    Korel Laloix: Osiyo

    Bruce: Hi, Kori.

Bruce: Did you get hit by those big storms?

Korel Laloix: Was not bad where I am at.

Bruce: Ahhh. Good. I was worried.

Korel Laloix: Have some friends and relatives with a bit of damage though.. nothing serious though.

    Bruce: Oh dear.

Korel Laloix: Have been in far worse.

    Bruce: Yes, me too.

Korel Laloix: whispers: How have things been around you?

Bruce: Well, pretty wet of late.

Bruce: I made a 100-mile roundtrip to Columbus today - and was  bit worried about slipping on the wet roads.

    Bruce: But alas, no problems.

Bruce: I only go to the big city when I absolutely HAVE to.

    Korel Laloix: Great...

    Bruce: /me nods.

Korel Laloix: I like living wehre we are at...

Bruce: I bought a cheap laptop for a friend.

Bruce: I also like my rural setting.

Bruce: Very simple - very natural - and very hermitish.

    Bruce: Heya, Qt.

    Qt Core: Hi Bruce, Korel

Bruce: How are things in Mailano, Qt?

Qt Core: a little cold but sunny

    Bruce: Ahhh.

Bruce: Well, Kori has just had some bad storms in her state - and it has been raining here all day.

Qt Core: (cold as in 8C at midday)

    Bruce: Hmmm.

Korel Laloix: Sorry.. back to work.

Bruce: Yes, it's cold here, too.

    Qt Core: Bye Korel

    Korel Laloix: ciao

    Bruce: Bye, Kori.

Bruce: Kori gets inworld from her job....

Bruce: don't know how she can get away with that.

Bruce: Do you run a Windows OS, Qt?

    Qt Core: yes, 10

Bruce: I need some help with W-8

    Bruce: Oh great!

Qt Core: (never used 8, went from 7 to 10 at home and)

Bruce: Do you know if it's possible to have the Windows 7 desktop instead of W 8?

Bruce: I bought a new laptop for a friend and it has W 8.

Bruce: and I would prefer setting it to W 7 log in, if possible.

    Bruce: and W 7 desktop.

    Bruce: No big deal, really.

Qt Core: you an upgrade to 10 for free and 10 has a desktop very similar to 7

    Qt Core: an=can

    Bruce: Really!?

Bruce: Well then, that's what I'll do.

Bruce: He will be happy to have W 10.

Bruce: But he doesn't even have an internet connection, so it hardly matters.

Qt Core: 10 is a free upgrade for 7 and 8 until next summer, check on the Microsoft site

Qt Core: that can be a problem

Bruce: Yes, I have been reluctant to do that on my own computer....

Bruce: but not at all reluctant to get 10 for his.

Qt Core: maybe you can download from a public library to an usb stick ?

Bruce: I wanted to wait for about ten months before I downloaded it - giving them time to work out some of the bugs.

Bruce: I am setting up his new laptop right here beside my own desktop machine -

Qt Core: well, they just throw out a very big (and extremely slow) upgrade this past weeks

Bruce: using my own internet connection... until I give it to him.

Bruce: Yes, I was afraid that might be the case.

    Riddle Sideways: hi All

    Bruce: Hi, Riddle.

Bruce: I was telling Qt that I am trying to set up a new laptop I just bought for a friend.

Riddle Sideways: had trouble teleporting :(

    Bruce: sry to hear that.

Qt Core: this may help: https://www.microsoft.com/it-it/soft...load/windows10

Bruce: Are you using the new LM's?

    Bruce: Ahhh, TY Qt.

Bruce: We were talking about upgrading W 8 to W 10.

    Bell

Riddle Sideways: ah, thinking that through also

Qt Core: There are privacy issue with W10 as it seems it collects quite more data about you then previous releases

Bruce: W 8 is showing all sorts of apps that we do NOT need.

Qt Core: but if your friend is offline no issue here

Riddle Sideways: to better sell you fashion

Bruce: I was to keep it simple for him (the guy I'm giving the laptop to.)

Riddle Sideways: they need to know what you are wearing

    Bruce: want to*

Bruce: Well, I also use Ghostery on my desktop.

Bruce: But my friend doesn't need to worry about that because he can't afford Internet.

Riddle Sideways: hmmm, does a proxy break the install process?

Qt Core: that is for browsing, w10 do it at os level, or at least not in a browser

    Bruce: Don't know.

