The Guardian for this meeting was Bruce Mowbray. The comments are by Bruce Mowbray.

ElanVitalo: Hi, Raffi.
Bruce Mowbray: Welcome, Raffi.
Raffila Millgrove: Hey typist, bruce, elan etc. How goes it?
Bruce Mowbray: !
Bruce Mowbray: Enduring another winter storm here.
Bruce Mowbray: How goes it with you?
Raffila Millgrove: good weather over here in So Cal. wondering about rain or not for tomorrow's Academy Awards.
ElanVitalo nods.
Raffila Millgrove: the ladies of the house are serious fashionistas so we don't want any rain on the Red Carpet.
Bruce Mowbray: We have at least six inches of snow already on the ground. . . but now it's also raining, and freezing.
ElanVitalo nods. No rain on the red carpet.
Bruce Mowbray: or ice.
Bruce Mowbray: Do you have preferences for winners?
ElanVitalo: I do.
Raffila Millgrove: I love to garden and our weather has been crazy so my plants are totally confused and not happy.
ElanVitalo: I would imagine they are confused.
Raffila Millgrove: Oh.. who do you like to see winningn Elan?
ElanVitalo: I would like to see "The Grand Budapest Hotel" win best movie.
Bruce Mowbray nods enthusiastically, agrees.
Raffila Millgrove: yeah I actually saw it.. and loved it, but think it has no chances.
Raffila Millgrove sighs.
ElanVitalo: And I would like to see Benedict Cumberbatch win best actor... since Eddie Redmayne already got his best actors (well deserved).
Bruce Mowbray: i agree with you on that, Raffi.
Raffila Millgrove: we do a big deal where we get the ballots on all the awards, fill out ahead of time and keep track as the show goes forward. one has to be totally unemotional in choosing on the ballot or one will not win.
Bruce Mowbray: I'm afraid that "Boyhood" or "Birdman" will take most of them.
ElanVitalo: WOW! That sounds like FUN!
Raffila Millgrove: yeah. it is. it's those weird pesky short animation or sound editing etc.. that will determine who wins.
ElanVitalo: Do you also give prizes, Raffi?
Raffila Millgrove: sometimes we do.
ElanVitalo: :)
Raffila Millgrove: but since I usually win... depends on who is coming.
ElanVitalo: FUN!
Bruce Mowbray: I downloaded the score sheet, but I just keep track by myself.
Bruce Mowbray: I could find the file if you'd like a link.
Raffila Millgrove: that's ok. thanks Bruce.. but I like to chose from an array and look for one with real large print.
Raffila Millgrove: cause we got vision situations over here.
Bruce Mowbray: I have a pdf file somewhere...
Bruce Mowbray: but here's ABC's main page on it:
Bruce Mowbray: http://oscar.go.com/nominees?cid=osc...ement_cadillac
Raffila Millgrove: ty.
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I understand.
Bruce Mowbray: The PDF file can be adjusted for visual challenges...
Bruce Mowbray: I just can't find it at the moment...
Raffila Millgrove: I just enjoy the wandering around because I like to see... what various critics, bloggers etc are predicting.
Bruce Mowbray nods.
Bruce Mowbray: Have you already seen most of the movies, then?
Raffila Millgrove: and i pick up the ballot during those wanderings. it's also handy for winning.. to.. get the predictions on the difficult ones.
Raffila Millgrove: actually no.
Bruce Mowbray: I have seen almost all of them...
[ Here's the PDF file I couldn't find earlier: http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/87...rds_ballot.pdf]
--BELL--
Raffila Millgrove: haha. as i said. confusing yourself with the facts in this case.. like your own view of what you like.. will cause you problems in choosing the winners. I usually catch them on video. that's how i happen to see Budapest Hotel.. as it came out much earlier and is already in DVD. I did see An American Sniper.
Raffila Millgrove: so you don't like Birdman or Boyhood?
Raffila Millgrove: what'd you think about Sniper?
Bruce Mowbray: I thought that BIRDMAN was another dysfunctional soap opera... and I rather dislike being hit over the head with others' neuroses for two hours straight.
Bruce Mowbray: I did not see SNIPER.
Bruce Mowbray: although I like the actor very much. (Bradley Cooper)
Bruce Mowbray: (He was great in LIMITLESS.)
Raffila Millgrove: well i just loved the Grand Hotel .. and Sniper I admire it.. for acting/direction and a lot of technical stuff.
ElanVitalo: Oh me, TOO!
Bruce Mowbray: I really loved GRAND HOTEL.
Raffila Millgrove: i hate war movies which makes me wonder why I have 3 war movies on my personal top five list. it's kind of weird.
Bruce Mowbray: Hmmm. nods.
