The Guardian for this meeting was Agatha Macbeth. The comments are by Agatha Macbeth.
Bruce Mowbray: 's current display-name is "Bruce".
Agatha Macbeth: G'day Brucie
Bruce Mowbray: G'DAY!
Agatha Macbeth: Will be off to the reatreat in an hour
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, my typist gets confused....
Agatha Macbeth: You too huh?
Bruce Mowbray: He's experiencing very bad insomnia these days...
Bruce Mowbray: so he's a bit disoriented.
Agatha Macbeth: Aww
Bruce Mowbray: time/space-wise.
Agatha Macbeth: Any particular cause?
Bruce Mowbray: Well, running out of the meds that he's taken for over two decades might have something to do with it.
Bruce Mowbray: He went to the emergency room this morning,
Agatha Macbeth: Oh, right
Bruce Mowbray: but the docs, although very compassionate and sympathetic, were not allowed to prescribe more meds.
Agatha Macbeth: I always make sure I'm fully stocked up
Bruce Mowbray: That has to be done my the primary care physician,
Bruce Mowbray: who is on vacation all this week.
Agatha Macbeth: >.<
Bruce Mowbray: Me too (stocked up) after this week.
Bruce Mowbray: I have had to order meds from INDIA!!!
Bruce Mowbray: What a racket!
Agatha Macbeth: I get mine direct from the chemist
Bruce Mowbray: Health care in America sucks! and is almost totally dysfunctional.
Bruce Mowbray: good plan.
Agatha Macbeth: Yes, so I hear :(
Bruce Mowbray: First you have to convince the docs that you're not a drug addict,
Bruce Mowbray: and then it goes down hill from there.
Agatha Macbeth: It's not exactly brilliant here either, but at least works
Bruce Mowbray: nods.
Bruce Mowbray: be grateful.
Agatha Macbeth: I am!
Bruce Mowbray: :)
Agatha Macbeth pokes Blub
Bruce Mowbray: but my typist is trying to "see it all," and to glean something positive from the experience (from hell, as it were.)
Agatha Macbeth: Thing is, without health very little else matters
Bruce Mowbray: Blubbie giggles.
Agatha Macbeth: Hehe
Bruce Mowbray: Yeppers.
Bruce Mowbray: and without sleep, there is little health left.
Agatha Macbeth: It certainly doesn't help
Agatha Macbeth: Can't you get sleeping pills over the counter?
Bruce Mowbray: My typist has tried ALL of the OTC meds for insomnia, over the past 20 years,
Agatha Macbeth: No good?
Bruce Mowbray: The only thing that works for him is Lorazapam,
Agatha Macbeth nods
Bruce Mowbray: which is a "Schedule 4" drug,
Agatha Macbeth: What does that mean?
Bruce Mowbray: so only his primary care physician can prescribe it -
Bruce Mowbray: not the ER docs.
Agatha Macbeth: Ah
Agatha Macbeth: Oh dear
Bruce Mowbray: In America there are "Schedules" for controlled substances.
Agatha Macbeth: Does the doctor not have a stand-in for these eventualities?
Bruce Mowbray: Heroin is at Schedule 1,
Bruce Mowbray: and Lorazapam (Ativan) is Schedule 4.
Bruce Mowbray: nope.
Agatha Macbeth: How silly
Bruce Mowbray: Must go to the primary care doc, by law.
Bruce Mowbray: but, he's on vacation.
Agatha Macbeth: Is that federal or Ohio law?
Bruce Mowbray: so, come Tuesday morning (since Monday is a national holiday),
Bruce Mowbray: my typist will be going to the sub.
Bruce Mowbray: pleading to be permitted to sleep, alas.
Bruce Mowbray: federal.
Agatha Macbeth: Aww
Agatha Macbeth hugs you
Bruce Mowbray: thank you!
Agatha Macbeth: What do you do with the extra waking hours?
