Eden Haiku: Good morning Storm!
Riddle Sideways: ah ha, been reading the pages
Storm Nordwind: Hi Riddle! Hi Eden, and welcome back. :)
Eden Haiku: Yes, caught up reading after my travels :)
--BELL--
Eden Haiku: Thanks Storm, saw you are undertaking a writing course?
Riddle Sideways: it would be nice if the pages could load before airplane takes off and be read over the ocean
Storm Nordwind: Yes, just starting out. Just a short one at first. Then a longer one. And I have the course material for a third!
Eden Haiku: Wow!
Riddle Sideways: three! could Juggle
Storm Nordwind: Oh I can juggle :)
Riddle Sideways: useta
Riddle Sideways: /looks around for beanbags
Eden Haiku: We are only in the infancy of Internet :)
Riddle Sideways: clubs are bad for office
Storm Nordwind: Oranges are better if you're starting out ;)
Eden Haiku: Though they now have slots to recharge you phone or tablet as you fly :)
Riddle Sideways: have 3 2.5pound balls. good exercise, but wrecks ya for the light ones
Storm Nordwind smiles
Eden Haiku: Contemplating Riddle's Converses and Storm's feet immersed in the stone...
Riddle Sideways: yes, the power sockets between seats are not quite enough to charge this android
Storm Nordwind imagines Eden on a plane, having finished her writing, going down the aisle juggling ;)
Riddle Sideways: nice image
Eden Haiku: smiles
Eden Haiku: They want you buckled down most of the time now ...
Storm Nordwind looks at his feet "I hope no one made me an offer i couldn't refuse. ;)"
Eden Haiku: hopes so
Riddle Sideways: yep, concrete shoes
Storm Nordwind: And no fishes to swim with here
Riddle Sideways: ok, enough waiting for late comers... please tell all about trip, fun, travels, readings, faire
Storm Nordwind: Agreed!
Poetry in Paris
Eden Haiku: We were hundreds and hundreds of poets mingling in the Marché de la Poésie in Paris. Swimming together in delight :)
Eden Haiku: It's on Place Saint-Sulpice, outdoors, under tents, thousands of poetry books.
Riddle Sideways: not a Gaggle, what are herds of poets?
Eden Haiku: We were about 50 from Quebec as our "country" (which isn'it a country but winter) was the guest of honor.
Riddle Sideways: Winter ㋡
Eden Haiku: The whole thing was exciting and fun. Met many new people, old acquaintances.
Storm Nordwind a doggerel of poets, maybe ;)
Eden Haiku: A famous song by Gilles Vigneault.
Eden Haiku: "Mon pay ce n'est pas un pays, c’est l'hiver"...
Storm Nordwind chuckles
Eden Haiku: But the weather was rather hot in Paris :)
Storm Nordwind: So much stone and concrete there too
Eden Haiku: Had this delightful encounter with a Japanese poet who publishes at my Paris publisher too: she was wearing a white dress and straw hat every day and spoke mainly Japanese.
Storm Nordwind smiles
Eden Haiku: We kept bowing and smiling and making little drawings for each other :)
Eden Haiku:Shizue Ogawa is her name.
à
Japanese poet Shizue Ogawa in Paris in June
Storm Nordwind: :)
Storm Nordwind: http://www.poems-poems.com/
Eden Haiku: Link: http://bit.ly/2K9aNUk
Riddle Sideways: ha, we all searched
Eden Haiku: hehe
Eden Haiku: Haven't read her poems yet but heard her reading in Japanese and translations. Beautiful!
An idol of my youth
Poet and theatre director Gabriel Garran in Paris
Eden Haiku: Had a funny extraordinary moment too with some idol of my years as a student in theatre.
Storm Nordwind: Oh?
Eden Haiku: Came to this stand where I noticed many books by "Gabriel Garran", I didn’t even know he wrote books but my teacher was adamant he was the best and I almost went studying in Paris at his theater.
Eden Haiku: So there is this table filled with his books and this old man sleeping by the table.
Eden Haiku: I wonder...
Storm Nordwind: hehe!
Eden Haiku: Had no image of him whatsoever
Eden Haiku: This was before Google right?
Eden Haiku: So I mouth discreetly to another man standing "Is this man Gabriel Garran"? And as I say so, the old man opens bright eyes.
Riddle Sideways: oh, smiles
Eden Haiku: We had a great chat, I bought one of his books, he gave me another, I gave him one of mine. Was very impressed!
Storm Nordwind: What a wonderful tale. Brings a big smile to my face :))
Eden Haiku: A delight yes!
