2010.09.16 19:00 - Let my senses feel

The Guardian for this meeting was stevenaia Michinaga. The comments are by stevenaia Michinaga.

I arrived a few minutes late not realizing that Paradise was away and no one was hosting, perhaps I had agreed to it and didn't remember. PralineBarjowski Ghost, Rayah Slade, friends who Calvino invited, were there along with Alfred Kelberry who started the conversation which was not recorded as no guardian was present to begin the recording.  druth Vlodovic arrived soon after I did.  I began the usual welcomes, introductions, handing out of notecard and asking permissions for recording, explaining protocols of the GOC, the typical host of Guardians tasks. :)

Later Eos, Lucinda Lavender and Calvino  arrived .

    Alfred Kelberry: oh, steve!
Alfred Kelberry: steve, please welcome our 2 new pabers :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: are you the master of this session ?
    stevenaia Michinaga: hi
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: hello stevenaia ;-)
stevenaia Michinaga: no, but I can fill in,
Alfred Kelberry: steve will be able to explain the autologging
stevenaia Michinaga: sorry I am late then
    --BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, during the regular sessions we record out conversations and psot them to the group's Wiki, is that ok?
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: yes
    stevenaia Michinaga: post
    stevenaia Michinaga: thanks Praline
    Rayah Slade: yes of course
    stevenaia Michinaga: thanks Rayah
stevenaia Michinaga: and thanks for holding their attention ALfred
Alfred Kelberry: i think they wanted to know how to turn it on/off?
Alfred Kelberry: I've just got here myself, steve :)
stevenaia Michinaga: smiles, I can do that if the conversation gets out of hand
stevenaia Michinaga: I think it turns off automatically after an hour if no guardian arrives, we do the log posting to the Wiki, I have a notecard here somewhere I will give you
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello druth
    druth Vlodovic: um, thanks
PralineBarjowski Ghost: oh its ok about the system ;-)
    Alfred Kelberry: oi, druth
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: thank you stevenaia
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: hello Druth
    druth Vlodovic: hey all :)
stevenaia Michinaga: this is the abridged version of why we are here
stevenaia Michinaga: although we constantly ask ourselves that ever same question
PralineBarjowski Ghost: yes, thank you ;-)
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://wiki.playasbeing.org
stevenaia Michinaga: this is the group's website
druth Vlodovic: how many are new?
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: thank you stevenaia
    stevenaia Michinaga: Praline and Rayah
    druth Vlodovic: welcome :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: thank you Druth ;-)
stevenaia Michinaga: we meet 4 times a day for an hour or so, at 1 and 7 SLT
Alfred Kelberry: i read that in a deep zazen, a person breathes only 2-3 times a minute. has anyone experienced that? :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: yes when you practice yoga you feel it
stevenaia Michinaga: I do not do Buddhist meditation, but when I do Tai Chi, the breaths can be slow and deep
    Alfred Kelberry: nice :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: you even try to modify this pace
PralineBarjowski Ghost: yes in yoga its the same you can breath very slowly and deeply , one breath per mn is possible
stevenaia Michinaga: it seems to affect your sense of time, time slows as breathing slows
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: soon, time does not matter
PralineBarjowski Ghost: yes time is just a convention ;-)
stevenaia Michinaga: one that permeates much
    Alfred Kelberry: eos :)
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: hi Eos
    stevenaia Michinaga: Hello Eos
    druth Vlodovic: hey eos
Eos Amaterasu: HI Alfred, Stevenaia, Praline, druth, Rayah
Alfred Kelberry: eos, aren't you a canon fan by chance? :)
    Eos Amaterasu: Kuan Yin?
Alfred Kelberry: oh, sorry, i meant slr cameras line by canon inc.
    --BELL--
    stevenaia Michinaga: grins
Eos Amaterasu: that name actually derives from Kannon - --- Kuan Yi
Alfred Kelberry: hmm, i read about the origin, but i forgot :)
Eos Amaterasu: Owls give a hoot
stevenaia Michinaga: so what brought you to this place Praline?
PralineBarjowski Ghost: something about my day ? the fact to be here is something strange for me ;-)
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: i met calvino
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: and was curious about what he was telling about his hud
PralineBarjowski Ghost: did some search on line
stevenaia Michinaga: yes is he busy here quite often
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: find chats recorded
PralineBarjowski Ghost: and earlier, Rayah i think , we share the same nosy thing, invite me to come for this session
    Rayah Slade: yes..