Bruce Mowbray: He's just sort of floating through the experience,
Bruce Mowbray: trying to glean whatever he can,
Agatha Macbeth: Hi Lil ♥
Bruce Mowbray: but he's been here before, and it is not a pleasant ride.
Agatha Macbeth: Well best of luck to him
Bruce Mowbray: TY!
Lila Darkmatter: Hello, happy Sunday
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Lila!
Agatha Macbeth: Was there no retreat scheduled for 7AM?
Bruce Mowbray listens.
Lila Darkmatter: just at 2pm today
Agatha Macbeth: Oh I see
Agatha Macbeth: Trust me to get it wrong
Lila Darkmatter: Did you arrive? If so I'm sorry but hope you made use of the time :)
Agatha Macbeth: Yeh
Bruce Mowbray: away from keyboard for just a sec.
Agatha Macbeth: Couldn't see Bleu on either, so I left
Lila Darkmatter: I think Bleu has stepped away from sessions unless we rework things
Agatha Macbeth: Ah
Agatha Macbeth: Next week hopefully!
Lila Darkmatter: yes, and there have been a few emails exchanged with some proposed changes and ideas
Agatha Macbeth: Well we can talk about it more next Sunday
Lila Darkmatter: so we'll make a kind of questionnaire to include as many people as possible
Lila Darkmatter: yes - hope so!
Agatha Macbeth: Right
Agatha Macbeth: Good idea
Bruce Mowbray: Are you talking about the in-world retreat?
Agatha Macbeth: I had a brief IM exchange with Sharon on Tuesday :)
Agatha Macbeth: Yes Brucie
Bruce Mowbray: kk, thanks.
Lila Darkmatter: Oh, nice
Lila Darkmatter: How is she?
Agatha Macbeth: She says she's well
Bruce Mowbray: (I'm sort of "out of it" right now, sry.
--BELL--1315
Agatha Macbeth: Aww
Agatha Macbeth: Bruce has been having sleeping issues Lil
Bruce Mowbray: FOR SURE!
Lila Darkmatter: no fun - sorry to hear that
Bruce Mowbray: ty,
Bruce Mowbray: actually, I have been sleeping just fine. It's my typist who has the issues.
Agatha Macbeth: Actually that's one thing I never seem to have trouble with
Lila Darkmatter: what is your typist trying, to deal with it?
Agatha Macbeth: Of course
Bruce Mowbray: Count your blessings, aggers.
Agatha Macbeth: I do
Lila Darkmatter: I go through 'bouts' :)
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, in every way he can,
Agatha Macbeth: Frequently
Bruce Mowbray: but the "system" is dysfunctional.
Lila Darkmatter: do you walk as much as you used to with Bear?
Bruce Mowbray: Unfortunately, I cannot walk like that anymore,
Agatha Macbeth: Oh dear
Bruce Mowbray: or I meant to say that my typist cannot walk that way.
Lila Darkmatter: that may be one reason
Bruce Mowbray: Excercise would certinaly help, though.
Bruce Mowbray: yes, for sure.
Lila Darkmatter nods... happens to me when patterns change
Bruce Mowbray: listens for more about patterns changing.
Lila Darkmatter: just that one can be tired mentally from being active, but then the body doesn't necessarily follow
Bruce Mowbray: agreed.
Bruce Mowbray: My typist had a very rough week in Chicago last week,
Lila Darkmatter: what happened?
Bruce Mowbray: and his patterns changed abrubtly,
Bruce Mowbray: and then he started running out of the meds he's taken for 20 years,
Bruce Mowbray: and that didn't help a bit.
Lila Darkmatter: eep
Bruce Mowbray: So, now he has to go to his primary care doc -
Bruce Mowbray: who is on vacation all this week.
Bruce Mowbray: WHEW!
Lila Darkmatter: good to check in anyway :)
Bruce Mowbray: It will get better!
Agatha Macbeth: Hope so!
Bruce Mowbray: I hear there is a substitute doc available.
