2016.06.21 13:00 - moments of breathing

The Guardian for this meeting was Ewan Bonham. The comments are by Riddle Sideways.

Riddle Sideways: howdee, deciding where to sit is hard
Riddle Sideways: for the first one
    Riddle Sideways: there, good choice :}
Tura Brezoianu: People seem to gravitate towards this side of the circle
    Tura Brezoianu: hi Ewan
    Riddle Sideways: hi Ewan
Ewan Bonham: Hi Riddle and Tura
Riddle Sideways: might not be able to stay the entire session
Riddle Sideways: people working on house

Ewan Bonham: How are you both today?
    Tura Brezoianu: I am fine
Riddle Sideways: rested after a music festival weekend
Riddle Sideways: great to be covered in dirt
Ewan Bonham: Ah, yes, I was out of town as well last weekend and am now feeling back to my energy..
Ewan Bonham: Yes, whatever feels comfortable for you..

Ewan Bonham: OK, we have another small group and I appreciate you being here..
Ewan Bonham: Today, we can continue to explore our moments of breathing.
Ewan Bonham: Breathing in itself is several steps.
Ewan Bonham: In mindfulness, we can break it down into several moments..
Ewan Bonham: And for each one, we can reflect on both internal and external sensations...
Ewan Bonham: At each step I will ask you a question or two and would enjoy hearing your reflections..
Ewan Bonham: As we go through the full breath, and put all the steps together, you may notice a shift within you of receiving the breath..
Ewan Bonham: And you may also feel a greater clarity in your surroundings..
Ewan Bonham: The whole deliberate process of breathing brings you to a slower and longer perception of moments and attention to all the moment has to offer
    --BELL--
Ewan Bonham: OK, are we ready?
    Riddle Sideways: ready
    Tura Brezoianu: ready
    Ewan Bonham: Good..
Ewan Bonham: In this first step... we will take in the air. Of course, after you take it in, you will exhale, BUT put your attention on when you are inhaling
Ewan Bonham: So, for this first step, draw your air in through your nostrils
Ewan Bonham: Draw it in slowly and evenly...
Ewan Bonham: Pay attention to the pace of your inhaling...
Ewan Bonham: Notice the coolness of the air as it comes into your nostrils..
Ewan Bonham: Notice any sensations the air gives you as you fill yourself..
Ewan Bonham: Notice the feeling as your diaphram expands..
Ewan Bonham: As you fill yourself up..
Ewan Bonham: Are you able to feel the flow of air and the change in temperature?
Ewan Bonham: Can you feel your muscles expand full to receive the air?
Ewan Bonham: Try the full inhale now and then I will ask what you felt..
Ewan Bonham: OK, what did each of you feel in the inhale?
Tura Brezoianu: I'm never aware of the muscles of the ribs and diaphragm when I breathe.
Tura Brezoianu: Strangely it always feels like it's the nose that does the breathing
Riddle Sideways: yes, the cooler air in, the muscles needed/used and the body/back straightening
Ewan Bonham: Soft smile... perhaps you are claiming a part of your body in this exercise...
Ewan Bonham: Riddle, it sounds like your inhale done consciously allows your whole body to efficiently welcome the air
Riddle Sideways: yes, seems that way
Ewan Bonham: OK, now take a few moments and inhale as we just did and this time hold in the air to a count of three... then exhale..
Ewan Bonham: See what sensations you feel in holding air in
Ewan Bonham: OK, what did that feel like for you?
Riddle Sideways: there is a stopping of a cycle and could hear heart beat clearer
Riddle Sideways: then a starting back up
Ewan Bonham: Nod... more conscious of your heart
Tura Brezoianu: I close my throat and relax my breathing muscles, and the weight of my ribcage presses the air downwards into my belly.
Ewan Bonham: Good... so now your belly is involved..
Ewan Bonham: That is the next step..
Ewan Bonham: So now, inhale as we have been and instead of holding in the air... allow yourself to 'fill your belly' with it..
    --BELL--
Ewan Bonham: OK, let's give this step a try and then tell me how it feels to your whole body to include filling your tummy
    Ewan Bonham: Reflections?
    Riddle Sideways: fat belly :)
Riddle Sideways: tickles down the spine
    Ewan Bonham: Smile
    Ewan Bonham: Ah... new sensations
Santoshima Resident: 's current display-name is "San".
    Ewan Bonham: Welcome San
Santoshima Resident: thank you, sorry to be late (per usual)
Ewan Bonham: We are doing concentrated breathing in steps..
    Santoshima Resident: ok, pls continue
Ewan Bonham: I will cut and paste and give you this chat in a private chat..
    Santoshima Resident: ty
    Riddle Sideways: brb
    Ewan Bonham: Tura, any thoughts?
Tura Brezoianu: I'm not sure what filling my belly without holding my breath is
Ewan Bonham: If you can think of a gradual filling as if you were filling a balloon...:)
Ewan Bonham: OK, now the last step..
Ewan Bonham: Inhale as we described above, let the air feel all the way down to your belly, expand your belly, hold for a count of three...then..
Ewan Bonham: Let the air come out between your lips slowly and evenly..
Ewan Bonham: Notice the ease of air flow and the sensation of air passing over your lips
Ewan Bonham: Try these combined steps now and then I will ask you to share..
    Ewan Bonham: Reflections?
Riddle Sideways: some breathes take concentration, others are more natural.
Riddle Sideways: some parts stick and have to start up again
Tura Brezoianu: I don't notice the sensation of the breath going out through the mouth
Ewan Bonham: With time, this whole body breath will feel natural..
    --BELL--
Ewan Bonham: Tura, try to direct your exhale out your mouth and let the air flow across your lips..
Ewan Bonham: Feel a slight tickle?
Tura Brezoianu: I can hear the breath if I keep my lips close together
    Ewan Bonham: Good...:)
    Ewan Bonham: OK... now..
Ewan Bonham: Please take three breaths using all the steps we have described... evenly and slowly, and notice in the background what happens to your mind..
Ewan Bonham: What happens in your thoughts..
Riddle Sideways: other worldly thoughts have been pushed out by "in through nose","that is enough'."no take some more","how is this?","ok, fill belly"... :))
Ewan Bonham: Reflection on your mind when breathing deliberately?
Ewan Bonham: Yes... thoughts may dissapate
Ewan Bonham: May float out of awareness..
Ewan Bonham: That is the present moment awareness
Ewan Bonham: giving your mind a rest..
Riddle Sideways: no longer thinking about jury duty letter on the desk. only is this breath corrent
    Ewan Bonham: Nod..
Ewan Bonham: And that process brings moments of peace..
    Riddle Sideways: brb (again)
    Ewan Bonham: OK..
Ewan Bonham: We will end the session in a few moments..
Ewan Bonham: Please practice this a bit each day ... I am sure you will give yourself moments of peacefulness
    Ewan Bonham: Any closing comments?
Ewan Bonham: OK... I will be here next week..
Ewan Bonham: For the session, please have a candle ready for you in RL
Santoshima Resident: thank you all ~ take good care
Ewan Bonham: Bye and thank you all...Namaste
    Tura Brezoianu: thank you
    --BELL--
Riddle Sideways: bye and thank you
