The Guardian for this meeting was Adams Rubble. The comments are by Adams Rubble.
Wol and I sat down to talk
Wol Euler: hello adams
Adams Rubble: Hell Wol :)))
Wol Euler: hell yeah :)
Adams Rubble giggles
Adams Rubble: Hello dear Wol :)
Wol Euler laughs. Muuuuuuuch better.
Wol Euler: how are you today?
Adams Rubble: I am very, very good. How about you?
Wol Euler: moderately well.
Adams Rubble thinks you should hold on tight to the good part of the moderately :)
Wol Euler: I shall do my very best.
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: I do mean that kindly :)
Wol Euler: that's how I understood it.
Wol Euler: it's not all bad. I have coffee and George Gershwin and a gentle breeze through the open window
Adams Rubble: that's the part I was talking about. hehe
Adams Rubble may be a little too high right now :)
Adams Rubble: but feeling very happy
Wol Euler: too high? what were you doing last night?
Adams Rubble: I was in a few conversations that all came together for me this morning :)
Wol Euler: ah :)
Adams Rubble: I stayed up rather late afterwards
Adams Rubble: unusual for me
Adams Rubble: I started to feel energy
Adams Rubble: I will be less obscure :)
Adams Rubble: Oh OK guardian
Adams Rubble: or master thingee
Wol Euler smiles. We are surrounded by fussy, talking machinesAdams Rubble: Buggs, is this your first time here?
We had a visitor there but since I neglected to ask whether he gave permission and since he left without saying much, I took him out of the log
Adams Rubble: I will give you a card
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Wol, Adams, Buggs
Wol Euler: oooh, rezzed in December 2006! a venerable elder of SL
Adams Rubble: that explains a little of what we do here
Wol Euler: hello eliza
Wol Euler: nice t-shirt, Eliza, is it new?
Eliza Madrigal: Thanks Wol. I've had it for a while actually, but keep losing it in my inventory! :)
Adams Rubble knows what you mean :)
Eliza Madrigal: I've tried to be organized but it isn't easy
Wol Euler: mmhmm, it takes nearly as much effort as in RL
Wol Euler: and constant vigilance
Eliza Madrigal: One day freebie shopping sets the whole system out of whack
Eliza Madrigal: yes!
Eliza Madrigal: I have far more in the way of clothes in SL than in RL certainly :)
Wol Euler: hehehehe
Adams Rubble: hehe
I continue talking aabout yesterday and this morning
Adams Rubble: I started talking about my experience last night and this morning with Wol
Wol Euler: yes, please continue (if appropriate)
Eliza Madrigal: yes please :)
Adams Rubble: I had a long conversation with Eliza last night about some of my youthful religious experiences
Adams Rubble: then at PaB last night Pema and I talked about using Being as a resource
Adams Rubble: it is something that has been on my mind for some time
Adams Rubble: what could that mean?
Adams Rubble: When young, I used to use God as a resource
Adams Rubble: but when I lost that faith that was all gone
Adams Rubble: anyway...
Adams Rubble: after PaB I had an energy and was awake for some time
Adams Rubble: extremely unusual for me :)
Adams Rubble: I usually go out like a lightbulb
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Adams Rubble: It was just energy, no thoughts
Adams Rubble: but when I woke up this morning I remembered that I thought I had a calling from God way back then
Adams Rubble: and started to think about this as a possible hint on what it might mean to use Being as a resource
Adams Rubble: when I lost my faith, the calling persisted for a few years
Adams Rubble: I finally dropped it with the help of a dear firend who helped me see life on the other side
Adams Rubble: In some ways I was carrying it as an identity or attachment
Wol Euler nods
Adams Rubble: but at the time and ever since, I felt I had lost something
Eliza Madrigal nods
Adams Rubble: There is a bit more
Adams Rubble: an important piece
Adams Rubble: This morning I thought of Paul's first epistle to the Corinthians, chapter 13 :)
Wol Euler smiles
Adams Rubble: I am going to assume Paul said that love is still there if faith is gone
Adams Rubble: if not, I say it (giggles)
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Adams Rubble: That I missed the fact that the calling was to love
Adams Rubble: Buddhist compassion
Wol Euler: mmhmm
Adams Rubble: and that is what I lost
Eliza Madrigal: Did you lose it, or the way you were holding it
Wol Euler: good question.
Adams Rubble: I lost touch with the calling
Wol Euler frowns. Is the calling itself "love", or is it a pointer towards love?
Adams Rubble: Pema suggested that he thinks it what may be what brought me to PaB
Adams Rubble: the calling was to love
Adams Rubble: to serve God
Adams Rubble: and man
Adams Rubble: and women :)
Wol Euler: oh but you do, dear Adams. You have served thirty years of students.
Wol Euler: and your family.
Wol Euler: and us.
Adams Rubble: :)
Eliza Madrigal nods and smiles....it just doesn't look like what you thought it was supposed to maybe
Wol Euler: and while "love" might not have been a word in the forefront of your mind, it was surely in your actions.
Adams Rubble: well, without love it is empty as Paul suggests
Wol Euler nods to Eliza.
Adams Rubble: “4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Eliza Madrigal: You know, Mother Teresa didn't 'feel' the presence of God, according to her later writings, yet she poured out ... what?
Wol Euler nods
Adams Rubble: LOve!
Eliza Madrigal nods. She longed to feel the earlier sense of calling and presence
Eliza Madrigal: but still 'saw Jesus' everywhere and served
Wol Euler: and I would say that Paul was writing of possibilities and suggestions, not a comprehensive diagnostic guide :)
Adams Rubble: I think os one of the beautiful things ever written :)
Wol Euler nods.