Bruce Mowbray: Meanwhile, he has ordered meds from Inda,
Bruce Mowbray: for heaven's SAKE!
Lila Darkmatter: hm :)
Bruce Mowbray: India.
Agatha Macbeth: Hm
Bruce Mowbray: NOT his preference, to be sure!
Lila Darkmatter: understood... didn't realize you'd been on a medication for that long
Agatha Macbeth: Probably just cheaper
Bruce Mowbray: Desperate diseases call for desperate cures?
Bruce Mowbray: NO!
Bruce Mowbray: Over four times more expensive, actually.
Agatha Macbeth: 0.0
Bruce Mowbray: $240 American dollars for 60 pills.
Agatha Macbeth: So what's the point?
Lila Darkmatter: yikes
Bruce Mowbray: The point is being able to sleep.
Agatha Macbeth: That's just silly
Bruce Mowbray: Yikes!
Bruce Mowbray: Silly serious.
Agatha Macbeth: Why not get them from nearer home
Lila Darkmatter: so a regular night time advil won't do it?
Bruce Mowbray: Because I have to have a doc prescribe them,
Agatha Macbeth: OMG
Bruce Mowbray: and the doc will not do that until the present Rx runs out on June 4th.
Bruce Mowbray: so, I have to convince the docs that I (my typist)_ is not an addict.
Bruce Mowbray: Whew!
Bruce Mowbray: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Bruce Mowbray: Yikes!
Agatha Macbeth: Some chance you have of that
Lila Darkmatter: recently, it was discovered (like it was for research about heart attacks several years ago) that all the studies were being done on male mice, which explained why women were having a much stronger reaction to things like ambien
Bruce Mowbray: YES!
Bruce Mowbray: I have read those studies!
Lila Darkmatter: such a crazy blind spot
Bruce Mowbray: (My typist has also taken Ambien and it doesn't work for squat with him.)
Agatha Macbeth: And these people are supposed to be intelligent?
Lila Darkmatter: Hi Wol :)
Agatha Macbeth: Hiya Wollie ♥
Wol Euler: evening all
Bruce Mowbray: WOLY!!!!
Agatha Macbeth looks round for Bruce
Lila Darkmatter: :))
Wol Euler: sorry I'm lage
Wol Euler: *late, even
Agatha Macbeth: Oh there you are
Bruce Mowbray: I'm late; I'm late; for a very important date!
Bruce Mowbray: Yikes!
Agatha Macbeth: Being lage is no fun
Lila Darkmatter: when I'm lage I usually don't mention it
Lila Darkmatter giggles
Agatha Macbeth: Laging it
Lila Darkmatter: brb tea is ready
Agatha Macbeth: Anyway...
Wol Euler smiles.
Agatha Macbeth: How's Wol
Wol Euler: mine isn't just yet
Bruce Mowbray: Due to recent studies in neurobiology, I no longer say "I think" but rather, "I brain..." It seems more accurate an expression.
Wol Euler: well, had a frustrating day at work, but looking forward to the end of the retreat tonight
Agatha Macbeth: Aww *hug*
Bruce Mowbray: oh dear!
Bruce Mowbray: Working on Sunday!?
Bruce Mowbray: Yikes!
Bruce Mowbray: ♥
Lila Darkmatter: haven't even gotten to the beginning yet :) hope you look forward to that too ^.^
Lila Darkmatter: beginning of the end....
Agatha Macbeth: Or end of the beginning
Bruce Mowbray: We return to the place we started from and see it for the first time.
Bruce Mowbray: :)
Lila Darkmatter smiles
Agatha Macbeth: Ah yes
Wol Euler smiles.
Bruce Mowbray: drop approaches.
Lila Darkmatter: ::drops approaches::::
Bruce Mowbray waits....
--BELL--1330
Bruce Mowbray: Vows to stay in the moment better from here on out.
Wol Euler smiles.
