    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: elephant needs a holiday hat
    Bruce Mowbray: ha ha!

Eliza Madrigal: I enjoyed perusing the logs yesterday... reading that you feel guilt serves no purpose at all...
Eliza Madrigal: was thinking it seems to me a coarse quality...necessary when ego is dense and foggy
Bruce Mowbray: Actually, I feel that responsibility (the taking of it) does have worth... but that guilt is a mix of fear and grief and really serves no purpose - no lasting purpose at all, yes.
Eliza Madrigal: I see... along the lines of Dalai Lama's "If you can't change something don't waste time worrying about it ; if you can change something don't waste time worrying about it" ?
    Bruce Mowbray: Wow!
Bruce Mowbray: That's a great quote. I'm going to copy it and save it.
Bruce Mowbray: And, yes, that is exactly the idea I was pushing.
Eliza Madrigal: feels like starting at the end
    Bruce Mowbray: hmmmm.
    Bruce Mowbray: Yes!

Eliza Madrigal: oooh I see Eden sign on...and Wol...and Aggers....
Bruce Mowbray: yeppers, I watched that too.
    Bruce Mowbray: Here they come!
    Wol Euler: greetings, earth-beings
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Woly and aggers!
Eliza Madrigal: My friends' list lit up like a Christmas tree :))
    Agatha Macbeth can't see anything
Eliza Madrigal: wow look at you Agatha

    bruce eliza santa hats_003.png

    Wol Euler smiles.
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh it's snow
    Eliza Madrigal: tis
Bruce Mowbray: We should all chip in and get aggers a better ISP.
    Wol Euler: heheh
    Eliza Madrigal: I'm in :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello
Eliza Madrigal: and a keyboard too I think... although you seem less glitchy with keys lately Aggers?
Wol Euler: funny, I saw the brown bowl by Eliza, then saw you take something to your mouth, and inferred that it was a bowl of cheese fondue!
Agatha Macbeth: Yes I found a better one
Bruce Mowbray wonders whether aggers is washing her hands more these days.
    Wol Euler: good :)
    Eliza Madrigal: ewwwww
    Wol Euler raises an eyebrow.
Eliza Madrigal: guzzling cheese fondue doesn't sound very appetizing
    Bruce Mowbray dies from laughing....
Wol Euler: yes, drinking it is probably not a good idea

    Agatha Macbeth: Hiya Zenny
Eliza Madrigal: am having hot cocoa :)
    Bruce Mowbray: YO, Zen!
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Zen :))
Wol Euler remembers "Asterix in Switzerland" :)
Agatha Macbeth: A load of gauls
    Zen Arado: Hi all
    Wol Euler: hello zen
Zen Arado: couldn't see the cushions
Bruce Mowbray: Hmmm. That takes a lot of gaul.
    Eliza Madrigal: snowed in
Agatha Macbeth: I had the same problem
Bruce Mowbray: Snowed in? in Miami!?
Eliza Madrigal: close as it gets

    Zen Arado: Hi Eden !
Wol Euler: wow, hello Eden! Long time no see
    Eliza Madrigal: Eden! :D
    Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Eden!
Bruce Mowbray: Great to see you again!
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello Edie :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! :D :p :D :p :D
    Bruce Mowbray: OH MY!
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh my
    Agatha Macbeth: Snap
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
    Agatha Macbeth: Lady in red
    Wol Euler: ...Weeeeee...Weee Weee Weeee...Weeeeee...
    Eliza Madrigal: hehehe

    bruce eliza santa hats_004.png

Eden Haiku: Hi everyone :) Thanks for the warn welcome ;) And the snow!
Agatha Macbeth: Everone is having a weeeee it seems
    Bruce Mowbray: . . . unbelievable. . . .
Eliza Madrigal: How are you doing Eden? very happy to see you
    Agatha Macbeth: A weeee while
Bruce Mowbray ponders "WARN welcome,,," and finds it to be appropriate.
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bruce Mowbray: Love your winter sweater, Eden!
Agatha Macbeth: Yes how are you Edie?
Bruce Mowbray looks for winter sweater....
    Agatha Macbeth: Apple tea?
Agatha Macbeth: No pips I hope
Bruce Mowbray: (Yikes! It must have shrunk during the summer!)
Eden Haiku: Yes, it's a lapsus calami: I meant warm welcome. I'm good. I still do a lot of typos! it's exciting to be here. I'm so glad to see you!
Agatha Macbeth: They all say that
    Bruce Mowbray: thanks, Eliza-ji!
    Agatha Macbeth: Typos rock
Eliza Madrigal: would not want to live in a second world without typos
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Wol Euler chuckles.
Bruce Mowbray: Freud: There are no mistakes.
Agatha Macbeth: The art of tai-po
    Eliza Madrigal laughs
    Eden Haiku: LOL

