Bruce Mowbray: 's current display-name is "Bruce".
Bruce Mowbray: 's current display-name is "Bruce".
Bruce Mowbray: I'm getting severe lag. Going to re-boot and see if that helps.
    --BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: 's current display-name is "Bruce".
Bruce Mowbray: Doing a bit better now.
Bruce Mowbray: Have you seen Eliza?
Bleu Oleander: 's current display-name is "Bleu".
    Bruce Mowbray: Hey, arabella!
    Bleu Oleander: hey all :)
    Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Bleu!
    arabella Ella: Hiya!
    Bleu Oleander: hiya Ara NTSY!
Bruce Mowbray: It's been too long, ara!
arabella Ella: Yes I have not been here in ages missed you guys tho!
    Bleu Oleander: how's everything?
Bruce Mowbray: nods, and we missed you, too!
    arabella Ella: owwww
    Zon Kwan: heya
arabella Ella: it has probably been months
    Bruce Mowbray: nods.
arabella Ella: but today somehow temptation was too great
    Bleu Oleander: nice :)
    Bruce Mowbray: No Eliza today?
    arabella Ella: how is everyone?
Bleu Oleander: I think Eliza's daughter is graduating today ... so busy I'm sure
Bruce Mowbray: ahhh! I remember something like that, yes.
arabella Ella: sounds like excellent news!
    Bleu Oleander: yes
arabella Ella: Congrats to Eliza and her daughter!
    Bruce Mowbray: [`·.] APPLAUSE!! [.·´]
Bleu Oleander: so it's been very interesting ... all the PaBers responding to the questionnaires
    arabella Ella: yeaaaa!
    Bruce Mowbray listens carefully....
    arabella Ella: listens too /
Bleu Oleander: a discussion is on the wiki from the guardian mtg yesterday
Bleu Oleander: quite a variety of ideas
Bleu Oleander: some still attached to original PaB ideas
    arabella Ella: anything spectacularly striking?
Bleu Oleander: some wanting some changes
Bleu Oleander: seems a few don't want recording
Bleu Oleander: others feel that recording could be reduced to more significant sessions only perhaps
Bleu Oleander: so surveys still coming in
Bleu Oleander: over 20 have come in already
Bruce Mowbray: You got quite response, Bleu -- 20 or so?
    Bruce Mowbray: wow.
Bleu Oleander: probably 30ish by the time all are in I think
Bleu Oleander: some wrote quite a bit
    Bleu Oleander: others shorter
Bleu Oleander: overall picture was that we have a lot of interest in our community
    Bruce Mowbray: for sure!
Bleu Oleander: so how it evolves will be fun to watch
Bleu Oleander: some still interested in the 90 sec pauses ... some not so much
Bleu Oleander: many report taking that concept to rl which is nice to hear
Bleu Oleander: any more thoughts from you all?
arabella Ella: I've often taken the concepts into RL
Bruce Mowbray: For my, PaB requires a bit of blowing on the embers...
Bruce Mowbray: not so muck to re-ignite the original fire
arabella Ella: just given you mine Bleu, quite short I'm afraid due to my recent lack of activity
Bruce Mowbray: as to see what new flames emerge.
    Bruce Mowbray: An art project,
Bleu Oleander: thanks thats great Ara
    Bruce Mowbray: a theme session,
    arabella Ella smiles
    Bruce Mowbray: something entirely new..
Bleu Oleander: yes many suggested more art :)
Bruce Mowbray: maybe some really unique and creative project.
    arabella Ella: such as?
Bruce Mowbray: These are what gives PaB its "flame," for me.
    Bleu Oleander: for me too
Bruce Mowbray: Well, just for an example.
Bruce Mowbray: I am ready a really, really good book right now.
    Bleu Oleander: hey Aggers
    arabella Ella: Hiya Aggers!
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello Ara :)
    Bleu Oleander: yes?
Bruce Mowbray: It is a philosophical argument --
Agatha Macbeth: Good to see you
    --BELL--
arabella Ella: what is the book called Brucie?
    Agatha Macbeth waves
Bruce Mowbray: but brilliantly written -- FUN-written!
arabella Ella: Lovely to see you too Aggers!
Bruce Mowbray: on the thesis that
    Zon Kwan: hi Agatha
Bruce Mowbray: THIS IS THE BEST OF ALL POSSIBLE WORLDS.
