The Guardian for this meeting was Calvino Rabeni. The comments are by Calvino Rabeni.
oO0Oo Resident: Hiya Cal !
Calvino Rabeni: Good evening oO0Oo :)
Calvino Rabeni: How flows life
Calvino Rabeni: 's river today?
oO0Oo Resident smiles.. I enjoy your sense of humour Cal.
Calvino Rabeni: :) thanks
Calvino Rabeni: A sense of humor is a very strong "survival" tool
Brigit Ranger: hello there
Calvino Rabeni: Hi Brigit !
oO0Oo Resident: Hi Brigit.. Welcome
Brigit Ranger: thought i would pop by and see what P&B is abll about
Brigit Ranger: thank you
--BELL--
Calvino Rabeni: Have you stopped by here before? I have a deja vu about that but might not remember
Brigit Ranger: no, this is my first time here
Calvino Rabeni: Oh :)
Brigit Ranger: i was curious about the theater. i saw that it was highlighted on the Sl home page and wanted to check it out
Calvino Rabeni: we have a wiki at http://wiki.playasbeing.org
Calvino Rabeni: and one thing you should know is, the chat here is auto-blogged onto that web site
Calvino Rabeni: well actually after a little edit
Calvino Rabeni: is it ok with you if your comments here wind up over there ?
Brigit Ranger: uhhh
Brigit Ranger: lol
Brigit Ranger: i suppose so
Calvino Rabeni: Well if it's not, I can take them out, but yeah, this is a pretty public discussion during meetings
Calvino Rabeni: they happen 4 times a day at 1 and 7 am and pm
Brigit Ranger: no that's fine. i don't plan on saying anyting crazy
Calvino Rabeni: heh mmhmm
Brigit Ranger: i just wanted to know if the Moc theater was private or do you have many types of concerts there?
Calvino Rabeni: some people come to talk .. some just like to hang out
Calvino Rabeni: oh the Moc theater ... hmm sort of private, it's like an art display space
Calvino Rabeni: there are occasional projects called "Art of Being"
Calvino Rabeni: which have had different definitions
Calvino Rabeni: that the group does
Calvino Rabeni: and recently they included performance
Brigit Ranger: oh okay then
Calvino Rabeni: part of that was people who wanted to learn the technical skills
Calvino Rabeni: of doing performance art in Second Life
Brigit Ranger: oh
Brigit Ranger: so if someone wanted to rent the space, the probably couldn't
Calvino Rabeni: Some of them ended up on youtube ... is that were you saw it?
Calvino Rabeni: oh well hmmm
Calvino Rabeni: there's a small political issue I think
Brigit Ranger: no, i have not see any of the performances
Brigit Ranger: oh okay
Brigit Ranger: because you are non-profit
Calvino Rabeni: the political issue is that the sim is supported by non-profit, yes that's right
Brigit Ranger: got it
Calvino Rabeni: so it needs to avoid being "political"
Calvino Rabeni: you got it :)
Brigit Ranger: so this is a perfmance art group then?
Calvino Rabeni: well actually it's more like a kind of philosophy or dialog group ...
Calvino Rabeni: maybe for some, with a spiritual or contemplative flavor
Calvino Rabeni: but there are a lot of creative members
Calvino Rabeni: and they like to get together and do different kinds of projects, art included
Brigit Ranger: is this a RL organization?
Calvino Rabeni: Hmm, ..
Calvino Rabeni: most of the activities have been in Second Life, but there have been some RL meetings too
Brigit Ranger: oh okay
Brigit Ranger: and the builder of this theater are they a part of the organization as well?
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, they are part of it ... on the board
Calvino Rabeni: the place was mainly built by Storm Nordwind
Calvino Rabeni: but members have personal areas here
Calvino Rabeni: that each of them built
Brigit Ranger: ohhh ok
Calvino Rabeni: you're welcome to wander around and look
Calvino Rabeni: the Museum of Sacred Art has an academic tie-in
Brigit Ranger: well thank you
Calvino Rabeni: You're welcome, good to meet you Brigit
Brigit Ranger: i really like the theater
Brigit Ranger: same here
Brigit Ranger: thank you for taking time out to answer my questions
Calvino Rabeni: nods .. you're welcome!
Brigit Ranger: take care
Calvino Rabeni: You too, Bye
--BELL--
Calvino Rabeni: Hi Paradise
Paradise Tennant: hiya cal wow quiet nite :))
Calvino Rabeni: You just missed a visitor, who was interested in the Molecule theater
Calvino Rabeni: I didn't have a quick link to any of Bleu's videos on Youtube
Calvino Rabeni: How are you ths evening?
