I get to meet Widget, our newest guardian
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Widget! :)Devil's Snare
Widget Whiteberry: good morning
Adams Rubble: Hello Eliza and Widget
Eliza Madrigal: Hello Adams :)
Adams Rubble: Nice to meet you Widgget and welcome to our gaurdian group
Widget Whiteberry: thank you!
Eliza Madrigal: Yes, Warm welcome!!
Widget Whiteberry: I hope to contribute
Adams Rubble: :)
Eliza Madrigal: I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on being playing at the last session we were in together
Widget Whiteberry: ty, it is an opening for me to expand my ways of relating to myself and the world(s) around me
Adams Rubble: I have found it a good place to do that
Widget Whiteberry: being easier on myself
Eliza Madrigal: Ohhh yes, we're really rough with ourselves sometimes aren't we
Widget Whiteberry: Oh yes. How does it go for you, Adams?
Adams Rubble: that is a noble goal
Widget Whiteberry: Noble? How?
Adams Rubble: I learn more and more about myself all the time :)
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: Noble goal to expand orselves and the understanding of the world around us at the same time being easy on ourselves. It would be a better world if everyone did it
Adams Rubble: :)
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Widget Whiteberry: oh, I like that
Widget Whiteberry: being hard on myself is a lifetime's habit and doesn't result in much improvement
Adams Rubble nods
Adams Rubble: only makes us suffer more
Eliza Madrigal: Ohhh true. It isn't as though it makes us more efficient in the long run, right?
Adams Rubble: Hello Qt
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Qt :)
Qt Core: hi all
Widget Whiteberry: agreed, Eliza. Being hard on myself is not effective, absorbs my energies
Widget Whiteberry: good morning Qt
Adams Rubble nods
Adams Rubble: Hello Yak
Eliza Madrigal: There's a story about exhausting all one's efforts to try to shoot an arrow through the moon... something to that effect :)
Widget Whiteberry pats her knee for Yak
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Yakuzza :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey everyone
Qt Core: hi Yak
Adams Rubble: we can just drop the being hard on ourselves :)
Adams Rubble: so easy and so hard :)
Widget Whiteberry looks for the 'detach' command
Eliza Madrigal: heheh
Adams Rubble: learn to accept ourselves
Adams Rubble: have you tired the 9 seconds yet Widgget?
Adams Rubble: tried
Widget Whiteberry: in rl? yes
Widget Whiteberry: from time to time
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: Hello Sophia
Eliza Madrigal: There's a string in the harry potter movies I've liked... which is something called "devil's snare".... it is a plant like something which holds onto one.... the only way to get through it is to completely relax because it tightens as you struggle...Pema reminds us that sometimes we put our energy in the wrong direction with the best of intentions
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Sophia! :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey sophia
Eliza Madrigal: *book rather... not sure if it made it to the films
Adams Rubble: Nice analogy Eliza :)
Qt Core: yes it did
Eliza Madrigal: Ah :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: just sat down and have to go afk for a min :)
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Qt Core: and when sunlight (truth's light ?) hit it it dies
Eliza Madrigal: yes!
Adams Rubble: :)
Eliza Madrigal: JK Rowling is brilliant with those pictures
Adams Rubble has a few of those plants hanging from her (giggles)
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Widget Whiteberry: pesky things, those snares
Qt Core: mmm, another excuse to reread her books, searching for deeper symbolism ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: I watched a show about the LoTR yesterday... hadn't known that Tolkien had been raised by a Catholic priest for part of his life
Widget Whiteberry: what Order of priest?
Eliza Madrigal: You know, the show unfortunately wasn't that deep....
Widget Whiteberry: that would be interesting to know
Qt Core: seeing his believes about the great fight between good and evil i thing gesuits ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: but I thought it was interesting that this informed his symbology, etc
Widget Whiteberry nods
Adams Rubble: Hello Pema
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Pema :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: hi pema
Pema Pera: Hi everybody!
Widget Whiteberry: good morning
Qt Core: hi pema
SophiaSharon Larnia: HI Pema
Adams Rubble: Eliza brought up a plant in Harry Potter that latches on to you...
Adams Rubble: and the more you struggle the more it holds on
Adams Rubble: relaxing and sunlight are the cures
Adams Rubble: and we have been thinking about that
Pema Pera: sounds familiar!
Adams Rubble: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
Widget Whiteberry: when I imagine that plant, I think about
--BELL--
Widget Whiteberry: how putting energy into a disfunctional system/dynamic can feed it. Like the allegory of feeding the wolf.