Adams Rubble: anyway, that is why I am happy this morning :)
Eliza Madrigal is happy you are happy
Wol Euler smiles and nods.
Adams Rubble: and Eliza I guess it WASN'T completely lost
Wol Euler: just walking in the fog for a while.
Wol Euler: it happens.
Adams Rubble: lots of fog :)
Wol Euler: and then the fog lifted.
Eliza Madrigal nods :)
Adams Rubble: more fog than in London
Eliza Madrigal: Love also ties into his talking about 'whatever state I'm in therewith to be content' perhaps
Adams Rubble: yes Eliza :)
Eliza Madrigal: a sense of steadiness in fog, out of fog, etc :)
Adams Rubble: a foghorn
Eliza Madrigal is not a good example of that but thinks about it quite a bit :)
Adams Rubble: when young, I made the mistake of thinking it was only me
Adams Rubble: something was wrong with me that I did not have faith
Eliza Madrigal nods
Wol Euler nods
Adams Rubble: as Avastu might say, nothihng is wrong with us, we are all perfect
Wol Euler: a sentence which, while true, does need a lot of unpacking
Adams Rubble: :)
Eliza Madrigal nods
Eliza Madrigal: It seems to me there is a rather natural process at work in the sort of cycles of awareness you describe Adams
Adams Rubble listening
Eliza Madrigal: I suppose in the same way we have limited views of people from childhood..all in relation to 'us'
Eliza Madrigal: and as we get older we can 'allow them' to have other contexts
Adams Rubble nods
Eliza Madrigal: and know that even when they are in the next room we aren't abandoned
Adams Rubble: that includes our spiritual advisors
Eliza Madrigal nods
Wol Euler: mmhmm
Eliza Madrigal: and we let ourselves break out too :)
Adams Rubble: it is the way we allow ourselves to see
Adams Rubble: maybe I let go of an identity overnight :)
Wol Euler: maybe so :)
Eliza Madrigal: It is a curious and inspiring thing that your calling didn't leave you...found you very substantive and loving work :)(
Wol Euler: indeed
Adams Rubble: well thank you, but knowing myself, I know that I had lost something very important all that time and only in the past year have begun to rediscover it
Adams Rubble: last night was another step
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Adams Rubble: I'd like to throw in the last paragraph of Pema's email about using Being as a resource in response to my email to him
I read in a quote from an email from Pema
Adams Rubble: As for "using Being as a resource", I may have said that, but that was not an precise statement. Viewing Being as a resource is a better expression, and letting Being be your resource even better. Like in the word "calling", it is not you that checks out Being, but rather Being that always is ready to approach you. The only thing you have to do is to stop trying to block and ignore Being. Once you stop doing that, Being will do the rest. It's real easy!
Wol Euler smiles
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: I like the idea of Being 'always ready to approach'
Adams Rubble: yes
Adams Rubble: It is realted to what we discussed last last night Eliza
Adams Rubble: we just have to be ready to receive :)
Wol Euler: and not blindsided by its taking a different form to our expectation.
Eliza Madrigal: yes!
Adams Rubble: :)
Wol Spins a Yarn and the session gets a title
Wol Euler: like the story of the true believer who drowned in New Orleans :)
Adams Rubble: oh?
Wol Euler giggles.
Wol Euler: As the evacuatio order was given because of the incoming hurricane, the true believer sat still on his porch and said "God will take care of me."
Wol Euler: the waters started rising, and a police car came by. They called out" get in!", he replied "god will take care of me"
Wol Euler: the waters rose, and a firetruck came by. They called out" get in!", he replied "god will take care of me"
Wol Euler: he had to climb onto the porch roof, and as he sat there a boat came by. The occupants called out" get in!", he replied "god will take care of me"
Wol Euler: the waters rose even higher, and he climbed on to the roof. A helicopter flew over and dropped down a ladder. He sat still, saying "god will take care of me"
Wol Euler: well the waters rose even higher, and he drowned.
Wol Euler: Meeting St. Peter at the gates of Heaven, he was incensed. "Why did god not save me"?
Wol Euler: "oh," says peter, "I'll go and ask."
Adams Rubble raises an eyebrow
Wol Euler: Peter comes back, and says "God said 'I sent the police, the fire department, your neighbours in a boat, and a helicopter. What more did you want?'"
Adams Rubble: hehe
Eliza Madrigal smiles...yup.
Wol Euler: perhaps the calling that you missed was the just one way of packaging of Love.
Eliza Madrigal: the beginning sketch
Adams Rubble: Dear Friends, thank you so much for putting a good spin on my decisions. Fact is I lost something and think I may have found it and I may be too happy this morning for my own good :)
Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: perhaps it was not lost but just mislaid? because you do seem to have it.
Adams Rubble: but I will check out your pointers too :)
Wol Euler: (not to devalue the significance of last night's revelation!)
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: no, I never even connsidered you were doing that :)
Wol Euler: good :)
Adams Rubble: It helps that it is a truly beautiful day here, low humidity, birds singing :)
Adams Rubble: anyone have anything else they would like to say on the log?
Wol Euler: "life is grand."
Adams Rubble: :)
Eliza Madrigal: "Life is good"
Adams Rubble: I had those thoughts too :)
Adams Rubble: say good night Gracie :)
Wol Euler: "good night Gracie"
Adams Rubble: hehe
