2014.06.05 07:00 - "In this last of meeting places"

The Guardian for this meeting was Storm Nordwind. The comments are by Storm Nordwind.
The title is a line from "The Hollow Men", by T.S.Eliot.

    Anniversary!

    Adams Rubble: Hello Storm :)
    Storm Nordwind smiles
Storm Nordwind: Hello Adams! Is it really that time of year so soon? :)
    Adams Rubble: :)
    Adams Rubble: yes
    Storm Nordwind: Wow.
Adams Rubble: besides, this is the third session I attended this week :)
Adams Rubble: I have been hearing people have not been coming
Storm Nordwind: yes, that is true. This is normally a silent session nowadays, apart from last week when Agatha and Riddle came.
Storm Nordwind: Though I think attendance overall is now sparse.

    Passé.

Adams Rubble: I feel it has much to do with SL
    Storm Nordwind: Oh?
Adams Rubble: Since they mucked around with the educational discount,
Adams Rubble: there is not the same interest
Storm Nordwind: Hmm... that could have an effect.
Adams Rubble: It used to be we could have two or three new people show up at a session
Storm Nordwind: Although do the two groups of people overlap that much?
Adams Rubble: I think the motivation for coming into SL would have an effect
Adams Rubble: people are still coming but with different interests
Storm Nordwind: And SL is a little passé for the younger crowd, or so I suspect
Adams Rubble: it seems to have peaked for them
Storm Nordwind searches for the acute accent on his keyboard, but doesn't find it
Adams Rubble: It is wonderful that the core of PaB has held together for so long though
Storm Nordwind: A whole new generation has been educated to accept themed story games where most of the work is done for them and for which they'll need to purchase more and more downloadable content or entirely new games. Open-ended create-your-own stuff is not a profitable concern for companies.
    Adams Rubble agrees
Adams Rubble: It is hard to explain to students
Adams Rubble: and not so much to show them any more
Storm Nordwind: The pioneering days of hipster content creators are long gone. In fact I came in at the end of that, and that was 2006.
Adams Rubble: Of course i was thinking of architecture. hehe
Storm Nordwind: Actually, so was I, but in a rather more whimsical way!
    Adams Rubble: :)

    Exploring.

Adams Rubble: I am so indebted to PaB for all I have learned
Storm Nordwind: It has indeed been a worthwhile ride.
Adams Rubble: There is nothing like it in SL or RL
Adams Rubble: with the exploratory emphasis
Storm Nordwind: Ah... well those were the valuable times for me. I don't feel that so much anymore, sadly.
Adams Rubble: I picked that up from the questionnaires
    --BELL--
    Storm Nordwind: Welcome Riddle!
    Riddle Sideways: Hello good friends
Adams Rubble: hello Riddle. Much shorter time seeing you this time
    Adams Rubble: :)
    Riddle Sideways: :)
Adams Rubble: I am still exploring in my own practices
Riddle Sideways: just 2 days this time :)
    Adams Rubble: :)
    Storm Nordwind smiles

The C word. Times six. And Shantideva.

Storm Nordwind: So what draws you to come and sit with this grumpy old man? Obviously, i suspect, the delightful young lady at his side? :)
    Riddle Sideways: grumpy?
    Adams Rubble chuckles
Storm Nordwind: Well, I think that was a preemptive strike.
Storm Nordwind: I can be a crabby, crotchety, choleric, crusty, crosspatchy curmudgeon at times. ;)
Storm Nordwind: So I thought I'd say it first! :)
Adams Rubble: well, I would not have stayed at paB if I hadn;t had such a wonderful introduction to it
Riddle Sideways: all the C words
Storm Nordwind: Adams, you are so kind. You have given back far more, and have always done so.
Storm Nordwind: Yes Riddle, I noticed that!
Adams Rubble: I am still reading Shantideva like i was last year
Adams Rubble: It still seems like it is totally new
Storm Nordwind: First pass? Or rereading? Or dipping in?
Adams Rubble: I am working through a commentary now, trying to finish it up but it is slow going
    Storm Nordwind nods
    Adams Rubble: yeshe Geshe Tobden
Storm Nordwind: If you were to recommend it to someone else, how would you summarize it for them?
Adams Rubble: The baby steps needed to make one more open to helping others?
Adams Rubble: with lots of other stuff thrown in
Storm Nordwind smiles and then laughs
Storm Nordwind: It never goes out of fashion.
Storm Nordwind: And yet, whenever people discover that sort of thing, it's so often a revelation.
    Adams Rubble nods
Storm Nordwind: Like that Thai video I think someone posted. :)
Adams Rubble: Shantideva can be a crabby, crotchety, choleric, crusty, crosspatchy curmudgeon at times
Storm Nordwind: Sometimes students need a little contrast! ;)
Adams Rubble: not to make any comparisons
Adams Rubble: Good to look at oneself from different directions
    Storm Nordwind nods and smiles
    Adams Rubble: and others too
Storm Nordwind: habitual thinking has its pros and cons
    Adams Rubble: :)
    --BELL--

Long past the date on the can.