Bruce Mowbray: And, I would LOVE to lead a theme session on that book when I finish it...
    Bruce Mowbray: The book:
arabella Ella: go on please say more ...
    Bruce Mowbray: "Hating Perfection"
Bruce Mowbray: -- " a subtle search for the best possible world"
Bruce Mowbray: by John F. Williams.
    arabella Ella: intruiging
Bruce Mowbray: I will find a link for you, if I can.
    Bruce Mowbray: http://www.amazon.com/Hating-Perfect.../dp/1591027322
    Bruce Mowbray: Heya, aggers!
Bruce Mowbray: (sry, folks -- I was looking down and totally missed that 'drop')
Bruce Mowbray: My speakers don't seem to be working, either....
    Agatha Macbeth: Aww
Agatha Macbeth: Guess you'd need to find perfection before you start hating it
    Bleu Oleander: LOL
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
arabella Ella: perfection sure ain't normal or easy to find ... and anyway what is perfection?
    Bleu Oleander: exactly
Zon Kwan: no, if you find it, you are done
    Agatha Macbeth: Hm
Bruce Mowbray: Although the Amazon reviews of the book are mostly negative -- scathingly negative, in fact,
Bleu Oleander: would we even know it if we found it?
Bruce Mowbray: I am finding it one of the most fascinating books I've ever read.
Bleu Oleander: in what way Bruce?
arabella Ella: would we all agree on what perfection really is all about?
Bruce Mowbray: It is delightful reading.
    Zon Kwan: an illusion
    Bruce Mowbray: FUN reading.
arabella Ella: or do we have different perceptions of perfection?
    Bleu Oleander: I think so
Bruce Mowbray: and the author's arguments are pristine,
    Bruce Mowbray: exact,
    Bruce Mowbray: very well stated,
    Bruce Mowbray: profound,
arabella Ella: could you share his or her main claims?
Bruce Mowbray: and a stimulous of much thought.
Bruce Mowbray: His point is all about SUBTLETY.
    Bruce Mowbray: stimulus*
Bruce Mowbray: This seems to tie in very well with PaB's "Appreciation"
Bruce Mowbray: What is it we "appreciate" but subtlety, after all?
Bruce Mowbray: Appreciating the appearance of presence..
Bruce Mowbray: mean, for me, anyway,
Bruce Mowbray: appreciating the infinity of subtleties that the presence (the appearance of it) offers.
Bleu Oleander: how did you find his book?
Bleu Oleander: how we find books is interesting
Bruce Mowbray: No other world (the author's thesis) offers that sort of subtlety.
    arabella Ella: yes
Bruce Mowbray: I found it while imn Chicago two weeks ago.
Bruce Mowbray: I had lost the book I was carrying with me,
    arabella Ella: browsing?
Bruce Mowbray: wanted to find another..
Bruce Mowbray: went to a bookstore and found this one.
    Bruce Mowbray: PERFECT!
    Bruce Mowbray: \ha ha ha!
Bruce Mowbray: and that's partly what the book is about.
Bleu Oleander: with fewer books stores ... hard to do these days
arabella Ella: could you perhaps share an example of subtelty please?
Bruce Mowbray: It is NOT "perfect" but it is the best possible.
    Agatha Macbeth: Sera QT
    Bruce Mowbray: kk,
Bruce Mowbray: A spider (one of the book's metaphors)
    Qt Core: Hi all!
    Bleu Oleander: hi Qt
Bruce Mowbray: has a very unsubtle world.
    arabella Ella: Ciao QT!
Bruce Mowbray: The spider does not make comparisons.
Bruce Mowbray: If its web gets destroyed,
Bruce Mowbray: he builds another and another and another...
    Zon Kwan: hi Qt
Agatha Macbeth: It just says 'oh crap!'
    Bleu Oleander: hehe
    Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Qt.
Bruce Mowbray: Human, on the other hand,
Bruce Mowbray: are makers of nearly infinite comparisons.
Bruce Mowbray: We compare EVERYTHING to EVERYTHING.
Zon Kwan: is perfection kind of judgement?
Bleu Oleander: I've heard a lot of "oh craps" from humans too
Bruce Mowbray: in subtler and subtler degrees.
Agatha Macbeth: Or it gets inspiration from Robert Bruce and builds another one
Bruce Mowbray: The arugument of the book is that THAT propensity and capacity...
