The Guardian for this meeting was Wol...
Qt Core: Hi floating Wol
Wol Euler chuckles.
Wol Euler: good morning, kneeling Qt
Wol Euler: there is another floaty if you like :)
Wol Euler: nice outfit by the way
Qt Core: being on vacation one try the see if looking the part helps
Wol Euler: oh, are you logging in from Cattolica?
Qt Core: no, that will be next month
Qt Core: but i'm on my three week at home vacation now
Wol Euler: ah, oky
Qt Core: and plan to go to a pool to see if i remember how to swim and to learn how to tan
Wol Euler: heheheheh
Wol Euler: practice makes perfect, they say
Wol Euler: I couldn't tell you how many decades ago I last had a full tan
Qt Core: if i ever had one it was before i knew the word for it
Wol Euler laughs.
Wol Euler: I used to, everyone did when I was a kid
Wol Euler: it was accepted that you'd burn bright red for a week and then be dark as mahogany by the time you returned to school
Wol Euler: that was just natural
Qt Core: yes, but were you tanning or just play around under the sun ?
Wol Euler: oh playing.
Qt Core: i think i will end up with the white shape of a book or a kindle on my lower face/upper torso if i ever try "rea;
--BELL--
Qt Core: tanning
Wol Euler: heheheh
Wol Euler: trying-to-tan by laying still in the sun is one of the silliest things I know
Wol Euler: how dull
Qt Core: mmm, maybe audiobooks.. i never tried them
Wol Euler: my parents loved those for long car trips
Wol Euler: since they were both readers (enjoyed literature) but one can
Wol Euler: can't read while driving and navigating
Wol Euler: ha, that dates it. Pre-satnav
Qt Core: i'm trying to remember what we did in longer car trip and i really can't remember, i remember only the one trip when brakes failed (no crash and no injured but scary)
Wol Euler: lucky
Qt Core: we ended up having to change all 4 brakes... and the car had its check-up les than a week before it...
Wol Euler: huh
Qt Core: it was in mid '80 and it was the first time i saw a mechanic with a perfectly pressed uniform and a very clean workshop, he even had white, almost shining shoes
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: that's quite a statement (he is making)
Wol Euler: I remember that change from messy to clean, in so many trades
Wol Euler: and workplaces
Wol Euler: I went on a tour of a car factory in the early 80s (Ford, the line making the Sierra) and was surprised at how clean and bright it was.
Qt Core: at the time i wondered why he was trying to contain the spilling of the brake system with some container on the floor
--BELL--
Wol Euler: I think the rise of "worker health and safety" was the trigger for that change
Qt Core: it was also before laws on disposal of oils and others pollutant
Wol Euler: clean places are safer, generally speaking
Wol Euler: also true
Qt Core: and i think it was also the first time i entered an official car maker workshop and not a family business one
Wol Euler: ah! surely also a factor :)
Qt Core: for my own amusement i recently went to the Tesla website to see their offer, the smallest one is "only" in the 85/92 thousand euros range ;-)
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: and yet people are queueing up to buy them
Wol Euler: I have a lot of respect for Elon Musk and his companies
Qt Core: and yet Tesla just posted a 292 million dollar loss
Wol Euler: hmmmmm
Wol Euler: I missed that
Qt Core: but even amazon posted losses for many years
Qt Core: it just matters of getting it working before money end
Wol Euler: yes
Wol Euler: "cash burn rate" was the expression
Qt Core: that evokes an image of lighting cigars with 100$ bills...
Wol Euler smiles.
--BELL--
Wol Euler: or paying 30,000 dollars for a single seat to fly from Asia to the US
Wol Euler: once
Wol Euler: a very luxurious seat, to be sure, in fact a cabin
Wol Euler: but still
Qt Core: on another hand a couple famous italian chefs just posted a selfie on an economy flight and were insulted as being cheap
Wol Euler nods.
Qt Core: while a tv host and wife taking a private flight were insulted too for being snobbish... you know that you cant do it right whatever choice you take
Wol Euler: but people post photos of Bernie Sanders sitting beside them in economy, usually asleep, and he is praised for being "genuine" and economical
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: we (species) seem to enjoy being offended by each other
Qt Core: or to just believe we are the right one ;-)
Wol Euler smiles.
Qt Core: the only issue in that pic i saw is that one of those two chefs may need the extra space of a better seat: https://www.google.it/search?q=canna...w=1264&bih=967 ;-)
Wol Euler: I guess i's an occupational hazard :)
Wol Euler: after all, one would hardly become a chef if one was bored by food
Qt Core: he has big bones too, but lately i see quite fit chefs, i think thet at some level it become quite ectic and you spend quite a lot energy... then if you want to be a public figure too
Wol Euler nods.
Qt Core: this one for example: https://www.google.it/search?espv=2&...24.RpsT9NfwNmY (Simone Rugiati)
Qt Core: he gives out (in his tv show) recipes that even a human being can make (and find the ingredients in this universe too)
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: very nice, that
Wol Euler: do you know (in this context) Jamie Oliver
Wol Euler: english celebrity chef, also young and fit
Wol Euler: I've eaten quite a few recipes from his books, all "real food from normal ingredients" and very tasty
Qt Core: yes, i was even tempted by a couple of his books
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: I'd recommend trying a few out
Wol Euler: I particularly remember a creamy chickpea soup .. wonderful
--BELL--
Qt Core: for people liking a more rugged look (and favouring poorer ingredients, old traditional recipes and street food we have Chef Rubio: https://www.google.it/search?espv=2&...24.RpsT9NfwNmY
Wol Euler: that was Rugiati again :)
Qt Core: ops https://www.google.it/search?q=chef+...w=1264&bih=967
Wol Euler: tattoos.
Qt Core: not sure about those in a kitchen, but if they are safe to have them IN your body i assume they are safe to get contact with food
Wol Euler: they are *under* the skin after all, as long as he stayed home until they healed ...
Qt Core: when Rubio has its black uniform on and manage a knofe it remind me a lot about Sandokan (portraied by Kabid Bedi)
Qt Core: *knife
Qt Core: https://www.google.it/search?espv=2&...24.bxfD9EJ7IYk
Wol Euler looks
Wol Euler: ah! :)
Qt Core: even if Sandokan is way better (a heroes of my kids years, both in tv and book form)
Qt Core: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandokan (some of the books i've read most times, you know, the one that got consumed...)
Wol Euler: ah :)
Wol Euler: good books repay repeated readings
Qt Core: From wikipedia: Sandokan, profession: pirate ;-)
Wol Euler: :) prince turned pirate, in fact
Wol Euler: doubly special
Qt Core: called pirate from the oppressive colonialists western powers!
Qt Core: *by
--BELL--
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: the premise is intriguing
Wol Euler: given that the literature of *my* childhood was almost exclusively written by the colonialist powers
Qt Core: before i met Pratchett Salgari wrote the funniest page i ever read, where Yanez, a portoguese, best friend and second in command of Sandokan is offered insects in a tavern in India
Qt Core: in the '80 that was still unheard of and those were written in lato 1800 early 1900 too
Wol Euler listens.
Qt Core: the contrast of Yanez (always quite the sarcastic one) and the host that is just offering good healthy food in his opinion
Qt Core: i went in search of that passage a few years ago and while fun it wasn't anymore hilarious as in early teen years
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: oh, I hadn't noticed the time. I must go, I'm working this afternoon
Wol Euler: sorry
Qt Core: ops, me neither
Wol Euler smiles.
Qt Core: have a nice day then
Wol Euler: take care, Qt, enjoy the day
Qt Core: bye
