Aphrodite Macbain's current display-name is "Aph".
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Aph :) You look cozy
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Eliza!
Eliza Madrigal: was just admiring your outfit ^.^
    Aphrodite Macbain: Thanks
Aphrodite Macbain: yes- the weather is cooling down
Aphrodite Macbain: time for sweaters and jackets
Eliza Madrigal: how I wish :))
Aphrodite Macbain: especially up here in the north!
Eliza Madrigal: although, I tend toward cold and am often wearing long sleeves and sweaters anyway
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hot in Florida?
Eliza Madrigal: warm now, which I'm thankful for after a particularly brutal summer
Aphrodite Macbain: brutal- as in cold?
Eliza Madrigal: oh, was terribly hot july/august/september
    Aphrodite Macbain: ah
Eliza Madrigal: What have you been up to, teaching?
Aphrodite Macbain: and they still deny global warming...!
Aphrodite Macbain: No teaching in the summer
    Aphrodite Macbain: Just from Jan-April
Eliza Madrigal: oh, so not through Fall either... nice
Aphrodite Macbain: Recently I've been seeing movies- the Vancouver International Film Festival is upon us
Aphrodite Macbain: and I'm painting again
    Eliza Madrigal: favorites?
Aphrodite Macbain: So far, I've not been impressed
Eliza Madrigal: There is a Korean film I want to see so much, but it was only here one day for a festival
Eliza Madrigal: and I had school :/
    Aphrodite Macbain: school?
    Eliza Madrigal: called Burning
    Aphrodite Macbain: teaching or learning?
Eliza Madrigal: I've been taking a paralegal course since July, almost done
Aphrodite Macbain: Oh - I'll look and see if it's being shown here
    Aphrodite Macbain: wonderful!
Eliza Madrigal: the film has an actor I've seen in other things and he's well worth the trouble
Aphrodite Macbain: Are there jobs available nearby?
Bleu Oleander's current display-name is "Bleu".
Bleu Oleander: hi Eliza, Aph :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hey Bleu!
Eliza Madrigal: thanks :) I may need to move a little North, but we'll see
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bleu :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Here I am
    Bleu Oleander: hey Aggers :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: Heya Aggers!
    Eliza Madrigal: Here you are!
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello Aphie :))
    Agatha Macbeth: LTNS
Eliza Madrigal giggles at this animation while laying on tummy...
    Aphrodite Macbain: pretty in pink...
    Agatha Macbeth: The pink panther
    Eliza Madrigal: very cute
Aphrodite Macbain: u look very comfortable
Eliza Madrigal: when I type, I swim
    Bleu Oleander: :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: I noticed
Agatha Macbeth: I know someone who does that same armwaving when she talks
    Aphrodite Macbain: the dog paddle
    Eliza Madrigal giggles, easily amused
    Agatha Macbeth: :P
Bruce Mowbray's current display-name is "Bruce".
    --BELL--1.00
    Agatha Macbeth: Brucieeee!!! :)))
    Bleu Oleander: hey Bruce :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bruce!
    Agatha Macbeth: Welcome back
    Bruce Mowbray: Aggerssss!
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hey Bruce
    Bruce Mowbray: Hi, everyone.
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Tura
Agatha Macbeth: And hello Tura :)
    Bleu Oleander: hiya Tura :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Tura :)
    Tura Brezoianu: hi all
Agatha Macbeth: The girl in shorts
Eliza Madrigal: ltns Bruce, how've you been?
    Bruce Mowbray: Hmmm. All right.
    Bruce Mowbray: and thee?
    Agatha Macbeth: Squirrels too?
    Eliza Madrigal: :) same
Bruce Mowbray: Squirrels are also all right.
    Aphrodite Macbain: squirrels?
    Agatha Macbeth: Woot
    Bruce Mowbray:
Agatha Macbeth: They live with Bruce
Agatha Macbeth: Must like his nuts or something
Bruce Mowbray: well, in the trees that surround Bruce's digs.
    Agatha Macbeth: Right
    Aphrodite Macbain: I seeee
    Bruce Mowbray nods.
Bruce Mowbray: Haven't tried to catch any this year.
Aphrodite Macbain: there are red, black and grey ones climbing my tree
Aphrodite Macbain: chasing eachother, round and round
    Agatha Macbeth: Multicoloured squirrels
Eliza Madrigal: just missing the little brown ones?