Bruce Mowbray: makes THIS the best possible world.
Bleu Oleander: next one is usually better for me
Bruce Mowbray: and the entire cosmos has conspired from the Big Bang on...
Bruce Mowbray: to make it so.
    Bruce Mowbray: The next one?
    Bruce Mowbray: You mean, Heaven?
    Bruce Mowbray: or Hell?
Bruce Mowbray: Neither of those has the subtlety of this world.
Bleu Oleander: next one being the one after the "oh crap" one :)
    Agatha Macbeth nods
    Bleu Oleander: like with paintings
arabella Ella: but does he not have to 'fall into the trap' of comparing possible worlds to arrive at his claim that THIS is the best possible world?
Bleu Oleander: how could you compare?
    arabella Ella: you cant
Bruce Mowbray: Comparing world is not a trap..
    Bleu Oleander: right
Bruce Mowbray: It is what we do best.
    Bruce Mowbray: worlds*
arabella Ella: and we dont have any other worlds to compare ours to, except for our imagination
Bruce Mowbray: every every monent: a new world to be compared with all previous ones.
    Agatha Macbeth: There is that
    --BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: My perceptions compared to yours . . . and multiply that times all the subtleties of all humans on the planet -- and all who ever lived...
Bruce Mowbray: THAT's a LOT of WORLDS!
Bruce Mowbray: ooops. sry. another drop.
    Bruce Mowbray: (no sounds)
Agatha Macbeth: The red ring is a clue Brucie <chortle>
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Bruce Mowbray: When I am typing, I have to look at the keyboard -- so can;t see the red ring.
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh dear
Bruce Mowbray: (but this IS the best of all possibles... ha ha ha!)
    arabella Ella: what red ring?
Agatha Macbeth: Boxy's ring, around the pavilion
Bruce Mowbray: It surrounds the outside of the area, ara.
    Bleu Oleander: its faded now
Bleu Oleander: but gets bright red during the pauses
arabella Ella: oh i 'll have to look out for it :)
Bruce Mowbray: It becomes bright red during drops.
arabella Ella: is boxy back then?
    Bruce Mowbray: snapperoo!
Agatha Macbeth: Shows how long you were away :p
Bleu Oleander: nope just as PaB tech
    Agatha Macbeth: Sadly not :(
Bleu Oleander: miss his voice in the mix
arabella Ella: regretfully been away for too long :(
arabella Ella: yes I miss Boxy too!
    Agatha Macbeth nods sadly
Bleu Oleander: all the PaB voices are fun to have in the group!
    Agatha Macbeth: Yep
    arabella Ella nods
    Bruce Mowbray: also nods.
arabella Ella: and what about Pema and Storm and Stim? Have they been around at all recently?
    Bruce Mowbray: nope.
Bruce Mowbray: storm has, but not the others.
    arabella Ella: Owwww
    Agatha Macbeth: Saw Stromy yesterday
Bruce Mowbray: Storm was at yesterday's Guardians' meeting.
Agatha Macbeth: He still does his session
    Bruce Mowbray: yeppers.
    arabella Ella: great news indeed!
Agatha Macbeth: But Pema not recently and Stim not for ages
arabella Ella: Pema sent a message for the anniversary didn't he?
    Agatha Macbeth: Think so yes
Bruce Mowbray: nope, I've not seen Stim since I met him in RL - in Nova Scotia... 2011, I think it was.
    arabella Ella: what a pity!
    Bruce Mowbray: nods, agrees.
    Bleu Oleander: busy lives
arabella Ella: Message to Bleu as feedback - they had all contributed so much!
Agatha Macbeth: Yes they certainly stimulate
    Zon Kwan: waves perfectly
arabella Ella: and I feel I learnt so much from them too!
    Bleu Oleander: yes!
    Agatha Macbeth: Perfect bye Zon
    Bleu Oleander: bye Zon
Bruce Mowbray: I don't know if others know this, but Stim was the "real" author of TSK.
arabella Ella: but I suppost a group like this is awfully difficult to sustain over such a long period of time
arabella Ella: to motivate us too
Agatha Macbeth: True, but here we are
    arabella Ella: yes :)
Bleu Oleander: 6 years is a long time
arabella Ella: it is probably one of the oldest SL communities if not the oldest!
