Agatha Macbeth: Good moaning :)
Wol Euler: hiya
Agatha Macbeth: How angelic you look
Wol Euler: interesting t-shirt
Wol Euler smiles.
Agatha Macbeth: Yes it's an Egyptian...thingy
Wol Euler: "shirt"?
Agatha Macbeth: Hm guess so
Wol Euler chuckles.
Wol Euler: sort of a scarab beetle with too few legs and a set of phoenix wings
Wol Euler: no, I see the middle legs now
Agatha Macbeth: Yes they're rather short
Wol Euler: it seems to be eating a tomato and excreting a yellow egg...
Wol Euler: probably some deep heiroglyphic significance to that
Agatha Macbeth: Still size isn't everything eh?
Wol Euler: "the umbrella of my aunt is in the leg of your cousin"
Agatha Macbeth: It pushes a dung ball around which symbolises the path of the sun
Wol Euler: ah
Wol Euler: well, that makes sense
Agatha Macbeth: To the Egyptians it did
Wol Euler nods.
Agatha Macbeth: Not sure what the yellow thing is tho
Agatha Macbeth: Pearl of wisdom maybe?
Wol Euler: heheheh
Agatha Macbeth: One never knows
Wol Euler: presumably the ancient Egyptians did
Wol Euler: or claimed to do
Wol Euler: perhaps they were baffled too
Agatha Macbeth: Yes I'll ask them
Agatha Macbeth gets out her ouija board
Wol Euler watches.
--BELL--
Agatha Macbeth: They said they're on a coffe break atm
Agatha Macbeth: +e
Agatha Macbeth: Took a look at Inworldz this week
Agatha Macbeth: Found you and waved
Wol Euler: O.O
Wol Euler: I was there?
Agatha Macbeth: Wol Euler is
Wol Euler: huh
Wol Euler: perhaps that is me
Wol Euler: but it hasn't been "me" in ages and ages
Wol Euler: if it was
Agatha Macbeth: You doubtless made her and forgot
Wol Euler: yup
Agatha Macbeth: Not overly impressive compared to SL
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: probably why I haven't been there in ages and ages
Agatha Macbeth: There doesn't seem to be an equivalent of the marketplace for a start
Agatha Macbeth: Or any freebie places where a noob can get new clothes
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: this is to me the lesson of those alternative worlds, and Open Sim generally
Wol Euler: the niceness of SL is not the mechanics of how bodies look and move, or that there is gravity and a blue sky
Wol Euler: it's that the place is full of other people, and that there are things to do here
Agatha Macbeth: True that
Wol Euler: thinking that you could replace SL by just building a world and letting people settle into it, is like building a duplicate of Cornell University in a wheatfield somewhere and waiting for professors to arrive
Wol Euler: *the buildings of
Agatha Macbeth: Hm yes
Agatha Macbeth: Opensim is used a lot by builders is it not?
Wol Euler: yep
Wol Euler: because the prim limits are very generous and there are nu uploading fees for textures
Agatha Macbeth: They can do things easier and cheaper there right
Agatha Macbeth: But can you build something in OS and move it to SL?
Wol Euler: not directly, as far as I know. But you can test things
Agatha Macbeth: Right
Wol Euler: I understand from builder friends that paying to upload a new texture which then doesn't look quite right is a major PITA
Wol Euler: even if it's only 10L$
Agatha Macbeth nods
Agatha Macbeth: That I can believe
Agatha Macbeth: So basically there's nothing else out there on a par with SL?
Wol Euler: as far as I know, and I don't know to the end of all universes: no.
Agatha Macbeth: I remember Senban used to blog about all this stuff, but she's not around any more :(
Agatha Macbeth: Which is a pity
Wol Euler nods.
Agatha Macbeth: Wonder what Blue Mars is like?
Wol Euler: I had a look at that too, many years ago. It's probably changed greatly since I saw it, if it's still around
Agatha Macbeth: Guess the fact there is no real competition is how LL can get away with as much as they do :p
Wol Euler: or that the things they "get away with" aren't really that bad.