Agatha Macbeth: The bells!
Bruce Mowbray hopes the in-world retreat is going well, and respects the confidentiality of it.
Wol Euler: it's a struggle
Agatha Macbeth: Not much to be confidential about :p
Lila Darkmatter: :) true
Bruce Mowbray: hmmm.
Lila Darkmatter: and thanks
Wol Euler: "normal" retreating is so much easier
Bruce Mowbray: I would have loved to be part of it this time, but my typist seems to have had other priorities.
Bruce Mowbray: Alas.
Wol Euler: leaving everything behind and entering a closed artificial environment
Bruce Mowbray: hmmmm.
Lila Darkmatter: maybe next time, Bruce, when feeling better
Wol Euler nods.
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I surely hope so, thanks.
Agatha Macbeth: And vegan-free ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: HA HA!
Agatha Macbeth dies from laughing....
Bruce Mowbray dies from laughing....
Lila Darkmatter: the retreat is pleasant, and helpful... but gives just enough taste of retreating that one begins to long to really dig in
Bruce Mowbray: 2 can do that!
Bruce Mowbray: nods, and agrees.
Wol Euler: phone
Lila Darkmatter: mailbox
Bruce Mowbray wonders where his avi disappeared to.
Agatha Macbeth: Uh oh
Bruce Mowbray: NOT AGAIN!
Agatha Macbeth: Under the fountain again?
Lila Darkmatter throws in scuba gear
Agatha Macbeth: Yes, I still see Blubster
Bruce Mowbray: probably.
Bruce Mowbray: I shall return!
Bruce Mowbray: 's current display-name is "Bruce".
Lila Darkmatter: must have found the tunnels
Bruce Mowbray: I guess it's a matter of "vai health."
Agatha Macbeth: The strange case of the vanishing avatar
Bruce Mowbray: avi health, sry.
Lila Darkmatter: :)
Bruce Mowbray: AHHH!
Agatha Macbeth: WB
Bruce Mowbray: ty.
Bruce Mowbray: Avi imitates typist imitates avi.
Bruce Mowbray: Yikes!
Agatha Macbeth: Art imitating life imitating art
Agatha Macbeth: Or something
Bruce Mowbray: By JOVE, I think he's Got it!
Agatha Macbeth: Is it contageous?
Agatha Macbeth: Oh poo, we'll miss Berti today
Lila Darkmatter: I thought of that earlier... apologies
Bruce Mowbray: A pugnacious goldfinch is chasing away a brilliant red cardinal from the feeder outside my typist's window.
Agatha Macbeth: Ah well
Bruce Mowbray: Small wonders.
Agatha Macbeth: He didn't even show up last week
Bruce Mowbray: OH I surely hope he will be there today.
Bruce Mowbray: I even went an hour earlier than usual,
Agatha Macbeth: Think I saw him come on
Bruce Mowbray: (supposedly to be able to get a seat???)
Agatha Macbeth: Yes, he's on
Bruce Mowbray: Not really, just lost track of time.
Bruce Mowbray: (checks to see if Berti's on.)
Bruce Mowbray: He;s not.
Agatha Macbeth: He'll probably be sending a note out shortly
Agatha Macbeth: I see him on
Bruce Mowbray: or else, I have not "friended" him yet.
Bruce Mowbray: kk.
Agatha Macbeth: That may be it
Bruce Mowbray: I should "friend" Berti when I can.
Bruce Mowbray: for sure.
Agatha Macbeth: Yep there it is
Agatha Macbeth: Think he was one of my first
Bruce Mowbray: One more dysfunction that my typist seems unable to handle.
Lila Darkmatter: :)
Bruce Mowbray: Just received a notice from Bert.
Lila Darkmatter: (re a mention you made of brain studies earlier, Bruce: http://aeon.co/magazine/being-human/...consciousness/ ) - may enjoy later
Bruce Mowbray: TY!

