2014.06.10 19:00 - PaB touching the earth?

The Guardian for this meeting was Eos Amaterasu. The comments are by Eos Amaterasu.

Eliza Madrigal: 's current display-name is "Eliza".
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Eos :) Thought you were moving to 6pm...
Eos Amaterasu: Oh, I'd like to.
Eliza Madrigal: Seems a good idea to me, just probably a good idea to send a reminder for a few weeks

    Eliza Madrigal: All else well?
Eos Amaterasu: Yes, busy time... house, health, work, project 1, project 2, .... :-)
Eos Amaterasu: How are your rainbows?
Eliza Madrigal: :) unfolding as envisioned?
Eos Amaterasu: unfolding pre envisioning, perhaps
Eliza Madrigal: a bit shimmery... digging in to the mundane
    Eliza Madrigal: feels grounding
    Eos Amaterasu: touching the earth?
    Eliza Madrigal: exactly, yes
Eliza Madrigal: you mention health... all okay? and projects... anything interesting?
Eos Amaterasu: as the starship enterprise ages it gets buffeted by more ionic and cosmic storms....
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eliza Madrigal: enigmatic as ever... hope you're taking care

Eliza Madrigal: I had to jaunt out for an errand a while ago, long enough to hear part of a radio show in which there was a panel of fathers...
Eliza Madrigal: talking about the experience of babies, mostly, but diverse in the sense that they came from different backgrounds themselves.
Eliza Madrigal: One of them, an actor, said "Well a lot of the time I had to pretend to be the father I should be."
    Eos Amaterasu: said the actor
Eliza Madrigal: Made me think of the ways I've heard "playing as Being" described.. remembering Eden once introducing the group as "playing as if enlightened"
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eos Amaterasu: what if no if, as Pema once said [one link]
Eliza Madrigal: nice - I don't remember that
Eliza Madrigal: I liked the way the father described it, as if it was something he reached in for, when he ran out
Eos Amaterasu: maybe fatherhood is a mutual learning twix father and child
Eos Amaterasu: motherhood too, I would think
Eliza Madrigal nods... I felt that from the first
Eos Amaterasu: I've been paying more attention to babies and little children
Eos Amaterasu: attention to their quality of attention

    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: what do you notice?
Eos Amaterasu: kind of wide open quality
    Eos Amaterasu: with energetic attention
Eliza Madrigal: I take that impression somewhat literally... as though when born there is no sub and regular consciousness
Eos Amaterasu: there's a field that's being entered or encountered in which both baby and other are being discovered
    Eos Amaterasu: mutual definitioning
Eos Amaterasu: like smiling and responding to smiling
Eos Amaterasu: what it means to smile is being drawn out and discovered in the encounter
Eos Amaterasu: I don't know - it's weird and wonderful
    Eliza Madrigal: :) am thinking..
Eliza Madrigal: similar experience to some buddha statues/images
    Eliza Madrigal: restful, open field
Eliza Madrigal: empathetic because there is permission to be so
Eos Amaterasu: any particular statue or image?
Eliza Madrigal: for me there are a few... a Longchenpa image, or the very traditional buddha with the gown folds draped
Eliza Madrigal: and similar experience with some photos
Eliza Madrigal: there are actually many if I think about it... but thinking of "wide-open" like you describe...and restful
Eliza Madrigal: I haven't been around very many babies lately :))
Eos Amaterasu: there's a day care near where I work, so I see little beings often :-)
    Eliza Madrigal: aw, nice
Eos Amaterasu: also there were four baby robins in nest under porch roof (they have flown off, though)
Eliza Madrigal: how sweet! I captured a NS robin in a photo, standing on a pole... so plump
Eos Amaterasu: it's funny how you can feel a kind of empathy or sympathy with the birds, hopping around gathering things to eat and give the kids :-)
Eliza Madrigal: am inches away from the most restful cat you've ever seen, too... curled up

Eos Amaterasu: kind of a breakthrough thought re economics and well-being and work: redefine labor as caring for other people
Eos Amaterasu: that is worth paying for, that is real labor
Eos Amaterasu: otherwise live on guaranteed income