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe a fat pack
    Aphrodite Macbain: ha!
    Aphrodite Macbain: a chatter pack
    Eliza Madrigal grins
    Bleu Oleander: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Squirrel discount

    Anyway...to business

Eliza Madrigal: So, I take it we are all interested in deciding a next book?
    Agatha Macbeth: Aye
Aphrodite Macbain: They booth look good
    Agatha Macbeth: They doo
Eliza Madrigal: I think so too, would be happy with either
Eliza Madrigal: Are there other suggestions though?
    Bleu Oleander: me too
Agatha Macbeth: Lord of the rings? No?
Bleu Oleander: we once suggested Gilgamesh too
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah right
    Eliza Madrigal: Ohh, that's right
Aphrodite Macbain: There is also a book by Yuval Harari called 21 lessons for the 21st century which is excellent
    Agatha Macbeth: I recall
Eliza Madrigal: sorry not to include that one in the emails
Eliza Madrigal: you're reading that now, Aph?
Bleu Oleander: all of Harai's books are interesting
Aphrodite Macbain: What can we learn from that epic?
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes I am
    Eliza Madrigal nods
    Bleu Oleander: me too
Aphrodite Macbain: We could divide it into 21 weeks...
Bruce Mowbray: It's also available on Audiobooks.
Aphrodite Macbain: /me's need for order takes over
Eliza Madrigal: he just did a fascinating interview with Natalie Portman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ledJ...ature=youtu.be
    Eliza Madrigal: (for later)
    Aphrodite Macbain: oh?
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh great
Bleu Oleander: there are lots of interviews with him on line
Agatha Macbeth: Anakin will be happy
Eliza Madrigal nods, there were a few new directions in this one
Eliza Madrigal: So how shall we decide among a bunch of good choices?
Aphrodite Macbain: we can decide to read all of them
Aphrodite Macbain: and just decide which order
    Bleu Oleander: ha!
Eliza Madrigal: :) will leave that to Bleu
    Eliza Madrigal grins
    Bleu Oleander: :P
Aphrodite Macbain: I'd love to read and discuss all of them
Eliza Madrigal: they do all seem worthy
Eliza Madrigal: probably can only commit to one at a time though
    Aphrodite Macbain: oh yes
Eliza Madrigal: Probably any of them are interesting enough to invite people to talk about as well
Aphrodite Macbain: shall we put them in a hat, shake it and see which comes out first?
Eliza Madrigal: hahah, if you know how to!
Agatha Macbeth: Is that poss in SL?
Aphrodite Macbain: yes- a bit of a challenge
    Aphrodite Macbain: maybe decide alphabetically
    Aphrodite Macbain: by author
Agatha Macbeth: I'm sure somebody could write a script for it :p
    Eliza Madrigal: Tura? Bleu?
    Bleu Oleander: Storm could :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: lol
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh probably
Aphrodite Macbain: since he's not here
Tura Brezoianu: My very first thought :)
Agatha Macbeth: Where is he anyway?
Eliza Madrigal yells for Storm while using telepathy
    Agatha Macbeth rubs the lamp
Eliza Madrigal watches the stone henge
    Agatha Macbeth: Any druids?
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: What do you think, Bruce? preferences?
Aphrodite Macbain: I play scrabble with him. I've texted him in case he's there
Bruce Mowbray: Hmmmm. I intend to listen to the lessons for the 21st century anyway...
Bruce Mowbray: so, I'm leaning toward that.
Bruce Mowbray: but will go with whatever the group decides.
Aphrodite Macbain: There is an introduction before he starts
    Eliza Madrigal: oh, thanks Aph
    Agatha Macbeth: The prologue
Aphrodite Macbain: we could read that first
Agatha Macbeth: 'It came to pass...'
Aphrodite Macbain: then begin properly the following week
    Agatha Macbeth: That would work
Tura Brezoianu: I read through the Horgan book, and I'm a little way into Puett. I haven't read Harari.
Agatha Macbeth: Always thought that was the capital of Zimbabwe
    --BELL--1.15
    Aphrodite Macbain: lol
Eliza Madrigal: Does it seem interesting to you, Tura?
Aphrodite Macbain: Is it available on line?
