Mickorod Renard: its been very hot weather here in the uk today, whats it like for you folk?
Eden Haiku: Cold with bits of snow and rain :)
    Riddle Sideways: cool
Eliza Madrigal: hot by UK standards, warm by Miami
    Mickorod Renard: no?
Mickorod Renard: wow, a good selection still
Catrinamonblue Resident: cold but warming up here for the weekend :)
Eden Haiku: They use a lot "meteo cocktail" in the media :)
Mickorod Renard: yay, thats a nice way of putting it
    --BELL--
Mickorod Renard: Is everyone here for the book reading posibilities?
    Eliza Madrigal: I am :)
    Tura Brezoianu: yes
Riddle Sideways: nope, here for lunch
    Eden Haiku: Yes:)
    Eden Haiku: smiles
    Mickorod Renard: great
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Mickorod Renard: well, we wont just talk book..and we havnt officially started either
Eliza Madrigal: the pages may indeed be delicious
    Mickorod Renard: yummy
    Eden Haiku: Hungry :)
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Mickorod Renard: I have prepared a sort of loose format for us to follow
Mickorod Renard: and when I say loose I mean that cos I have no idea what the reading will stimulate
Mickorod Renard: I have a notecard with what i propose initially
Eliza Madrigal is fond of openendedness
Eden Haiku: Just starting but I like the book very much!
Mickorod Renard: and could pass it around
    Eden Haiku: Tks, Mick!
Mickorod Renard: thats great Eden, I have only read a bit at the beginning
Eliza Madrigal: Can you paste it also, so those who read the log can see it, for future sessions?
Eden Haiku: Ah., nice idea Eliza :)
    Tura Brezoianu: hi Raffi
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Raffi
Mickorod Renard: ok will do first and then pass around
    Eden Haiku: Hello Raff!
    Riddle Sideways: hi Raffi
    Mickorod Renard: Hi raffi
    Eliza Madrigal: thank you
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Raffi :)
Mickorod Renard: Hi, just an initial plan for reading. Line numbers are approx.

week one: lines 616 ------1596 starts : Confer of the birds (dear hoopoe, welcome! you will be our guide.)

