The Guardian for this meeting was Bruce Mowbray. The comments are by Bruce Mowbray.
Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Zon.
Zon Kwan: hi bruce
Zon Kwan: how are you
Bruce Mowbray: I'm good, thanks... and you?
Zon Kwan: fine thanks
Zon Kwan: Hi, Elan
ElanVitalo Resident: Hello, Zon and Brucie.
Zon Kwan: hi Catrina
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Cat.
ElanVitalo Resident: Hi, Cat.
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Bruce, Elan and Zon :)
Bruce Mowbray: Are any of you versed in Jungian psychology? I think I'm having anima issues
Zon Kwan: that means ?
Catrinamonblue Resident: nope :)
Zon Kwan: male-female balance?
Bruce Mowbray: Well in my case, it means that I may be projecting my feminine side unto other people -- and doing it unconsciously. But recently it's come back to hit me in the face like a boomerang.
Zon Kwan: can you give an example?
Catrinamonblue Resident: listens
Bruce Mowbray: well, yes I believe I can.
--BELL—
Bruce Mowbray: probably the thing that I resented the most about my mother was her deceitful manipulation of men...
Bruce Mowbray: and I suspect that this “deceitful” quality dominates my anima..
Bruce Mowbray: my feminine side, if you will.
Bruce Mowbray: And recently a woman in my life - as has happened in virtually every significant relationship with any woman throughout my life -- has been quite deceitful with me.
Bruce Mowbray: and I'm thinking:
Bruce Mowbray: I set myself up for this by projecting my anima onto her...
Zon Kwan: la donna mobile...
Bruce Mowbray: So, sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy situation, maybe.
Bruce Mowbray: is this making any sense?
ElanVitalo Resident listens intently.
Zon Kwan: how did you set this?
Catrinamonblue Resident: in my experience with deceitful people, and I have had a few in my life, it seems to me to be more about them hiding behind self built walls
Bruce Mowbray: yes, Cat... But in my case, the "wall" may be my own persona...
Zon Kwan: someone has said that we project all to others as mirrors - not only anima
Bruce Mowbray: Maybe I'm just too Jungian with all of this
Catrinamonblue Resident: are you able to give a specific example of how you discovered this deceit?
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, excellent point Zon.
Bruce Mowbray: that's exactly what I'm talking about.
Bruce Mowbray: I discovered what I’m calling ‘deceipt’ when she did not make two monthly payments on a loan that I had given her several months ago...
Bruce Mowbray: and when I requested information about it in a very polite and respectful way,
Bruce Mowbray: she totally ignored my request...
Catrinamonblue Resident: ah ok...
Bruce Mowbray: In effect, she took my money with no warning and no notice and no explanation.
Bruce Mowbray: but I think there are deeper implications that have to do with my responsibility in this matter.
Catrinamonblue Resident: We do tend to trust people and they sometimes do let us down....
Zon Kwan: hi Lila
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Lila
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Lila.
Catrinamonblue Resident: sits on hands and listens to Bruce :)
Zon Kwan: not sure if that is anima projection
Zon Kwan: perhaps just a lesson
Bruce Mowbray: anyway, I got a flash of insight from a dream last night . . . and I've been obsessed with it all day because I think it might be showing me how I set up the whole drama myself.
Lila Sideways: hello all
Zon Kwan: hm
Bruce Mowbray: The problem, Zon, is that the "lesson" keeps happening in almost every close relationship that I have had with women . . . throughout my entire life.
Zon Kwan: it takes two to tango
Bruce Mowbray: and I still apparently have not learned the “lesson.”
Bruce Mowbray: I think I'm setting myself up.
Qt Core: Hi all!
Bruce Mowbray: I think I'm projecting what I felt was my mother's deceit onto the women in my life.... and that's not fair to them or to me... I just want to be more aware of what I'm doing.
Zon Kwan: yes, perhaps to make you remember next time
Zon Kwan: hi Qt
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Qt.
Catrinamonblue Resident: you’re very trusting Bruce.... It's not necessarily a bad thing but it does leave you open to being hurt.......
