The Guardian for this meeting was Storm Nordwind. The comments are by Storm Nordwind. The title of this session, "A dim future", is deliberately ambiguous, meaning at different times (i) how difficult it is to see into the future, and (ii) what one does see one might not like!
Caring.
Alfred Kelberry: the storm :)
Storm Nordwind: The Ribbonmeister!
Alfred Kelberry: where did you commute so early?
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Storm Nordwind: I take my wife to work. It's only 8km each way and is usually very quick.
Alfred Kelberry: nice
Alfred Kelberry: caring husband :)
Bohemian.
Storm Nordwind: Eliza! Thank you for covering :))
Eliza Madrigal: ooooo I'd better get a sweater :)
Alfred Kelberry: i see it's heavy snowing here too :)
Alfred Kelberry: eliza :)
Eliza Madrigal: Glad you made it Storm :)
Storm Nordwind: Love the Bohemian dress :)
Alfred Kelberry: is it bohemian?
Eliza Madrigal: thanks.. am enjoying colorful clothing lately... maybe the happiness theme
Storm Nordwind: It certainly brings a smile to those around you :)
Eliza Madrigal: it is actually from a shop called "boho hobo" so, yes
Eliza Madrigal: :))
Alfred Kelberry: ah, interesting
--BELL--
Storm Nordwind: "boho hobo" means bohemian I guess :)
Eliza Madrigal: wandering bohemians...
Alfred Kelberry: i think of bohemian as fancy and glamorous
Eliza Madrigal: interesting :)
Alfred Kelberry: a better term would be a warhol style maybe :)
Storm Nordwind: Oh the urban dictionary definition is not quite so flattering!
Eliza Madrigal fears to look into urban dictionary always
Eliza Madrigal: ;-)
Storm Nordwind: haha! Very wise :)
Storm Nordwind: "a person- generally an aloof, arrogant and wealthy person who will purposefully either ruin their clothing, or purchase used clothing so as to stand out from the masses. Generally will be jobless and rely on a wealthy family member for sustainance."
Storm Nordwind: So ignore that!
Eliza Madrigal: I wore clothing like this as a kid actually... 70s... long dresses and patchwork things, so for me it has a funky nostalgia quality
Alfred Kelberry: very accurate :)
Eliza Madrigal laughs
Storm Nordwind: I remember the style. I liked it. Never wore it myself though!
Eliza Madrigal: it wasn't until the 8os I puposefully ruined any clothing =p~
Storm Nordwind: Your own, or someone else's? ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: or hair for that matter... oh the horrible things one can do with bleach
Storm Nordwind: ick!
Alfred Kelberry: 80s style was nice
Storm Nordwind pats Boxy on the head
Home beauty tips.
Eliza Madrigal remembers sitting under a sun lamp with lemon juice on her hair..sigh
Alfred Kelberry: hehe
Eliza Madrigal: resourceful but funny now
Alfred Kelberry: cool :)
Alfred Kelberry: ms. raff! :)
Raffila Millgrove: hi boxy. hello everyone.
Eliza Madrigal: Hello Raffila :)
Alfred Kelberry: grey hair today :)
Raffila Millgrove: that would be silver. lol
Storm Nordwind: My mother was tried bathing in a solution of potassium permanganate to try getting a fake tan (before I was born). BIG mistake! (She turned orange.)
Alfred Kelberry: er, silver :)
Eliza Madrigal: oh my, Storm
Alfred Kelberry: wow
Alfred Kelberry: the things women do to be pretty :)
Carrots.
Eliza Madrigal: I once turned my daughter orange feeding her carrots
Storm Nordwind: So-called "Household tips" in a period of strict rationing after the war
Storm Nordwind: The carrot thing is really dangerous, and not just for the color
Alfred Kelberry: carrot is dangerous?
Storm Nordwind: excess yes
Eliza Madrigal: is it... I had no idea until she was in a certain lighting at the pediatrician's office
Alfred Kelberry: as of anything :)
Storm Nordwind: vitamin A poisoning
Eliza Madrigal: ah
Raffila Millgrove: that's werid. she must be someone who cannot take too much vit A.