week two : lines 1597---------2318 starts: choose a leader

week three: lines 2318--------3270 starts: the phoenix

week four: lines 3270-----------4130 starts: Zuleikha has Joseph whipped

week five: lines 4130 ---------end starts: The Journey

Raffila Millgrove: Hi all. sorry to be a bit late. I got some bad news on login.. and was kind of flustered for a bit.
    Riddle Sideways: ?
Eden Haiku: Sorry to hear that Raffi :(
    Mickorod Renard: no rush raffi
    Eliza Madrigal: :( sorry Raffi
    Catrinamonblue Resident: ((raffi))
Raffila Millgrove: odd yes. be ok in a few. sorry to mention.
Mickorod Renard: the book is not as such in pages but more in poetry lines
Mickorod Renard: dont worry if u r not doing book as we wont talk book too much this session
Eden Haiku: You are reading the origin al translation by Darbandi and David Mick?
Mickorod Renard: The idea is to have a go and then discover what we discuss. We may find that we just enjoy the read and stay quiet about our discoveries/explorations. However it may stir huge interest and input by everyone and we need to break it up into smaller chunks. We can go with the flow, stop for a bit and then change if there is a change of heart or better idea's. Mick
    Eden Haiku: *Davis
Eliza Madrigal: I'll have to be watchful to keep track with the PDF, since the Kindle version I bought doesn't seem to be in poetry lines
Riddle Sideways: umm, the PDF does not have line numbers
Mickorod Renard: that is the one I have Eden yes
Tura Brezoianu: my pdf of the Darbandi version doesn't have line numbers. Could you also quote the beginning and ending lines?
Mickorod Renard: ok, I can organise that before next week
    Mickorod Renard: i think
Eden Haiku: Bought 3 of them, then stayed with the PDF, which is very poetic. My favorite until now . Others were useful for overview though :)
Mickorod Renard: but I also included the story names as the seperaters
    Eden Haiku: Good!
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Mickorod Renard: like the Phoenix
Eliza Madrigal: we'll have lots to draw upon
Mickorod Renard: and Choose a leader
Mickorod Renard: so wwe may be able to work it out on kindle by doing a search
    Eden Haiku: Agathita :)
    Mickorod Renard: Hi ags
    Agatha Macbeth: Evening all
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Agatha :) I'll send you a note card with the beginning
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Agatha :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Grazie
Mickorod Renard: my line 616 is the beginning of the conference of the birds after the prologue
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah
    Riddle Sideways: hi Aggers
Eden Haiku: The greetin of the hoopoe?
    Eden Haiku: "Dear hoopoe, welcome! You will be our guide;
It was on you King Solomon relied
To carry secret messages between
His court and distant Sheba’s lovely queen.
He knew your language and you knew his heart -- As his close confidant you learnt the art Of holding demons captive underground,
And for these valiant exploits you were crowned"
Eden Haiku: Mick is our hoopoe :)
Mickorod Renard: ha ha ..loopy maybe
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eden Haiku: likes the invisible crown on Mick's bald head :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Mott the hoopoe
    Eden Haiku: LOL
    Agatha Macbeth: Sorry
    Riddle Sideways: ooooo
Agatha Macbeth: That will confuse the young ones
Mickorod Renard: but yes, what Eden wrote is the first words of the section after the prologue
    --BELL--
Mickorod Renard: which will be week one, taking us up tobirds set off and choose a leader
    Mickorod Renard: The birds*
    Eliza Madrigal: ty
Mickorod Renard: ok, has anyone not got the notecard?
    Riddle Sideways: ty
    Tura Brezoianu: got it
    Mickorod Renard: great
Eden Haiku: Yes, thank you Mick for the notecard :)
Mickorod Renard: ok, if everyone could at least read the prologue
    Mickorod Renard: before next Thursday
    Eliza Madrigal: aye aye
    Agatha Macbeth: Ere ere
Eden Haiku: No prologue in the PDF....
Eden Haiku: I guess I will have to read elsewehere...
Riddle Sideways: do you mean intro?
Mickorod Renard: Then we could start next week, after a brief chat about the prologue with the beginning , my 616 but starting the 'condferenec of the birds@
Mickorod Renard: I think it must be the intro
Eden Haiku: Ah ok, a kind of essay in prose, no poetry for the prologue?
Mickorod Renard: no, there is an intro and a prologue
Agatha Macbeth: This must be the bit where it gets confusing
Eden Haiku: Ah... can't find it now , but have a week to locate it, tks :)
Mickorod Renard: the prologue starts,'all praise to him,who as creater gives
    Eden Haiku: Ah, tks!!!
Eliza Madrigal: yes I've been sitting here looking for the PDF since I only bought the other version
Mickorod Renard: the prologue sounds very religious but dont let it put you off
Eliza Madrigal: since I wasn't starting where you were :)
Raffila Millgrove: what day are we starting officially. is it next Monday?
Eliza Madrigal can appreciate the presence of the appearance of religiosity in this context
Mickorod Renard: I am happy to call it today, but the main story to start next week
    Mickorod Renard: he he Eliza
Agatha Macbeth: Hence the prologue :p