Bruce Mowbray: UNBROKEN?
Bruce Mowbray: i have that one but have yet to watch it. I also do not enjoy war movies.
Raffila Millgrove: i was droning on to my daughter about why i don't like war movies and she suddenly reminds me of my top movie list and i am dumbfounded.. that how can i not like them.. but i think they are so good i rank them that high. just weird.
Bruce Mowbray: A movie can have excellent qualities and still be about themes we don't care for.
Raffila Millgrove: i guess that is a good example of how you can....be of two minds.. hold conflicting values in your mind at once.
Raffila Millgrove: yeah.
Bruce Mowbray: One of the best of these [war movies] was THE BOOK THIEF, I felt.
Bruce Mowbray: (last year's movie.)
Raffila Millgrove: now i didn't see that. or know about Book Thief.
Raffila Millgrove: is it good?
Bruce Mowbray: REALLY a wonderful movie.
Bruce Mowbray: Well WELL worth watching.
Bruce Mowbray: I have a copy so i can watch it again and again.
Raffila Millgrove: wow really? I gotta put that on my Netflix queu (sp) wow i can't spell today. thanks for the recommend.
Bruce Mowbray: yw.
Bruce Mowbray: Of course, one of my all-time favorites is DEAR FRANKIE.
Raffila Millgrove: really?
Raffila Millgrove: what the heck. I can't remember that title.
Raffila Millgrove: did i see it? mmmm
Bruce Mowbray: If you haven't seen it, I'd highly recommend putting it on your Netflix queque also.
Bruce Mowbray: about a deaf Scottish boy...
Raffila Millgrove: haha. great.. you can't spell either. i feel better.
Bruce Mowbray: whose "pretend father" comes to visit.
Bruce Mowbray: queue*
Bruce Mowbray: sry.
Raffila Millgrove: interesting. ty for the recommends. i got them both on it.
Bruce Mowbray: DEAR FRANKIE was so good that my typist actually went to Scotland to see the exact location where it was filmed.
Bruce Mowbray: Eliza!
Bruce Mowbray: Storm!
Raffila Millgrove: omg really? wow .. that's dedication.
Raffila Millgrove: what was it like there?
ElanVitalo: Hello, Eliza and Storm. Sry , didn't see you arrive.
Bruce Mowbray: It was fantastic.
Raffila Millgrove: Hi Eliza, Hi Storm. having a pre-Academy Award chat.
Eliza Madrigal: Hey, all :) I'll be right back... going to remove my egg from the dome
Bruce Mowbray: kk. np.
Eliza Madrigal: sounds fun, see you soon
Storm Nordwind: I've only been here 6 or 7 minutes. No problem.
Bruce Mowbray: DEAR FRANKIE was filmed in Greenock... and also in Glasgow.
Raffila Millgrove: Bruce told me of two of his favorite films.. so I had to add to Netflix as he recommended highly.
Bruce Mowbray: (You won't regret it, Raffi.)
Raffila Millgrove: last few i got i disliked so much i sent back before finishing which is so rare for me as i usually check very carefully before ordering them.
Bruce Mowbray nods.
Bruce Mowbray: I also send back films before finishing them if I don't enjoy them.
Raffila Millgrove: yeah wow.. something i would never do when younger. same thing with books. i bail right out.. after a good skim shows me i won't like it. never did that when young, always eager to learn new things and finished anything I started. don't have time to waste anymore.
ElanVitalo is happy that Neil Patrick Harris will be hosting again.
Storm Nordwind: I have no idea of what's nominated this year. Probably wouldn't recognize the names anyway! ;-)
Raffila Millgrove: yeah. me too.
Bruce Mowbray: Me neither, Raffi.
Bruce Mowbray: Time seems to fly by the older i get.
Raffila Millgrove: he was featured with his home in Harlem, his husband and two kids in this month's Architectural Digest.. they are the cover story. Even my granddaughter who is only 15 mos liked the article. she loved their two dogs.
Bruce Mowbray: http://oscar.go.com/nominees?cid=osc...ement_cadillac
Raffila Millgrove: they have adopted twins. boy and girl and the brownstone they redid is so.. cool.
ElanVitalo: Yes, I agree!
Raffila Millgrove: pictures were interesting to us all.
ElanVitalo: Great.
Bruce Mowbray: wb, Eliza.
Eliza Madrigal: thanks!
Raffila Millgrove: they seem like such a happy family.. so i hope .. they are.. as they sure all have a beautiful home and dogs.
Bruce Mowbray: Our local weatherman (Chris Bradley - Channel 10 Columbus, OH) is also married to his partner and they also adopted two kids.
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Paradise! ltns
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Para!
--BELL--
Paradise Tennant: smiles and waves hello everyone :))
ElanVitalo: Heya, Paradise!
