The Guardian for this meeting was Pema Pera. The comments are by Pema Pera.
Pema Pera: Hi there, Wol!Adams joined Wol and me, and would soon be followed by Corvi
Wol Euler: good morning pema! nice to see you again-
Pema Pera: yes, good to be back here -- I've been incredibly busy the last two weeks, but I hope to be able to come more regularly from now on
Wol Euler: I think the meetings do have a different flavour in your absence.
Pema Pera: :)
Pema Pera wondering whether he should ask further about flavours . . .
Wol Euler chuckles
Wol Euler: I don't know how you deal with life, travelling all the time. I think the jetlag would crush me.
Pema Pera: that's the easy part, it puts me in a semi-dream-like state
Pema Pera: which I like, and which helps integrate various modes of consciousness, actually
Pema Pera: the rushing to catch up at the end of a stay is the harder part, tying up loose ends
Pema Pera: and then after arrival catching up with what has happened meanwhile in the other place :-)
Wol Euler: mmhmm
Wol Euler: though I would expect that the "happening" is increasingly electronically mediated?
Wol Euler: so as easily available in Tokyo as in Princeton?
Pema Pera: well, yes, indeed, which means that you're never out of reach of all the requests for involvement in everything . . . .
Wol Euler: heheheheh
Pema Pera: . . . but even so, there are things you still can't do at a distance
Pema Pera: like opening your snailmail
Pema Pera: and saying hi to people you haven't seen for a while
Wol Euler: what, there are people who aren't yet in SL? ;-)
Pema Pera: and bringing your car in for an oil change -- those little things also pile up
Pema Pera: hehehe, yes, it seems so
Pema Pera: Hi Adams!I then suggested to have tp stations at both sides of the journeys from the exhibit, but I didn't express myself very clearly at first.
Wol Euler: hello adams, good morning
Pema Pera: Thanks again for the wonderful exhibit!
Adams Dubrovna: Hello Pema and Wol :)
Wol Euler: yes indeed!
Pema Pera: we'll have to discuss how to make your exhibit permanent, as we started to do over email yesterday
Pema Pera: definitely worth a whole PaB sim
Adams Dubrovna: :)
Pema Pera: with a cluster of buildings
Adams Dubrovna: We'll mis the clouds drifting by :)
Wol Euler: hi corvi!
Pema Pera: I'd prefer to have them all on the ground, rather than having floating copies -- I was rather confused by the clouds
Adams Dubrovna: Hello Corvi :)
Pema Pera: because with all the avatars present, the clouds become veils
Pema Pera: grey carton boards really
Adams Dubrovna will put some signs up there about the clouds
Pema Pera: Hi Corvi!
Corvuscorva Nightfire: Hi all
Adams Dubrovna: It was going to be for lost works but that never got off the ground (hehe so to speak)
Wol Euler chuckles
Pema Pera: It would be great to have little PaB pillars at the places where we now can tp to, from the exhibit, so that people at the other side can learn about PaBWe then hit on a practical trial option.
Pema Pera: making the relationship symmetric
Pema Pera: many people interested in sacred art may well be interested in PaB too
Adams Dubrovna: Have you ever been to St. Catherine's Monastery in SL Pema?
Pema Pera: Is there anybody you know, Adams, with whom you are already on friendly terms, on whose property we may be able to eract such a pillar, as a first try-out?
Pema Pera: No, I haven't Adams
Wol Euler: ah, I've been trying to rememeber that name. I'll check that this afternoon
Adams Dubrovna: Not quite sure what you mean Pema
Pema Pera: right now, using one of your note cards, we can tp from your exhibit to, say, the Monastry of St.Catherine, right, and then back again using the same notecard
Adams Dubrovna: The St. Catherine Monastery is of course after the orignal in Mt. Sinai and the builder has been very sensitive to the "holiness" of the place
Adams Dubrovna: yes Pema
Pema Pera: What I would like is for people visiting the Monastery to find a pillar to click on to get a notecard about PaB
Wol Euler: my beach attracts newbies, judging from the flotsam that washes ashore there. You could set up one by Storm's rowboat.
Pema Pera: so to make the relationship symmertic
Pema Pera: and to be able to tp to PaB and back
Adams Dubrovna: Apparently some one was going to allow it to move to their land and reneged
Adams Dubrovna: No, I wasn;t sure what you had in mind about the pillar
Adams Dubrovna: the column
Pema Pera: "it" being such a pillar?