Bruce Mowbray: I am way TOO trusting. Naïve!
Bruce Mowbray: but that may be a defensive maneuver...
Bruce Mowbray: a way to deny the realities in relationships.
Bruce Mowbray: I'm seeing my trust as a form of unconsciousness and self-deception.
Catrinamonblue Resident: or an inability to say ‘n’o when asked for help?
Bruce Mowbray: all I can say ‘no’ all right...
Bruce Mowbray: I don't think it's a problem of boundaries or codependency.
Catrinamonblue Resident: I have a friend who can not say no and has lost lots of money as a result
Bruce Mowbray: I used to think that was my problem too, Cat, but I no longer feel that way.
Catrinamonblue Resident: ok :) thought to ask :)
Zon Kwan: waves
Bruce Mowbray: thanks; you make a very good point.
Bruce Mowbray: I'm being way too heavy today. Let's change the subject.
Bruce Mowbray: I don't want to bring everyone down or to chase them away.
ElanVitalo Resident continues to listen.
Catrinamonblue Resident: It's hard when someone we trust lets us down. I have had a similar experience a few years back and I still think about it from time to time
Catrinamonblue Resident: What was it about me that they found they could cause so much hurt.....
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, excellent question -- and one that I've been asking myself almost obsessively all day today.
Bruce Mowbray: Really trying to work through this whole thing about projection... ever since my dream last night.
Bruce Mowbray: I think there's something buried underneath that that I really need to look at.
--BELL—
Bruce Mowbray: I have this crazy feeling that I should be protecting this woman somehow . . . but since she's the one who is taking advantage of me, I'm struggling to figure out why...
Catrinamonblue Resident: I do understand, Bruce, I was in a similar position though different. I too felt I had to protect the other person.
Bruce Mowbray: . . . and that's how I came up with the idea of the anima projection.... maybe I'm actually trying to take care of MYSELF by taking care of her... and in the process actually deceiving myself (!) AND her!
Bruce Mowbray: I don't know. It needs work.
Catrinamonblue Resident: I feel now that I have let go and whatever happens now is a result of this person’s actions and not my fault......
Bruce Mowbray: that sounds like a good way to approach it, Cat.
Bruce Mowbray: As the Buddhists say, "Let go or be dragged."
Catrinamonblue Resident: it has not been an easy journey
Bruce Mowbray: nods.
Catrinamonblue Resident: nods
Bruce Mowbray: nods.
Bruce Mowbray: I really do not want to blame anyone
Bruce Mowbray: ... including myself . . .
Bruce Mowbray: I simply want to have clarity about the dynamics of the relationship... because this has happened over and over and over in my life.
Bruce Mowbray: The patterns is undeniable.
Bruce Mowbray: and when the other person refuses to communicate in any way, that causes me to be introspective . . . I seem to be able to have no dialogue except with myself – about this particular incident, I mean.
Catrinamonblue Resident: oh Bruce that is so very similar to what I had to deal with, no communication from the other person.... that's hard to understand
Bruce Mowbray: Yes!
Bruce Mowbray: and part of the problem for me is that this individual makes several posts on Facebook everyday . . . and seems to be very active socially. I feel she’s intentionally ostracized me...
Catrinamonblue Resident: it took me some time to understand that the lack of communication was a way for the other person to protect himself from acknowledging his actions were wrong....
Bruce Mowbray: I do not feel rejection from her, though. I feel as if I do not even exist in her eyes.
Bruce Mowbray: Maybe that's what's going on in my case also.
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes exactly, I had the same
Catrinamonblue Resident: nods, yes
Bruce Mowbray: When there are problems in relationships, I usually try to figure out how I'm responsible for them....
Bruce Mowbray: But didn't someone just say it takes two to tango?
Bruce Mowbray: nevertheless, I'm going to explore this anima projection theory... It could explain a lot.
Catrinamonblue Resident: smiles.... me too. I'm very open to acknowledging my own part in a disagreement.
