The Guardian for this meeting was Lucinda Lavender. The comments are by Lucinda Lavender.

    Lucinda Lavender: morning Yaky....:)
    Lucinda Lavender: Yaku...
Yakuzza Lethecus: well yaky didn´t sound that bad either :P
    Lucinda Lavender: :) my typing...
Lucinda Lavender: fingers are cold from being outside feeding the chickens...
    --BELL--
Lucinda Lavender: shall warm up with more coffee
Yakuzza Lethecus: yes, i just got another cup as well
Yakuzza Lethecus: before i was in a pretty interesting and emotional session about homeschooling, that´s not allowed in germany btw
    Lucinda Lavender: Hi Eliza:)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Luci and Yaku
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey eliza
Lucinda Lavender: we are having coffee...
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Yakuzza Lethecus smiles
Yakuzza Lethecus: with milk in my case
    Yakuzza Lethecus: without sugar
Lucinda Lavender: no homeschooling in Germany...ah
Yakuzza Lethecus: well the guy who mainly spoke is a teacher himself going to do that in austria soon because he´s not pleased with the schoolsystem there
    Lucinda Lavender: nodding
Yakuzza Lethecus: the children talking about ipads on the schoolyard and in the school it´s like babytalk as he put it
Eliza Madrigal: People need to have ways to get around the system outside of just 'lots of money'
Eliza Madrigal: so I agree with homeschooling, even tried it
Eliza Madrigal: that said, I understand the limitatins, possibly better than someone looking from the outside
    Eliza Madrigal: *limitations
    Lucinda Lavender: limitations...an example?
Eliza Madrigal: ah, well for example yes there are social groups for homeschoolers but they can be heavily weighted with one ideology etc
Eliza Madrigal: it is difficult to maintain inclusive groups
    Lucinda Lavender: right...have imagined that
Eliza Madrigal: also, it does end up costing quite a bit to make sure bases you've never heard of are covered...
Yakuzza Lethecus: well, metaverses might have an impact on that as well
Eliza Madrigal: :) our kids surpass us
    Eliza Madrigal: agree Yaku
Eliza Madrigal: online, I had *wonderful* resources
Eliza Madrigal: and access to excellent conferences, etc
Yakuzza Lethecus: a french teacher sitting in france teaching children from all around the world while noone knows who is in which socio economic class
Eliza Madrigal: and, then there is the issue of someone has not to work, or to work from home, to be there with kids
    Lucinda Lavender: nodding
Yakuzza Lethecus: noone will care who is immigrant
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
    iwandertoo Resident: waves
Eliza Madrigal: Have you seen Kahn Academy?
Yakuzza Lethecus: the concept even ain´t exist
    Lucinda Lavender: hi Arch:)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: yes i think
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Arch and Susan :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey susan, arch and obs
    Lucinda Lavender: HI Susan:)
    Eliza Madrigal waves to obs
    Lucinda Lavender: hi Observerm
Eliza Madrigal: Kahn Academy is a Utube phenomenon... began with an uncle tutoring his neice I think... then she had to go home at a distance, so he started putting up short lessons
    Eliza Madrigal: mostly Math
Archmage Atlantis: There is a time when the observations are complete
    Lucinda Lavender: sounds interesting...
Eliza Madrigal: these short lessons caught on like wildfire, the simplicity of them... so now there is a whole system, etc
Archmage Atlantis: There is a time when the decision can be made
    Lucinda Lavender: very cool...
Eliza Madrigal: yes, the revolution of going at one's own pace
    Lucinda Lavender: Hi Bleu:)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bleu :)
    Bleu Oleander: hi everyone :)
    iwandertoo Resident: waves
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Riddle :)
    Riddle Sideways: Hi EveryBody
Lucinda Lavender: WE have been speaking of the options of homeschooling...and it limitations as well and benefits
    Lucinda Lavender: as well as...
    Lucinda Lavender: HI Riddle
Eliza Madrigal: I think having a taste of homeschooling is useful, because the kids then go into school with a sense of their learning being their own responsibility
    Lucinda Lavender: benefit...interesting word
Lucinda Lavender: yes I sure can see that...
Eliza Madrigal: but I guess that would depend on the message given. a teacher can give that message too
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Sharon
SophiaSharon Larnia: hi everyone, wow big crowd this morning :)
    iwandertoo Resident: waves
    Lucinda Lavender: true :)
    Bleu Oleander: hi Sharon
Archmage Atlantis: The circle is not complete
    Lucinda Lavender: :)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey bleu,ssl, riddle
    Lucinda Lavender: challenges in education...
    Bleu Oleander: hey Yaku
    --BELL--
Riddle Sideways: like any school, homeschooling depends on the teachers and the students: energy, skills, etc.
    Archmage Atlantis: silence
Lucinda Lavender: perhaps some children benefit from staying in a smaller circle to begin with and then socially expanding at a later time..can see that too.next pause I would ask what the first thing you notice is...
Archmage Atlantis: Thank you, m bell
Eliza Madrigal: agree.. think the 'knowing there are options' part is *most* important
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Lugh, ltns
    Lucinda Lavender: Hello Lugh:)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey lugh
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Lugh
    Bleu Oleander: hi Lugh