Adams Rubble: Getting back to PaB for a second, Pema always thought it would last three years and I remember thinking that was impossible; I was thinking of committing a couple of weeks or maybe a summer
Storm Nordwind: Yes. I found an email from you saying exactly that. He said that to me too during the first year, 2008.
Riddle Sideways: can't remember anybody saynig when it would be over
Adams Rubble: Wow about the email (Letters from Rubble's pile)
Riddle Sideways: a most wonderful blog
Adams Rubble: like reading a telephone book :)
    Riddle Sideways: all those codes
    Storm Nordwind: ah yes!
Storm Nordwind: I remember that well, and wondering where they were going to end.
Storm Nordwind: Nowadays you would use hashtags of course ;)
Adams Rubble: not with a bang but a whimper
    Adams Rubble: :)
Storm Nordwind leafs through his Eliot
Riddle Sideways: maybe because this place is so nice to sit quietly in
Riddle Sideways: not enough door to close and lock
Adams Rubble: I think it is great that you have found that
Storm Nordwind: I remember how some didn't like it, not feeling cozy enough for them.
Adams Rubble: There were some big crowds here at times
Storm Nordwind: Now three seems a crowd! ;)
Riddle Sideways: still comes back to how you look at it
    Storm Nordwind nods and smiles
Adams Rubble was never comfortable in the big crowds
Adams Rubble: the conversation went in so many directions :)
Storm Nordwind: It did. Hard to keep up sometimes.
    Adams Rubble: yes
    --BELL--
Adams Rubble: especially for us slow thinkers
    Riddle Sideways: yep
Storm Nordwind: and even more so for we slow typers!
    Riddle Sideways: yep

"In this last of meeting places"

Riddle Sideways: btw - 49 refs to Eliot in logs. Some right in the titles
    Adams Rubble: :)
    Storm Nordwind: Oh!
Adams Rubble wonders how many ended in whimper
    Riddle Sideways: lol
Riddle Sideways: wondering who is most quoted
Riddle Sideways: now wondering what that query statement would look like
Storm Nordwind: "Life itself is a quotation." (Jorge Luis Borges)
    Riddle Sideways: victor
    Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble thinks about Being Seeing PaB in the pavilion
Storm Nordwind: We are very small.
    Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: yes but together while miles apart

    Dreaming...

Riddle Sideways: was just lost in logs (like lost in youTube) and seeing "You Dreaming, Being Dreaming"
Adams Rubble thinks of Vishnu Dreaming the world
Riddle Sideways: noticed that the ghost pavillion (history of PaB) is gone
Adams Rubble does not know what that is
Storm Nordwind: Perhaps it was a dream
    Riddle Sideways: probably
Storm Nordwind: and now it is morning
    Riddle Sideways: is it?
    Adams Rubble sighs
Riddle Sideways: Dreaming that eyes are open
Storm Nordwind: We wake, and we blunder around the world, doing everything needed to prepare us for more dreams.
Adams Rubble: Maxine would like that
Adams Rubble: great advertisement for her session
Riddle Sideways: tommorrow, today's supposed wakefulness will be known as dreaming
    Storm Nordwind: haha!
    Adams Rubble: :) Riddle

    Giving thanks.

Storm Nordwind: My dear friends, I must not keep my doctor waiting, so I must bid you both adieu. And thank you for sitting with me. :))
    --BELL--
Adams Rubble: It was nice seeing both of you
Adams Rubble: And thanks for 6 years Storm
    Storm Nordwind: My great pleasure!
Adams Rubble: bye everyone, have a good day
    Riddle Sideways: bye
    Riddle Sideways: and thanks
    Adams Rubble: thank you

From bird song and the sighing of the trees,

From shafts of light and from the sky itself,

May living beings, each and every one,

Perceive the constant sound of Dharma.