Paradise Tennant: http://uwainsl.blogspot.com/2011/08/machinimuwa-iv-bleu-oleaders-bird-song.html
Calvino Rabeni: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUX2zH2AH90
Paradise Tennant: smiles a little sleepy .. dog has not been well again and I have been up a lot at night
Paradise Tennant: amazing how quiet everything is :))
Calvino Rabeni: Is dog getting on?
Calvino Rabeni: Yes it is
Paradise Tennant: 14
Calvino Rabeni: ah yes
Calvino Rabeni: still can learn new tricks?
Paradise Tennant: yes indeed ;)))
Paradise Tennant: been engrossed in redoing my garden
Paradise Tennant: had fun with it .. spring has arrived ;)
Paradise Tennant: how are you
Calvino Rabeni: Spring not yet, but the last few days were sunny and it was great to get out and exercise
Paradise Tennant: hiya sam
Calvino Rabeni: Oops, I forgot that oO0O0 might come back to that spot:)
Calvino Rabeni: Crashed?
Paradise Tennant: here is like spring .. almost like jacket weather today
oO0Oo Resident: Yes.. crashed.. Sorry if I landed on someone :) Hiya Paradise :)
Calvino Rabeni: I have a new exercise strategy ... found a cafe on the very top of a hill and plotted a nice quiet traffic-free route up there by google maps
Paradise Tennant: lol kind of like my tea house trekking idea ;) know you can make if there is a latte at the end :)
Calvino Rabeni: Yes indeed
Calvino Rabeni: The idea is familiar :)
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, trekking across the country from latte to latte
Paradise Tennant: decided to dig out my bike trainer :) and set it up in the living room :) not great decor but very handy :)
Calvino Rabeni: Good view?
Paradise Tennant: yes have nice views :)
Paradise Tennant: best from my bedroom can see the city and the lake .. nice to drink coffee and watch the city wake up in the morning
Calvino Rabeni: Before the sun....
Paradise Tennant: yes dawn is always special :)
Calvino Rabeni: Especially for me, it's a rare sight :)
Paradise Tennant: smiles with a geriatic dog .. the majority of my days start before dawn :)
Paradise Tennant: hiya boxy :)))
oO0Oo Resident: Hiya Alfred :)
Calvino Rabeni: Boxter :)
Alfred Kelberry: hi :)
Alfred Kelberry: para girl :)
Alfred Kelberry: rare visitor cal :)
Calvino Rabeni: Moi?
Alfred Kelberry: i only see you on wok meetings :)
Calvino Rabeni: Yeah, rarer than used to be ... yes, but I'm always here at this particular time :)
--BELL--
Alfred Kelberry: ah, which is not the hour i usually attend
Calvino Rabeni: nods
Paradise Tennant: did you have a good day boxy :)
Alfred Kelberry: para :)
Calvino Rabeni: a visit under unsual circumstances
Alfred Kelberry: yes, i have. how about you and einstein? :)
Alfred Kelberry: he's probably napping in his basket :)
Paradise Tennant: we had a good day .. dog soup on the stove .. roast in the oven .. clean house :) went out for a really lovely dinner on friday with all my nieces and nephews fun allr round
Alfred Kelberry: cal, do you present any topic this session?
Paradise Tennant: listens
Calvino Rabeni: I haven't yet ... any nominations? Ask me and you might get something silly :)
Alfred Kelberry: sounds like a wonderful sunday, para :)
Paradise Tennant: boxy and I went to a mca lecture yesterday
Alfred Kelberry: oh yes
Calvino Rabeni: mca?
Paradise Tennant: was on how we villianize those who are strange to us
Paradise Tennant: mica
Alfred Kelberry: the bottom line: there are no aliens :)
Paradise Tennant: yes there are
Paradise Tennant: have to be
Calvino Rabeni: um reminds me of nvc?
Paradise Tennant: absolutely sure of it :)
Alfred Kelberry: para, the lecture concluded otherwise :)
Calvino Rabeni: I heard a saying pertaining to that
Calvino Rabeni: about noticing unseemly things in others
Calvino Rabeni: "You spot it, you got it" (A contemporary idiom for the Biblical proverb about seeing the log in one's own eye?)
Paradise Tennant: smiles
Calvino Rabeni: Jung in a nutshell
Paradise Tennant: thanks sam
Paradise Tennant: how could there not be aliens
Paradise Tennant: we live in a vast universe has to be other life :) just not been introduced yet :)
Calvino Rabeni: mmm yes, we just haven't had a "proper introduction" yet!
Alfred Kelberry: i found it interesting that aliens were first seen as evil only in the 20th century coutsey of h. g. wells
Calvino Rabeni: though there were devils before that, Boxy
Paradise Tennant: hope we don't meet any that want to eat us
Calvino Rabeni: It sort of depends, it's a long way to go for a snack!
