The Guardian for this meeting was Wol.
Wol Euler: buongiorno Qt
Qt Core: Buongiorno Wol
Wol Euler: how's life?
Qt Core: all said and done almost good, yours ?
Wol Euler: quite good :)
Wol Euler: still having a bit of trouble with jetlag, I was awake in the night for a few hours
Qt Core: a whole week after ?
--BELL--
Wol Euler: yeah, it can take up to two weeks
Wol Euler: I think it's harder this time because I am also fighting off a heavy cold
Qt Core: from the only time i travelled between tile lines it seems i don't have such problems... and that make the fact that i don't travel sadder ;-)
Wol Euler: depends on how old you were at the time :) I never had it as a child or teenager either
Qt Core: i was in my late '30
Wol Euler: ah, then you might be one of the rare lucky ones
Qt Core: but then my sleep was already disrupted by family issues so my system was already in sleep when you can and be awake if you have" mode
Wol Euler: so you live in permanent jetlag :)
Qt Core: now that can be true
Qt Core: brb
Qt Core: back
Wol Euler: wb
Qt Core: just watched this and just mesmerized by the energy of it, obviously the ending considerations make it a little sad: http://www.wimp.com/glacierbreak/
--BELL--
Wol Euler: wow
Wol Euler: amazing, thank you
Qt Core: the weird feeling of so much energy in such a cold place, one would expect it from a volcano...
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: and in something so still and passive suddenly turning active
Wol Euler: like an earthquake
Qt Core: i was just thinking about the rock giant from the never ending story (from the movie, it is so much time since i read the book)
Wol Euler: hmmmm, have to read that again, I don't remember
Qt Core: i have a bicolor edition, that is printed in green or the rl part and in red for the fantasy world (or the other way), i remember it made strange things to my vision ;-)
Wol Euler: that sounds familiar
Wol Euler: I wonder where my copy is
Qt Core: just located mine but now i wonder where Momo is (another Ende book)
Wol Euler: I take it that you too don't keep your books in order? ;)
--BELL--
Qt Core: ;-) they are only dewey numbered and all in a database, we changed the 800 codes from author origin to "type of book" probably Momo went into novels before i created a specific fantasy code ;-)
Wol Euler: O.O
Wol Euler: a Dewey numbered home library. Wow.
Wol Euler: I used to have my shelves organized by type and theme, but that stopped working when my books overran the storage available. Now most shelves are double-rowed
Qt Core: moving books around was one of my family favorite pastime
Wol Euler smiles.
Qt Core: now i slowed down the buying rate so there is no more needs of great shifting (and bookcases buying) needs
Qt Core: sometimes i think i'll never be able to read all the books we own (even because some don;t really interests me)
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: that's a good sign
Wol Euler: I realized at christmas this time that there are many books in my parents' house that I still haven't read, even after Mom has been getting rid of them
Qt Core: and because, as Frank Zappa said "So many books, so little time"
Wol Euler nods.
Qt Core: when i go searching for a book to read i know there are some, ok many or a lot, but which one first ? Which book is the best at the moment ?
Wol Euler: indeed
Wol Euler: my rule of thumb, which served me well, is never to read a *new* book, but to let it age a year or two. Reviewers are in the business of selling books, and the media that print book reviews are in the business of selling ads. There is necessarily a lot of praise given to books that deserve less of it, if they are the only books available to review that day or week.
Wol Euler: if people still talk about a book a year after it was released, then it's probably worth reading
Qt Core: did you bring some of your mother's book home ?
Wol Euler: yes
Wol Euler: their library was the foundation of mine :)
Wol Euler: going back decades now
Qt Core: ;-)
Qt Core: a few years ago i thought that in future i may move from where i live, i was thinking about a way smaller place, then i almost got sick when thinking what to do with the books
Wol Euler: mmhmm
Qt Core: (damn fantasy authors and all their sequels ;-) )
Wol Euler: heheheh
Qt Core: ( my eyes just passed on the ten books of the sword of truth saga)
Wol Euler: and damn the slow ones even more. How long have we been waiting for the sixth "Game of Thrones" book?
--BELL--
Qt Core: i almost made a vow not to buy unfinished sagas (or at leas unfinished cycles) so i haven;t read any games of thrones, considering starting the wheel of time
Qt Core: ops, i need to run, have to be somewhere 1 minutes ago!
Wol Euler: bye! take care
Qt Core: books will be my death, bye
Wol Euler: heheheh
Wol Euler: what a way to go, though
Wol Euler smiles.
