2018.09.27 07:00 - Meditations on Compassion and Peace

The Guardian for this meeting was Adams Rubble. The comments are by Adams Rubble.

We did tonglen meditations during the 90 second breaks which resulted in periods of silence both before and after the breaks making this log a bit shorter than usual. We start out with weather and increasing darkness as the sun goes south.

Adams Rubble: Good morning Riddle :)
Riddle Sideways: yet another Good morning
Adams Rubble: yes, lots of them lately :)
    --BELL--
    Riddle Sideways: + Adams ㋡
    Riddle Sideways: yes
    Riddle Sideways: darker later too
Adams Rubble: It is a completely different morning in RL than yesterday now that the tropical air has moved out
Adams Rubble: yes very dark in mornings lately
Riddle Sideways: and now for some completly different weather
    Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: a cloud with three legs
Riddle Sideways: back to the walking through a dark house carrying coffee
Riddle Sideways: must be very careful
    Adams Rubble nods
Adams Rubble: watching the radar screen
    Adams Rubble: blip blip blip
Riddle Sideways: and SL viewer updated yet again
    Adams Rubble: so many updates
Riddle Sideways: release date 9/5, yet it has installed that update at least 3 times
Adams Rubble: do you use the SL viewer?
Adams Rubble: oh I see, yes
Adams Rubble: The SL viewer and my virus protector do not like each other
Adams Rubble: my virus protector thinks it is a virus and doesn;t believe me when I put it on the list of OK programs
Riddle Sideways: yes, have to go into virus protector and set it that SL is ok
Adams Rubble: that works for the first one or two times
Riddle Sideways: seem to not have had to do that in months now
    Riddle Sideways: /knocks on wood
Adams Rubble: I like Firestorm better so it matters only when I am having ram or bandwidth issues
Riddle Sideways: only this av on this computer uses SL viewer
    Riddle Sideways: wonder why, still

I ask Riddle what is on his mind and compassion and peace becomes our topic.

Adams Rubble: Is there anything you would like to share or talk about?
Adams Rubble: that is interesting :)
Riddle Sideways: well, was thinking to talk about compassion and peace
    Adams Rubble: OK
    Riddle Sideways: compare the two
    Adams Rubble: ohhh
Adams Rubble: like one we do and the other is given to us?
Riddle Sideways: which is ... (not sure of the words)
    Riddle Sideways: hmmmm,

I say the opposite of what I mean but it gets accepted into the log

Adams Rubble: like when we think of others, our self stops to act up for a short time?
    Adams Rubble: whoops bad sentence
Adams Rubble: our self stops acting up
Riddle Sideways: works for both words
Adams Rubble: Would you like to do a little experiment and both of us do some tonblen during the next 90 second stop?
Adams Rubble: I've never done tinglen with someone else
    Riddle Sideways: ok
Adams Rubble: still another 5 minutes
    Adams Rubble: or so
Adams Rubble: any other thoughts on compassion and peace?
Riddle Sideways: who knows when? The Wol Does
    Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: when's Wol's typist is not in the sweat shop
Adams Rubble makes a note to include Wol's typist during the break
    --BELL--
Riddle Sideways: that was very nice
Adams Rubble: the time went very fst
    Adams Rubble: fast
Riddle Sideways: Soooo much suffering in this world
    Adams Rubble nods
Riddle Sideways: funny to wonder were we breathing in sync or alternating
Adams Rubble: I did not want to stop the exercise yet
    Riddle Sideways: started early
    Adams Rubble: me too :)
Riddle Sideways: Please continue to be mindful
    Adams Rubble: OK
    Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: It seems compassion and peace topic may not involve lots of talking :)
    Riddle Sideways: true
    Riddle Sideways: went silent here
Riddle Sideways: Plus, the desired words are not coming out right