Alfred Kelberry: they most likely will, para
Calvino Rabeni: Plus, depending on whether the theory of panspermia holds or not, they might get a bad case of indigestion from us
oO0Oo Resident: Perhaps of interest: http://is.gd/D1wXG5
Alfred Kelberry: sam, oh... march 31 - that's a big of a long notice :)
oO0Oo Resident: ?
Alfred Kelberry: good talk though
oO0Oo Resident: oh yes
oO0Oo Resident: well.. there 'tis, as they say
Alfred Kelberry: but i will sure forget about it before march 31 :)
Alfred Kelberry: actually, if advancement of our civilization is any indicator, they may be highly humane and tolerant
Paradise Tennant: smiles
--BELL--
Paradise Tennant: love optimism just a general good thing
oO0Oo Resident laughs at Para's recursive optimism
Paradise Tennant: now I have to look up recursive lol
Calvino Rabeni: it means to curse twice?
Alfred Kelberry: para is beaming happiness with her appearance :)
oO0Oo Resident: cyclically self referencing
Paradise Tennant: Recursion
Alfred Kelberry: google has a nice pun on recursion
Paradise Tennant: try to .. so much easier to be happy
Paradise Tennant: sad and mad are just so much work
Calvino Rabeni: Oh, then it seems to stand to reason ... if virtue is its own reward, and optimism is a virtue, then it would be a self-reinforcing quality
Paradise Tennant: smiles like the "reward of patience is patience" thomas beckett :))
oO0Oo Resident: I don't think most people want to be unhappy.. Generally speaking I think everyone wants to be happy.
Calvino Rabeni: ooh ... sad and mad ... I was just viewing a piece of literature on that very topic :)
Calvino Rabeni: "Monsterpiece Theater"
Calvino Rabeni: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksL_7WrhWOc
Paradise Tennant: not sure ..sometimes I think our egos propel us to misery
oO0Oo Resident: maybe that is an argument for the ego not being our true nature Para
Calvino Rabeni: Who invented egos, I wonder?
Calvino Rabeni: Was it Sigmund Freud?
Paradise Tennant: hmm :) not sure :)
Calvino Rabeni: Good eve, Stevenaia !
Alfred Kelberry: stev :)
oO0Oo Resident: Hi Steve
stevenaia Michinaga: waves
Paradise Tennant: hiya stev :))
Alfred Kelberry: nordic queen has arrived in her furistic coat :)
oO0Oo Resident: Futuristic Heuristic (has a nice ring to it)
stevenaia Michinaga: still cold here
Alfred Kelberry: how cold?
stevenaia Michinaga: 24°F
Paradise Tennant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heuristic
Paradise Tennant: we had spring weather today
Alfred Kelberry: ah, cold indeed
Alfred Kelberry: oh yes, para. it was lovely. tea on a porch :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I understand even Rome got snow
oO0Oo Resident: Ego.. something blown in on the prevailing weather... http://is.gd/H6A9PY
Calvino Rabeni: That must have seemed wondrous when it happened
stevenaia Michinaga: (unless you are driving in Rome
Calvino Rabeni: A good excuse to stop on the road and look up
stevenaia Michinaga: does anyone know who won the superbowl?
Calvino Rabeni: hmm, google might
Paradise Tennant: giants
stevenaia Michinaga: lol
stevenaia Michinaga: thanks, I almost thought it was the Mets
Paradise Tennant: did not watch but heard the banter .. walking the dog
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Paradise Tennant: http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/5/2774191/super-bowl-2012-winner-the-new-york-giants-beat-the-new-england
Calvino Rabeni: I heard there were some really good sales in craft stores today too
oO0Oo Resident imagines pausing in Rome at night, glancing up, per chance to glimpse asteroid #17031
Paradise Tennant: smiles :))) piet's bit of the universe :))
oO0Oo Resident: :)
Calvino Rabeni: Is that asteroid notorious?
--BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: more infamous
oO0Oo Resident: http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=17031+Piethut
stevenaia Michinaga: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/17031_Piethut
Calvino Rabeni: Aha .. thanks!