Mickorod Renard: yes, whatever is before the main story..line 616 approx, can be consumed before next week
Eliza Madrigal: Can you tell us more about your inspiration? You have in said a little before about why you chose it, but perhaps not everyone was in those sessions.
Bleu Oleander: 's current display-name is "Bleu".
    Agatha Macbeth: Bleuji :)
    Eliza Madrigal: *-in
    Mickorod Renard: I could do
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bleu :)
Bleu Oleander: hi all, so sorry to be late
    Riddle Sideways: hi Bleu
    Mickorod Renard: Hi bleu
    Mickorod Renard: no worries
    Eden Haiku: Hi Bleu
Mickorod Renard: just setting the format
Agatha Macbeth: We were just working out what the prologue was
Riddle Sideways: and Aggers does Monday
Mickorod Renard: basically, as there are various versions, anything before the main bit
    Bleu Oleander: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh great
Raffila Millgrove: what is "next week". is that on MOnday or Thurs??? please. ty.
Eden Haiku: Ok, so we are free to skip the prologue, especially if we can't find one LOL?
Mickorod Renard: now then, next week is up and down for me, i may not make monday
Bleu Oleander: my part 1 starts with "once upon a time ..."
    Agatha Macbeth: Original
    Riddle Sideways: Thursday, Raffi
    Raffila Millgrove: ok .. thanks.
Riddle Sideways: was joking on Aggers
Catrinamonblue Resident: the version I have has no prologue either.....
    --BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: lunch is not sufficient to keep Riddle out of trouble
Agatha Macbeth glares hard at Rid
    Eliza Madrigal grins
Mickorod Renard: does everyone have ' dear hopopee welcome?
Catrinamonblue Resident: I have a long 11 page essay talking about the background of Attar... then it starts at line 616
    Mickorod Renard: dear hoopee
    Riddle Sideways: yes
    Mickorod Renard: yay, line 616
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Agatha Macbeth: Not the number of the beast
Eliza Madrigal: now that I downloaded regular PDF
Mickorod Renard: great, that will be the start,,official
    Mickorod Renard: :)
Eliza Madrigal: but also no line numbers
Eden Haiku: "once upon a time, in the dim old days, all the biords of the world assembled in solemn conclave to consider a momentous question'" that's the Maria Ruggieri translation of 2018. But not in the original translation.
Tura Brezoianu: Yes, same here. I think that PDF is not quite the full text of the Penguin edition. The notes by "KA" just before "Dear hoopoe..." imply that he omitted the prologue
Agatha Macbeth: So it doesn't begin at the beginning then?
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, that's why the other version seemed much longer, when glancing
    Mickorod Renard: he he
    Bleu Oleander: Hoopoe bird
Mickorod Renard: we havnt started and we are already in great discussion
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Mickorod Renard: :)
    Eden Haiku: LOL
    Agatha Macbeth: Open other end
Eliza Madrigal: oh, hello bird ^.^
Riddle Sideways: don't like any story that don't start with "Once upon a time..."
    Bleu Oleander: they're so beautiful
Mickorod Renard: if all fails we can start at the end and read in reverse
Tura Brezoianu: I must find my paper copy, somewhere in all my boxes of books.
    Agatha Macbeth: Like manga
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Mickorod Renard: ok, what inspired me this choice
    Mickorod Renard: ?
Eliza Madrigal: so you were already familiar Tura, nice
    Eden Haiku: listening
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
    Eliza Madrigal listens
Mickorod Renard: it was Bleu in part
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Mickorod Renard: and also in part my desire to do Rumi
    Agatha Macbeth: She's inspirational
    Bleu Oleander: Aggers :)
    Agatha Macbeth: It's true
Mickorod Renard: Bleu suggested nebcanecher or something
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Mickorod Renard: which we may do after this
    Agatha Macbeth: Neb- what?
    Bleu Oleander: (Gilgamesh?)
Mickorod Renard: Bleu can spell it
    Mickorod Renard: thats it
    Bleu Oleander: lol
    Eliza Madrigal tilts head
    Mickorod Renard: he he
    Catrinamonblue Resident: lol
Eden Haiku: Really funny typo Mick :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh him, right
Mickorod Renard: anyway, I thought it was too big, even tho its small
Eden Haiku: Nebcanecher is Gilgamesh in disguise hehe!
    Agatha Macbeth: Makes sense
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Mickorod Renard: so looked at options, this one the birds just ticked the boxes
Mickorod Renard: as an intro to suffi and persian literature
    Agatha Macbeth: Yay
Mickorod Renard: and it looked enlightening,,in a loose way
    Eden Haiku: Nice :)
Mickorod Renard: has anyone seen one in the flesh?
    Agatha Macbeth: A bird?
    Eliza Madrigal: a sufi?
    Eden Haiku: A hoopoe?
Tura Brezoianu: is that a picture of one?
Bleu Oleander: have never seen one of these birds ... very beautiful
Mickorod Renard: when I lived in France we saw the odd one
    Eliza Madrigal: nice
    Agatha Macbeth: How odd?
Mickorod Renard: they had a strange flight
    Eden Haiku: Oh! Lucky you!
Agatha Macbeth: Beak first into the ground
Mickorod Renard: sort of flew along a few flaps then dropped and then a few flaps again