Storm Nordwind: And then you bought him coffee at Cafe de la Marie? ;)
Eden Haiku: The energy of joy was filling the whole place. So many people of the same trade!
Eden Haiku: No, I didn't. I was rushing to one of my own signatures :)
Riddle Sideways: not, coffee, he wanted to go back to nap
Eden Haiku: Our paths crossed once more, we smiled. But I cherish the moment!
Art and dance keeps you young
Storm Nordwind: And if you've ever had French coffee in France, sleep would indeed not be an option!
Eden Haiku: Yes :)
Riddle Sideways: ㋡ both
Eden Haiku: We mainly drank wine in the cafe of the Marché, where all poets met.
Storm Nordwind nods
Riddle Sideways: ah! that image
Eden Haiku: One day, someone recognize Francoise Sullivan, an important painter/ dancer from Quebec. She was my teacher in my years as a student in theatre.
Eden Haiku: We were all like groupies, especially the women poets,
Eden Haiku: She was standing upright, smiling.
Eden Haiku: Then some friend whispered:she must me something like 95 now!
Painter and dancer Francoise Sullivan (93 yo!) with poet Claude Beausoleil and art museum director Claude Gosselin
Eden Haiku: She is and she looks 65 or 70 at the most. Amazing. No botox, nothing. Just art and dance!
Eden Haiku: I have a picture.. Will try to post in in the log :)
Storm Nordwind: Would love to see it :)
Eden Haiku: So creation does keep us young!
Riddle Sideways: says 93
Riddle Sideways: wikipedia
Eden Haiku: Also have a link to a online booklet about her life and her work. There is one in English. Will add that to the log too :) [Here is the link to Francoise Sullivan life and work]: https://www.aci-iac.ca/art-books/francoise-sullivan/biography
Storm Nordwind: :)
Eden Haiku: Nope, she turned 95 on June 10th.
Riddle Sideways: knew not to trust wikipedia
Storm Nordwind: hehe
--BELL--
French coffee and feedback
PEN club poetry reading in Paris
Eden Haiku: Oh no, you are right... Sorry, my mistake, 93 is pretty good as well :)
Eden Haiku: I never knew to add numbers,,,
Eden Haiku: It keeps me young too :)
Riddle Sideways: dancing, painting, theatre, wine, poetry all keep Eden young
Eden Haiku: hehe and champagne!
Storm Nordwind: Talking about France, and wine and coffee (and French people) reminds me of a quick story about coffee.
Riddle Sideways: OH YES
Storm Nordwind: I remember working for Air France 30 years ago.
Riddle Sideways: had many yesterday brunch
Riddle Sideways: had to take a nap
Riddle Sideways: too much OJ
Eden Haiku: smiles at Riddle and listens to Storm
Storm Nordwind: They were visiting England and I made some coffee for them and I emptied half a bag of ground coffee into a filter coffee maker.
Storm Nordwind: That was a lot by English standards!
Storm Nordwind: But when it was brewed and they tried it, they spat it out!
Storm Nordwind: They asked to see how I'd made it.
Storm Nordwind: Apparently the brand of coffee was OK, but they took over and started afresh.
Storm Nordwind: They put TWO whole bags of coffee in and only used HALF the amount of water.
Storm Nordwind: Which is eight times the strength!
Eden Haiku: Wow!
Storm Nordwind: They were satisfied after that. :)
Riddle Sideways: hehehehe teaching you
Eden Haiku: Yes, they like their coffee very strong!
Eden Haiku: You have to ask for 'allonge' if you want some with some water in it :)
Storm Nordwind nods
Eden Haiku: French people are great at giving feedback about poetry. They amaze me with that quality.
Storm Nordwind: Can you remember an example?
Eden Haiku: It boosts your confidence immensely.
Riddle Sideways: generalization = they are great at giving feedback on all subjects [true!]
Eden Haiku: An example? yes. One French poet I have known for years took me apart after my last reading at the PEN club and told me about my poem and how good I was reading it and so on.
Storm Nordwind: wow :)
Riddle Sideways: great
Eden Haiku: His own father who is now 104 is a famous French poet, his mother was a psychonalyst who wrote books (I met her once) and this man knows how important it is to receive feedback :)
Storm Nordwind: Have you ever read in Japan? I know audiences are very different there.
Eden Haiku: But the best compliment was his daughter in her twenties telling me my reading was inspiring her to write!
Eden Haiku: It runs in the family it seems :)
Storm Nordwind: Great! What could be better!
Eden Haiku: Japan, no, unfortunately, never been in Japan.