Eliza Madrigal: doubtful such a recent book would be online, so we'd need to give a few weeks for people to buy and be ready, and to advertise in SL
Tura Brezoianu: I found Horgan's book interesting, but somehow, I don't know, inconsequential. It's online. THat's "Mind Body Problems".
Aphrodite Macbain: Storm can't make it today
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, thanks for the feedback
    Agatha Macbeth: Aww
Tura Brezoianu: Ultimately he doesn't come to any conclusions, but the views along the way are interesting
    Agatha Macbeth: Cooking again?
    Aphrodite Macbain: Nods.
    Aphrodite Macbain: He's going out
Eliza Madrigal: Seems an interesting character, but I haven't gotten too far into the book https://blogs.scientificamerican.com...&sf199768001=1
Aphrodite Macbain: We are left to make our own conclusions?
Bleu Oleander: its more interesting if you know the people he's writing about
    Aphrodite Macbain: always!
Tura Brezoianu: I guess so, since he doesn't :)
    Bleu Oleander: :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Erk
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Okay so let's narrow down to... Gilgamesh and Harari
Tura Brezoianu: (refferring to making conclusions, not knowing the people)
Aphrodite Macbain: what can we learn from the Gilgamesh epic?
    Eliza Madrigal nods :)
Bleu Oleander: I didn't agree with his conclusions
Tura Brezoianu: did we decide against Puett already?
Aphrodite Macbain: I thought we would accept all of them and just decide the order of reading
Eliza Madrigal: I like that one too...if there is still interest let's keep it in there, sorry thanks
Eliza Madrigal: we could do that way, but maybe have different host for each?
    Aphrodite Macbain: good idea

    Visitors?

Eliza Madrigal: I don't know if we'll have visitors, but if we do it will be important for someone to send them notes, etc. catch them up
Aphrodite Macbain: through the chat log?
Eliza Madrigal: and in IMs, and making sure they can join the friends group
Aphrodite Macbain: do you have many visitors now?
    Eliza Madrigal: no :(
Agatha Macbeth: Is that still open?
    Aphrodite Macbain: membership?
Bleu Oleander: Steve gets a few when he lists the session
Agatha Macbeth: Yeh, the Friends group
Aphrodite Macbain: People may come for specific readings
Eliza Madrigal: which is okay mostly, in terms of enjoying company, but will be nice to extend the invitation
    Aphrodite Macbain: I agree
Aphrodite Macbain: a good way to get more Pabbers
    Agatha Macbeth looks
Eliza Madrigal: :) Okay... so which order?
    Aphrodite Macbain: alphabetical?
Agatha Macbeth: Ah yes it is
    Aphrodite Macbain: by author?
    Bleu Oleander: by age?
    Aphrodite Macbain: Gilgames, HArari, Puett...
Bleu Oleander: Gilgamesh is oldest known story
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes
    Agatha Macbeth: It's an epic
Aphrodite Macbain: let's start at the beginning - 4000 years ago
Tura Brezoianu: the others are almost simultaneous in comparison
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Eliza Madrigal: it is a specific book though.. what was the exact title Bleu?
Aphrodite Macbain: can we all read cuneiform?
    Eliza Madrigal grins
Aphrodite Macbain: The Gilgamesh Epic ?
Bruce Mowbray: It is online in several translations...
Agatha Macbeth: Keep taking the tablets
    Bruce Mowbray: http://uruk-warka.dk/Gilgamish/The%2...0Gilgamesh.pdf
Bleu Oleander: there are many versions
    Aphrodite Macbain: thanks Bruce
Bleu Oleander: and different ways of translating it
    Agatha Macbeth: Yay

    Reading from the same page...

Bruce Mowbray: There are other editions...
Bruce Mowbray: we should decide on one.
Aphrodite Macbain: we can all read the same one
Eliza Madrigal: Hm, I hope we can all be on the same one this time
Bleu Oleander: the one I like is by Benjamin Foster
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, all read the same one.
    Agatha Macbeth: Good plan
Aphrodite Macbain: how can we get that one Bleu?
Bleu Oleander: but its a little harder to read because it leaves in all that gaps of which there are many
    Bleu Oleander: https://www.amazon.com/Epic-Gilgames...40_&dpSrc=srch
Agatha Macbeth: Like the 90 secs?
Aphrodite Macbain: Is it a simple story? What are we to get from the story?
