: more mundane stuff... one major transition is selling (or trying to) a house
Eos Amaterasu: discovering all kinds of situations are houses are embedded in, like water and sewage systems
Korel Laloix: Never had to deal with that.. but sounds complicated.

    --BELL--

Eos Amaterasu: generations of our ancestors have created actually pretty complex and sophisticated systems to keep us alive and well....
Korel Laloix: I know.. been learning about plubing and electrical helping doing repairs at this homeless shelter. Amazing how complicated it all is.
Eos Amaterasu: we've built, and also inhabited a pre-existing, helpful matrix for living
Korel Laloix: Roads, electricity, gass, hospitals, gasoline, all the stuff we take for granted.
Eos Amaterasu: also the stories that help create an "us" and give us meaning
Eos Amaterasu: some stories run wild and amuck over our world
Korel Laloix: All are good in most ways I think.
Eos Amaterasu: "he who dies with the most toys wins"
    Eos Amaterasu: that's a story
Eos Amaterasu: famous quote: the world is made of stories, not atoms
Korel Laloix: I Don't think most people actually believe that though.
Korel Laloix: I like that. stories not atoms.
Eos Amaterasu: but we have automated systems that have been programmed to believe that story
Eos Amaterasu: yeah, the stories of physics and atoms and quarks and strings and mathematical whisps are getting weirder and weirder
Eos Amaterasu: these are such whisps as we are made of
Eos Amaterasu: and then there are the local stories that touch some kind of depth of feeling, care
Eos Amaterasu: I was looking at the almost translucent fingers of a baby moving today
Korel Laloix: OH nice.. your baby?
Eos Amaterasu: no, just someone in the supermarket
Eos Amaterasu: how does OK feel now?

    --BELL--

    Korel Laloix: Sorry... was afk.
Korel Laloix: Good.. glad to be back.
Korel Laloix: But stuck at home.
Korel Laloix: A bit confined with this mild quarentine.
    Eos Amaterasu: oh!
Korel Laloix: My work did not want the public appearance of me comming back to work directly.
Korel Laloix: So they are paying me to stay at home and work on certifications and courses.
Eos Amaterasu: there's a plus side....
Eos Amaterasu: are you getting a medical degree?
Korel Laloix: Not sure yet.. will either do a PhD or a DVM. Not an MD.
Korel Laloix: Just not sure which yet. Maybe both.
    Eos Amaterasu: DVM?
Korel Laloix: Dr of Vet Medicine
Korel Laloix: Animal doctor I should say.
Eos Amaterasu: seems we need to establish a new balance with animals, especially re the way we eat them
Eos Amaterasu: and how they live before that

    --BELL--

Korel Laloix: Well, before we figure out weapons they ate us... lol.. so maybe this is just our revenge... grins
Eos Amaterasu: c'est la vie :-)
Eos Amaterasu: speaking of which, do you know Tanya Tagaq? Inuit throat singer, all about life: 4 l8r, trailer from Animism, her new album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItYoFr3LpDw
Eos Amaterasu: I feel some gratitude toward the early cyanobacteria, who a couple of billion years ago first started skimming energy from the sun
Korel Laloix: I know the name.
Eos Amaterasu: and then they merged with our early cell ancestors to form chloroplasts who could also bask in the sun's energy :-)
    Eos Amaterasu: bacteria r us
Korel Laloix: well at least the politicians... smiles
Eos Amaterasu: hmm, yes... ideally, politicians tell "real" stories
Eos Amaterasu: (or stories that become real, that we can get behind)
Eos Amaterasu: but more often they tell stories that get them re-elected
Korel Laloix: Unfortunately that is correct. Oh well.
Korel Laloix: Sad to think about really.
Eos Amaterasu: I think every once in a while someone "real" comes around
Eos Amaterasu: but even that is usually a mixed picture
Eos Amaterasu: but we can have mercy toward each other :-)
Eos Amaterasu: and pay homage to whatever good we can find
Korel Laloix: Getting a little harder these days.
Eos Amaterasu: i thought it was great that a Pakistani Muslim and an Indian Hindu won the Nobel peace prize
Eos Amaterasu: there's a video clip of Malala stopping Jon Stewart's mind
Eos Amaterasu: a little gap of a moment
    Eos Amaterasu: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrWttENgWNE
    Eos Amaterasu: maybe I'm a pushover :-)
Eos Amaterasu: anyway, cheers, I must go
Eos Amaterasu: Glad you dropped by

    --BELL--

Korel Laloix: I think that was a meaningful prize. For the most part though I don't think the Peace prize means much any more.
    Eos Amaterasu: No, you're right
Korel Laloix: Sick and sad what goes on in that part of the world.
Eos Amaterasu: hmm, yes.... seems to also spring up here as well (like Canada)
Korel Laloix: We had a muslim beheading here in Oklahoma month ago.
Eos Amaterasu: plus Mexican drug cartels that decapitate hundreds a year
Eos Amaterasu: Urk, grim world in so many ways
Korel Laloix: Amazes me that people don't look at the lack of rights for us in places like Saudia Arabia and think that is completely cultural with nothing to do with the religion.
Eos Amaterasu: that's a topic, but must go - good night, Korel!
    Korel Laloix: Take care.. caio