Calvino Rabeni: Those are the rowdy asteroids that might pay us too close a visit, it seems
stevenaia Michinaga: if they do, Pema will move it
Paradise Tennant: sometimes wonder if we are not nature's response to asteroids ..clever monkey who eventually will be able to deflect and protect
Calvino Rabeni: A kind of looping around ... if it's true that asteroids or comets brought the oceans and possibly even the seeds of life
oO0Oo Resident: http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2791+Paradise
stevenaia Michinaga: smiles, no stevenaia, must have already crashed and burned
oO0Oo Resident: what remains after burning up?
stevenaia Michinaga: cooler heads will always prevail
Paradise Tennant: quite like the idea of being made of a little bit of star dust
stevenaia Michinaga: I think it's more than a little (all of me), unless you are speaking in relative terms to all the stardust that exists
Calvino Rabeni: The connections seem quite surprising ... like the idea of the role of comets as a mechanism for how life may be dispersed galactically
Calvino Rabeni: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/05/080502092145.htm
Calvino Rabeni: So it wasn't the stork that brought me, it was a comet :)
oO0Oo Resident: I liked when Margaret Turnbull speculated about the possibility that stars might be conscious in a talk I watched recently.
oO0Oo Resident: A save for later one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhCqTbqCqx0
Calvino Rabeni: Thanks
--BELL--
Calvino Rabeni: The stars could be said to be communicating via their production of intelligent life
Calvino Rabeni: in that case we're not just made of stardust, but the voices of stars
stevenaia Michinaga: vibrations, probably communicate on many levels, heard a great Jazz geoup on Saturday night, gave me a new unterstadning of vibrations and communications
Calvino Rabeni: Hanging out in that dive, I hope?
stevenaia Michinaga: ofcourse, listening to a "Slapaphone"
Paradise Tennant: ooooo hears the echo of the voices of stars in her heart beat
oO0Oo Resident notes a glimmering and sparkling all around
stevenaia Michinaga: http://www.lafayettebarjazz.com/jazzin.htm
stevenaia Michinaga: defines dive
Calvino Rabeni: I love small jazz clubs, about the size of a small cafe. It would be great if every city had lots of them.
Calvino Rabeni: This one has about 8 tables
Calvino Rabeni: http://www.ballardjamhouse.com/about.html
Calvino Rabeni: I suppose it's private way of civic service
Calvino Rabeni: Fostering hangouts and creative centers
Alfred Kelberry: yes, cal!
Alfred Kelberry: i enjoy those too. cozy, informal setting.
oO0Oo Resident: Slapaphone jam: http://is.gd/ghPn4O
stevenaia Michinaga: they are like this place, the vibrations of conversations here (even w/o sound) resonate
CAlfred Kelberry: not an asu student by chance? :)
alvino Rabeni: nothing like it .. front row seats, you might see the diva's dental work
Calvino Rabeni: but more than that palpably feel the vibrational field around them
Calvino Rabeni: "Club owner Suzanne Weghorst, a virtual reality researcher at the University of Washington, was motivated to open Egan's by the lack of appropriate places for young jazz musicians to play and to learn from more experienced artists."
Alfred Kelberry: sam, how did you find the xenophobia page?
oO0Oo Resident: I watch the site from time to time for interesting things Boxy. I think originally perhaps learned about through Bleu, but not sure.
Alfred Kelberry: :)
--BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: the was who I heard... http://www.myspace.com/kahlilkwamebellandthegift/music/songs/unity-a-call-for-peace-19928215
Paradise Tennant: smiles sleepily and sneak off to give the pup one last walk .. before dreamland :))
stevenaia Michinaga: perhaps the stardust is what gives us Chi
stevenaia Michinaga: Night Paradise
oO0Oo Resident: Night Paradise :)
Paradise Tennant: thank you for the company and the conversation namaste :))
Calvino Rabeni: Good night
stevenaia Michinaga: is there such a thing as one last walk?
Calvino Rabeni: Orbit well!
stevenaia Michinaga: brb
Alfred Kelberry: wuff!
oO0Oo Resident: :)
Calvino Rabeni: what is it? What do you hear, Boxy?
Alfred Kelberry: just a joyful bark for no reason :)
Alfred Kelberry: sorry :)
Calvino Rabeni: Wuff!
oO0Oo Resident: :)))
stevenaia Michinaga: night all
Calvino Rabeni: Good night Stev
Alfred Kelberry: furtastic stev :)
oO0Oo Resident: Night Stevnaia :)
Calvino Rabeni 's eyes are starting to droop too :)
Calvino Rabeni: Woof and good night oO0Oo and Boxy
oO0Oo Resident: Night Cal :)
Calvino Rabeni: Bye
oO0Oo Resident: I'll be off as well. But will leave a poem on the way. :)
oO0Oo Resident: All the best Boxy :)
oO0Oo Resident:
. いろはにほへと Even the blossoming flowers
ちりぬるを Will eventually scatter
わかよたれそ Who in our world
つねならむ Is unchanging?
うゐのおくやま The deep mountains of vanity--
けふこえて We cross them today
あさきゆめみし And we shall not see superficial dreams
ゑひもせす Nor be deluded.
Although its scent still lingers on the form of a flower has scattered away
For whom will the glory of this world remain unchanged?
Arriving today at the yonder side of the deep mountains of evanescent existence
We shall never allow ourselves to drift away intoxicated,
in the world of shallow dreams.