    Aphrodite Macbain: Thanks Bleu
Bleu Oleander: that book includes some other translations too, Gilgamesh poetry and some criticism
    Aphrodite Macbain: Gilgamesh poetry?
    Bleu Oleander: about him
Aphrodite Macbain: was Gilgamesh a poet?
    Aphrodite Macbain: ah
Bleu Oleander: Herbert Mason's Gilgamesh is good too
Agatha Macbeth: He might have been (who knows? :p)
Bleu Oleander: Gilgamesh was a King
Aphrodite Macbain: As far as I remember he was a sort of warrior
    Aphrodite Macbain: worrier?
    --BELL--1.30
Eliza Madrigal: kings do tend to worry :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: they have to fight sun and floods
Bruce Mowbray: I don't think the Foster translation is available except through purchasing the book.
Bleu Oleander: he was a not so nice King who had his me-too moments :) and learned some powerful lessons about live
    Aphrodite Macbain: $15.46 used
Tura Brezoianu: I see that it includes "The Gilgamesh Letter", apparently a text Mesopotamian children used
Aphrodite Macbain: so we will be able to learn his lessons?
Agatha Macbeth: Enkidu is good...a kind of Tarzan
Bleu Oleander: I think we can all relate to the story
Bruce Mowbray: The Maureen Gallery Kovacs translation is available online for free. http://uruk-warka.dk/Gilgamish/The%2...0Gilgamesh.pdf
    Aphrodite Macbain: Right
Aphrodite Macbain: and Shamash was the powerful sun god
Agatha Macbeth: 'Here comes the sun'
    Bleu Oleander: https://www.amazon.com/Gilgamesh-Ver...70_&dpSrc=srch
Aphrodite Macbain: Too many choices! (Holds her head in her hands and shakes it.)
Eliza Madrigal: was thinking the same thing, we're making more choices to narrow down :)
Eliza Madrigal: I'm okay with either version, if there is a reason to choose a newer or basic
Aphrodite Macbain: The former edition is a bit cheaper
Bleu Oleander: that happens when you're dealing with old stories and many translations
    Eliza Madrigal nods
    Agatha Macbeth nods
    Agatha Macbeth: Snap
Eliza Madrigal: sometimes a newer translation can be really helpful to open the text, but I have no idea in this case
Aphrodite Macbain: Bleu- which do you recommend?
    Bleu Oleander: https://www.worldliteraturetoday.org...enjamin-foster
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe Brucie would know, since he suggested it?
Bruce Mowbray: Used Foster edition for $3 on Amazon.
Bleu Oleander: I like the Foster book best
Tura Brezoianu: Here's a few more online versions: http://www.aina.org/books/eog/eog.pdf https://archive.org/details/TheEpicofGilgamesh_201606 http://www.otgateway.com/articles/gilgamesh.pdf (rather fragmentary) https://d3jc3ahdjad7x7.cloudfront.ne...3DN3aPcGWE.pdf (probably illicit, this is the Penguin paperback edition)
    Aphrodite Macbain: sounds good
    Aphrodite Macbain: Brue
    Aphrodite Macbain: $3 = 5$ Canadian
    Agatha Macbeth: 5 loonies
Bruce Mowbray: I didn't recommend it, but I'll read it.
    Aphrodite Macbain: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: OK I'll read that one too
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh
    Agatha Macbeth: (Confused again)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: We have narrowed down to one starting book
Aphrodite Macbain: Do you have the address for that Bruce?
Tura Brezoianu: There's a new version of the Norton coming out in December.
    Aphrodite Macbain: Let's not wait
Bruce Mowbray: Hmmm. Address for what, Aph?
    Bruce Mowbray: The Amazon listing?
Eliza Madrigal: If the Foster isn't much (doesn't seem to be?) then why don't we move ahead with that one?
Bleu Oleander: there are new additions to the story ... its a work in progress as they translate more tablets and make new discoveries
    Bruce Mowbray: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...ster+gilgamesh
Eliza Madrigal: we can bring supplemental materials to session along the way too
Eliza Madrigal: if we happen upon them
    Bruce Mowbray: Sounds good.
Aphrodite Macbain: Sin-liqe-unninni is the author
    Aphrodite Macbain: Thanks Bruce
Eliza Madrigal will be happy to do the visitor/notecard part for sessions, but would you be willing make common sense outline/division of sections before we start, Bleu?
Agatha Macbeth: What a great name!