Storm Nordwind: Hi :)
Raffila Millgrove: hi Paradise. WB Eliza.
Eliza Madrigal: You are wearing an Academy worthy gown :)
Bruce Mowbray: I have NEVER before seen such a flurry of emails as I've seen today.
Raffila Millgrove: yes so pretty. we were just mentioning possibility of rain on red carpet..
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, Para's gown is delightful.
Raffila Millgrove: you could come and walk it!
Paradise Tennant: smiles thanks
Eliza Madrigal: It has been a while, but we've had other spurts of high email volume :)
Bruce Mowbray: I hope you're keeping track of the themes, Eliza.
Eliza Madrigal: none of this is going through the Working Group this time, so that gives us more to sort.
Bruce Mowbray: or maybe, keeping track of the "threads..."
Eliza Madrigal: Thanks to Bleu and Storm, I think I am. And thankful for those to fact check me
Eliza Madrigal: like Xiri, earlier
Bruce Mowbray nods, recalls.
Storm Nordwind: Maybe keep track of the threads in a wardrobe? ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: it would be quite a gown by this point
Eliza Madrigal: but don't let me sidetrack from discussion
Eliza Madrigal: I haven't seen many of the Oscar films
Bruce Mowbray: Raffi and I were talking about them.
Bruce Mowbray: I've watched almost all of them.
ElanVitalo nods, me too!
Eliza Madrigal: am a big Wes Anderson fan, so hoping Grand Budapest does well
ElanVitalo: YESSSSS!!!!!
Bruce Mowbray: Elan and I are rooting for GRAND BUDAPEST for Best Movie.
Eliza Madrigal: I would too, except that I haven't seen others to compare :))
Storm Nordwind has only heard of two, and has not seen either.
Bruce Mowbray: I have seen most of them. Take my word for it -- BUDAPEST is a WINNER!
Bruce Mowbray: (but not BIRDMAN or BOYHOOD... which, I'm really afraid will be the actual winners.)
Eliza Madrigal: keep meaning to see Boyhood
ElanVitalo: Also, Benedict Cumberbatch deserves a hearty nod for THE IMITATION GAME.
Bruce Mowbray nods, agrees.
Raffila Millgrove: excuse me folks. i have had nasty computer issues.. which finally resolved this morn.. so i need to afk before the guardian meet in order to catch up on all the new mail that came thru .
Bruce Mowbray: kk, bye for now, Raffi.
Eliza Madrigal: sigh... and haven't made it to that either! strange year as I usually see bunches
ElanVitalo: bye for now, Raffi.
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, okay Raffi
Eliza Madrigal: come to guardian session if you can
Bruce Mowbray really appreciates Storm's concise explanations (and graphics) or proposed lots in Bieup.
Eliza Madrigal: definitely
Eliza Madrigal: would be lost without those photos
Bruce Mowbray: nods and nods.
Bruce Mowbray: They give an excellent sense of options.
Eliza Madrigal: I've just given Para and Raffi notecards with the tentative list of names as part of groups/independent
ElanVitalo listens and listens.
Eliza Madrigal: I'm a little confused about the gap between the lines drawn and the beginning of the museum
Storm Nordwind: I merely drew things at the coordinates given to me
Paradise Tennant: Yes am happy to be on both lists I have some land I could contribute
Bruce Mowbray: Wow.
Eliza Madrigal: great, Para... so we are at about 15 people for the group
Storm Nordwind: The museum especially is tentative, in size, position and even whether it'll be there at all. Things may change.
Bruce Mowbray nods.
Bruce Mowbray: We seem to be about four months ahead of schedule, actually.
Bruce Mowbray: (which is GOOD!)
Storm Nordwind: Which means $800 ahead of schedule. :)
Paradise Tennant: how much space are we trying to assemble Storm ?
Bruce Mowbray: YESSSS!
ElanVitalo: No small pickins, that.
Eliza Madrigal: oh, didn't realize. Very good news
Storm Nordwind: Para, there seems to be no definite plan at the moment. Could be group land. Could be a patchwork of individual lands. That discussion seems to still be evolving.
Bruce Mowbray nods.
Bruce Mowbray waits for "emergence"....
Eliza Madrigal: It seems most prefer the group option, with just a few outliers
Eliza Madrigal: and those outliers seem to have specialized intentions, like me wishing to keep a retreat space, or Adams the museum
ElanVitalo Resident is taking a MOOC in "Complex Systems" and loves 'emergence.'
Eliza Madrigal: Hey Mick!
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Mick!
--BELL--
Mickorod Renard: hiya
ElanVitalo: https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/complexity-and-uncertainty

Storm Nordwind: Thank you Elan. Groningen, I see... looks interesting.