Eliza Madrigal: Keep your eyes peeled when you travel, Eden :)
Agatha Macbeth: Edie travels a lot
Eden Haiku: Like us dropping every odd 15 minutes for 90 seconds?
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Mickorod Renard: has anyone read the book yet?
    Eliza Madrigal laughs
    Bleu Oleander: yep
Mickorod Renard: yes eden, wow, that could be a message
Eliza Madrigal: flap before dropping before flapping
    Mickorod Renard: he he
Agatha Macbeth: I know the precis
Santoshima Resident: 's current display-name is "San".
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi San :)
    Bleu Oleander: hi San :)
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi San :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello San
    Santoshima Resident: hello eveyone
Santoshima Resident: sorry to be late
    Riddle Sideways: hi San
Santoshima Resident: was looking for a rose
Eden Haiku: Just the few verses at the beginning. So beautiful! I especially like it talks about "carrying secret messages" and this verse: "
Agatha Macbeth: By any other name?
Eden Haiku: "He knew your language and you knew his heart"
    Agatha Macbeth: Mmm
Bleu Oleander: the secrets of the spiritual world
Eden Haiku: Hello San, welcome :)
Mickorod Renard: i found a few lovely verses, very beautiful
    Mickorod Renard: Hi san
Eliza Madrigal: I think one of Rumi's poems has a line like that... secret language that lovers speak... or Hafiz
    Eliza Madrigal: beautiful
Eden Haiku: Yes, it's like coded messages. Like Solomon's Song.
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eden Haiku: So many meanings we can discuss forever :)
Mickorod Renard: I would lovve to languish in LOVE, but modern life tends to make one ruthless and cold hearted..I feel the book may bring me closer to my goals
Bleu Oleander: the Hoopoe is King Solomon's trusted emissary
    Eden Haiku: Yes :)
Eliza Madrigal: "to make love overwhelming in my life" - Mickorod Renard ;-)
    --BELL--
Eden Haiku: Mick, your goal about languishing in LOVE Eliza quoted in her Amsterdam notes is so inspiring! Yes. "to male love overwhelming in my life", tks Eliza :)
    Eden Haiku: *make
    Catrinamonblue Resident: <3
Riddle Sideways: got confused... this photo is of a (which) bird? hoopoe, sufi, Nebcanecher, Gilgamesh
Mickorod Renard: sthankyou for reminding meo, are we in agreement to start reading the main part from next week? or did u want to start this week so we can talk about it next week?
Bleu Oleander: :) Riddle ... the Hoopoe Bird
Eden Haiku: It,s a picture of Nebcanecher Riddle :)))
Mickorod Renard: blimey, I am confused
    Eden Haiku: giggles
    Mickorod Renard: :)
Riddle Sideways: this is a tough class for Mick to manage
Eliza Madrigal runs to freshen tea knowing that by the time she gets back all will be clarified
    Eden Haiku: Optimistic Eliza :)
Mickorod Renard: when I looked at the bird picture first, I thought its head was the other way around
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe he wanted to see where he's been
Bleu Oleander: ha! is it a bird or a rabbit ... perception test :)
Mickorod Renard: ok, so we get through the front stuff this week, and next week discuss any findings,,but also start in earnest on main but?
    Mickorod Renard: bit*
Agatha Macbeth ponders the front stuff
Riddle Sideways: that is the aggreement?
Mickorod Renard: ok ,,we got it
Eden Haiku: ok, we read intros then we start reading the beginning:
    Agatha Macbeth: The prologue
Eden Haiku: How does it work, do we come with short reports Mick?
Mickorod Renard: yeppers, but feel free to read at your own discretion
Mickorod Renard: I would like to think we could
Agatha Macbeth is very discreet (sometimes)
Eden Haiku: Easier this way yes.
Mickorod Renard: there are several stories in each split i have suggested
Mickorod Renard: so we may find we all choose a diferent story to report
Mickorod Renard: or, the same one may appeal to all
Agatha Macbeth: Oh that should be good
Riddle Sideways: that would be neat
Mickorod Renard: it will be an exploration
    Agatha Macbeth: Sure will
Eden Haiku: Yes Agatha, discreet but always right on topic: about the hoopooe's looking backward it seems: [13:49] Agatha Macbeth: Maybe he wanted to see where he's been
Mickorod Renard: and if it doesnt work we may discover a better way
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
Agatha Macbeth: We're good like that
Bleu Oleander: I loved the Nightingale, drowned in the ocean of love for the rose :)
Eden Haiku: It,s all sorted out Eliza :)
    Riddle Sideways: sure
    Eliza Madrigal: I see!
Riddle Sideways: as a non-sequitur: Adobe was going to check for updates and gave the prettiest 404 ever: https://www.adobe.com/404.html

    Agatha Macbeth: Far out man
    Tura Brezoianu: Inception!
    Eliza Madrigal: omgoodness Riddle
Mickorod Renard: are we all happy about how many sections/lines/pages the first biyt is?

Eliza Madrigal: "To the Aztecs, Quetzalcoatl was, as his name indicates, a feathered serpent, a flying reptile (much like a dragon), who was a boundary-maker (and transgressor) between earth and sky. He was a creator deity having contributed essentially to the creation of Mankind." @Riddle, if this is what you 'what'ed. :)
Mickorod Renard: well, anyone who is ahead can bring in pictures for next week