Archmage Atlantis: I talk to those here who are near 80
Lucinda Lavender: in 2L?Arch? just curious...
    Archmage Atlantis: Good answer Lugh
    SophiaSharon Larnia: (brb)
Eliza Madrigal: the maker of the 'waiting for superman' documentary starts off by driving by the public school he wants to believe in, to take his kids to a private school, and feeling guilty about it :) I did that with charter schools
Lucinda Lavender: noddding...have not seen it...
Lucinda Lavender: there was an interesting sound!
Eliza Madrigal: someone brought their inner elephant
Archmage Atlantis: That is a balance, I would take my children to the safe place
    Lucinda Lavender: :)))
    Riddle Sideways: not /me
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Xirana

    Xirana Oximoxi: hi Riddle:)
Eliza Madrigal: it is kind of a rorshack topic
    Lucinda Lavender: how so?
    Riddle Sideways: interesting
Riddle Sideways: what you see or what you look for
Eliza Madrigal: each person with their own experiences and paradigms, sees it in their own way
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Archmage Atlantis: I was tinking digeredoo, but rorchack works also
Eliza Madrigal: 'we see the world not as it is but as we are'
    Eliza Madrigal: hah Arch

    Archmage Atlantis: Hail, Eilza
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Lucinda Lavender: am trying to think...what was the first thing that excited me in school...
Archmage Atlantis: I can answer that, Lucinda, you began to see

Eliza Madrigal: yes I talk about it with some friends but it is rarely a long conversation
    Xirana Oximoxi: between us:)
Yakuzza Lethecus: yes, when i try to explain i usually end up in mmorpg addiction discussions, so i hardly talk about sl
    Sunshine Vayandar: hehe ;)
    Lucinda Lavender: ah
Sunshine Vayandar: it's like belonging to a secret cult
    --BELL--

    Lucinda Lavender: :)
Xirana Oximoxi: I think some people understand sl.. and other people will never do... at first I didnt'
Riddle Sideways: like any other subject, alas
Eliza Madrigal: sometimes what I like to do with rl friends, is to say 'wow I just came from this concert on a cliffside...." etc. and then wait a long time before filling in the background :) That way I get to paint a picture before they close off.
Bleu Oleander: interesting new book on virtual world "Infinite Reality" by Blascovish and Bailenson .... might help in talking about it :)
    Alfred Kelberry: meep!
    Lucinda Lavender: sounds interesting Bleu:)

    Riddle Sideways: :)
Xirana Oximoxi: but ty Riddle too... anyway:)
    Riddle Sideways: :)
Xirana Oximoxi: I don't understand the feelings one can have in SL
    Xirana Oximoxi: so near true
Lucinda Lavender: finding a place to play...
Xirana Oximoxi: and we don't have a lot of references about the other one
Riddle Sideways: ha, there is a "trailer" for the book... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYGaPPhqpdE
Xirana Oximoxi: and I'm still surprised about what Arch said one day... words are only 8% of human comunication
Sunshine Vayandar: today I went back to the SL university where I used to have my building school - they had a lecture about rainforests ...
Eliza Madrigal: I can only read the book if it doesn't play that music, hehe
Xirana Oximoxi: I think it may be more
Sunshine Vayandar: that reminded me how much can be done in SL
Riddle Sideways: yes, X am still processing that statement
Xirana Oximoxi: I may be oldfashioned... but it's the first time I see a trailer of a book:)
    Lucinda Lavender: Ha Eliza:)

Lucinda Lavender: I must go now but wish all the best...

    Sunshine Vayandar: ;)
    Sunshine Vayandar: interesting video
Eliza Madrigal: what is so strange, is that I seem to have a few friends who say 'I wish I could go to this kind of thing or that kind of thing' but they won't try a virtual avenue
Eliza Madrigal: they seem addicted to the wishing
Sunshine Vayandar: hmm yes I notice that a lot
Sunshine Vayandar: ppl have all these dreams
Sunshine Vayandar: but would never try and do something to get there
Bleu Oleander: people are hesitant to try new technology
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Eliza Madrigal: maybe it is intimidating...
Sunshine Vayandar: I was running my internet cafe for 10 years in this small town - and even after 10 years I saw so much resistance
Xirana Oximoxi: I've talked about it to a friend that is living a bad moment in her life... I think it can hekp her.. but she doesn't
Xirana Oximoxi: I feel I've learnt a lot of thinks in SL... about myself, and also about others
    Sunshine Vayandar: me too ...
Eliza Madrigal: have been thinking about your cafe and 'open learning' and the Indian cafe in Hungary, Sun...
    Sunshine Vayandar: ;)
Eliza Madrigal: like SL, the feeling of open sharing
Eliza Madrigal: lots of various education levels, skill sets, backgrounds, ages...
Sunshine Vayandar: yes I basically learnt about open source software and wanted to do the same in RL ....
Sunshine Vayandar: so the idea come from the net
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Sunshine Vayandar: such an open international environment
Eliza Madrigal: I like the idea that everything is already included even instructions in open source ... that's one of the first things I noticed about SL, people came here to be generous
    Sunshine Vayandar: hi Aph ;)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Aph :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: hi Aph
    Bleu Oleander: hi Aph
    iwandertoo Resident: waves
