The Guardian for this meeting was Mickorod Renard. The comments are by Mickorod Renard.

    Raffila Millgrove: heya Mic.
    Mickorod Renard: Hi Raffi
    Mickorod Renard: How are you?
Raffila Millgrove: did you send any notice by email cause I haven't been to check mine yet.
Raffila Millgrove: wondering if people are going to wait to show up on THurs. since that is when you said we'd make official start.
Mickorod Renard: yes, Thursday will be the main day as far as I can tell
Raffila Millgrove: you know Mick.. i was just doodling this around in my head earlier today. thinking about how many people were there last Thurs.
Raffila Millgrove: I wonder if we .. might be thinking about the "report" thing.
Bleu Oleander: 's current display-name is "Bleu".
Bleu Oleander: hi Mick, Storm, Raffi
Mickorod Renard: Hi Bleu, Hi Storm
Raffila Millgrove: maybe there's a different way we could do that.. I dunno. cause it's a lot of peop0le to try to get to each person... at the beginning for anything lengthy. i dunno. Was thinking about it.
Storm Nordwind: Hi! Intuition is a wonderful thing. I knew nothing about this meeting! :)
Mickorod Renard: well, as its the beginning we do need to find the best way
Raffila Millgrove: hello Bleu and storm. I just mention that maybe we should consider doing things a little bit different this round since so many people were interestesd and reading the book.
Raffila Millgrove: so maybe we should consider a bit of adjustment to the old way of having everyone make a report at the beginning??? what do you guys thing?
    Raffila Millgrove: think?
Bleu Oleander: I wasn't sure if we were starting the book today?
Raffila Millgrove: no it's set official for Thurs.
Storm Nordwind is new to this and doesn't know about reports!
Mickorod Renard: well, its never been too ridgid
    Mickorod Renard: rigid
Bleu Oleander: are we meeting Mondays and Thursdays?
Raffila Millgrove: yeah well Storm... we were doing this thing on past couple books. that we arrive and then one at a time.. we go around and people give a report. The thing is that.. it's going to be kinda slow .. trying to do that with a lot of people so we could adjust the format a bit.
Mickorod Renard: but folks could make up a report and offer it on the days
Mickorod Renard: yes, and of course the amount allocated to read each week could be stretched out too
Raffila Millgrove: we could MIck but that is how we did before and it takes a long time with more people. you can't ask the person questions and make comments... it's going to go pretty slow; Not that we couldn't have reports. i didn't mean that. I just meant we might consider how to use them differently.
Storm Nordwind: From what I've picked up so far, there's a few different formats for the book and notably the start is different. After that I think maybe the content is consistent between versions. Maybe it's most useful to have reports when that content has settled down for everyone and we all have the same thing to talk about?
Mickorod Renard: yes, I am open to any idea
Raffila Millgrove: bleu. you agree. that maybe it's too slow with more people. we seem to have many people who came Thurs and will be reading.
    Raffila Millgrove: ?
Mickorod Renard: yes, the prologue etc is not that interesting in my opinion, although any comments will be aired
    Bleu Oleander: yes agree Raffi
Raffila Millgrove: how could we .. tweak that.
    Raffila Millgrove: ??
Mickorod Renard: mmm thats the q..how can it be done dif?
Mickorod Renard: some weeks some folks didnt have reports before
Raffila Millgrove: I see there's going to be a slowdown if we don't tweak but right this second I don't have a solution suggestion. i am pointing out that that we should think of some ideas for that.
Bleu Oleander: I'd be happy to read say 1/4 of the book and then discuss ... not really having formal reports but comments?
Raffila Millgrove: i was hoping someone had brilliant suggestion. lol
    Mickorod Renard: he he
Raffila Millgrove: we could formulate questions. each person maybe ask a question?
Raffila Millgrove: related to what we've read that week?
Mickorod Renard: I like that idea Raffi
Bleu Oleander: I don't really have questions, but might have comments and comments on what others say
Raffila Millgrove: most book groups work off that format. of good questions asked and people replying from their point of view.