Storm Nordwind: If you do, be prepared for silence if they really like it!
Eden Haiku: Just "being a writer' is quite a status in France, In Quebec, if they don't know your name, it counts for peanuts...
Eden Haiku: Oh, the room was totally silent as I was reading the poems!
Eden Haiku: That's what I like the best in reading my poetry.Creating this quality of silence.
Storm Nordwind: It's like that for other professions throughout the world. As you make know, in the Netherlands, they understand how important engineers are (saving their country!) and they have a special title "Inj" instead of Mr or Mrs.
Eden Haiku: Oh, how interesting. They know how polders are important yes!
--BELL--
Conference of the Birds, dream sessions, poetry and pot
Storm Nordwind: I think teachers are respected more in Japan too, than they are, say, In England. So it doesn't surprise me about poets.
Eden Haiku: Teachers in th USA are so badly paid, that's very sad, They are so important!
Storm Nordwind nods sadly
Riddle Sideways: have the feeling American's have little respect for anybody
Eden Haiku: Rich people can get away :)
Eden Haiku: Business people, start-ups :)
Eden Haiku: Famous people are ok too :)
Riddle Sideways: btw - it is so nice that at a Canadian is still talking to us Mericans
Eden Haiku: Immigrant children kept in cages....that’ so sad.
Eden Haiku: No amalgams Riddle, I know you are not 'American' that way :) That most Americans aren't like that either,
Eden Haiku: Ideology and democracy create bizarre outcomes
Riddle Sideways: some expression about one bad apple spoiling it for all
Eden Haiku: I know who you are thinking about...
Riddle Sideways: giggles
Storm Nordwind: Human beings are weak. And malleable. Which implies that countering with good is possible too.
Eden Haiku: Are the birds still flying towards the Simorgh?
Eden Haiku: And the dream session still running? I saw a log I think, but read only the 99 days contributions.
Storm Nordwind: I think the Birds are about done, Eden. In one glorious ball ;)
Eden Haiku: Ah!
Riddle Sideways:yes, dream sessions are recorded and logged now
Eden Haiku: Good, I will have a lot of reading to do :)
Riddle Sideways: keep missing the noon hour instead of one
Eden Haiku: And piles of poetry books to read over the summer!
Eden Haiku: Ah yes, noon...
Storm Nordwind: And write, I hope... :)
Eden Haiku: Yep!A new poetry project in the bud:)
Storm Nordwind: Hooray! :)
Eden Haiku:For a Poetry Night on August 18th.
Eden Haiku: I'm more intimidated by the fact that I have to drive there (far away in the countryside) than by the fact I have to write a new poem.
Eden Haiku: :)
Riddle Sideways: Poems in the Woods
Eden Haiku:A whole night. With about 60 poets :)
Storm Nordwind: wow!
Eden Haiku: Yep! Lots of fun ahead.
Riddle Sideways: another gaggle
Eden Haiku: Especially if pot is legal by then.
Riddle Sideways: laughs
Eden Haiku: But not for me: I will be driving!
Storm Nordwind: I do hear strange 'aromatic' reports from my old school friend who lives there now ;)
--BELL--
Eden Haiku: A lot of arguing about how many plants we will be allowed to grow at home...
Storm Nordwind: That was true here too.
Eden Haiku: It's already legal in Colorado isn'it?
Storm Nordwind: Yes
Eden Haiku: Did you notice big changes Storm?
Storm Nordwind: Nope. Apart from the tax revenue funding school projects.
Eden Haiku: That's good!
Riddle Sideways: Son moved from Washington to Colorado (both legal) but many differences
Eden Haiku: Really Riddle? Which did he noticed?
Riddle Sideways: at least in the legalization and handling processes procedures setup
Eden Haiku: Ah yes, I see...
Riddle Sideways: too long stories for this session :(
Eden Haiku: :)
Homebrews
Riddle Sideways: besides, had whole day planned then looked at calendar. to find people coming to diner tonight
Eden Haiku: Oh my Riddle!
Storm Nordwind:Order in
Eden Haiku: Your daughter is still at home?
Riddle Sideways: yes, order in
Eden Haiku: Good idea!
Riddle Sideways: nope, daughter left mid day yesterday. had a great binge TV time tho
Riddle Sideways: and she made the template for beer labels for the new homebrews
Eden Haiku: So your planned day will take an unexpected turn...
Eden Haiku: How sweet!