Adams Dubrovna: like a Greek column?
Pema Pera: oh, anything really that you can click to get a note card
Pema Pera: any sign
Pema Pera wondering whether we are now talking about the same thing :-)
Adams Dubrovna: Storm could probably make something?
Pema Pera: sure
Pema Pera: so the first step would be to ask someone to allow something clickable on their land, to make the relationship with your exhibit symmetric
Pema Pera: mutually tp-able in both directions, starting at either end
Pema Pera: have you asked someone yet?
Adams Dubrovna: No I haven't :)
Pema Pera: do you know someone as a guinea pig, to ask first?
Pema Pera: to set up an example case?
Corvuscorva Nightfire: well all of us have land, right?
Corvuscorva Nightfire: Kira for instance?
Pema Pera: sure, but I mean a "Sacred Art" place
Pema Pera: the technical part is trivial
Corvuscorva Nightfire nods.
Pema Pera: the human part is what I meant, asking someone to allow us to do that -- I think in fact most people will be thrilled
Pema Pera: advertisement is a good thing for most people
Wol Euler: a mutual friend of ours has spoken a few times with the person who made the SL Ryoanji Garden, he could ask them about it.And so we would, after the hour was up.
Pema Pera: yes, that would be one place to start
Pema Pera: in fact the new owner is someone I know very well
Pema Pera: and who, unlike the creator, does answer IMs :-)
Adams Dubrovna: :)
Wol Euler: ah! then it would be even better for you to approach them, actually :)
Pema Pera: Will do right away; Theodote is her name, she bought Ryoanji a couple months ago
Wol Euler: oh wow, I know her.
Wol Euler: she used to have a great dance club called Planet Bollywood
Pema Pera: She visited PaB early on too, when we were in the original tea house still
Wol Euler: but it went gothique.
Pema Pera: yes, next to Ryoanji
Pema Pera: yes
Pema Pera: but she saved Ryoanji
Adams Dubrovna: yay
Pema Pera: the creator wanted to abandon it, I think
Wol Euler: ok, so her karma balances out :)
Adams Dubrovna: like St. Catherine's
Pema Pera: I have offered her to take it over right away if ever she no longer wants it
Pema Pera: how so Adams?
Wol Euler: ha, the world is so small.
Pema Pera: SL is the size of Manhattan :-)
Wol Euler: *worlds are
Adams Dubrovna: The owner is planing on dismatntling it unless someone takes it
Pema Pera: AH!
Pema Pera: how large is it?
Pema Pera: we might be able to host it, at least temporarily
Pema Pera: we still have quite a bit of land that so far doesn't have a role
Pema Pera: assigned
Adams Dubrovna: It is not a whole sim but it is multiple small buildings within a wall
Pema Pera: and you know the owner?
Adams Dubrovna: It is roughly done but I think it is an important build
Adams Dubrovna: yes, I do
Pema Pera: shall we have a field trip, briefly, after this session?
Adams Dubrovna: that would be great
Wol Euler: good idea.
Adams Dubrovna: It was the first place in SL I took the studentsFael joined us.
Pema Pera: !
Wol Euler: just out of curiosity, how many of your students were already in SL before the class?
Adams Dubrovna: none
Wol Euler: wow
Pema Pera: !
Pema Pera: how many are now?
Adams Dubrovna: That was our major problem
Pema Pera: followed by major accomplishment!!
Adams Dubrovna: they could only get AVs from home because SL will not do any more on university accounts
Wol Euler: O.O
Adams Dubrovna: says tghe "hoiusehold" has enough
Corvuscorva Nightfire: aw
Adams Dubrovna: 6 now
Wol Euler: strange idea...
Pema Pera: and do you think those 6 may stay involved when you keep growing the project?
Adams Dubrovna: 2 dropped out already :)
Pema Pera: to a whole sim, to symmetric tp posts
Adams Dubrovna: SWe have the Art History group
Adams Dubrovna: It has been attracting people
Pema Pera: how about throwing a kiind of party for the remaining 4
Pema Pera: with invitations to anyone else interested
Adams Dubrovna: We had talked about that earlier :)
Pema Pera: and what happened after we talked earlier?