ElanVitalo: Yes, we have only one more week of the course.
ElanVitalo: It has been enlightening.
ElanVitalo: (a 6-week course.)
Aphrodite Macbain: complexity & uncertainty R US
ElanVitalo: for sure!
ElanVitalo: ha ha.
ElanVitalo: Heya, Qt!
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Qt :))
Aphrodite Macbain: grins
Bruce Mowbray: Welcome, Qt.
Mickorod Renard: hi qt
Aphrodite Macbain: not always comfortable
Aphrodite Macbain: saaalve Qt
Qt Core: Hi all
Paradise Tennant: hiya qt :))
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Bleu!
Eliza Madrigal: Qt and Aph, I just gave you an updated list of names re the reorganization
Aphrodite Macbain: thanks Eliza
Bleu Oleander: hi all :)
Mickorod Renard: h Bleu
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bleu, Luci also dressed for Oscars ^^
ElanVitalo: Welcome, Bleu!
ElanVitalo: Welcome, Luci!
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Luci!
Aphrodite Macbain: I'm wondering whether a place for a pavilion would fit into these plans...
Mickorod Renard: Hi Luci
Aphrodite Macbain: Hiya Luci
Eliza Madrigal: Paradise, you have become the Rachel Zoe of SL
Bruce Mowbray listens for more from Aph...
Aphrodite Macbain: I have appreciated Storm's maps
ElanVitalo Resident searches databases for "Rachael Zoe."
Eliza Madrigal: stylist to movie stars :)
ElanVitalo: ahhhh.
Aphrodite Macbain: and wonder whether we should add a space to meet, like this one
ElanVitalo: ty.
Lucinda Lavender: Greetings:)
Aphrodite Macbain is amazed what some people know
Raffila Millgrove: omg i love Rachel Zoe... so i suddenly see the word in chat and have to close email and rush back.
Eliza Madrigal grins... just important things
Eliza Madrigal: ^^
Bruce Mowbray: afk for just a sec, before Guardians' mtg at top of hour.
Qt Core: (i thought it was the only thing needed, aph) ;-)
Lucinda Lavender: brb too...
Raffila Millgrove: sorry for not greeting recent arrivals.. have been afk in emails.
Aphrodite Macbain: exactly Qt. What is the top priority?
Raffila Millgrove: getting up to date for meet.
Eliza Madrigal: Well, let's try to be a little systematic. So at the beginning of the meeting I'll post the current numbers
Aphrodite Macbain: we can talk about this inthe Guardian's meeting I guerss
Aphrodite Macbain: ok
Eliza Madrigal: and if someone could rezz Storm's diagram it would prob help
Eliza Madrigal: and a few scenarios/possibilities for land and prim amounts
ElanVitalo: Sounds good, Eliza.
Bruce Mowbray: We might need a "Talking Stick"....
Eliza Madrigal: Storm just said that this much ahead of schedule we could be saving previous owners as much as $800 for this year
ElanVitalo Resident nods.
Raffila Millgrove: what is MOOC, Elan?
ElanVitalo: i hope we're able to do that.
Storm Nordwind: You could just post the URLs for the diagrams you wish people to see. They're all on imgur so people would see them on a browser.
Bleu Oleander: I'm sure that would be appreciated!
ElanVitalo: Massive Open Online Courses.
Eliza Madrigal: Ok, I'll try to do that. I use a diff computer for SL now, so don't have easy window openings like I did before
ElanVitalo: (like FutureLearn or Coursera).
Raffila Millgrove: is Complex Systems.. referring to?? computers??
ElanVitalo: Not just that. Referring to any complex system -- like the economy, or crowds, or society in general.
ElanVitalo: Maybe even like PaB!
Eliza Madrigal: bird flight patterns?
Bruce Mowbray: Excellent example, Eliza. I'm heading over to the Village Hall now.
Bruce Mowbray: THANKS for being here, everyone.
Eliza Madrigal: Thanks Bruce, will mosey too
Raffila Millgrove: ah. just read a great article on language of money.. how/why it's so confusing. fascinating. reminded because author said language is partly complex because subject is complex..
Storm Nordwind: In the context of the course, my guess is that it's large new systems that emerge from the association of smaller simpler systems.
Mickorod Renard: bye bruce
Eliza Madrigal is a simple system
Eliza Madrigal: heheh
Raffila Millgrove: we are going to meet now?
Raffila Millgrove walks over to the meet spot.
Mickorod Renard: what's happening?
Paradise Tennant: going to hold the guardian session on the land question
ElanVitalo: Whew!
ElanVitalo: Folks are arriving at the Hall.
ElanVitalo: I should leave.
ElanVitalo: Bye for now.
