Korel and Druth joined me
stevenaia Michinaga: greetings
Korel Laloix: Osiyo
stevenaia Michinaga: good to see you, how is married life treating you?
Korel Laloix: Great.. and big news... We are pregnant!.... well, Sama is... smiles
stevenaia Michinaga: wow, excellent!
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: She has been wanting this for so long. So glad things are working out.
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, the fun has only begun
Korel Laloix: So, some big changes coming our way.
Korel Laloix: What you been up to?
stevenaia Michinaga: congratualtions to the both of you
Korel Laloix: When we remodeled this house, we make a nursery room. But now for the crib and the like.. smiles
stevenaia Michinaga: mainly getting my mother settled back home after a fall and rehab
Korel Laloix: Thanks... Sama's mom is just delirious.. calling like three times a day to discuss things... lol
stevenaia Michinaga: lol
Korel Laloix: Oh great for you both then... Ho wis she doing overall?
stevenaia Michinaga: she is good
stevenaia Michinaga: is her mother far enough away to keep her from staying with you
stevenaia Michinaga: or cose enough to be convenient as a baby sitter
Korel Laloix: Hopeuflly the fall did not shake her confidence too much.
stevenaia Michinaga: *close
Korel Laloix: lol.. down in Florida.
stevenaia Michinaga: actually, my mother has nerves of steel,so no hesitation getting back on her feet
Korel Laloix: But I do love Sveta, she is a brilliant woman... and she and Sama are back on good terms now.
Korel Laloix: Good for her.
Korel Laloix: Good for you as well.
stevenaia Michinaga: and my brother and I are close by
stevenaia Michinaga: Iw as there 2 x today
Korel Laloix: I think once she realized that we intended to have kids, she softened to the idea of Sama not being straight quite a bit.
stevenaia Michinaga: but the fall broke her shoulder
Korel Laloix: Good.. sounds like a good arrangement for all.
Korel Laloix: She still doing PT?
stevenaia Michinaga: once it begins to heal
stevenaia Michinaga: funny when what's important changes everything
stevenaia Michinaga: gay , who cares, I'm going to be a grand mother
stevenaia Michinaga: says mom
Korel Laloix: Exactly...
stevenaia Michinaga: people can be so easilly distracted
Korel Laloix: The thing I respected about her parents was that they told me upfront. But did not treat me any differently.
Korel Laloix: That was just one small issue in what Sama and her mom were arguing about though.
Korel Laloix: It does make for some odd family dynamics though, and I understand that.
stevenaia Michinaga: ofcourse
Korel Laloix: Being non-straight is just such a pain in teh ass sometimes... lol
stevenaia Michinaga: although not directly related, when my son moved to CA he hd his one diamond stud ear ring in the "wrong ear"
Korel Laloix: But I think Sama and I will make a great parenting team...
Korel Laloix: Mainly because we are painfully aware of how much we don't know, and are willing to learn.
stevenaia Michinaga: everyone swore he was straight, but how could he not know it was the "gay ear"
Korel Laloix: lol
Korel Laloix: There are so many signs to keep up with these days.
stevenaia Michinaga: so someone told him about it to be sure... he switched the ear ring immediately
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, lol
stevenaia Michinaga: even simple things like public breastfeeding drives people over the edge
Korel Laloix: It is strange when it sets people off and not.
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: And people get so pissed off at silly stuff.
Korel Laloix: But luckily, being and ultra minority, I can claim more offense than others.... lol
stevenaia Michinaga: there is a large Presbyterian church in town in a lawsuit because it disagrees with the national church allowing gay marriages and ministers and wants to separate, but they don;t "own" their church and property, so they can;t take anything with them to separate with
Korel Laloix: Sad when that happens.
Korel Laloix: But it is just a symptom of other bigger issues.
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, and they look like idiots too
Korel Laloix: Not everyone agrees. We did not get "married" and never will.
Korel Laloix: We did a civil union.
Korel Laloix: Better taxes and Sama does not agree with changing how marriage works in our society.
