Wol Euler: nabend yaku
Wol Euler: schon wieder Freitag, was?
Wol Euler: I'll get some tea while you are away :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: nabend wol
Yakuzza Lethecus: i got some pieces of chocolate :)
Wol Euler: nice
Yakuzza Lethecus: craving
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: I have no chocs or biscuits, and am trying not to miss them
Yakuzza Lethecus: :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: for me it only helps not to buy them, having them means eating them
Wol Euler: exactly! me too
Yakuzza Lethecus: are you interested in the oculus rift or similar devices in the near future ?
Wol Euler: I don't rule it out, but at the moment I can't see the appeal
Wol Euler: I find the monitor quite immersive enough, actually :)
Wol Euler: I don't need anything else strengthening my addiction
Yakuzza Lethecus: well, i bought a cheap google cardboard, i don´t even know if it works with my old andrioid phone or if it´s possible to stream anything from the pc screen
--BELL--
Yakuzza Lethecus: http://www.tinydeal.com/de/diy-googl...-p-135220.html
Qt Core: Hi Yaku, Wol
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey qt
Wol Euler: hello qt
Yakuzza Lethecus: it will not arrive within a month
Wol Euler: that's a strange device, yaku
Qt Core: Nice tag, Wol, there is method in your madness ;-)
Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: http://www.tinydeal.com/de/diy-googl...-p-135220.html (for qt)
Yakuzza Lethecus: i would not buy an oculus rift, but at that pricetag i was tempted to at least try a bit
Qt Core: interesting, the DIY part rule it ut for me ;-)
Wol Euler: I can't see how it gives a 3d image .......
Wol Euler: perhaps it's just an amusement
Yakuzza Lethecus: it should split the screen and give each eye a different picture, i think it´s side by side
Qt Core: old style stereo images red/green, it need some software too, maybe
Wol Euler: ah, I see
Wol Euler: it's just displaying 3d images fed to the phone
Wol Euler: I thought somehow that it was using the phone camera
Wol Euler: (because of the cutout on the back)
Yakuzza Lethecus: i guess thats to keep its augmented reality possibilities
Yakuzza Lethecus: place an avatar in ur living room full sl animations :P
Wol Euler: perhaps :)
Wol Euler: back in a sec, tea is brewing
Qt Core: i'm thinking how much augmented reality woule increase the experience of sight seeing or visiting museums
Wol Euler: I long for the day that museums have QR codes (or future equivalent) on the display tags, so one can get much more information about things that interest one
Yakuzza Lethecus: yes, those museum walks that google is providing for years would be a lot more immersive
Qt Core: today i went seeing some, and there was a map telling wich pieces were from III century, which from V century and so on... three rooms before, already forgot when i get there
Wol Euler: ha
Wol Euler: bad labelling
Wol Euler: so easy to get wrong, to be fair to them
Wol Euler: simple things, even in the best-run places
Wol Euler: like the Metropolitan Museum in New York: they give you a huge and detailed map of the museum, each room identified with its contents
Wol Euler: on the map the rooms have numbers
Qt Core: or the translation reconstruction of the inscriptions, it would be nice to see them (as an ption) superinposed to the real thing, or as subtitles
Wol Euler: but in reality .... they have NAMES.
Wol Euler sighs.
--BELL--
Qt Core: in thses mdern and modernist times... i almost laughed at an old, ruined inscription that said... "restored in 1665"
Wol Euler smiles.
Qt Core: biggest issues in building subways in Italy, all the ancient things you find while doing the digging
Yakuzza Lethecus: must have been a lot harder to restore original building procedures in those times too, if those actually changed over the centuries
Qt Core: i think that before a couple centuries ago they had little problem restoring as many times they redo or fix things, with no (as we may call it now) respect for the original work
Wol Euler: indeed
Wol Euler: standards have changed greatly
Wol Euler: "restoration" three hundred years ago often meant remaking entirely from scratch, painting over
Wol Euler: they didn't value the *object* of art, but only the image it displayed
Qt Core: like someone fixing some Leonardo work, shuddering at the idea
Wol Euler: we value the object much more, and are willing to have a less-than-perfect image to see (as much as possible of) the original materials
Qt Core: and we have a little more knowledge to help us doing it too
Wol Euler: mmhmm
Qt Core: restoration, especially of painting with modern knowledge of chemistry is hard
Wol Euler nods.