Bruce Mowbray: Sustaining a group like PaB requires a lot of folks willing to keep the fire's embers burning... blowing on them from time to time.
    arabella Ella: exactly
    Bleu Oleander: indeed
    Agatha Macbeth: One of definitely
Bruce Mowbray: It's not really a group for spectators... or at least not a majority of spectators.
Bruce Mowbray: It needs persons willing to stick their necks out a bit,
Bruce Mowbray: if you get my meaning.
    arabella Ella nods
    Bleu Oleander: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Play as giraffe
    Bleu Oleander: lol
    Bruce Mowbray: yes, giraffes rule!
    arabella Ella: motivated individuals
Agatha Macbeth: Sun gets them visiting her I think
    arabella Ella: cool
    Bleu Oleander: that Sunji !
    Agatha Macbeth: Yeh
Agatha Macbeth: Just imagine a giraffe sticking its head through the window
    arabella Ella: LOL
    arabella Ella: thru the pond
    Bruce Mowbray: :)----------------------------------------<<
    Agatha Macbeth: Careful Brucie
    Bruce Mowbray: :)
Bruce Mowbray: [still no sounds whatsoever... wonder what I'm doing wrong]
Agatha Macbeth: You know what happens when you laugh too loud
arabella Ella: we can hear you
arabella Ella: and u gotta be careful with darling Blubbie too!
Bruce Mowbray: but I can't hear my own laughter!
Agatha Macbeth: Have you checked prefs Bruce?
    Bruce Mowbray: I shall...
Agatha Macbeth: Failing that, be sure your speakers are turned on:p
Bleu Oleander: failing that don't talk hehe
    Agatha Macbeth: That too
    arabella Ella: or laugh
Agatha Macbeth: Fatal when Brucie laughs
    arabella Ella: LOL
Agatha Macbeth: We lose him under the fountain
    arabella Ella: ouch
Bruce Mowbray: still nothing. everything turned on max.
    Bleu Oleander: death by fountain
Bruce Mowbray: everything open and running, but no sounds.
Agatha Macbeth: You're on speakers tho strangely
Qt Core: i have sound but it is late by several seconds
Agatha Macbeth: I can hear the birds and typing
    arabella Ella: me too
    --BELL--
    Agatha Macbeth: (and the bell)
Bruce Mowbray: I can't even hear the birds -- or the typing.
Bruce Mowbray: [there is the red ring, ara!]
Bleu Oleander: (there's the ring Ara)
    Bruce Mowbray: snap!
    Bleu Oleander: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: (snap)
    arabella Ella whispers ... yeah!!!
    Bruce Mowbray: ha ha!
arabella Ella: pink for me but honestly I never noticed it before today!
Agatha Macbeth: Does it still tell the weather and stuff?
Bleu Oleander: not sure how long its been here?
Agatha Macbeth: Oh about two years at least
Agatha Macbeth: Let's see if I can still sit on it</chortle>

    Bleu Oleander: yes
    Agatha Macbeth: The magic roundabout
    arabella Ella: wow! cool!
    Bleu Oleander: wow fun!
Agatha Macbeth: If you clicked on it it would tell you stuff
Agatha Macbeth: But that seems to have gone sadly
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe Alf took it out
Bleu Oleander: does it move during the pauses too?
    Agatha Macbeth: Hm don't remember
Bruce Mowbray: I don't think it moves during the drops.
Bleu Oleander: ok I like this
    Bleu Oleander: R
arabella Ella: I'm afraid I must go but lovely to see you all here today! Hugs to all! Bye for now!

Bruce Mowbray: as Woody Allen put it: "The cosmos and I are two."
Agatha Macbeth: Well this a lot more sedate than onigokko
    Bleu Oleander: nice kinda dreamy
    Agatha Macbeth: Hm
Bruce Mowbray: slower means better able to observe and appreciate the subtleties.
Bleu Oleander: might be my new fav fountain seat
    Bruce Mowbray: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Good eh
Bruce Mowbray: Imagine if you a giraffe riding this thing.
Bruce Mowbray: You could see wayyyyy up there to the upper levels.
    Agatha Macbeth: Umm...no
    Bruce Mowbray: all around, too.
Agatha Macbeth: My neck isn't long enough
Bruce Mowbray: that's cuz you're not a giraffe, silly!
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah of course
    Bruce Mowbray: [still, no sounds]