Lila Darkmatter: have meant to email feedback too, Bruce, on your excellent talk on gnosticism. You are truly a very good teacher - quite clear and entertaining!
Bruce Mowbray: OH MY!
Bruce Mowbray: THANKS so much!
Lila Darkmatter: thanks for sharing with me
Bruce Mowbray: There were to lessons. Did you hear both?
Bruce Mowbray: two*
Agatha Macbeth admires Lila's tatooed feet
Lila Darkmatter: Only the second... I was listening to the first when you took the file down and didn't get it back :)
Bruce Mowbray: kk, I will give you the link to the first, if you like.
Lila Darkmatter: thank you, yes I would
Bruce Mowbray: (I think it was better than the 2nd, actually.)

Lila Darkmatter: omgoodness... this was excellent
Agatha Macbeth: The dessert song
Lila Darkmatter: oldest daughter took me to a favorite restaurant of hers, so she could outline what she thinks the proper dating boundaries for me should be, hahah
Agatha Macbeth: Oh that's thoughtful of her
Lila Darkmatter: am really kind of tickled about the whole thing... was funny
Lila Darkmatter: and sweet from a certain angle
Bruce Mowbray: Here is the link, Lila:
Bruce Mowbray: hermitdog.com/Gnosticism_May_4_2014.mp3
Lila Darkmatter: thanks much, Bruce!
Lila Darkmatter clicks and saves
Bruce Mowbray: You are most welcome!
Agatha Macbeth: Daughters should always be listened to...shame I never had one
Lila Darkmatter: aw
Bruce Mowbray: Me neither, aggers.
Lila Darkmatter: have them when/if daughters in law
Agatha Macbeth smiles
Bruce Mowbray: nor sons, alas.
Agatha Macbeth: Yeh
Lila Darkmatter: for years before my son was born, I was "insertnamehere and the girls"
Agatha Macbeth: Ha
Lila Darkmatter: "kids" has never seemed quite right to replace it
Lila Darkmatter: and they only stay "children" so long
Agatha Macbeth: Sadly
Lila Darkmatter: :)
Lila Darkmatter: sweet melancholy
Bruce Mowbray: :)
Agatha Macbeth sighs
Agatha Macbeth: So sad when you can't pick them up any more
Lila Darkmatter: they grow up, but in some ways you still see them when they were little in their grown-up selves
Lila Darkmatter: oooh, true!!
Agatha Macbeth: Oh of course
Lila Darkmatter: that's a weird feeling, no more putting on hip
Agatha Macbeth: Right
Lila Darkmatter: sigh
Bruce Mowbray ponders "putting on hip."
Lila Darkmatter: :)) My younger daughter used to demand to be on my hip constantly, especially when cooking
Agatha Macbeth: Learning for the future
Bruce Mowbray: ahhh!
Bruce Mowbray remembers three kids in the tub.
Lila Darkmatter nods... but the oldest wouldn't stay still that long :)
Bruce Mowbray: ha ha!
Lila Darkmatter: I was thinking about that today, Bruce... took a long bath to go with retreating mode
Bruce Mowbray: OH MY!
Lila Darkmatter: was hoping guidance would float up
Agatha Macbeth: That's what we need up there... a bath
Lila Darkmatter: yes :))
Lila Darkmatter: or floats for the waterfall
Bruce Mowbray: nods.
Agatha Macbeth: Yeh
Lila Darkmatter: Okay... better go
Agatha Macbeth: Yep
Bruce Mowbray: I'm off to Berti's, folks.
Lila Darkmatter: I hope you are able to rest soon Bruce
Agatha Macbeth: Three mins
Bruce Mowbray: THANK YOU EACH AND ALL!
Lila Darkmatter: see you ladies soon
Agatha Macbeth: Think Eos is already there
Agatha Macbeth: TC Brucie
Agatha Macbeth: Try to sleep well
Agatha Macbeth: C'mon Wollie
Wol Euler: see you there later