Storm Nordwind: There's a very narrow band between reuired min and absolute max
Raffila Millgrove: everyone's system is different.
Eliza Madrigal: it was very subtle... but I learned later not uncommon
Eliza Madrigal: she liked carrots so I mixed them with 'everything'
Raffila Millgrove: i got very bad leg cramps from eating too many bananas. i cannot take too much potassium.
Storm Nordwind: I'm sure it was fine!
Alfred Kelberry: :
Alfred Kelberry: ouch, raff
Eliza Madrigal: that's interesting too
Storm Nordwind: But vitamin A poisoning is deadly and destroys the liver - like sclerosis
Alfred Kelberry: maybe some kind of an allergy
Raffila Millgrove: she probably cannot handle overload of A. we're all set up different in what we need or don't need.
Eliza Madrigal: true
Raffila Millgrove: we disovered that we have a riboflavin deficiency running in our family. and have to eat a bit extra .. to stave off problems.
Storm Nordwind: I know people with a chocolate deficiency... or at least that's what they claim! ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: seems so complex to learn the balances
Raffila Millgrove: hahaha Storm
Eliza Madrigal: :))
Seaweed.
Eliza Madrigal: learned that my cat *loves* sea weed yesterday... he behaved like it was the delight of his life, found that very strange :)
Raffila Millgrove: well if you listen to your body.. you can.. adjust...
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, weird kitty :)
Raffila Millgrove: seaweed! how fun. were you making seaweed salad or sushi?
Eliza Madrigal: yup :)
Storm Nordwind: mmm... Hijiki in soup... yum!
Eliza Madrigal: no... it is funny in terms of this conversation because I heard that sea weed is really important in terms of what we don't get in our diets easily... so I was just eating the sushi sea weed on its own
Eliza Madrigal: my daughter and I... then she gave him a taste...
Eliza Madrigal: and he went wild
Raffila Millgrove: i knnow a macrobiotic counselor who cures people who've got mercury.. too much in their system.. with seaweed. she says it counteracts mercury.
Storm Nordwind: Kelp tablets used to be a popular supplement. No idea whether that's still the case.
Eliza Madrigal: fascinating
--BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: it is so easy to cover natural intuitions
Allergies.
Alfred Kelberry: raff, any ideas for the big pab anniversary? :)
Raffila Millgrove: i had this weird allergy to olive oil.. and it took me over 20 years to figure it out. salad dressing. just poison to me. they didn't use it often in old days but in time.. many people use it..
Eliza Madrigal: oh, that is a difficult one to work around
Raffila Millgrove: no boxy. i was reading in logs that Storm was thinking about making a new.. build here.
Raffila Millgrove: but then again.. maybe he isn't. seems busy now. Storm?
Storm Nordwind: Olive oil - wow! We discovered the other day my wife is allergic to mustard oil
Alfred Kelberry: yes, busy :/
Eliza Madrigal has never heard of mustard oil ;-)
Raffila Millgrove: me neither. at least that one isn't very common.
Eliza Madrigal: bad reaction? hope not
Storm Nordwind: They use mustard oil in Indian cuisine for cooking eggplants
Raffila Millgrove: ah ha.
Storm Nordwind: Fortunately not a bad reaction
Raffila Millgrove: well i am not a huge egglant fan and don't cook them too often.. so i think i'm safe tehre. lol
Alfred Kelberry: how do you discover that one is allergic to olive or mustard oil?
Storm Nordwind: I changed to peanut oil and it was fine
Eliza Madrigal: >whew<
Raffila Millgrove: i can't remember how i figure out. but thank god i did. cause wow it makes me so sick. i'd be in the restroom before we could leave the restaurant.
Raffila Millgrove: i never used it at home.
Alfred Kelberry: aww
Alfred Kelberry: food allergy is tricky. can be a mix of anything.
Raffila Millgrove: yeah.. it can be mixes. if i drink coffe with anything.. whipped cream .. same story. cannot handle the rich diary fat with acid in coffee.
Alfred Kelberry: *notes aph has arrived*
Raffila Millgrove: my mother in law was hospitalized with diahrea. it was so.. life threatening (tiny person and 91 yr old) but when she visited me.. this holiday.. she finally got well cuase.. maybe of how i cook.