Aphrodite Macbain: trips off the tongue
Agatha Macbeth: Might trip over mine
    Aphrodite Macbain: $3.99 shipping
Aphrodite Macbain: OK I'll order that one. :)
Bleu Oleander: common sense outline? I might not have time to do that but could take a stab at it
Aphrodite Macbain: That would be great Bleu
Eliza Madrigal: Okay, thanks. We don't have to start next week ... could even start beginning November if more reasonable
Bleu Oleander: we can just do the main story in the book if you like
Aphrodite Macbain: Give us a chance to read the intro
Bleu Oleander: mid nov would be better for me
Aphrodite Macbain: Nov 15 is a Thursday
    Bleu Oleander: works for me
Eliza Madrigal: Works for me too, if for everyone :) don't want to lose you guys to the pull of other things though ^.^
Aphrodite Macbain: Intro to Gilgamesh by Bleu = Nov 15
    Agatha Macbeth: Gravity?
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
Bleu Oleander: we can begin reading before that of course
    --BELL--1.45
    Eliza Madrigal: that's true
Aphrodite Macbain: Is there something we could discuss before then?
    Aphrodite Macbain: Like an exhibition....
    Aphrodite Macbain: :)
Bleu Oleander: btw, there are a few readings/videos on line ... not sure which translations they're using but might be helpful to listen to
    Agatha Macbeth: Thx
    Aphrodite Macbain: Oh good
    Agatha Macbeth: Woot
Eliza Madrigal: Well it does feel good to have a general plan :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes
Agatha Macbeth: Unusual for us :p
Aphrodite Macbain: and we can start Harari in the new year
Agatha Macbeth: Just don't invite Mugabe
    Aphrodite Macbain: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: He left the country
Eliza Madrigal: Sounds good to me. I wonder if Harari's Brief History of Human Kind course is still online
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe Trump will do same
    Aphrodite Macbain: Probably Eliza
    Aphrodite Macbain: or Sapiens
Aphrodite Macbain: I doubt it Aggers
    Agatha Macbeth: Me too sadly
Bleu Oleander: might be archived if you took the class
Eliza Madrigal: hm, good idea to see
Aphrodite Macbain: Are u suggesting we read that first Eliza?
Eliza Madrigal: oh, no, thinking aloud
Eliza Madrigal: I'm okay with beginning Gilgamesh first, just wondering about the next few weeks :))
    Agatha Macbeth: Thinking allowed
    Eliza Madrigal: brb
Agatha Macbeth: Gil sounds good to me too
Tura Brezoianu: Seems to be: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...49k-YeY71fiaFp
Eliza Madrigal: sorry, phone but not answering it
Aphrodite Macbain: We would need something short, Eliza
    Eliza Madrigal clicks
    Agatha Macbeth: It's the bank
Eliza Madrigal: wow, whole thing on youtube?
    Bleu Oleander: nice ty!
    Agatha Macbeth: Wow
Eliza Madrigal: that's great, thank you
Agatha Macbeth: Should be an epic watch
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: I really enjoyed a book Tura recommended, "Lifeshocks" but not in a group study kind of way...
Tura Brezoianu: I think there's about 25-30 hours of video there
    Aphrodite Macbain: Nice
    Agatha Macbeth: Epic indeed
Bleu Oleander: looks like the whole class
Aphrodite Macbain: So much to read, so little time...
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Tura Brezoianu: Glad you enjoyed the book Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: have meant to mention that Tura
Eliza Madrigal: It was warm, and I really like the whole notion of lifeshocks to describe what we sometimes call awakenings, or what have you
Tura Brezoianu: But yes, the ideas in it are more experiential, it's not really a book discussion book
Eliza Madrigal nods, it felt very personal, although that in itself isn't a reason why it wouldn't be a group book
Eliza Madrigal: but it was more like sitting with a friend
Bleu Oleander: must get going ... take care all
Aphrodite Macbain: Maybe we can discuss it in the next 5 weeks Eliza
    Eliza Madrigal: bye Bleu, tc
    Bleu Oleander: bfn :)
Bruce Mowbray: I need to be going too. Be well and thank you, everyone.
Agatha Macbeth: Scrape well Brucie x
    Aphrodite Macbain: Bye bye Bleu
Tura Brezoianu: I've done the More To Life course thay's behind it, so I was rading from the point of view of seeing how she would present that in book form.
