    Qt Core: Hi Bruce!
    Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Qt!
Bruce Mowbray: Long time no see.
Bruce Mowbray: How are you doing?
Qt Core: quite good, i won't be back to work until the 25th and i just come back from watching Star Trek beyond (yes i know, the world is quite a bad place lately but one gets what he can), you ?
    Bruce Mowbray: Wow!
Bruce Mowbray: So you have a whole month of vacation?
Bruce Mowbray: I'm learning how to program a new robot that I bought.
Qt Core: three weeks now and another weeks in September, for a couple of reasons i tend to accumulate a lot of vacation time
    Bruce Mowbray: Wonderful!
Bruce Mowbray: I have not seen the new Star Trek movie....
Bruce Mowbray: Did you like it?
Qt Core: i feared it lacked the trek spirit, was assured by someone blog i trust that it was good and yes, it was good
    Bruce Mowbray: Great!
Bruce Mowbray: I have not been to a movie theater since AVATAR.
    Bruce Mowbray: Years ago.
Qt Core: i have seen three movies since last Christmas and a some past summer, very unusual for me
Bruce Mowbray: The nearest actual movie theater is 45 miles away from where I live, and I think they cost too much, anyway.
Bruce Mowbray: So much easier to download them.
Bruce Mowbray: I have a hookup so I can get streaming movies through the internet.
Qt Core: yes, the cost was high, 10.5 euros , 10,73 dollars
Bruce Mowbray: http://www.streamlive.to/    Wow.  That’s expensive.
    Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Adams!
    Qt Core: (Hi Adams
Adams Rubble: Hello Bruce and Qt :)
Bruce Mowbray: QT just saw the new Star Trek movie.
    Adams Rubble: :)
Qt Core: may be useful, as my fiber modem was just upgraded i now can download at 19.7 Mbs
    Bruce Mowbray: WOW!!! That's FAST!
Bruce Mowbray: I download at about 2 Mbs.
Bruce Mowbray: but that is fast enough for streaming movies.
Qt Core: for 5 more euros/ months i could get 100 but when one need that ?
Bruce Mowbray: I am way out in the country, so there is only one fast ISP available.
Bruce Mowbray: and I have their fastest plan.
Bruce Mowbray: $130 USD per month.
Bruce Mowbray: but it is worth it.
    Adams Rubble: WOW
Qt Core: in this area switching operator i may go up to 300 mbs
Bruce Mowbray: To get all the cable channels....
    Bruce Mowbray: Wow!

    --BELL—

Bruce Mowbray: Cute!  (on seeing Adams’ shoulder pet)

Bruce Mowbray: I was telling QT that I'm learning how to program a new robot, Adams.

Qt Core: for the 20 i get and phone i'm around 35 a month funnily enough if i would accept the equivalent of cable tv i may spend less, but i don't want it around
Adams Rubble: Faenik came up in the discussion the other day and I remembered that fael had made one for me

    PaB_1.png
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I remember that, Adams.
Adams Rubble: Faenik had the first three letters of fael and Adael the first three letters of Adams
Bruce Mowbray: could only imagine what Faenik might look like.
Adams Rubble: I did not want to use Adael in PaB because it was fael's thing
Qt Core: is that the cute crossbreed between a cat and a tribble you have on your shoulder
Adams Rubble: Adael is an exact copy of Faenik
    Bruce Mowbray: Identical twins?
Adams Rubble: Adael has been to lots of PaB discussions but in my inventory :)
    Adams Rubble: yes, identical twins
Adams Rubble: you can tickle Adael by touching it
Adams Rubble: An SL robot or a RL robot Bruce?
    Bruce Mowbray: A RL robot.
Bruce Mowbray: It is designed for kids 7 and up...
Qt Core: which language does it understand ?
Bruce Mowbray: They have some cool picture programming languages for kids. (Scratch and Blockly)
Bruce Mowbray: But I use a form of Java.
Bruce Mowbray: Still, it is a learning curve for me.
    Adams Rubble: very brave :)
Bruce Mowbray: It understands JavaScript and some other languages... I think.
Bruce Mowbray: I figured that if a 7 year old could make it go, then I should be able to.
Bruce Mowbray: So, have written only three programs. And it cooperates well with what I want it to do...
Bruce Mowbray: Yesterday, I mounted my cell phone camera on it and made a movie of its travels... as seen from the robot..
Bruce Mowbray: sort of mouse-view in RL.

    [ Here is the movie:   http://www.hermitdog.com/Robot_First_Run.mp4 ]

    Qt Core: :-)
Bruce Mowbray: It is called a Thymio.
Bruce Mowbray: Have you heard of that? Qt Core: no
    Adams Rubble: no
    Bruce Mowbray: http://www.techykids.com/
Bruce Mowbray: There are some good videos there...

Bruce Mowbray: It's fun to keep the ol' gray matter on a learning curve.
Bruce Mowbray: I'm teaching the robot to draw geometric designs using a marker pen.
Bruce Mowbray: squares, triangles, stars, and such.
Adams Rubble: good to keep challenging oneself :)
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I feel that way.
Bruce Mowbray: So, learning a slightly new programming language is good for me.
Bruce Mowbray: especially fun when one can watch the robot go through the motions that I've programmed it to do.
    Bruce Mowbray: in RL space.
Qt Core: it seem interesting am all open sourced, even the robot specs