Raffila Millgrove: well that's good too. a comment from someone instead of a full report. It doesn't mean that someone couldn't paste in a longer thingo if they wished...
Mickorod Renard: lets take it a week at a time? I see where you mean that we may end up repeating each others comments in repports
    --BELL--
Bleu Oleander: maybe Mick, you could start the discussion each time with an opening question and let it go from there?
Raffila Millgrove: I am happy to come up with couple question too. sometimes one just can say. When you read "lines from book" what struck you?
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Mickorod Renard: or, we could offer up questions by email and then a selection aired in the session?
    Raffila Millgrove: that also.
Raffila Millgrove: we should maybe just start the session with someone having a notecard of questions and just paste them in from time to time as discussion developes. if needed.
Mickorod Renard: ok, I like the ideas..and if it doesnt work or we get spare time in session we can ask for reports?
Raffila Millgrove: i like the email idea too ..we could probably.. do all those things pretty easy.
Mickorod Renard: I as yet am not sure how much questioning or reports the peom will generate
Mickorod Renard: when we went with this I feared the reading club was dead
    Bleu Oleander: hi Bert :)
Raffila Millgrove: true. but at least if we have a plan.. like... having questions ready for a session we should have the fallback ok.. that we can generate discussion.
    Mickorod Renard: Hi Bert
Raffila Millgrove: oh gosh Mick. we are glad you are going to host. We all enjoyed past books so much.
    Raffila Millgrove: Hi Bert.
Bertram Jacobus: hello dear pabers ! :-)
Storm Nordwind: Stepping back a little... what is the purpose of our doing this communal reading and discussion? Is it to go over the book with a fine-tooth comb and critique it? Is it to provide personal and collective inspiration? Or something else? In any case, I think the format should reflect the purpose?
    Bleu Oleander: agree
Raffila Millgrove: well in the past STorm. we did both!
    Mickorod Renard: good point Storm
Mickorod Renard: yes, there is a chance we will all take something personal from it
Bleu Oleander: this book seems more like inspiration then analysis discussion to me
Raffila Millgrove: i think so too.
    Storm Nordwind nods
Mickorod Renard: I am hoping it will inspire but also be reflecting
Bertram Jacobus: sry - may i ask ? : which book is it ?
Mickorod Renard: the conference of the birds
    Mickorod Renard: by attar?
Bertram Jacobus: ah. ty ! :-)
    Mickorod Renard: atar
Mickorod Renard: we are going to take the trip
    Mickorod Renard: he he
Mickorod Renard: how many of us make it to the end will also be interesting
    Mickorod Renard: :)
Mickorod Renard: I must admit, I cannot wait to get started on the journey but the prologue did not inspire me
Mickorod Renard: Storm, have you read it before?
Bleu Oleander: when reading this book I have highlighted many passages that might be discussed ... as I'm sure others have so perhaps we could go around the circle and ask if there are any comments or particular passages that were of interest?
Storm Nordwind: A long long time ago, in the 70s
Mickorod Renard: wow Bleu, you have read the whole book already?
Bleu Oleander: I don't have the prologue in my copy
    Bleu Oleander: yes Mick
Mickorod Renard: thats a long time ago Storm
Mickorod Renard: I feel the prologue is not inportant to us in general
Mickorod Renard: and maybe why its not included in some versions
Mickorod Renard: So Bleu is locked and loaded
    Bleu Oleander: ha ha!
Raffila Millgrove: wow that is just great Bleu.
Mickorod Renard: I decided to read it week by week so as to be fresh ..as my memory is bad
Raffila Millgrove: may I ask if you felt it was a good experience reading it?
Bleu Oleander: I like reading the whole book first and then doing the shorter sections with the group
Storm Nordwind: I've also decided to do a separate book reading for the remainder of my 99 day project. So I will be very busy it seems!
Bleu Oleander: I did over all Raffi
Raffila Millgrove: would you personally recommend it to me if I were to ask you in IM. will i like it?
