The Guardian for this meeting was Wol.

    Wol Euler: hallo berti
Bertram Jacobus: hi wol good morning !
    Wol Euler: how are you?
Bertram Jacobus: ty. can´t tell - how are you ? ;-)
    Wol Euler: awwwww
    Wol Euler: I'm fine-ish
    Bertram Jacobus: yay :-)

Wol Euler: I will have to leave early, I'm working today
    Bertram Jacobus: oh
Wol Euler: we have a competition due in mid-May and I have a two week holiday booked between now and then
    Bertram Jacobus: i see
Wol Euler: it was booked last summer, things looked very different then
Bertram Jacobus: when will you leave ?
Wol Euler: next monday (not tomorrow)
Bertram Jacobus: i see - and where will you go ?! :-)
    Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: toronto for a few days, to see my father, then Washington DC for a week (opera tour) then a few days of Toronto again
    Bertram Jacobus: wow
Bertram Jacobus: and ... your mother ?
Wol Euler: she's going to DC with me
    Bertram Jacobus: wow cool
Wol Euler: my father is in a nursing home, has been for three years now
Bertram Jacobus: they don´t live together ?
Wol Euler: that's why I mentioned him in the context of Toronto
Bertram Jacobus: ah - yes - ok - i see
Wol Euler: no, she is still fit
Bertram Jacobus: hope all is as well as possible - no - i think so (?) ... ;-)
Bertram Jacobus: hi there qt ! :-)
    Qt Core: Hi Wol, Bertram
    Wol Euler: well, yes
    Wol Euler: hello Qt
Wol Euler: nice to see you again
Bertram Jacobus: good nursing home ?

Wol Euler: my father is slowly declining, as he has been for years now, since his stroke
Wol Euler: as these places go, yes it is a good one
Wol Euler: compared to home, it's appalling, but he cannot live at home
Wol Euler: my mother is 85, she cannot care for him
    Bertram Jacobus: woow
Wol Euler: they try, they do their best, but it is an institution and as such not a real home
Wol Euler: the noise never stops
Wol Euler: there is no privacy, there is no agency (no free will)
    Bertram Jacobus: hmmm :-(
Qt Core: at some point those last two get lost even when cared at home
Bertram Jacobus: what kind of "stroke" was it ?
    Bertram Jacobus: sry
Bertram Jacobus: i did not understand what you mean, sry qt
    Wol Euler: true, qt
Qt Core: an ill elder, even when cared at home (like my mother) lose privacy and initiative even at home
    Wol Euler nods.

    --BELL--

Bertram Jacobus: now i understood. ty !
Wol Euler: sorry to have put a gloomy note on the meeting
Wol Euler: we started talking about holidays and opera actually
Wol Euler: I'm going to DC the week after next, to see the Ring Cycle again
Qt Core: all of it ? in how many sessions ?
Bertram Jacobus: hmmm - i think, that were my question which lead to those "gloomy elements" ... so ... may be the sry i had to say ? ...
Qt Core: sometimes i found understanding opera singers singing in italian even harder than spoken english ;-)
Wol Euler: yes, the entire cycle, spread over a week

Wol Euler: most opera houses now have subtitles in some for or other
Wol Euler: the Met in New York has a personal display on the back of the seat in front of you, you can choose english or the original language (or off)

Qt Core: that's good but then you miss the scene... it should be holographic ;-)
Qt Core: or via googe glass
Wol Euler: or an earbead automatic live translation
Qt Core: that would cover the music and singing
    Wol Euler: true
    Wol Euler: so: it's tricky

Qt Core: i have many booklet with opera lyrics from decades ago when my mother and her mother used to go to see opera and before that bought and read the lyrics
Bertram Jacobus: in former times people could enjoy opera without such additional "gimmicks" - may be better than now with such
    Bertram Jacobus: sry
Wol Euler: sure, berti. But perhaps they misheard the words just as much as we do ...
Qt Core: she lived just a couple km from La Scala... you may know the name ;-)
Bertram Jacobus: that is how i know that as well : people read it before or knew the stories anyway since already a long time
Wol Euler: that is still true today, I doubt if even one percent of the Washington audience will be seeing the Ring for the first time
Wol Euler: but nonetheless it is hard to follow the words

    --BELL--

Qt Core: then, especially if already seen and one knows the story he can just follow the music
    Qt Core: brb
Wol Euler: my dears, I have to leave now. I'm working this afternoon and need to get ready
    Wol Euler: enjoy your Sundays!
Bertram Jacobus: ok wol - have a godd time !
Wol Euler: I'll do my best :)
    Qt Core: bye Wol
Bertram Jacobus: and ty for for your service here ...
    Wol Euler: de nada :)
Wol Euler: ty Qt, take care
Bertram Jacobus: ok - i´ll leave as well - have a nice time as well please qt
Qt Core: :-) have fun, bye
    Bertram Jacobus: ty