Catrinamonblue Resident: It's hard when the other person is not able to take responsibility for their part
Bruce Mowbray: I’m afraid this is more than a disagreement in my case.
Catrinamonblue Resident: in mine as wel,l Bruce....
Bruce Mowbray: This is a violation of a written contract that involves a big loan of money... and her not paying what she agreed to pay, as well as her refusing to explain anything...
Bruce Mowbray: So I'm really in the dark...
Bruce Mowbray: and the only thing I feel I can turn to is my own sense of how I might be setting myself up for these things.
Bruce Mowbray: I guess that's why I'm so obsessed with it right now.
Catrinamonblue Resident: :) I do understand
Bruce Mowbray: Well then, how are things in Milano, Qt?
Bruce Mowbray: Looks like I scared another one away.
Bruce Mowbray: oh here he is, welcome back!
Catrinamonblue Resident: wb QT :)
Qt Core: ty
--BELL—
Bruce Mowbray: Have you been back to the Expo, Qt?
Qt Core: not yet, was going today but then a sick sister happened, i'll try Monday (as I’m at the start of a 4 day weekend)
Bruce Mowbray: Ahhh!
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Bruce Mowbray: Sorry to hear about your sister...
Bruce Mowbray: I found your photographs of the Expo simply fascinating.
Bruce Mowbray: just walking through the architecture would be an amazing experience all by itself.
Qt Core: as we are having many up and downs in weather i hope to go there on a shiny day following a thunderstorm one
Bruce Mowbray: I wish you luck with that.
Bruce Mowbray: We had a tornado in Ohio this week..
Qt Core: no, that would be a little too much for just a few nice pics ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: in fact, it touched ground only two blocks away from where the woman I have been talking about works.. just east of Dayton, Ohio, in a town called Beavercreek.
Catrinamonblue Resident: we just had thunderstorms roll through here today but nothing bad
Bruce Mowbray: I wonder if news about the flooding in Texas has spread to Europe.
Qt Core: just a few lines here and there
Bruce Mowbray: apparently hundreds of homes have been swept away as well as many people killed... what a shame.
Bruce Mowbray: several years of drought -- and now so much flooding.
Qt Core: News here reported more about the hot wave in India
Bruce Mowbray: oh yes, I have seen reports of that.
Bruce Mowbray: apparently, in some areas in southeast India the temperature is as high as 122°F.
Bruce Mowbray: that would do me in for sure!
Catrinamonblue Resident: oh wow :(
Bruce Mowbray: they are waiting for the monsoon season... to cool things off.
Bruce Mowbray: I've heard reports that the monsoons could begin any day now.
Catrinamonblue Resident: I'm sorry guys, I have to go now.... bf is starting food and I need to go help :)
Qt Core: an Italian journalist living there (in a somewhat colder region, only 118 f... said that the issue is that the temps don't go down in the night and stay at 104
Bruce Mowbray: okay, Cat. have a good rest of the weekend.
Qt Core: bye Cat
Catrinamonblue Resident: Thanks for the chat :) you too Bruce
ElanVitalo Resident: bye, Cat.
Bruce Mowbray: I usually think about India as being hot, dry, and overly crowded... and dusty.
Bruce Mowbray: I'm sure that my image of India's climate has been formed by movies, though....
Bruce Mowbray: Does your journalist friend have to stay there, or can he move on to a cooler locale?
Qt Core: in my ideas there are the Himalayas too
Bruce Mowbray: yes, up in the north!
Qt Core: not a friend, someone talking at the radio
Bruce Mowbray: somehow I think of the Himalayas as being in a whole different country, like Nepal or Tibet.
Bruce Mowbray: Okay, so a journalist that you heard on the radio.... talking about the heat.
Qt Core: those are on the northern side, like Italy and France/Switzerland with the Alps
Bruce Mowbray: yes very similar to Italy's geography.
Bruce Mowbray: I love the Dolomites!
Qt Core: in India i "see" jungle too, but that is from Salgari books ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: nods, Kipling too.