Qt Core: *without
Wol Euler: one of the principles of modern restoring is that whatever you do should be undoable
Wol Euler: so if future generations think you got it wrong, they can try again
Qt Core: like in: Entropy, round two (said in the tone of fighting videogames)
Wol Euler grins.
--BELL--
Qt Core: today, beside sight seeing i had a strange wonderful ice cream, wich taste was "peach cinnamon and basil"
Wol Euler: oooooh
Wol Euler: sounds unusual
Qt Core: and on each spoon you tasted all three of them, in that order
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: wow
Yakuzza Lethecus: hard to imagine the basil in there
Wol Euler: I guess it must have been handmade`?
Qt Core: Schweet! peach, strong and hot cinnamon and the basil very fresh
Qt Core: the shop sign said it was ;-)
Wol Euler: I can't imagine a big company taking a risk with a "strange" flavour like that
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey eos
Eos Amaterasu: hi Yaku, Wol, Qt
Wol Euler: hello eos!
Qt Core: oh, i was thinking in terms of single shop or chains, surely not as big company, mass produced pre-packaged ones
Qt Core: hi Eos
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: [13:49] Qt Core: today, beside sight seeing i had a strange wonderful ice cream, wich taste was "peach cinnamon and basil" [13:49] Wol Euler: oooooh [13:49] Wol Euler: sounds unusual [13:50] Qt Core: and on each spoon you tasted all three of them, in that order
Qt Core: even if there are now chains of almost handmade things/food, basically they own the brand and the recipe/procedure that in the end are still handmade
Qt Core: genuine mass production ;-)
Wol Euler nods.
--BELL--
Yakuzza Lethecus: but thats why ppl like to go to McDonalds and other franchise restaurants, it almost tastes the same and they know what they´re going to get
Wol Euler nods.
Eos Amaterasu: Buckminster Fuller said he like to travel in Holiday Inns because all the rooms were the same so it was like being in the same place
Wol Euler nods.
Qt Core: on a basic practical level that is good
Wol Euler: Stevie Wonder said th same thing, but for a different reason. Being blind, he didn'T have to learn new room layouts
Yakuzza Lethecus: lol, i didn´t know that person, i first thought it was a jokename for a finance minister
Wol Euler: heheheh
Eos Amaterasu: :-)
Wol Euler: a visionary. One of those people who wandered around being clever. Years later nobody is really sure what he did for a living, how he paid his bills :)
Qt Core: (and that is true if you can build the hotels from scratch)
Eos Amaterasu: Wealthy family I believe (Fuller brush)
Eos Amaterasu: Spent quite a few years in total silence at one point in his life
Eos Amaterasu: born cross-eyed
Eos Amaterasu: could only see large scale patterns
Wol Euler: well, that is intriguing
Eos Amaterasu: he had a thing for tetrahedrons :-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: thx for being here, i got to go to bed
Eos Amaterasu: good night, Yaku!
Qt Core: bye Yaku. sleep well
Wol Euler: that was fast :)
Wol Euler: I'll head out as well, it was a long and stressful day
Wol Euler: goodnight, enjoy the weekend
Eos Amaterasu: umm.... sorry to hear... good night
Eos Amaterasu: time to make supper, actually
Eos Amaterasu: bye Wol and Qt
Wol Euler: it'll be okay, the days are long because the office is closed for two weeks starting next thursday :)
Qt Core: tiring nice tourist day for me, bye all
Wol Euler: happy touristing, qt :)
Wol Euler: I hope you find many more nice flavours
Qt Core: :-P