    --BELL—

Bruce Mowbray: Hmmm. I think it's great that little kids are learning to do this so young:
    Bruce Mowbray: http://www.techykids.com/category/pr...ymio-projects/
Adams Rubble: yes, I have always felt they should be teaching programming
    Bruce Mowbray nods, agrees.
Bruce Mowbray: Thymio is made in Switzerland....
Bruce Mowbray: but I am in touch with a distributor in the US, who has been MOST helpful with my orders...
Bruce Mowbray: I now can operate it without the need of a extension cord --- so through a limited version of wi-fi...
Bruce Mowbray: and now the wires don't get all tangled up when It draws geometric shapes.
    Bruce Mowbray: :)
    Adams Rubble: :)
Bruce Mowbray: It is soooo hot where I am.
Bruce Mowbray: They say that we're under a "heat dome" that's been sitting on top of us for two weeks so far.
Adams Rubble: we are\ in a deluge
    Bruce Mowbray: Really?
Bruce Mowbray: I've been doing my rain dance every day...
Adams Rubble: it worked here :)
Bruce Mowbray: was successful once this week. half an inch.
Bruce Mowbray: Are you in Europe, Adams?
    Adams Rubble: no, NJ
    Bruce Mowbray: Ahhh!
Bruce Mowbray: Well then, you just got the results of my rain dance this week.
Adams Rubble: we get your used weather Bruce
    Bruce Mowbray: Ha ha.
Bruce Mowbray: You're welcome to it....
Bruce Mowbray: but I wish we had more chance here to "use" it than we've been getting.
Qt Core: mostly sunny, with thunderstorms keeping it from getting too hot, 30/32C today i think, high 80 in F i think
Adams Rubble: it has been mostly dry here this summer but not as dry as New England
    Bruce Mowbray: Hmmmm.
Bruce Mowbray: For the past few years, storm fronts seem to break apart just as they come over the farm,
Bruce Mowbray: and then come back together again after they've passed us by.
Bruce Mowbray: My farmer and I have a few theories about why that is.
Adams Rubble: storms can be very local
    Bruce Mowbray: Yes, very spotty.
Bruce Mowbray: But even the really big fronts break apart when they come over the farm.
Bruce Mowbray: We are thinking it might be hot parking lots in a city about 15 miles away - causing thermals.
Adams Rubble: I don't mind it when the snow storms pass us by :)
Bruce Mowbray: or maybe something to do with the terminal moraine.
Bruce Mowbray: I love stow storms - now that I don't have to drive to work on icy roads.
Bruce Mowbray: Do you know what a "moraine" is, QT?
Qt Core: no, going to ask google ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: Moraines are the earth that the glaciers pushed up -- like bull dozers...
Bruce Mowbray: and the point where the glacier stopped is called the "terminal" moraine.
Bruce Mowbray: and we can see it from my farm.
    Bruce Mowbray: (looking south).
Bruce Mowbray: like a small mountain range.
Qt Core: ohh, it sounded familiar, in Italian is morena
Bruce Mowbray: north of the moraine, the land is mostly flat.
    Bruce Mowbray nods.
Bruce Mowbray: My neighbor found two Martian meteorites last week.
    Qt Core: !
Bruce Mowbray: Only 96 of them have ever been found in the whole world:
    Bruce Mowbray: http://www.imca.cc/mars/martian-meteorites-list.htm
Bruce Mowbray: and Matt found TWO! I am totally convinced that they really are Martian meteorites, too.
    Bruce Mowbray: https://www.google.com/search?q=mart...x1iCOTzYlAM%3A
    --BELL—

Bruce Mowbray: Lunar meteorites are far more common.
Qt Core: being so rare you should get them checked by an expert
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, that's what I told Matt.
Bruce Mowbray: He will need to have them chemically analyzed to be sure.
Bruce Mowbray: But from the photos and descriptions of the interior, I'm already convinced that they are the real McCoy.
Bruce Mowbray: Some collectors are offering up to $4,000 per gram for them.
Bruce Mowbray: and Matt has TWO - both about one pound each.
    Bruce Mowbray: http://www.aerolite.org/meteorite-buyers.htm
Adams Rubble: I hope it works for him :)
    Bruce Mowbray: Me too.
Adams Rubble: I must go; thanks for the chat :)
    Bruce Mowbray: kk, thanks, Adams.
    Adams Rubble: bye for now
    Bruce Mowbray: Bye!
    Qt Core: Bye
Bruce Mowbray: Matt and another guy found them.
Bruce Mowbray: Matt says there are a lot of them where his two came from...
Bruce Mowbray: He says he could fill a bucket.
    Qt Core: !
Bruce Mowbray: And that made me suspicious that they are not the real thing.
Bruce Mowbray: But they sure LOOK and feel like it -- very heavy.
    Qt Core: yes, that's suspicious
Bruce Mowbray: heavier than ANY stone.
Bruce Mowbray: and NOT magnetic, as most meteorites are.
Bruce Mowbray: Martian meteorites are not magnetic...
Bruce Mowbray: have almost no iron in them, like most other meteorites do.
Bruce Mowbray: So, would you recommend that I see the Star Trek movie, Qt? I mean, would it be worth a 45 mile trip to Columbus and back?
Qt Core: i recommend it but not enough for such a trip, it can wait when it get out on netflix/cable whatever
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, that's what I'll do.
Bruce Mowbray: I have not seen any of the other Star Trek movies.... only the TV series.
Bruce Mowbray: I really enjoyed "The Next Generation."
Qt Core: then i may suggest all of them, maybe avoid the 6th, "in search of god"
    Bruce Mowbray: Oh great!
    Bruce Mowbray: Thanks.
Bruce Mowbray: I might be able to download them through torrents.
Bruce Mowbray: -- avoiding the 6th.
Bruce Mowbray: Well, sir, time for me to be scraping up dinner.
Bruce Mowbray: Good to see you again.
Bruce Mowbray: It has been too long.
Qt Core: i watched all of them but the second of the reboot, into the darkness, for me the trek universe is anything but dark
Qt Core: bye Bruce, have fun
Bruce Mowbray: Hmmm. OK.. You too!
    Bruce Mowbray: Bye for now.