Riddle Sideways: yep. clean house, cook, find deck,
Storm Nordwind learned a trick for home beer labels long ago ;)
Eden Haiku: And you had good wishes for Fathers's Day too Storm? That's wonderful
Riddle Sideways: /listens
Storm Nordwind: I did Eden, thank you, though the other two daughters were somewhat preoccupied :/
Eden Haiku: it happens...
Storm Nordwind: What do you use for your label material and adhesive?
Eden Haiku: Just forgetful maybe...Not the same day in England I guess.
Riddle Sideways: right now using normal paper and rubber cement
Riddle Sideways: but, just read about milk
Eden Haiku: listens for Storm's, trick in case she starts homebrewing beer
Storm Nordwind: Normal paper is good. Instead of rubber cement, use milk - seriously! Sticks well and slides right off in water when you want to recycle the bottle.
Eden Haiku: Oh!
Eden Haiku: Milk as a glue?
Storm Nordwind: yes!
Riddle Sideways: yes, just read milk (licene) is glue
Eden Haiku: Wow!
Storm Nordwind: Paint it on with a pastry brush
Riddle Sideways: however, not as good in coolers of melted ice
Storm Nordwind: true
Storm Nordwind: But then home printed labels are not so good for that either
Eden Haiku: How long does it take to brew beer?
Storm Nordwind: five weeks from brew to drink
Riddle Sideways: over 2 months for these last tow batchs
Riddle Sideways: each
Storm Nordwind nods
Eden Haiku: Oh! Never heard of anyone making homebrew here. Wine yes, but beer never.
Eden Haiku: Maybe I should try? hehe
Riddle Sideways: almost the same as wine
Eden Haiku: Ah!
Storm Nordwind: Wine takes so long and usually you can buy better in a shop, so why bother? But you can often brew your own beer that's as least as good as you can buy.
Eden Haiku: I guess you get a better quality, good products and so on...
Riddle Sideways: agree
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: though our little valley has so many vines in backyards and wine making in the garages
Storm Nordwind chuckles
Eden Haiku: Ah, the California sun!
Riddle Sideways: and went to a group meeting and was really surprised at the number of homebrews in this valley
Eden Haiku: And start-ups in the garages as well.
Eden Haiku: It's raining so hard right now, I can feel the temperature going down...
Storm Nordwind: California and Colorado - the greatest density of microbreweries in the US/
Eden Haiku: Oh!
Riddle Sideways: It's sunning so much here now that the temperature is going up ㋡
Eden Haiku: It was way too hot yesterday. Hard to walk my 10,000 steps,.
Eden Haiku: Will have to wait till it calms down....
Riddle Sideways: got 11K saturday and only 5k yesterday
Eden Haiku: Wasn't too good in Paris either...Too much excitement and too many cars.
Eden Haiku: But I love the FitBit Riddle, it's easier that just the phone.
Riddle Sideways: oh, did not realize you got one
Riddle Sideways: is it close to the same numbers?
Eden Haiku: Yep, followed you example :) Quite recently, maybe a month ago.
Eden Haiku: Yes, close...
Eden Haiku: Different a bit, sometimes more on the phone, sometimes more on the watch.
Eden Haiku: No idea what makes the difference :)
Riddle Sideways: funny to go 50 years without wearing a wristwatch tho
Riddle Sideways: and then looking at it so much
Eden Haiku: Really? And now you are monitored hehe
Riddle Sideways: snagging on things though
Riddle Sideways: not sure about the sleep monitor accuricity
Riddle Sideways: but, fun to watch
Eden Haiku: I do not use that. I like taking it off in the house,
Eden Haiku: Except when I’m doing a lot of housekeeping...
Riddle Sideways: this house has 3.5 levels and lots of stairs
Riddle Sideways: so some days Fitbit says like 25 sets of stairs
Goodbyes
Eden Haiku: I just unpacked and now I have to pack for the summer house...
Riddle Sideways: ooooo, go see the Rock
Riddle Sideways: and the deer
Eden Haiku: Oh, the rock...I completely forgot the rock...
Riddle Sideways:listening to its stories
Eden Haiku: The deer, I hope they will be back this summer
Eden Haiku:Thunder now...
Eden Haiku: I guess I better leave and shut down the computer...
Riddle Sideways: the sign to not go outside
Eden Haiku: Thank you for being here this morning Riddlle and Storm and listening to my stories
Riddle Sideways: such a pleasure
Eden Haiku: Have a great day and great inspirations!
Storm Nordwind: Thank you Eden for hosting this wonderful session! :))
Eden Haiku: Leaping Riddle!!!
Eden Haiku: Bye for now :)))
Riddle Sideways: ummm,
Storm Nordwind waves
Riddle Sideways: outa control