Alfred Kelberry: wow, 91
Eliza Madrigal: :) Hi Aphrodite
Raffila Millgrove: what is the plan for the anniversary Boxy.. besides teh happiness exhibit?
Alfred Kelberry: tough cookie
Eliza Madrigal: oh fragile at 91... scary
Flurries.
Storm Nordwind: Good morning Aph!
Aphrodite Macbain: Morning! Is uit raining?
Storm Nordwind: A few snow flurries
Eliza Madrigal: snowing on the green grass :))
Eliza Madrigal: fresh feeling :)
Storm Nordwind: Just inspired by RL :)
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Raffila Millgrove: it's very pretty...snow..
Raffila Millgrove: i like that it is flurries.. coming down a little bit at time..
Eliza Madrigal: softly softly
Raffila Millgrove: restful.
Openness.
Eliza Madrigal: looking around... there are so many lovely things about this pavilion... its openness especially.. the way one can cam around and also decorate it in so many ways like a stage. It would have been nice to have been in PaB in earlier days when at the tea hut and other pavilion, but I do love this one :)
Aphrodite Macbain: San is on line and is asking to be teleported but I dont seem to be able to do si
Alfred Kelberry: raff, couple exhbits: 1. the tree of pab with a leaf and a note for each member, and 2. the vision of pab in 8 years :)
Raffila Millgrove: oh wow. that is interesting.
Eliza Madrigal: I wasn't able to the other day either Aph, only Xirana could
Storm Nordwind: Done
Eliza Madrigal: :)
A dim future...
Raffila Millgrove cannot imagine eight years out.
Eliza Madrigal: Hi San :)
Aphrodite Macbain: Yayyy
Santoshima Resident: hello :)
Alfred Kelberry: i can. storm will replace pema as the pab overlord :)
Santoshima Resident: ty storm, and aph
Aphrodite Macbain: I wonder why storm could do that and I and Eliza can't
Santoshima Resident: dunno
Raffila Millgrove: why would pema need replacement?
Alfred Kelberry: san! :) how's your traveling?
Santoshima Resident: alfred!!!!
Eliza Madrigal: overlord, hah
Aphrodite Macbain: lol
Aphrodite Macbain: ubermench
Alfred Kelberry: raff, 8 years is a long term... :)
Storm Nordwind: If you're not mutual friends, the TP button doesn't light up
Aphrodite Macbain: but we are mf
Santoshima Resident: we are MFs
Storm Nordwind: Then I don't know! How odd
Eliza Madrigal nods
Aphrodite Macbain: painful, as San put it
Alfred Kelberry: mf?
Eliza Madrigal: what was PaB's original face before it was born ? :)
--BELL--
Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
Alfred Kelberry: original face as in... vision?
Eliza Madrigal: thinking of 8 years out, I tried to go 8 years in
Storm Nordwind: It's an alteration of a Zen saying Boxy!
...in Second Life.
Alfred Kelberry: ok, a serious projection would be the demise of sl, possibly
Storm Nordwind: That's quite likely.
Raffila Millgrove: i wonder.
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Alfred Kelberry: then we'd move to opensim
Storm Nordwind: We may be on OpenSim or somewhere else
Aphrodite Macbain: wow. what are we talking about? End games?
Raffila Millgrove: i think LL is looking for a buyer... SL could still be here but.. somehow different.
Alfred Kelberry: storm, actually, i hope for a better tech :)
Alfred Kelberry: sl 2.0
Eliza Madrigal: was reading Raffila, what you said about the PaB ribbon and the way that it alters time... brings back voices from the past into the present...
Raffila Millgrove: you never get any feeling that LL has a LONG Term.. plan. like what do they envision five years from now? you neer hear a thing in that line.
Eliza Madrigal: what dreams may come
Raffila Millgrove: oh i love that movie.
Raffila Millgrove: it's on my top ten list..