    Agatha Macbeth: Bye Bleuji
    Aphrodite Macbain: and Bruce
Eliza Madrigal: bye Bruce, gtsy too!
    Tura Brezoianu: Bye Bleu, Bruce
Bruce Mowbray: Bye for now, good people.
Eliza Madrigal: There may be something to that, Aph, maybe why it came to mind
Eliza Madrigal: What did you think, Tura? When comparing?
    --BELL--2.00
Aphrodite Macbain: It would be faster and accessible
Agatha Macbeth: Give her tail a yank :p
Tura Brezoianu: I recognised the things in it. Then I wondered how it comes across to someone new to it.
    Agatha Macbeth: Good perspective
Tura Brezoianu: I know Sophie slightly, through that work, though not well enough to have known all the personal stuff she shares there.
Agatha Macbeth: Well she ought to be wise with that name
    Aphrodite Macbain: who is sophie?
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Tura Brezoianu: Sophie Sabbage, the author of "Lifeshocks"
Eliza Madrigal: What I liked is that she is sharing how all the things she learned and taught came up as life presented deep challenges, so it felt natural and authentic
Eliza Madrigal: although at first that was an obstacle ... 'her' story
Aphrodite Macbain: oh - I thought we were discussing Harari. Sorry!
Eliza Madrigal: Oh :) sorry... threw out a bunch of things as usual Aph
Agatha Macbeth: We seem to be discussing whole libraries
    Aphrodite Macbain: :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: np
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Well I would never have come across this book other than by recommendation
Aphrodite Macbain: I should go and eat lunch...
Eliza Madrigal: I'm not sure how popular the courses are here
Eliza Madrigal: :) bye Aph, looking forward to seeing you more
    Agatha Macbeth: Bon appetit Aphie
    Agatha Macbeth: Yeh
Aphrodite Macbain: Nice to be back. I'll see y'all next week
    Agatha Macbeth: Yay
    Tura Brezoianu: Bye Aph
Tura Brezoianu: More To Life has never advertised much, it's all through word of mouth.
Eliza Madrigal: Seems to draw from many wisdom traditions
    Agatha Macbeth: That's good!
    Agatha Macbeth: Stereoscopic wisdom
Eliza Madrigal: yeah, in a natural kind of integrated way
    Agatha Macbeth: Indeed
Eliza Madrigal: now that the founder has passed away, is the program still active/popular?
Tura Brezoianu: I think it went through a bit of a doldrums, then a crisis when some senior trainers left to do their own things, then a restructuring effort. It's still going, but I haven't had much contact the last few years.
Eliza Madrigal: that makes sense, almost par for these courses
    Agatha Macbeth nods
Agatha Macbeth: Par for the course...I like that
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Tura Brezoianu: Someone Gets Something, and teaches it, but the students never reach the level of the founder.
Agatha Macbeth: Sounds like G again
Eliza Madrigal: nods, or maybe they are not teachers in the same way
Eliza Madrigal: maybe that's why the zen stories of finding someone to pass on the line of lineage to are so dramatic
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: They are?
    Eliza Madrigal: Oh sure
    Agatha Macbeth: That surprises me
Agatha Macbeth: Drama doesn't seem very Zen-y
Eliza Madrigal: I think if you look up stories about the 6th patriarch you'll find some interesting stories
    Agatha Macbeth: Hm
Agatha Macbeth: I might just do that
Tura Brezoianu: One of the Zen patriarchs, I forget which, had to secretly pass on the robe and bowl to his favored candidate and have him flee, lest his rivals assassinate him.
    Agatha Macbeth: Well I never
Agatha Macbeth: Sounds like 'if you meet Buddha kill him'
Eliza Madrigal: it might be the same story we're thinking of
    Eliza Madrigal: http://sped2work.tripod.com/huineng.html
    Tura Brezoianu: That's the one!
    Agatha Macbeth: Aha
Eliza Madrigal: "I come for the dharma not for the bowl!"
    Eliza Madrigal: oops, robe, hah
Eliza Madrigal: I love these stories
Agatha Macbeth: I come to bury Caesar
Tura Brezoianu: Horgan quotes Ken Wilbur as insisting that all gurus have feet of clay.
Agatha Macbeth: Must be why they sit down a lot
    --BELL--2.15
    Tura Brezoianu: :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
