Adams Rubble: :)
Xirana Oximoxi: to promote books is a lot of work...I will do slowly, but I think it will be better when I have at least 3 or 4...same work for al of them
Adams Rubble nods
Xirana Oximoxi: and more fun for mewriting and drawing them :)
Adams Rubble: I find it hard in general to promote ones work
Xirana Oximoxi: yes, me too
Xirana Oximoxi: plus we are world connected niow, and there are amazing artists around
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: I am just learning about poet artists who have been a round my whole lifetime :)
Xirana Oximoxi: what do you mean? poets that you have enjoyed reading?
Adams Rubble: I am taking an online couirse on Modern American poetry
Xirana Oximoxi: ahh
Xirana Oximoxi: at Coursera?
Adams Rubble: yes
Adams Rubble: it is like a poetry cult :)
Xirana Oximoxi: I have seen the course...I did not subscribe because then I don't follow all the course
Xirana Oximoxi: I will start one related to language on 26 october
Adams Rubble: I have learned something about Maasive Online Courses (MOC) that has surprised me
Adams Rubble: It does not matter if one drops out
Adams Rubble: can you say more about your course?
Xirana Oximoxi: https://www.coursera.org/course/humanlanguage
Adams Rubble: :)
Xirana Oximoxi: this one... I've found it interesting
Adams Rubble: neat
Xirana Oximoxi: what have you learned about Moocs that has surprised you?
Adams Rubble: it does not matter if people drop out--whatever they learn is fine
Xirana Oximoxi: I agree
Adams Rubble: the dropout rate has been a criticism
Adams Rubble: It is a different kind of education
Adams Rubble: somewhat like our experience here :)
Xirana Oximoxi: yes... it takes a lof of auto discipline or interest to follow all the courses
Adams Rubble: It takes much discipline not to sign up for them all. hehe
Xirana Oximoxi: at first I saved the videos and all material...but now I have seen they repeat them
Adams Rubble: yes, my poetry couirse is on its fourth run
Xirana Oximoxi: yes:) I signed for a lot more than I have really followed
Adams Rubble: we will have access to the materials all year
Xirana Oximoxi: that is gret
Adams Rubble: until the next time it is offered
Xirana Oximoxi: great
Xirana Oximoxi: do you interact with other people doing the course?
Adams Rubble: I have been reading Gertrude Stein about Picasso the past few days
Adams Rubble: yes, we have discussion groups and write papers which are peer reviewed
Adams Rubble: I am reading about six books at the same time. hehe. not a good way to get through any
Xirana Oximoxi: I like Picasso's works...
Adams Rubble nods
Xirana Oximoxi: hehe yes...but sometimes is good to change the topic to come back with more refreshed view
Adams Rubble: or go on to another six . hehe
Xirana Oximoxi: yes :))
Adams Rubble: need lots of bookmarks
Xirana Oximoxi: maybe internet and hypertext is changing our way to read...
Adams Rubble: I think you are correct about that
Xirana Oximoxi: connecting to more topics when we read about something
Adams Rubble: our attention spans are shortening
Adams Rubble: also thee is much distraction
Adams Rubble: there
Xirana Oximoxi: yes... and the information we can get is a never ending...so sometimes I find myself going back to see what was my frist question when I was looking for something
Adams Rubble: :)
Xirana Oximoxi: :)
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: I do best when I make lists on paper
Xirana Oximoxi: yes, good strategy.
Adams Rubble: otherwise my brain is like a sieve
Xirana Oximoxi: I think writitng on paper helps to remeber what I read
Adams Rubble: yes, taking notes makes us pause to think about it
Adams Rubble: I have been thinking I should take more notes during online class discussions
Xirana Oximoxi: I went to a talk about Egypt some days ago...and after one day I did remember only general ideas...so I decided next time I will take notes
Adams Rubble: yes, I try to do that at talks. I went to a taklk this week and did not do it and I am regretting it
Xirana Oximoxi: my mind is also a sieve :-) (new word for me :-)
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: the phrase is an idiom in English
Xirana Oximoxi: ah! thanks...I did not know it...but we have the same idiom in Spanish
