Qt Core: it seems that the new router is working well, yesterday i was in SL and had no crashes (hoping those wont be my famous last words)

Wol Euler: it's nice when things have simple solutions :)
Qt Core: the main reason the seller told me to choose it is that it is german made ;-)

Qt Core: and it showed its german precision when refused to work untill i followed every and each wizard configuration stem, the first few tries i skipped it in "i'm a berd, i know what i am doing attitude"

Qt Core: an hour later i went back to the wizard and worked at first try

Qt Core: a nice feature of the new router is the ability to reduce the power consumption, as in reducing the power it give to the usb ports (from the 3 specs level to 2 one) or to the lan port, from the power needed for gigabit lan to 100mb lan, plus the usual shut the wifi completely or on a schedule basis
Wol Euler: hmmmm
Wol Euler: it never occurred to me to shut mine off, except once in a while to reboot it
Qt Core: since a few months ago i used to shut completely my router when i was home, then i become lazier and let it always on, even if there is no one that would (legitimately) use it when i'm not home

Qt Core: and obviously when i was NOT home (or sleeping)

Wol Euler: I keep mine in "stealth" mode with a dictionary-proof password, and hope that's secure enough to leave it running
Qt Core: i'm more concerned about wasting energy and electromagnetic pollution, even if i believe they are safe it is better to have them off if not in use

Wol Euler: I could easily do without the wifi, actually, I seldom use my iPad for anything but music when at home
Qt Core: but as i'm said i'm more lazy that environmental/health worried
Wol Euler: do you switch off your cellphone too?
Qt Core: no, but sometimes i swith off its wifi or data network, bluethoot is almost always down as the gps (if not for traking my bicycle rides or navigation

Qt Core: as the router supports both the 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz network i have to see if i can use only one ans switch the other off too
Qt Core: but i may try to see if the signal can get to the tv on the other side of my house, before it was unreliable so i ended up putting away the tv wifi dongle

Qt Core: oh, right, i remember now something about it
Qt Core: i reread myself and it seems i'm a crossbread between an health freak and a fanatic ecologist...

Qt Core: i often wonder what all the self dubbed green/eco people are ready to renounce in their fight
Wol Euler: well, that's the crux of it all, isn't it?