Eliza Madrigal: :) beautiful visions
Alfred Kelberry: there's a new disruptive player is probably brewing at the moment as we speak
Raffila Millgrove: yes. it's one of the most beautiful... movies.. for.. visual.. ever made. i could see it a hundred times.. with no sound.. just looking at it.
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Alfred Kelberry: wait, what movie?
Santoshima Resident: yeah
Eliza Madrigal: What Dreams May Come
Aphrodite Macbain: there's always a disruptive player brewing
Alfred Kelberry: *looks*
Raffila Millgrove: the star of the movie--is a painter.. and at certain points.. the... whole movie--turns into paint on canvas.. it's amazing.
Eliza Madrigal: titled from the Shakespeare line
Raffila Millgrove: bosy are you thinking--viewer? or person?
Alfred Kelberry: oh yes! with robbin williams. it's a good one.
Raffila Millgrove: disruptive.. viewer? got confused.
Raffila Millgrove: I am not a fan of Robin... but he does well in this film.
Alfred Kelberry: raff, a company that would destroy the current virtual worlds mechanics
Aphrodite Macbain: why would it do that? what does it have to gain?
Raffila Millgrove: ah.
Raffila Millgrove: well... LL has done pretty fine job of thwarting it's own residents.. so who knows what another co would come up with.
Aphrodite Macbain: What does LL stand for?
Alfred Kelberry: aph, a new way of building virtual worlds
Storm Nordwind: LInden Lab
Aphrodite Macbain: oh duh!
Raffila Millgrove: LInden Labs.. the corporate owners of SL
Storm Nordwind: Lab
Raffila Millgrove: yes Lab
Raffila Millgrove: not labs.
Santoshima Resident: lotsa loot
Storm Nordwind chuckles
Aphrodite Macbain: grins
Eliza Madrigal: :))
Alfred Kelberry: same as digital photography brought a lot of flexibility and at the same time killed the film
Aphrodite Macbain: lotsa loot but lousy landlords
Raffila Millgrove: they screwed up.. so many times.. in losing.. educational insitutions, big business.. they really haven't got much left.. to pursue.. except that facebook crap.
Eliza Madrigal: at the same time they may recognize not having the will to 'go on' and may be making due until the next emergence
Eliza Madrigal: watching for the waves and new forms
Raffila Millgrove: they drew in wonderful.. institutions and businesses.. but then.. they didn't support them.. they had no idea how to really help them use SL effectively.. and made many mistakes.. so they cannot bring in any more. track record is a mess.
Eliza Madrigal: agree
Eliza Madrigal: it would take something remarkable
Aphrodite Macbain: yes they are bad at support, very bad
Storm Nordwind will adapt ... but let the "bright young things" (like Boxy) do the pioneering now
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Boxy is indeed very bright
Raffila Millgrove: like they raised tier on non profilts.. right at a point where.. the educational insitutions and non profits. already ahd their budgets approved. .and they couldn't handle the extra fees.
Alfred Kelberry: *hides behind the balloon*
Aphrodite Macbain watches Boxy brightly twinkle
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Luci :)
Raffila Millgrove: big screwups like that.
Alfred Kelberry: luci!
Storm Nordwind: Rejoice! It's Cinda :)
Raffila Millgrove: shot self in foot over and over.
Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Cinda
Aphrodite Macbain: smiles and waves
Storm Nordwind: How was the rehearsal?
Raffila Millgrove: hi San and Lucinda.
Santoshima Resident: hello raffila, have we met before? hi luci ~
Raffila Millgrove: perhaps once. maybe not. happy to meet you.
Aphrodite Macbain: Pretty blue dress
Lucinda Lavender: ah...hi everyone:)
Lucinda Lavender: distracted as I entered
Server.
Alfred Kelberry: storm, with the new server this imagine is not very accurate anymore :) http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/compiling.png
Alfred Kelberry: as soon as you take out a sword, it's done :)
Raffila Millgrove: haha boxy. good one.
--BELL--
Storm Nordwind: I remember those days... and back further when it was the one machine in the department and EVERYBODY had to wait!
The tunes in my head.
Storm Nordwind: How was Zadok, Cinda?
Alfred Kelberry: ah, yes. the machine guardians :)
Lucinda Lavender: It was a Blast!