    Bleu Oleander: it depends
Bleu Oleander: if one is interested in different cultural myths, then yes
Raffila Millgrove: I had to read whole book first too once. cause i was getting antsy and confused. (maxines book)
Raffila Millgrove: the other one.. i went bit by bit. the one before that.
Raffila Millgrove: I mean after. the one after.
Bleu Oleander: I'm reading 1001 Nights now also ... has some similar sensibilities
Mickorod Renard: I am hoping that the individual stories convey messages, either obviously or subtley
Bleu Oleander: I'm very interested in origin stories, cultural myths so interesting for me
    --BELL--
Bleu Oleander: that was part of my recommendation of "rise and fall of adam and eve"
Mickorod Renard: we could have started a week earlier but I felt we needed to be clear of the festivities etc
Bleu Oleander: maybe we can start o
    Bleu Oleander: officially on thursday?
Mickorod Renard: yes, you were inspiring and I hope we are open to doing that other one you suggested next Bleu
Bleu Oleander: perhaps you could send an email to group stating the format and what the first section will be?
Mickorod Renard: Thursday is the official day, but we kept monday open in case some folks couldnt make thursday
    Bleu Oleander: ok good
Bleu Oleander: thursdays are better for me
Mickorod Renard: yes, I am not sure whether the group have got that
Mickorod Renard: in fact I have a notecard I gave last week and copied it into the chat
Raffila Millgrove: yes. if you clarify i think it will help. If people could refer to an email.
Raffila Millgrove: you know mIck I arrived a few minutes late and didn't get the notecard. you still have it maybe?
Bertram Jacobus: "search, love, insight, independence, unity, astonishment and death - all seven stages of the sufi inauguration path" - wow ! ... ;-)
Mickorod Renard: yes Bert, I hope in some small way it is pertinent to pab
    Mickorod Renard: as an exploration
    Bertram Jacobus: i think so
Bertram Jacobus: it is playable i would think ... :-)
    Mickorod Renard: he he
Bertram Jacobus: nice input - ty all !
Bertram Jacobus: ty for the notecard mick !
Mickorod Renard: the amount we cover each week may become too much if folk want to go into it deeply
Mickorod Renard: so we can agree between us if that needs to be changed
Mickorod Renard: we all read at diferent pace and have diferent commitments in life too
Mickorod Renard: Monday is Ags session
Mickorod Renard: but she doesnt come
Storm Nordwind: She is no longer on the Google calendar, even though she is still on the board
Raffila Millgrove: Mic I don't have the notecard. could you pass one to me?
Mickorod Renard: sorry Raffi, I was sure you had one..my appols
Storm Nordwind: In fact I would have missed her session had she come to it because it's not on the calendar!
Bleu Oleander: the board needs to be changed probably
    Bleu Oleander: (makes note)
Mickorod Renard: Its hard for me to commit to Monday but I will try
Bleu Oleander: why not do what we once did, official day is thursday and casual day is monday?
Mickorod Renard: in fact i am out of the country this thursday but feel sure I can get on line
Raffila Millgrove: I am going to try to find Bruce's email and remind him.. cause he hasn't been to these new book session and we don't want him or Aph dropping on us.. they both are so good to have with us.
Mickorod Renard: yes Bleu, thats how I feel it is
    Bleu Oleander: ok :)
Mickorod Renard: they are Raffi, I hoped they would come
Raffila Millgrove: yeah well brucie sometimes just gets into something else and.. i am sure he will welcome the personal touch so we don't lose him.
Mickorod Renard: this Thurday we will ask if everyone can do Thursday
Raffila Millgrove: I hope he's not ill. he is suffering a lot.
Raffila Millgrove: he has mentioned it here and there in chat.
Mickorod Renard: yes, I am sure he said he was up for it
Raffila Millgrove: right. ok. well i will mail him. Aph too.