Korel Laloix: I don't care really.
stevenaia Michinaga: interesting
Korel Laloix: The difference in thought is very interesting to me as well.
Korel Laloix: One of the things that made me reconsider the idea of faith.... how religious people could not agree on so much but my atheist professors in university where mental clones of each other... horribly silly group think.
stevenaia Michinaga: what form does marriage exist in your pre-christian clulture
Korel Laloix: Written records are not there of course.. but in the traditions, there are several types.
Korel Laloix: And not necessarily as formal.
Korel Laloix: Arranged between "clans", sometimes personal preference, upon the death of someone's spouse, etc.
Korel Laloix: Now we have formal ceremonies, but almost strictly personal preference now.
stevenaia Michinaga: nice that some traditions continue for the sake of heritage and diversity
Korel Laloix: I think so. we are planning our Tsalagi ceremony for later this year. Sama wants it done before she gets too big.
stevenaia Michinaga: sad when such things are forgotten, what is that like?
stevenaia Michinaga: http://didatinehiulanigida.weebly.com/tsalagi-ceremonies.html
Korel Laloix: Very informal.. Always outside, matriarchal focused, good party afterwards.
Korel Laloix: Let me look.
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: Oh I have seen that one before.
Korel Laloix: https://www.cherokee.org/AboutTheNation/Culture/General/TheOldCherokeeWedding.aspx
Korel Laloix: This is more us.
stevenaia Michinaga: sounds like a party
Korel Laloix: We intend for ours to be.
stevenaia Michinaga: how many will attend?
Korel Laloix: Not as big as our Florida wedding reception. But I think a few hundred. With my aunts being medicine women, it will pull a few more than normal I think.
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Korel Laloix: My aunts will control the guest list really... being the "groom", I won't get much say in it.
stevenaia Michinaga: smiles
Korel Laloix: My aunts and Sama's mother get along perfectly, so I am sure they will work it all out.
stevenaia Michinaga: so it will be early fall?
Korel Laloix: I would like late October at the latest so it is not too cool
Korel Laloix: But having it outside with the turning leaves would be very lovely.
stevenaia Michinaga: hi Druth

--BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: she is still quite sharp at 84
druth Vlodovic: that is good
druth Vlodovic: is she mobile now?
stevenaia Michinaga: other mother in law is starting to loose a sense of time and who people are
stevenaia Michinaga: which is sad
druth Vlodovic: I have met a few people whose mind was less than it was
druth Vlodovic: a difficult thing for everyone
druth Vlodovic: heh, four months to go, did they keep it quiet all this time or am I just out of touch?
stevenaia Michinaga: no, the wedding is in october baby in March
stevenaia Michinaga: first I've heard of the baby
stevenaia Michinaga: I think they just fund out
druth Vlodovic: it is a good time to start talking about it
druth Vlodovic: I imagine they had hints :P
stevenaia Michinaga: but this is theur second wedding, a cherokee ceramony
druth Vlodovic: oh?
stevenaia Michinaga: they already had their civil union
druth Vlodovic: is sama cherokee?
stevenaia Michinaga: there will be some links in the log that she gave me earlier
stevenaia Michinaga: noKorel
stevenaia Michinaga: is
druth Vlodovic: I wonder what a cherokee ceremony consists of
stevenaia Michinaga: a party
stevenaia Michinaga: https://www.cherokee.org/AboutTheNation/Culture/General/TheOldCherokeeWedding.aspx
stevenaia Michinaga: as it should be
druth Vlodovic: nifty
druth Vlodovic: didn't know any of the native nations got to be licensed for civil ceremonies under their own law
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, I remember going to a reservation in Wisconsin for a concert, the ony law was theirs and federal autherities
stevenaia Michinaga: no local
druth Vlodovic: I should have known actually, upnorth they have their own police forces and they have agreements with the RCMP, OPP etc for crossing borders
stevenaia Michinaga: so whatever isn;t federal is tribal
stevenaia Michinaga: nice that their traditions continue
--BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: I'm going to head out, I'm off to NYC for the day tomorrow with friends, take care Durth