    Fearless in compassion

Adams Rubble: Pema Chodron talks about compassion and fearlessness together
Adams Rubble: it takes courage to be compassionate in many situations
Adams Rubble: yesterday I argued that cpmpassion was equivalent to wisdom and knowledge
Adams Rubble: maybe more likely it derives from wisdom and knowledge
Riddle Sideways: and it takes courage to be peaceful
Adams Rubble: quiet all my "selves"
Riddle Sideways: still back at: [07:08] Adams Rubble: like one we do and the other is given to us?
Adams Rubble: sometimes all my "selves" are like Golum
Riddle Sideways: really can't guess which word would be which
    Riddle Sideways: maybe Golum inside
    Riddle Sideways: *many
Adams Rubble: compassion flows out and peace flows in
Adams Rubble: need some peacefulness to bnurture compassion I guess
    Adams Rubble: nurture
Adams Rubble: it is close to break--shall we do it again?
    Riddle Sideways: yes
Adams Rubble: lots of people to go yet on my part :)
    Riddle Sideways: whole earth
Adams Rubble: we are not just connected to all the people living on earth...
Adams Rubble: we are connected to all who ever lived and all who WILL live
    --BELL--
Adams Rubble: our religions makes some connections to the past
    Adams Rubble ponders
Riddle Sideways: repeating the same words that have always been said
Riddle Sideways: and teaching them to the future
Adams Rubble: is there some place in our minds or in our hearts that we all share?
Adams Rubble: is that the great space?
    Adams Rubble: yes Riddle
    Adams Rubble: connections
    Riddle Sideways: yes, AND
Adams Rubble: connections, a path to compassion
Riddle Sideways: has been described so many ways

Background radio Signals broadcasting Great Wisdom in First Language

Riddle Sideways: always liked the background radio signals connections
Adams Rubble thinks about compassion for sufferings we all share
Adams Rubble: say more about background radio signals
    Adams Rubble: please :)
Riddle Sideways: was a cute little therory
    Riddle Sideways: story?
Riddle Sideways: when we become quiet enough
Riddle Sideways: the radio station can be heard
Riddle Sideways: Or was it that there is a common braodcast/receivers
Riddle Sideways: that we all have in common
Riddle Sideways: in the part of the brain
Riddle Sideways: in that part of Great Wisdom
Riddle Sideways: in that First language
Adams Rubble: This is WGOD, your compassionate radio station bringing peace and wisdom and peace to quiet men and women and boys and girls
Adams Rubble: sorry to break in on your explanation
    Riddle Sideways: no, shared story
Adams Rubble: I think any way we see what we share is a step in the right direction
Adams Rubble: a toddler who does not speak words still can cmmunictae
Riddle Sideways: or a story by scientists that say we are all sharing DNA parts
Adams Rubble: as we approach another break, shall we continue our tonglen?
Riddle Sideways: noted that it would be 7:46

Riddle suggests a particular way of doing tonglen and we both try it in next break

Riddle Sideways: starts simply, on the first breath of assigning one person known to be suffering the most
Adams Rubble was watching wrong clock :)
Riddle Sideways: each breathe includes more people
Riddle Sideways: then crows, trees, worms
Riddle Sideways: then all the News broadcasters
    Adams Rubble: avatars
    Riddle Sideways: actors
Adams Rubble: people testifying before congressional committees
    Adams Rubble: police people
    Adams Rubble: prisoners
Riddle Sideways: people throwing plastic straws away
    Adams Rubble: ohhh
Adams Rubble: people picking up plastic straws on beach and river banks
    Adams Rubble: and gutters
Riddle Sideways: people thinking your thinking is not correct
Adams Rubble: (that is all of them)
    Adams Rubble: :)
    --BELL--
Riddle Sideways: such a big breath
Adams Rubble: I'll huff and puff and blow compassion your way
Riddle Sideways: got so reversed, that it was hard to Get which direction was which
Riddle Sideways: in comes the compassion
    Adams Rubble nods
    Adams Rubble: me too
Riddle Sideways: in comes the Peace
Riddle Sideways: sharing out the ...
Adams Rubble: The Tibetan Buddhists have a practice in which Chenrezig (Avalokitesvara) sits on ones head in a lotus and then as the practice goes on descends into ones heart, and bands of light go out in all directions (love and compassion)
Adams Rubble: Sometimes it is the words Um Mani Padme hum that are spinning around the hearts and the reays come from that
Adams Rubble: that image comes to me now wothout the practice
Adams Rubble: it makes me feel peaceful
Riddle Sideways: in both complete inclusion and reductionism it becomes Aum
    Riddle Sideways: all the noise
    Riddle Sideways: becomes the music
    Riddle Sideways: and at peace
    Adams Rubble nods
Adams Rubble: I hope we got close to where you hoped to go today Riddle
Riddle Sideways: yes it get somewhere
Riddle Sideways: however, will still need more work ;)
Adams Rubble: I think this is the quietest session we have had
    Adams Rubble: mostg peaceful
Riddle Sideways: btw - "om" typed into Google translated the Vietnamese to English "braised"
    Adams Rubble: ouch
    --BELL--