Mickorod Renard: even Pila sent some words on the subject of this book
Raffila Millgrove: really? what did Pila say or are you saving til later?
    --BELL--
Mickorod Renard: I will re read his mail and make a cutting and post for next session
    Raffila Millgrove: nice!
Bleu Oleander: sorry, I must go ... rl calls
Bleu Oleander: looking forward to thursday
Bertram Jacobus: have a good time bleu !
    Bleu Oleander: bfn
    Mickorod Renard: bye bleu
Mickorod Renard: what I would have liked to do for Thursday was to invite thoughts about the prologue and any other readings etc and picture
Mickorod Renard: but I dont know as yet if anyone has read the prologue
Mickorod Renard: so we may have to improvise this Thursday
Mickorod Renard: so if any of you can bbring aything in it may help
Storm Nordwind: Even if some people haven't (because of their version) I doubt it matters, for they will probably still benefit by sitting in. So I doubt if you need to worry too much about details for that Mick!
Mickorod Renard: then we get reading and offer questions up for perusal for the following Thursday
    Storm Nordwind nods
Mickorod Renard: great, i think we are about sorted then
Raffila Millgrove: I think it's going to go really fine MIck. Espcially if we get lucky and people read your email post ahead of time so they don't have to ask questions on that. on which day this or what about that. but you know.. they probably will. lol
Mickorod Renard: there are quite a few mini stories in the alotted reading section
Mickorod Renard: yes raffi, i could have done without being away from 5am in the morning until next sunday..he he
Bertram Jacobus: dears, i´ll leave for now. ty that i was allowed to be here. may all beings be happy please !
Raffila Millgrove: well once we're in the grove. reading the good parts etc. w should be super. it's ot long either. that helps.
    Mickorod Renard: cheers Bertie
    Bertram Jacobus: namasté ... ;-)
Raffila Millgrove: Bye Bert. hope to see you on Thurs.
Mickorod Renard: ty for being here Bert
    Storm Nordwind: Bye for now!
Bertram Jacobus: i´ll see waht will be possible for me and ty for the invitation raffi ! :-)
Mickorod Renard: btw, did Bleu give you a t shirt?
Bertram Jacobus: ehm - not sure ...
    Mickorod Renard: no worries
Mickorod Renard: I am just trying on a shirt
Storm Nordwind: I can see :)
    Mickorod Renard: yes?
Mickorod Renard: not rezzed for me yet
Raffila Millgrove: I have to do babsit and transport of kiddes on Thurs just before the meet. so if I am late.. well I will get here somehow.
    Mickorod Renard: great raffi
Mickorod Renard: ah, I see the thirt now
Raffila Millgrove: my grand kiddies are my priority. I am so thrilled by them. it is the joy of my life.
Mickorod Renard: yes, same here raffi, i have been away a few days and now going away again and am sad I have not seen them
Storm Nordwind: Your hoopoe is a little brighter than mine, Mick, and probably a more appropriate variety. ;)
Raffila Millgrove: I thought my own kids were quite fab. but i am completely crazy about how wonderful my grandkids are. it's pathetic. ah well. i don't care. i think it's so exciting to have them.
Mickorod Renard: grin, I knowwhat you mean Raffi
Raffila Millgrove: I waited 20 yrs to get them. it was one long time hoping. then they suddenly all came at once.
    --BELL--
Raffila Millgrove: my friends were at their grandkids college graduations when mine finally got here. they were so happy for me, they threw a grandma shower for the first baby.
Mickorod Renard: It was lovely of Bleu to make it for me, I must ask whether its a club shirt or just for me?
    Mickorod Renard: wow Raffi, wonderful
Mickorod Renard: Now guys, I have to pack my bags
Raffila Millgrove: yeah well gee. you wait that long. you going to be so excited to get them.. they seem like miracles.
    Raffila Millgrove: hehe.
    Mickorod Renard: he he
Raffila Millgrove: thank you Mic. Thanks for joining us Storm. it's wonderful to have you.
Mickorod Renard: thankyou so much for being here