    Alfred Kelberry: neat :)
Rayah Slade: I keep hearing about Play as Being.. first from Arisia
PralineBarjowski Ghost: so i m just feeling the space, the place , you all ;-)
Rayah Slade: then from Calvino so i decided to come and check it out
PralineBarjowski Ghost: let my senses feel
Alfred Kelberry: oh... i forgot to mention my zen audio stream :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: and feel me as a listener ;-)
    Alfred Kelberry: http://t.xalan.org:8000/zen
PralineBarjowski Ghost: oh thank you Alfred
Alfred Kelberry: thank you for sharing, praline :)
stevenaia Michinaga: it is a rather diverse group, the conversations can me light or deep depending, as you say , the what each of us sense
Eos Amaterasu: RE [19:38] PralineBarjowski Ghost: let my senses feel.....
Eos Amaterasu: that's a great approach
Eos Amaterasu: we try to take a 1st person, experiential approach
Eos Amaterasu: to what would otherwise be purely philosophical questions
stevenaia Michinaga: that link does not play for me, what was it?
Alfred Kelberry: it's like a radio online, steve. you can play it in winamp or media player.
Eos Amaterasu: for example, attend to what my senses feel "" would be a good framing for the upcoming 90 seconds pause
Eos Amaterasu: drop everything, let everything be in your quivering perceptions
Eos Amaterasu: and then we discuss what we experience
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: ツ
stevenaia Michinaga: always surprising what "fills in" behind the "drop everything"
    stevenaia Michinaga: *behind
    --BELL--
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: so eos what is your experience of " drop everything ..." ?
Alfred Kelberry: *opens his eyes and smiles seeing you all*
Eos Amaterasu: so what filled in?
Eos Amaterasu: dropping a bit of my internal following every little thing
Eos Amaterasu: allows things in general to brighten up
Rayah Slade: a feeling of being lost
Eos Amaterasu: to just be in their own space
PralineBarjowski Ghost: all my senses are in alert
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: time is floating
Eos Amaterasu: Can you say more about feeling of being lost, Rayah?
Eos Amaterasu: I sometimes experience high alert as a kind of panic
Eos Amaterasu: panic from having let go - ack!
PralineBarjowski Ghost: it can be a kind of panic but not only that
Alfred Kelberry: i've found a bit of stillness and it was beautiful :)
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
    Eos Amaterasu asks, where? where?
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: ;-)
Alfred Kelberry: um, it just appeared :)
Rayah Slade: Im trying to connect and not really understanding .. perhaps its just new to me..
Eos Amaterasu: We can do it again in 9 minutes
Eos Amaterasu: Or now, for that matter.
Eos Amaterasu: Just relax, stay open, don't follow any thoughts or perceptions, don't push them away either
Alfred Kelberry: eos, as soon as my tension left... and i thought i was relaxed :) 90 minutes helped me realized that i sensed wrong :)
Rayah Slade: okay I just came from Yoga so im pretty relaxed.
    Alfred Kelberry: steve :)
    Eos Amaterasu: wb, steve
    stevenaia Michinaga: thx
Eos Amaterasu: now sure I understand, Alfred ("90 minutes helped me realized that i sensed wrong :)")
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: wb stevenaia
Alfred Kelberry: oh, interesting typo - minutes :)
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: ツ
Alfred Kelberry: it did feel slow to me
Alfred Kelberry: um, no... not slow
    Eos Amaterasu: seconds, eh
    Alfred Kelberry: prolonged
    Alfred Kelberry: i can't grasp pema's 9 seconds yet though :)
Eos Amaterasu: space cannot be grasped, Alfred :-)
Alfred Kelberry: maybe i should give it a name instead of "9 seconds" that makes you think of time and how quick it is
    Alfred Kelberry: eos :)
    Eos Amaterasu: "the gap", maybe?
Alfred Kelberry: mind the gap :)
Eos Amaterasu: the pause, the drop, the suspension, the suspense
    Eos Amaterasu: the underground
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
    Alfred Kelberry: thank you, eos
Rayah Slade: I think that pretty much summed up that lost feeling
Alfred Kelberry: i like "pause". it starts with p like pema as well :)
stevenaia Michinaga: viewer problems tonight it would seem
Eos Amaterasu: you got it, Rayah!