Qt Core: a proxy may work better at that

Bruce: I have installed Chrome browser on his new machine, but that's only for when he comes to the farm and uses my connection - or when he's in some other wifi hotspot.

Riddle Sideways: os level stills checks internet for your current license

    Bruce: Hmmmm.

Qt Core: but then you should be able to understand which traffic is legit and which is not

For example:  His W 8 not has "Trip Advisor" on screen - and I can't figure out how to get out of that.

Bruce: There is no sign-off button or shit-down button from Trip Advisor.

Bruce: I hate it when I can't control my own machine.

Qt Core: I'll try some right clicking here and there to see if there are some removal options

Bruce: How to you get back to the desktop in W 8?

Bruce: I searched the Trip ad for "log out" and it is nlw showing a lot of log cabins.

    Bruce: now*

Bruce: I just want OUT OUT OUT!

Bruce: can't figure out how to get back to the desktop.

    Qt Core: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/conten...n-to-the0.html

    Bruce: ty.

Bruce: I can't even turn the computer off!

Riddle Sideways: all ur os r ours

Qt Core: it seems that for having it back as w7 you need to replace it with 3rd parties utility, more here: http://www.extremetech.com/computing...k-to-windows-8

    Bruce: I hate this.

    Riddle Sideways: yes

Bruce: ty. I will check that during the next drop.

Qt Core: or jump forward to 10 that gives you back the start menu and put all the "desktop tiles" in it

Qt Core: (but they can be removed from there too)

Bruce: OK, I was able to get back to the desktop - finally!

Bruce: But I don't like all of those big squares with lots of things I don't need or want.

    Bruce: Removed?

Qt Core: i think i had to use a w8 pc for a few hours some times ago, felt like the first times i tried to drive a car, too much useless things around

Bruce: Oh!  Now I see that one of the big squares will take me back to the desktop.  Whew!

    Riddle Sideways: an aerobic exercise

    Riddle Sideways: heart pounding

Qt Core: in w10 several of those squares go into the start menu but can be removed

Bruce: What I really hate is when THEY put up a bunch of stuff that overlays the things I WANT to see.

Bruce: and that is happening right now.

Riddle Sideways: use to be able to read text of what you wanted.  now you get a 300px square to go the wrong place

    Bruce: Indeed!

Bruce: And MickySoft is such a monopoly that it's almost impossible for common folks like myself to avoid them.

Qt Core: it seems there is a way to bypass the w8 start screen without additional software: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/win...o-the-desktop/

    Bruce: Ahhh!

    Bruce: Thanks!

Bruce: That looks very helpful - will do that when this session is over.  Thank you!

Qt Core: it seems a long and windy way but there is one ;-)

Bruce: Yes, good to see that.

Bruce: I was going to suggest a topic - but Windows got the best of me.

Bruce: I've been thinking a lot about "collective guilt" -- especially since the Colorado Planned Parenthood murders last Friday.

Bruce: Can a GROUP of people be responsible?

Bruce: Or can only an individual be responsible?

Bruce: For decades, I have thought (for myself, anyway) that only individuals could be ethically responsible, not groups.

Qt Core: well, around here the sentiment that "moderate Muslims" should distance themselves from what happened in Paris is quite strong, so now the question is if Christians have to distance themselves from people like that guy...

Bruce: When a whole group of persons is arrested for demonstrating, for example, they are always processed as individuals -- not as a group.

    Bruce: Yes, excellent example, Qt.

Bruce: I have been opposed to capital punishment my whole life - yet, I live in a state that allows executions.

Bruce: So, I just rationalize it by saying that I personally am not killing the prisoner...

Bruce: The executioner is doing the killing - an individual or a bunch of individuals.

Bruce: I feel the same way about war - My nation may be at war, but I am not.

Bruce: Am I crazy, or what?

Qt Core: but then as a citizen of a state whose laws are made by citizen appointed politicians you are stin a mandator

Bruce: Individual soldier kill . . .  or operate big weapons that kill.... but I do not.

    Qt Core: *still

Bruce: Yes, I understand the "body politic" principle, but I am also a dissenter from some policies of the state.....

Bruce: "NOT IN MY NAME," I say.

Bruce: I've even withheld taxes - during the Vietnam War...

Qt Core: but then more than voting for politicians against it and trying to convince others to do the same is what you could do... up to become one of the politicians

    Bruce: OMG!