Adams Dubrovna: It was scheduled for next Friday but I haven't checked everyone to make sure they could come. I sent out an email this morning
Adams Dubrovna: February 13
Pema Pera: next Friday = this Friday = this coming one?
Adams Dubrovna: :)
Wol Euler: depending on time, I'm sure any of us would offer to be there to talk to them, if desired
Adams Dubrovna: yes
Adams Dubrovna: :)
Pema Pera always confused about American date terminology
Adams Dubrovna: It was before you left :)
Pema Pera: how about reserving one PaB session for them
Wol Euler: I owuld offer mine but 1 a.m. is probably a bit too early
Pema Pera: what time Friday, Adams?
Pema Pera: Hi Fael!
Wol Euler: hello fael
Fael Illyar: Hi Pema, Corvi, Wol, Adams :)
Adams Dubrovna: Ah, we're talking about SL now
Adams Dubrovna: Hi Fael :)
Pema Pera: yes
Adams Dubrovna getting confusider
Pema Pera: AH, RL party!!!! yes that too
Pema Pera: remember that one now
Corvuscorva Nightfire: Hi FAel!
Adams Dubrovna: Hello Moon :)
Corvuscorva Nightfire: Hi, Moon!
Moon Fargis: greetings
Pema Pera: you would come to Princeton with a group, right?
Pema Pera: Hi Moon
Wol Euler: hello moon-as-human :) long time no see.
Moon Fargis: humen ? where?:)
Adams Dubrovna: That was the plan if they are up to it :)
Wol Euler chuckles as fael hugs pema
Pema Pera: :-)
Wol Euler: that shot goes on the wiki!
Pema Pera: hahaha
Pema Pera: getting very crowded here
Corvuscorva Nightfire smiles at the hugging.
Moon Fargis: ˙·•| mmh *nods* |•·˙
Wol Euler: everfyone freeze
Pema Pera: So, Adams, Friday lunch in Princeton?
Fael Illyar made this pose today just for this kind of purpose :P
Pema Pera: :-)
Corvuscorva Nightfire: oh, Fael..it's wonderful.
Pema Pera: 1001 nights?
Fael Illyar smiles 'Thank you Corvi.'
Adams Dubrovna: Yes, if that is still OK :)
Corvuscorva Nightfire: thanks Wol
Wol Euler smiles
Adams Dubrovna: thanks Wol
Corvuscorva Nightfire grins at the pic of poor Pema under a pile of snuggle.
Wol Euler cams and chuckles
Pema Pera: perfect, sure, Adams, please come visit!
Moon Fargis: ah dubble snuggle!
Pema Pera: Let's do that first, and then we can discuss how to continue, including a celebratory PaB session
Wol Euler: moon, turn back to face northwest again please?
Wol Euler: to your right
Adams Dubrovna: There are the three people in SL who are not available for RL meeting, of course
Pema Pera: Ah, Gaya, Hana, Scathach ?
Adams Dubrovna: yes Pema
Pema Pera hopes that Adams doesn't feel left out, sitting all by himself . . . .
Pema Pera: among all those two-somes and three-somes . . .
Fael Illyar: one, two, three :)
Adams Dubrovna will take a bath first next time
Adams Dubrovna: :)
Fael Illyar smiles 'You'll get your turn :P'
Corvuscorva Nightfire laughs, and squeezes Adam's hand. You're lovely, my friend...no bath needed...
Fael Illyar: can only hug one person at once :)
Pema Pera: Yes, we look like a picture in a children's book, for learning how to count . . . .
Fael Illyar: at least with this pose :)
Wol Euler: ha, yes.
Adams Dubrovna: :)I turned back to the Sacred Art project, to the idea of making that into a two-way hub
Pema Pera: -> Fael's 1, 2, 3
Corvuscorva Nightfire laughs.
Corvuscorva Nightfire: Wol...
Corvuscorva Nightfire: can you illustrate that for us?
Pema Pera: actually 0, 1, 2, 3 !
Corvuscorva Nightfire grins..perfect.
Wol Euler: that sounds like a log title to me.
Corvuscorva Nightfire nods.
Pema Pera: "1,2,3" as a title?
Pema Pera: pretty short . . .
Fael Illyar: take one more, I noticed I left this positioned a bit too high :)
Wol Euler: but efective.