Storm Nordwind: Yay!
Lucinda Lavender: very loud in a school cafeteria with full orchestra
Storm Nordwind: hahaha!
Eliza Madrigal: eek...
Lucinda Lavender: my alma mater it was
Storm Nordwind: That'd make your hair stand on end!
Lucinda Lavender: yes
Alfred Kelberry: oh, lovely, luci
Eliza Madrigal has attended many a cafeteria performance
Eliza Madrigal: but hm
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Lucinda Lavender: I bet eliza!
Lucinda Lavender: I never sang as a student there tho so this was kind of cool...
Eliza Madrigal: aw nice :)
Raffila Millgrove: sweet!
Eliza Madrigal: making a memory 'out of time'
Lucinda Lavender: the music is running through my head today...and all night as I slept
Eliza Madrigal: mmmm
Alfred Kelberry: luci, you're like a teen - always with a tune in your head :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Yakuzza :)
Alfred Kelberry: yaku san :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey all
Lucinda Lavender: nodding...and not your usual tunes for teens either...I do not really listen to music much now...
Storm Nordwind: Which is fine Boxy. It's when the tunes leave their head there are problems! ;)
Alfred Kelberry: storm, did not say it wasn't :)
Lucinda Lavender: I always used music to process feelings I think as a younger person..now not so much...
Alfred Kelberry: *has country tunes at the moment*
Alfred Kelberry: luci, have you tried to paint them?
Breakfast.
Aphrodite Macbain: Must eat breakfast!
Eliza Madrigal: nice idea
Eliza Madrigal: both painting and breakfast :)
Storm Nordwind: Bon appetit!
Aphrodite Macbain: I'll reuturn later.
Eliza Madrigal waves
Yakuzza Lethecus: bon appetit ap
Aphrodite Macbain: :-) maybe I'll paint my breakfast
Eliza Madrigal laughs
Lucinda Lavender: bye for now aph)
Storm Nordwind chuckles
Eliza Madrigal: or with your breakfast
Alfred Kelberry: eat well, aph
Alfred Kelberry: what did you all have for breakfast?
Eliza Madrigal: spaghetti, lol
Lucinda Lavender: oatmeal
Santoshima Resident: idli and a banana
Storm Nordwind: Nothing today ... wanted to get out earlier through the snow
Alfred Kelberry: spaghetti bolognese?
Eliza Madrigal: simple marinara
Raffila Millgrove: chicken sandwich and fruit
Alfred Kelberry: idli - a south Indian steamed cake of rice, usually served with sambhar
Eliza Madrigal: wealth of knowledge, Boxy
Santoshima Resident: semolina
Lucinda Lavender: sounds yummy
Yakuzza Lethecus is getting hungry
Alfred Kelberry: wow, deja vu... just now
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, you already said that before
Alfred Kelberry: in this exact conversation :)
Alfred Kelberry: weird
Eliza Madrigal: :) likely so
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Storm Nordwind imagines a fresh paratha for breakfast
Santoshima Resident: mmm
Lucinda Lavender: imagining an extra coffee and a doughnut
Alfred Kelberry: from all the options given, i think i'd go with a chicken sandwich right now :)
Parting.
Lucinda Lavender: ok all...will take my leave:)
Alfred Kelberry: sing well, luci
Storm Nordwind: Good to see you Cinda!
Eliza Madrigal: :) Bye Luci, nice to see you
Raffila Millgrove: congrats on successful performance Luci.
Raffila Millgrove has to go too.
Lucinda Lavender: that woun't come till Mar 11
Santoshima Resident: so does san
Eliza Madrigal: and me as well
Santoshima Resident: bye
Eliza Madrigal: Bye San and Raffila
Raffila Millgrove waves bye to all. have a great day!
Storm Nordwind waves to all leaving
Lucinda Lavender: we are hoping to get it together...
Eliza Madrigal: and Yaku Storm, and Boxy :)
Lucinda Lavender: Raffila nice to meet you
Lucinda Lavender: San hope your time is going well
Lucinda Lavender: and Storm hope you have passable roads
Storm Nordwind: Thank you :)
