I am grateful that last night's PBS Newshour was historically accurate regarding George Washington's deathbed events on December 13-14, 1799. A family 'legend' about one of the doctors attending Washington said that he was the only one of the three docs present who opposed bloodletting. (They drained 40% of Washington's blood in just a few hours.) That doctor was my 4th great uncle. This 'family legend' intrigued me enough that I wrote a 30-page term paper about the last day of Washington's life (for an undergrad "Techniques of Historical Research" course.) Today I intend to write to the history professor responsible for the PBS segment to thank him for the accuracy of his work. Here's his entire article:

A lovely day with a unexpected mid-day nap at the computer. Thankful for sleep when it is offered and taken.

    Happy Hanukkah :)

A good friend lost her dad just a few weeks ago, so we attended her son's band concert as inadequate but affectionate stand-ins. It was fun, especially the steel band show at the end, where I had a little too much fun, prompting me to ask my son "Am I embarrassing you?" He quickly replied, "No, you are embarrassing yourself." :P edited 02:33, 17 Dec 2014

Spirulina - blue green algae - possibly the first photosynthetic life form, keeps on giving, may be the food of the future - thanks, buddies!

The tree I think was planted during George's life. A tulip poplar. My daughter works here and gave us a lovely tour over thanksgiving holiday.
