Qt Core: today and yesterday night i failed at avoing any sight of the Expo pavillion on tv/web (to not spoil my visits) but as i saw them i could not notice that it is the nearest thing to SL i've ever saw in RL

Wol Euler: actually no numbers, come to think of it, but 11 markings plus the date

Bleu Oleander: use my cell phone more than a watch for time these days :)
Wol Euler: that seems much less convenient to me
Wol Euler: my phone is always in my pocket, inaccessible while sitting, and has to be prodded into life
Bleu Oleander: I'm not a big time watcher so works for me when I need to know the time :)
Qt Core: me too, but as i finally (ok, a pair years ago) i found a cheap one with all the 12 numbers i sometimes wear it
Qt Core: and lately i'm wondering how much time i can't see the date as one of the three hands is over it ?
Qt Core: it depends on how many hands the watch has (two or three) and their size, obviously

Qt Core: i did a quick estimate and it said about 20% of the time! but if feels too much even if it is not so far from how many times i notice it when watching the time

Wol Euler: that seems too high to me, unless either the date is tiny or the hands are broad
Wol Euler: I wonder schools teach estimation these days? (thinking of what I just did)
Qt Core: still too much (even if they are broad in my watch)
Qt Core: don't think (and never had it explained to me at school)
Wol Euler: I'm pretty sure that we had it "unofficially" because the teacher was bored that afternoon
Wol Euler: physics class
Wol Euler: the concept of getting a fast answer that is "good enough"
Wol Euler: rather than a slower but more accurate one
Wol Euler: if you don't need accuracy, fast and sloppy is good enough
Qt Core: and err on the wide side if you need to know if something will resist/support you ;-)
Wol Euler: right
Wol Euler: it's a kind of mental self-defense skill and is worth learning for that reason alone