    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: maybe age, but I somewhat despair of seeing a changes of systems... which actually may be a good sign
    Eliza Madrigal: *ever
Eliza Madrigal: like the phrase "conscious capitalism" ....hm...
Eliza Madrigal: doesn't that just mean same system with yoga pants on :)
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
Eliza Madrigal: but please say more about what you mean :)
    Eliza Madrigal: dignified livelihood?
Eos Amaterasu: I read this article... http://www.salon.com/2014/06/01/help_us_thomas_piketty_the_1s_sick_and_twisted_new_scheme/
Eliza Madrigal: ah, Piketty! ty (clicks and saves)
Eos Amaterasu: and was struck by something that circled around "labor as caring for other people"
Eos Amaterasu: the occupations that matter most are remunerated least
Eos Amaterasu: administrators make more than teachers, or nurses
Eliza Madrigal: Ken McCleod recommended this book "Debt" in a newsletter last year, how interesting.I bought it actually but didn't read it
Eos Amaterasu: Debt the last 5000 years (something like that?) (Debt: The First 5000 Years)
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Eos Amaterasu: that's the guy in the article
    Eos Amaterasu: David Graeber
Eliza Madrigal: it has been this way a long time, Eos... re honor and service
Eliza Madrigal: maybe the dialog is opening a bit
Eliza Madrigal: with some states daring higher wages and companies being outed for various injustices
Eos Amaterasu: like Seattle's new $15 minimum wage?
    Eliza Madrigal: exactly
Eliza Madrigal: and Walmart profits dropping for years in a row... I think due to people knowing that many employees there still cannot pay for basics
Eliza Madrigal: are on public assistance and working full time
    Eliza Madrigal: things like that
Eos Amaterasu: like that video clip (from Thailand was it?) of being generous with no expectation of return
Eos Amaterasu: (that's the best life insurance :-)
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eos Amaterasu: I think there are sprouts of paradigm shift
Eliza Madrigal: well it is the way to guarantee joy in moments
Eos Amaterasu: I think the "selfishness has good side effects for everybody" meme is turning out to be hollow
    Eliza Madrigal: maybe so...
Eliza Madrigal: but a big justification for people amassing large amounts of wealth is that they can be and are "charitable"
Eos Amaterasu: hmm... they steal from the commons and then get tax deductions for giving some back in return for getting their names on buildings
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Eos Amaterasu: it also ends up being a privatization of "public benefit"
Eliza Madrigal: that's a very good point

    --BELL--

Eos Amaterasu: a form of psychological materialism, buying a good name and reputation and place in history
    Eliza Madrigal: "legacy"
Eos Amaterasu: but what I wonder about is if something like circulating play as being through RL, ordinary worlds, can help ventilate, open up, so generosity arises spontaneously
    Eos Amaterasu: like play
    Eos Amaterasu: response
    Eos Amaterasu: empathy
Eliza Madrigal: very much likes the wonderings
Eliza Madrigal: It is a strange thing...difficult to describe even in SL, how much more so in ordinary worlds... but I do think about arts - creative endeavors that show
    Eos Amaterasu: (like buddha statues?)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: among other things... like, why not try everything and see what flies or floats...
Eliza Madrigal: I think many people communicate through you-tubes these days. Bleu's machinima touched on some ideas
Eliza Madrigal: but there are also things like the "blogginheads" videos, where people share/debate in friendly ways... lots of ideas
Eos Amaterasu: magic buses through RL
Eliza Madrigal: If I hang a photo on my wall, of our gathering in SL, it doesn't show "what is PaB"
Eliza Madrigal: what is playing as being
Eliza Madrigal: people would more likely be curious about "the game" or the SL medium
Eliza Madrigal: (just thinking about RL visitors passing through my place)
Eliza Madrigal: I guess I feel that when I converse with people, they are interested in all the trappings
Eliza Madrigal: but if heart comes out, that's weird
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eos Amaterasu: heart on sleeve is challenging :-)
Eliza Madrigal: and like meditating on birds, hard to sit still long enough to get there
    Eliza Madrigal: haha
Eliza Madrigal: I think I'm typing in my sleep
Eos Amaterasu: sheep shaped like letters...
    Eliza Madrigal: fluffy...blurry...
Eliza Madrigal: thanks for these inspiring thoughts....
Eos Amaterasu: thank you for presence & heart :-)
Eliza Madrigal: You too ^.^ Pleasant dreams
    Eos Amaterasu: good night!