Eos Amaterasu: you're flickering in and out of existence, stevenaia
stevenaia Michinaga: sounds like my week
    Alfred Kelberry: steve, sl problems?
Eos Amaterasu: 90 secs coming up
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, sl problems too
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
    Alfred Kelberry: viewer 2.0?
    --BELL--
    stevenaia Michinaga: Phoenix
    Alfred Kelberry: ah...
Eos Amaterasu: How was it this time,Rayah?
    Rayah Slade: relaxed
Alfred Kelberry: um, i was interrupted in rl :)
Rayah Slade: mmmm more aware of myself
Alfred Kelberry: it was a nice surprise and i enjoyed it
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Lucinda
    Alfred Kelberry: oi, luci
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: :-) alfred
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Luci
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: hi Lucinda
Lucinda Lavender: I have but one question...
Lucinda Lavender: if you were going to dry plums would you cut them in 4ths or halves...
Alfred Kelberry: also, i've had a wish for a cup of green tea, which i'm going to make right now :)
Eos Amaterasu thinks that these are the sorts of questions people fight wars over
Alfred Kelberry: luci, halves, i think
Alfred Kelberry: twice less cuts :)
Lucinda Lavender: ok...they are big and juicy and I was just curious...
Alfred Kelberry: ok, i want some :)
Lucinda Lavender: wish I could send some out to you all..
    Alfred Kelberry: thank you :)
stevenaia Michinaga: " Choose your fruit of a nice shape, and good size, cut them in halves, lay them on a ... an hour's time take them out, and place the plums one by one on glass plates to dry."
Alfred Kelberry: eos, good note about the wars :)
Eos Amaterasu needs to go to bed - good night all!
    stevenaia Michinaga: night Eos
Rayah Slade: yes i agree it was a good note
    Alfred Kelberry: night, eos :)
    Lucinda Lavender: lovely...sleep well:)
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: good night eos
    Rayah Slade: thank you Eos
Eos Amaterasu: Thanks Rayah and Luci and Stevenaia and Alfred
Rayah Slade: i think i am understanding the practice..
stevenaia Michinaga: glad you joined us
Lucinda Lavender: I must go work on it now..:)thanks and good night all...
stevenaia Michinaga: enjoy your plums, Lucinda
    Lucinda Lavender: will do
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: night Lucinda
Lucinda Lavender: nice to meet you...
stevenaia Michinaga: that was a quick hour
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: can I answer any questions before I leave?
    Rayah Slade: nope. thankyou..
PralineBarjowski Ghost: Thank you stevenaia :-)
    Alfred Kelberry: oh, missed luci
stevenaia Michinaga: feel free to stick around or join us again
PralineBarjowski Ghost: i will do it , thank you ;-)
Rayah Slade: Thankyou.. I may try a few times .
PralineBarjowski Ghost: my senses are always in alert , want to know why ;-)
Alfred Kelberry: ok, gunpowder tea - just right for the plum cutting wars debate:)
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: always on alert sounds tense, is it, or is it invigorating?
PralineBarjowski Ghost: no, i dont feel tense, just very curious and attentive
    Alfred Kelberry: hmm, yes... curious
    --BELL--
PralineBarjowski Ghost: i use to be my own laboratory but i m alone in this practice , not usual for me this kind of "group version"
Alfred Kelberry: steve, i think it's like a taste of this tea... it alerts my senes and feels invigoratingly good :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I find when I "say" something to other than myself, it becomes more meaningful even to me
    stevenaia Michinaga: hi Calvino
    Calvino Rabeni: Hi Stevenaia:)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: yes Stevenaia , it is
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: hello Calvino ;-)
Calvino Rabeni: And Raya, Praline - visitors from Perfect Paradise - nice to see you here :)
Alfred Kelberry: steve, a good note... i think maybe it's due to more people invested senses in it by reading
    Alfred Kelberry: cal! :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: thank you Calvino ;-)
    Rayah Slade: Thankyou Calvino..
    stevenaia Michinaga: Perfect Paradise?