--BELL--
Agatha Macbeth: Well cost of tier for one thing
Agatha Macbeth: (Toilet)
Agatha Macbeth: Back
Wol Euler: and forth
Agatha Macbeth: And fifth
Wol Euler: da.da.da.dummmmmmmmmm
Agatha Macbeth: Ching
Agatha Macbeth: Where would we be without onomatopia?
Agatha Macbeth: No hugs this morning?
Wol Euler: I found a truly lovely bit of onomatopia the other day
Agatha Macbeth: Oh?
Wol Euler: for some reason I was reading about War and Peace (Tolstoy)
Wol Euler: oh I know, I was looking for a name for a new WoW character and thought I might take somebody from the book
Agatha Macbeth: As opposed to W&P by someone else? :p
Wol Euler: right
Agatha Macbeth: Hehe
Wol Euler: and in the introduction, where the translators spoke about the joys and difficulties of the job, I found "kápli kapáli"
Wol Euler: which they translated as "drops dripped"
Wol Euler: in both languages it's onomatopoeic
Agatha Macbeth: Wow
Wol Euler: isn't that lovely?
Agatha Macbeth: Pretty much so
Wol Euler smiles.
Agatha Macbeth: Complete with alliteration
Wol Euler: I thought it was lovely, but I am easily pleased.
Wol Euler: yup
Agatha Macbeth: Is that Hungarian?
Wol Euler: an excellent piece of translation, I bet they were delighted
Wol Euler: O.O
Wol Euler: russian (tolstoy)
Agatha Macbeth: No the kapli bit
Wol Euler: yes, it's russian
Agatha Macbeth: Ah
Agatha Macbeth: Ok
Agatha Macbeth: Horosho
Wol Euler: bless you
Agatha Macbeth: Spasibo
Wol Euler: Haribo
Agatha Macbeth: Wonder how Boxy is?
Wol Euler: send him an e-mail :)
Agatha Macbeth: Hm
Agatha Macbeth: Not the same as him being here is it?
Wol Euler: agreed, but you might find an answer to your question
Agatha Macbeth: I'm pretty sure he's enjoying whatever he's doing
Wol Euler: I would hope so
Agatha Macbeth: Probably hacking the NSA or something :p
Wol Euler nods.
--BELL--
Wol Euler: so, what's the plan for today?
Agatha Macbeth: Family coming later
Wol Euler: ah
Agatha Macbeth: Samstag
Wol Euler: so last-minute frantic cleaning and polishing and hiding the toys?
Agatha Macbeth: Well...
Wol Euler smiles.
Agatha Macbeth: Cleaning yes
Agatha Macbeth: Yes need to do a bit of dusting
Agatha Macbeth: Will have to try an clean the windows sometime soon too
Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: or just pay somebody to do it, and move on
Agatha Macbeth: Ha
Agatha Macbeth: Work today?
Wol Euler: I have to go downtown to get some shoes replaced or money back, which will probably involve much shouting and rage
Wol Euler: ope
Wol Euler: *nope
Agatha Macbeth: What they don't fit?
Wol Euler: the heels have both worn through in under two months
Agatha Macbeth: Oh my
Wol Euler: yeah
Agatha Macbeth: Korean?
Wol Euler: utter crap
Wol Euler: presumably
Agatha Macbeth: Not vorsprung dürch technik then?
Agatha Macbeth: :p
Wol Euler: whatever the Korean mistranslation of that would be :)
--BELL--
Wol Euler: (and no umlaut in durch)
Agatha Macbeth: We could ask Gaya if she was here
Agatha Macbeth: Oh?
Agatha Macbeth: Thought there was
Agatha Macbeth: Ah well
Agatha Macbeth: Best of luck with your rant
Agatha Macbeth: Bye the noo
Wol Euler: thankee
Wol Euler: and much fun with the dusty family
Agatha Macbeth: Yes
Agatha Macbeth: Springfield