Bruce Mowbray: the more I think about it, the more I'm seeing India as a very diverse nation geographically.
Qt Core: Kipling was/lived there Salgari is an Italian writer that wrote many adventures in India/Malaysia and never moved from Italy ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: Quite an imagination that fellow had, then!
Qt Core: just shocked by reading that India is (area-wise) a third of USA...
--BELL--
Qt Core: (i thought the opposite)
Bruce Mowbray: yes, that's why I think about it as crowded, maybe.
Qt Core: well, when you have your area to compare... but if you think NYC
Bruce Mowbray: also, I have a strong image of city slums... and I think that came from movies, too.
Bruce Mowbray: yes, I'll be returning to New York City this fall, actually.
Bruce Mowbray: it will be my 14th stay in the youth hostel there.
Bruce Mowbray: I want to show one of the guys who works here at the farm around the big city.
Bruce Mowbray: He's a New York Yankees baseball fan, too, so we’ll get up to the Bronx to see them play a game, for sure.
Bruce Mowbray: They'll be playing the Boston Red Sox when we are there.
Bruce Mowbray: I'm also looking forward to seeing the new Freedom Tower --- the last time I saw I,t it was little more than a foundation.
Qt Core: :-) i'd like to see NYC, but no more than every other major world one, but i would have liked to be there today and maybe tomorrow for this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattanhenge
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I have seen that!
Bruce Mowbray: I used to go to New York twice a year -- the last week in May and the last week in September...
Bruce Mowbray: It's quite an amazing site, actually!
Bruce Mowbray: I'd forgotten that this was the week for that.
Bruce Mowbray: Manhattan Solstice!
Qt Core: How many people are run over by cars during that ? ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: The picture on this webpage was taken on 42nd St. looking West
Qt Core: i have to remember this if i ever go there
Bruce Mowbray: the eastern end of 42nd St. is the United Nations, and the West End of 42nd St. is the aircraft carrier Intrepid.
Bruce Mowbray: I strongly advise you to stay at the Hosteling International youth hostel on 103rd St. and Amsterdam Avenue.
Bruce Mowbray: It's only one block from the Broadway subway, and only three blocks from Central Park.
Qt Core: I'll probably be in the USA in 2017, but that will be in August, if i remember right when the eclipse will be
Bruce Mowbray: excellent location. very easy to get around. clean, friendly, and relatively inexpensive.
Qt Core: if we get an organized tour i doubt it will be in hostels
Bruce Mowbray: The webpage says that July solstice will be on the 12th and 13th
Bruce Mowbray: Of course, not all of New York is laid out in a north-south grid.
Bruce Mowbray: One of my favorite things to do in any city is to get lost....
Qt Core: I’m talking of the total eclipse on Aug 21 2017
Bruce Mowbray: I did that in Venice, Paris, Rome, and Edinburgh... intentionally!
Bruce Mowbray: Oh yes, the total eclipse of the sun!
Qt Core: and now one could even do it with the safe net of a gos smartphone ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: I would imagine that several websites will also cover the eclipse with live cameras.
Bruce Mowbray: do you know where it is predicted to be total, Qt?
Qt Core: http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEgoogl...21Tgoogle.htmlinside the blue lines, max on the red line
Bruce Mowbray: Thank you!
Bruce Mowbray: that's only about 100 miles away from where I live!
Bruce Mowbray: (south of where I live...)
Bruce Mowbray: in August 2017.
Qt Core: So you would surely have a partial but very dark one without moving
Bruce Mowbray: nods.
Bruce Mowbray: looks to me like a good reason for a road trip!
Bruce Mowbray: have a good rest of the weekend, Qt and Elan.
Bruce Mowbray: I do hope your sister is feeling better soon.
--BELL—
Bruce Mowbray: Bye for now.
Qt Core: yes, almost recovered by now
Qt Core: ty
Bruce Mowbray: Good to her that.
Bruce Mowbray: Stay well!
ElanVitalo Resident: Bye everyone.
Qt Core: I’ll try, bye and have fun
