Bleu Oleander: one of my favorite physics books is the lightness of being
stevenaia Michinaga: it;s in our llibrary somewhere

Bleu Oleander: a physics approach to finding meaning in a seemingly random world
stevenaia Michinaga: the nature of humanity to find patterns
    Bleu Oleander: yes
stevenaia Michinaga: there was a recent TED talk about that
    Bleu Oleander: by who?
stevenaia Michinaga: perhaps recent only in that I watched it recently
    Bleu Oleander: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: let me look through my history
stevenaia Michinaga: hmmm, I sent it to my son, he is into conspiracies and thought he may relate :)
Bleu Oleander: what was the conspiracy?
stevenaia Michinaga: part of what he was saying with patterns was we are wired to see things that may not be there
Bleu Oleander: because a pattern suggests something?
stevenaia Michinaga: saying there are patterns in the past that we recognize that can save us from death, for instance or may be just the wind blowing through grass and not be a preditor, so for survival, we have expectation about the patterns around us
    Bleu Oleander: ah ok yes
Bleu Oleander: better safe then sorry
stevenaia Michinaga: nods, unless it jsut makes you paranoid and nothing is there
Bleu Oleander: right, not good if taken too far
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://www.ted.com/talks/michael_she...self_deception