Widget Whiteberry: or feeding trolls or trollishness
Adams Rubble nods
SophiaSharon Larnia: fall into repeating patterns
Pema Pera: yes, with all the right intentions . . . .Sleeping for Creativity
Eliza Madrigal: hmm
SophiaSharon Larnia: why so important to drop
Eliza Madrigal: In the devil's snare picture, maybe one is trying to drop the snare, but you can't... you have to let go and it drops you.... in a way
Pema Pera: or to drop yourself . . .
Eliza Madrigal nods
Qt Core: like when you insist in not thinking
Pema Pera: :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes we can certainly get tangled in our thoughts :)
Qt Core: thinking not to think make you unable to not to think... remindi me about quantum phisics and the disturbance the observer pose to the sistem ;-)
Eliza Madrigal nods
Pema Pera: relaxing, accepting, appreciating . . . but staying fully engaged -- hard to put it into a formula or method, but something we all can practice
Pema Pera: they key seems to be mostly to remind yourself to do it
Pema Pera: each time when you remember, you know it again, AHA -- and then you forget again
Adams Rubble: :)
Widget Whiteberry: hmm, for me it helps to get my heart rate up - exercise and sleep seem necessary
Pema Pera: no silver bullet -- only silver buckshot
Widget Whiteberry: lol
Adams Rubble: hehe
Adams Rubble counts the holes
Pema Pera: yes, we tend to sleep too little . . . we're too busy -- creativity needs lots of rest
Adams Rubble: Helo Steve
Pema Pera: hi Steve!
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Stevenaia
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Steve :)
Qt Core: hi steve
Adams Rubble: Yes, I understand the needing mroe sleep :)
Adams Rubble: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: maybe thats why i have been so uncreative lately :)
Pema Pera: biologically, before electric light was invented, and more so even before any kind of fire was used, we had little choice but to sleep at least ten hours a night, on average
--BELL--
Widget Whiteberry: and to sleep before midnight
Pema Pera: so we're not pushing the limit of what is doable, in terms of lack of sleep, but it is probably far from optimal . . . I have learned to give myself at least eight hours of staying in bed, even though I can function quite well with only six hours, almost indefinitely. With eight hours I tend to wake up for a while in the middle of the night, and often that then turns out to be a very creative timeThe First Guardian meeting in many months, see http://playasbeing.wik.is/<wbr/>Chat_Logs/2009/10/2009.10.11_<wbr/>08%3a00_-_A_New_Start_for_<wbr/>Weekly_Guardian_Meetings
Adams Rubble: nice to make it a creative time :)
Widget Whiteberry: when I go to sleep before midnight, I'm more likely to waken with an idea
SophiaSharon Larnia: i did wake up with the solution to a problem the other day, it was awesome
Eliza Madrigal: yes? Something you can share?
SophiaSharon Larnia: its kind of silly :) a friend is taking a class in nursing informatics and asked for ideas for a paper she's writing, and a program, it came to me almost full when i woke up
Adams Rubble: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: it was what she was looking for
Eliza Madrigal: Oh Fantastic!
Widget Whiteberry: I love it when that happens
Eliza Madrigal nods.... and a nice friend to be working on that for her... :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: its hard to explain what i mean abot a program if you dont have to do electronic charting but it has to be simple but complete
Widget Whiteberry: a good example of putting energy into a system
Eliza Madrigal: I have a friend who calls that "holding someone's hand in the dark"...
SophiaSharon Larnia: i woke up with a picture in my mind, not so much the thoughts, pictures of computer screen with everything in place
SophiaSharon Larnia: screens*
Widget Whiteberry: wonderful!
Eliza Madrigal: oh wow :)
Pema Pera: that's great, Sophia!
SophiaSharon Larnia: but knew where all the links led to... i usually fall asleep with the 9 second idea in mind, so i wonder if that had anything to do with it :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: brb
Adams Rubble: I find the exercises defintieyly bring things on
Eliza Madrigal: we can certainly put ourselves in a relaxing mindset which aids creativity even in sleep
Pema Pera: yes, it is hard to trace what causes what, but the 9 sec does seem to help in general to open up our creativity
Adams Rubble: the nine seconds has helped me sort out what is important sometimes
Adams Rubble: just stopping to look at what we are doing seems to do that
Adams Rubble: "why am I doing that silly thing?"
Adams Rubble giggles
Eliza Madrigal nods... and why we are doing it
Adams Rubble: It is almost time for the next meeting
Adams Rubble: time
SophiaSharon Larnia grins
Eliza Madrigal: yay :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: I almost forgot
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: It has been a long time since I was able to say that :)
Pema Pera: yes, off to the Village Hall! http://slurl.com/secondlife/Baikun/131/6/103
SophiaSharon Larnia: phew
SophiaSharon Larnia: it is on the other end of bieup?
Eliza Madrigal: yes...pema just posted a LM
Widget Whiteberry: when is the meeting at the village hall?
Widget Whiteberry: now?
Eliza Madrigal: Right now :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: now! :)