Fael Illyar: (for the wiki, so hard drive might be good place to save it)
Adams Dubrovna: one, two three is longer :)
Wol Euler: right
Fael Illyar: took me 10 uploads to get this one right :P
Wol Euler: pema, I'll send you that snapshot by email
Pema Pera: thanks, Wol!
Wol Euler rubs moon's furry belly
Moon Fargis humms cutely.
Pema Pera: btw, about Ryoanji, Adams, is that in the Sacred Art collection already?Moon left, so we were left with the five of us
Adams Dubrovna: yes
Pema Pera: so I can ask Theodote, great!
Pema Pera: Where is the pointer to Ryoanji, in which of the three buildings?
Adams Dubrovna: Lower floor in the Buddhism room
Pema Pera: great, will check, thanks!
Pema Pera worrying now about Children's book's arithmetic . . . .
Fael Illyar: 2, 3, 1 :)
Adams Dubrovna: We sgtarted with the eastern traditions on the ground floor adjacent to the Zen Rtereat
Adams Dubrovna: but it got out of hand and the second level is mixed
Pema Pera: ah, good place then to start with our reciprocal tp posts
Adams Dubrovna: Islam, Hindu and "Other"
Wol Euler: apropos other, I noticed that a Pastafarian attended your talk on the exhibition, Adams :)
Wol Euler: is there place for "his noodly appendage"?
Fael Illyar smiles.
Adams Dubrovna: :)
Wol Euler: http://www.venganza.org/
Wol Euler: no, scrub that, far too silly, and not nearly artful enough :)
Pema Pera: oh, I love Bob Marley's music!
Adams Dubrovna: There is a Benedictine Monastery that met the first criteria
Adams Dubrovna: but very artful
Adams Dubrovna: The abbot's office had Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise
Adams Dubrovna: but was right below a bell that was almost as big as his ofice
Adams Dubrovna: The chruch was up a mountain with a long staircase with no railing
Adams Dubrovna: The AV could not see the stairs on the weay down they were so steep
Fael Illyar: wow
Moon Fargis: ohhsee you ill need to check something
Wol Euler: "no railing" neeed not be a problem, just use invisible prims
Wol Euler: bfn moon
Adams Dubrovna: there were none :)
Adams Dubrovna: the steps were too steep for a woman AV too :)
Wol Euler: boo!
Fael Illyar: is there a difference in how female and male AVs go up steps?
Wol Euler: actually I have been thinking for quite a while now about building the Temple as described in the Bible, but never got around to it.
Adams Dubrovna: Just leg length Fael :)
Fael Illyar: Oh, ok :)
Fael Illyar: If you'd prefer me to sit normally, I can do that too :)
Adams Dubrovna: :)
Pema Pera: which temple, Wol?
Wol Euler: tinies and quadrupeds have great trouble with stairs too
Wol Euler: Solomon's temple in Jerusalem
Wol Euler: just out of interest and curiosity, as an architect
Adams Dubrovna seems to remember some cubits and cedar
Wol Euler: mmhmm :)
Pema Pera: :-)
Pema Pera: yeah, pi = 3 wasn't it?
Wol Euler: and enormous quantities of gold and silver serving vessels :)
Adams Dubrovna: That should be easy in SL as long as they are not "no copy"
Wol Euler: finding good textures is the tricky bit
Adams Dubrovna: yes
Adams Dubrovna noticed those kind of compromises in the many buildings visited
Wol Euler nods
Wol Euler: it might be interesting to consider the "SL-ness" of such reproductions, how well htey use the tools and how they conform to the practicalities of SL
Wol Euler: that people fly and TP about, shortcutting dramatically planned routes
Wol Euler: the eternal compromise between detailed textures and horrendous lag
Adams Dubrovna: Yes, and then, of course, some people are more limited in prims
Pema Pera: it
Adams Dubrovna: than others
Pema Pera: it's 8 am, shall we visit the monastery, Adams?
Wol Euler: yes, let's do. I'd like to see it too
Adams Dubrovna: ys, it is one of my favorite places. Would you like to come Fael?
Fael Illyar: sure :)
Adams Dubrovna: If I stand up, will Fael come with me?
Adams Dubrovna: I'll tp you Fael :)
Wol Euler: meet you there!
Fael Illyar: ok :)
