Minutes of Working Group Meeting, April 12, 2011

1. Welcoming of new WG members
New members were recognized and welcomed and thanked for their participation. We are now a Group of Nine. Wol was welcomed as an anytime dropper-in.
2. Outstanding email topics
Eliza Madrigal asked about removing the scribe link on the front page of the wiki... so that no one follows and gets a stuck page or an empty/uninteresting page really. That's the only email item. It's not complicated.... as long as it has not child pages that you might want to keep
Eliza Madrigal thinks all the scribe pages are filed with chats now and the pages are fine, but the scribe link goes to 'current' which there aren't anymore.
Action: Cal will try and fix that.
3. What to do about underage participants to PaB sessions?
I have tried to capture the key points of this rambling discussion. Please add or delete as you wish. Nothing seemed to be decided upon and the subject might need to be revisited. Aph
1. Do we post the sessions with Frost or remove the young visitor’s contributions but leave the rest.
Wol Euler had removed his contributions (and people’s replies to these) from his Saturday 1am session and as in Luci's session we won't post Frosts contributions.
Once we know (in this case about this avtar), we can’t let them stay. It is a guardian responsibility, due to the recording of sessions, that in cases where we *know* an avatar is underage we must ask them to leave.
2. Thoughts from everyone on what a regular policy might be.
Some Observations & Facts:
- No underage (18 yrs) avi can attend Bieup. We're a mature sim. Despite this fact, they appear at the Pavilion.
- Most avs don't say how old they are and we don’t ask
- We can’t usually tell whether a person is underage or not
- We can’t keep deleting lines by underage avis in our records.
- Now that the kids' Sl is gone, there will be a lot more of this -- and the Lindens have got to get some means of detecting underage folks or THEY will soon be sued by some parents
- Disadvantages to age verification= Reduce our traffic?
- Wol Euler: as I understand it, there are only two real issues: that somebody underage is legally incapable of giving permission to be quoted
Some Proposed solutions:
- "Don't ask, don't tell" re age and if someone tells, we (organization) follows the Linden rules
- we need a considerate "ban" person at the meetings or note card to give when booting them out due to policy, or we include some lines in the pab notecard.
- There is one simple (but perhaps draconian) way that we could resolve the issue of our responsibility: by making the parcel age-verified only, that way only avs that have proven to the Lindens' satisfaction that they are over 18, can get onto our land, we can set the land to reject such people. However to some, setting the land to eject people seems like overdoing it, .
- Then we really have no option other than to ban anyone we KNOW is underage. This still doesn't guarantee that they really are over 18 but at least it would I think satisfy the due-diligence requirement. The process of changing parcel monitors also does the banning.
Summing up: Many questions still need answering
- Most WGers would do the least deemed necessary in this situation. The law says those underage don't understand what they are agreeing to
- The chances are probably low of actual trouble for the organization ... perhaps they (LL) enforce policy only for egregious cases
- IF we know they are underage, we can tell them their lines will not be logged, and ask them not to say any thing (because then follow ups will not make sense)
If we know someone is underage, we tell them what the situation is. If we don't, we keep on trucking
Q: Can GoC's tell anyone they KNOW is underage to leave? Question was not answered
Q: The question is of our liability. Are we really in the grave danger that Storm suggests?
Action: Wol will follow up with Linden Labs re the rules and guidelines re underage visitors

4. Up-date on planning for the Original Face (OF) group
Original Face is a group that Cal, Bruce, and Liza have been planning- a sort of side group near PaB; the prospectus is on the wiki, visible to this group
They plan (1) an initial theme session and discussion on Saturday April 16 at 1:00 pm at the pavilion about the Original Face group.
(2) first meeting will be Monday 9 days after. The ongoing group will repeat weekly on Mondays, outside the PaB slot schedule
It is a pab- like group but more like an ongoing retreat, based on personal practice and sharing, and with no recording, Action: Cal will send a email note to the working group tonight or tomorrow

So it's a hint toward the contemplative idea of the group. It is not a discussion group like WOK
It’s a group for people to share and learn from each other and their practices. As you will see in the wiki article, the group will focus on contemplative practice and we a sort of on-going weekly "retreat"-type experience.
Action: Calvino Rabeni: will have to update the WG permissions in the wiki for new members

5. The Next Working Group (members/schedules/roles)
Earlier time to meet s/b scheduled to accommodate European /African time zones
Action: Agreed to reschedule WG meetings to noon on every second Wednesdays beginning April 27
6. Transfer of reposibilities: Friends of PAB list: who will send notices now that Hana has left?
Action: Sun agreed to take over Hana’s role of sending event notices to the Friends list
Action: Who will take over the handbook writing from Hana will be discussed by email.
7. New Guardians
One potential member was discussed and approved by the WG members. Eliza will propose this person to the rest of the guardians by email and if all are in favour she will invite the candidate to be a member.