PralineBarjowski Ghost: feel nice to be there
Rayah Slade: I must admit I was curious
Rayah Slade: well in my book there is nothing perfect
PralineBarjowski Ghost: its an intentional community stevenaia
Rayah Slade: nor do I wish to achieve it.. but I love the people there
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
Alfred Kelberry: steve, is it similar to when you just write it down for yourself on paper?
PralineBarjowski Ghost: Paradise is basically perfect ;-)
stevenaia Michinaga: I will let you know when I begin to write things down
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: so perfect paradise is a kind of nonsense
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: willing nonsense maybe
PralineBarjowski Ghost: i dont know as well perfect paradise to talk about it ;-)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: i mean about the choice of the name
Calvino Rabeni: It's an actual virtual place :) an Island sim in SL as well as I think, a group ...
PralineBarjowski Ghost: yes , they think about a sustainability community possible, in which way ...
Rayah Slade: brb rl.. excuse one moment please
PralineBarjowski Ghost: how could be our future
Calvino Rabeni: The sim there is a nice SL hangout. Yesterday I was thinking, it would be cool to model an actual Transition Town, for educational purposes, with many realistic details
Calvino Rabeni: Something to inspire people to imagine their own town
Calvino Rabeni: Not sure what to show,
Calvino Rabeni: but we did a "fair" like that in Seattle
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: oh
Calvino Rabeni: It was laid out like a big House, with different rooms and displays about sustainability ideas in each room
Calvino Rabeni: A neighborhood group project in RL
PralineBarjowski Ghost: is there a website about it Calvino ?
Calvino Rabeni: BUT if it had been in SL we wouldn't have had to take it down at the end of the weekend ::)
Calvino Rabeni: Hmm, maybe some newspaper report lemme see ...
Alfred Kelberry: *taps the table and watches the tea cup tides* :)
Calvino Rabeni: hmmm, laggy laggy tonight ...
    Alfred Kelberry: *hugs cal* :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: i thank you Stevenia, Alfred, nice to meet you
    Calvino Rabeni: * Alfred
PralineBarjowski Ghost: i have to go,
    Calvino Rabeni: http://www.ravennablog.com/2010/08/22/planethome-a-sustainably-great-time/
PralineBarjowski Ghost: oh thank you Calvino
Alfred Kelberry: it was very nice to meet you, Praline :)
Calvino Rabeni: That describes the educational fair
PralineBarjowski Ghost: nice, i m very interesting in all the questions about the town
PralineBarjowski Ghost: the way to live in town
    --BELL--
Calvino Rabeni: Then there's a book and movie called "No Impact Man"
    Calvino Rabeni: http://www.amazon.com/No-Impact-Man-Adventures-Discoveries/dp/0312429835
PralineBarjowski Ghost: oh i will have a look on these urls , thank you dear Calvino ;-)
    Calvino Rabeni: Very welcome, Praline
PralineBarjowski Ghost: i will come back to let my senses appreciate :-))
    Calvino Rabeni: :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: hugs for you all and thank you for your nice welcome ;-)
    Calvino Rabeni: Take care :)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: have nice time ;-)
PralineBarjowski Ghost: i ll do it Calvino
    PralineBarjowski Ghost: :D
stevenaia Michinaga: sorry I was away
Calvino Rabeni is tempted to draw a palm tree with a magic marker on Alfred
stevenaia Michinaga: remember having such things done to me in my youth
    Alfred Kelberry: cal :)
Alfred Kelberry: sorry, i was away
Alfred Kelberry: palm tree sounds good :)
Calvino Rabeni: There used to be some hobo who would draw on railroad boxcars - a sketch of someone on a little desert island sleeping under a palm tree
Alfred Kelberry: with a sand shore and steve laying underneath :)
Calvino Rabeni: It was always surprising to see that same sketch on so many boxcars in different places
Alfred Kelberry: oh, i like it :)
Calvino Rabeni: It was before boxcars became the main grafitti art canvas in the US.
stevenaia Michinaga: time to sleep, night all, nice to meet you Rayah
    Calvino Rabeni: Night, Stevenaia
Alfred Kelberry: yes, i think i'm off, too
Calvino Rabeni: I guess I should go too - confess to be doing multitasking :)
Alfred Kelberry: hope to see you here often, rayah :)
    Alfred Kelberry: same here :)
    Alfred Kelberry: bye all
Calvino Rabeni: Bye Rayah, see you later :)