    Bruce: Yikes!

    Bruce: No thanks.

    Riddle Sideways: no no

    Bruce: ha ha!

Qt Core: but then you leave the road free for the bad ones ;-)

Bruce: I am quite two-faced about the whole affair.

Bruce: Am more concerned with the ethical principles for individuals ...

Riddle Sideways: ".. to get yourself elected ... if you do, you had better cut your hair"

Bruce: (especially for myself, since I am the only individual I feel responsible for -- for making the choices for, anyway).

Bruce: I'd also better get myself de-antlered.

    Bruce: /me dies from laughing....

Qt Core: both my parents were involved in politics, even if only at a municipal level,,, but still i'm one of the few people i know that don't consider politics a dirty thing in itself

    Riddle Sideways: short die

Bruce: I agree with you, Qt.

Bruce: My mother was also involved in politics at the local level,

Bruce: and I really admired her for that,

Bruce: but it's not my cup of tea.

Bruce: I really am a hermit, you see.

Bruce: Feel quite disengaged from both locals and nationals -- sort of an island all by myself,

Bruce: although I also consider myself a citizen of the world.

Qt Core: that is a vocation things, another story

    Bruce: vocation?

    Bruce: You mean spiritual?

Bruce: or do you mean political vocation?

    Qt Core: yes

    Bruce: I see.

Bruce: My sister-in-law was on the local school board for years... always got re-elected.

Bruce: Now she's more involved with ecology groups.

Bruce: One problem with politics in America is that you HAVE to have a lot of money behind you -

Qt Core: after all my parents got together as they "randomly"  repeatedly met at union and party and church and mountain lovers association meeting, all vocation things ;-)

Bruce: especially at the state and national levels.

    Bruce: Ahhh!

Bruce: Sounds like a fine relationship, multiple shared interests.

Qt Core: that bring out the issue of political founding

    Bell

Qt Core: how to make it possible for non rich people to participate ?

Qt Core: our own Mr. Berlusconi decided to get into it et voila he founded a party with his own money and got ads for free in his own tvs... someone else would have to do a few decades of hidden/low works inside a party go gain its support

Bruce: I fear that Donald Trump might do something similar to that in the United States,

Bruce: because he surely has enough money - if the Republican Party finally rejects him.

Qt Core: and starts from municipal to progress up to the national level

Bruce: which I'm pretty sure they will do.

Riddle Sideways: yes, if he is not GOP nominated

    Bruce: yeppers.

Riddle Sideways: he will buy a third party

Qt Core: you know, for him it may be the best things to happen to him

Bruce: He would destroy the Republican Party if he were nominated.

Bruce: "Buying" or making a third party would also divide the Republicans - guaranteeing a victory for Hillary.

Qt Core: he will get immediately the support of all the politic haters

Riddle Sideways: often remembering that Hitler was the comic candidate

    Bruce: Yikes! He was?!

    Bruce: I didn't realize that.

Riddle Sideways: nobody really thought he would get elected the first time

Bruce: Hmmmm.  And once he got in, he killed anyone who opposed him....

Qt Core: well, we are at risk of having the next legislature lead by a party founded by an ex comedy/stand up actor... Beppe Grillo

    Bruce: Wow.

    Qt Core: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beppe_Grillo

Bruce: Maybe democracy is the next to the last worst possible form of government - as Plato said.

Qt Core: and this is his party: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Star_Movement

    Bruce checks out Grillo.

Bruce: Grillo sounds al lot like the American Jon Stewart.

    Bruce: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Stewart

Bruce: He's retired now, but he used to have "The Daily Show" Bruce: a comedic form of the news and interviews with famous politicians, etc.

Riddle Sideways: the M5S page has soooo many words that seem to not sit well next to each other

    Bruce: Hmmmm.

Qt Core: but still not an active role in politics (it has to be noted that Grillo as never and probably will never be  a candidate for any elected position)

    Riddle Sideways: :)

Bruce: So, he just wanted to start a new party so others could run for office, Qt?

Qt Core: most of his candidates for any position , were were they not must be, without any previous political experience

Riddle Sideways: need to go folks

Riddle Sideways: thanks for the chat

    Qt Core: bye Riddle

Bruce: I also need to go.

    Bruce: Bye for now, guys.

    Bruce: See ya, Qt.

Qt Core: and i need sleep ;-)

    Bruce: Pleasant dreams!

    Qt Core: bye
