Relating to the feeling of holiday seige described, but have maybe found happy balances with very small gifts and gestures, for those for whom the season seems especially important. I like lightly dipping my toe into the pool, without getting sucked in. And I like that my daughter who moved out this year, will come stay for a few days soon. :)
I recommended a book to someone two years ago, and found out recently she was recommending it to others. I also tried to explain the point of that same book to a few people around the same time and felt I hadn't succeeded, that I had only been able to make the minor points but not the main one. I found out a few days ago that at least one of those people had understood my point perfectly, and that I had in fact effected a (very minor) shift to his world view.
I am thankful for the way ideas spread and keep on spreading.
Grateful for my ability to decline graciously (most of the time;-) all raging marketing offers: discount cards, air miles, loyalty points, package deals and so on. I don't have that kind of time.
I am grateful for the newsletters Ken McLeod sends out regularly. The one that arrived on Monday seemed especially "on point" with regard to the discussion about "The Existence of Nothing" we had at Aph's 1 p.m. session at the Playgoda:
Verse 2.8 and 2.9 — nothing to do, nowhere to go
Practice or not practice - place attention past that.
Do or not do - these decisions fade away.
Empty or not empty - awakening mind is beyond.
Am or am not - there’s a space where these differences fall away.
Awareness - not a word, not a thought, no description at all.
Its axis - no corrective, no holding a position.
Bare, steady, fresh and constantly unfolding,
A vastness free from effort and complication.
Rest there, with no movement in past, present or future.

which may seem like servitude
yet each one noted billows out
its own release, its own reward

Something like being surrounded by love.