    bruce eliza santa hats_005.png

Eliza Madrigal: am feeling silly today... not sure I can settle down for 5 minute pauses
    Agatha Macbeth: You silly?
Eliza Madrigal: yes... lots of nervous energy
Agatha Macbeth: The art of one handed typing
Eden Haiku: Oh! you are having 5 minutes pauses now?
Eliza Madrigal: during this session yes
Eliza Madrigal: trying for it to be a bit more retreat like
    Eden Haiku: At the bell?
Eliza Madrigal: yes...and then I ring a singing bell to close the time
    Agatha Macbeth: Ding
    Eden Haiku: Wonderful!
Eliza Madrigal: so we sort of let the second (end) bell be
Bruce Mowbray really appreciates the five-minutes drops.
Agatha Macbeth: Or is it dong?
Eliza Madrigal: :) glad...I like them too
    Wol Euler nods.
Eliza Madrigal: we're approaching a pause now actually... does anyone have something to share before we go in?
    Agatha Macbeth: Snapshots?
Eden Haiku: You all look so gorgeous!
Bruce Mowbray: I want to share my appreciate for Sun-ji's Christmas build and her memorial to Mandela.
    Eliza Madrigal: *

    --BELL--

    Bruce Mowbray: Yikes!
    Eliza Madrigal: [ding] :)
    Wol Euler: _/|\_
    Eliza Madrigal: Thank you everyone
Wol Euler: that was a veyr subtle little ding
    Wol Euler: (the bell's)
    Agatha Macbeth: 0.0
Agatha Macbeth: Subtle is good I find
Eden Haiku: The 5 minutes went by so fast :)
Bruce Mowbray: especially subtle when one has one's speakers turned off, as my typist did.
    Wol Euler: heheh
Eliza Madrigal: it did seem to :::takes a deep breath::::
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah
Wol Euler: I fell asleep :(
    Agatha Macbeth: Again?
    Wol Euler: yeah
Bruce Mowbray: working too hard, Wol....
Eliza Madrigal: not recovered from jet lag?
Zen Arado: I sit for half an hour usually
Zen Arado: an hour at weekends
Wol Euler: dunno, I wasn't aware of being tired until we were sitting just now
Zen Arado: an hour is great
Zen Arado: get into it better
    Agatha Macbeth: Ben thinks so

    bruce eliza santa hats_006.png

Bruce Mowbray: Ahhh! This week's theme -- catching yourself unaware!
Eliza Madrigal: maybe body couldn't get through the 'doing' of the day
Zen Arado: I don't get that
Bruce Mowbray: Don't get what, Zen?
    Zen Arado: catching yourself unaware
Eden Haiku: Just breathed end enjoyed sitting in a circle of dear friends in Ireland and Illinois, in Miami and Germany. felt connected to you all, eyes closed, in front of my desktop.
Zen Arado: what does it mean?
Bruce Mowbray: I probably stated it incorrectly --- looks pitifully to Eliza for guidance.
Eliza Madrigal: (((Eden))) thank you... yes pausing with you all settled me a lot too.. feeling appreciation rather than jumpiness now
    Zen Arado: pabese
Wol Euler: I understand it as "every now and then, ask yourself 'what did I just do, and why did I do it?'"
Zen Arado: a strange language ;)
Bruce Mowbray: Maybe I confused the two weeks' themes?
Bruce Mowbray runs to grab wiki of guardians' mtg....
Zen Arado: sounds extremely introverted :)

Eliza Madrigal: nice to have new language for contemplative things....
Agatha Macbeth: It was a good meeting yesterday
    Zen Arado: amost OCD
Eliza Madrigal: otherwise one thinks they know what they are doing :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Not me
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
Zen Arado: why did I say that? scratches head
Zen Arado: why did I scratch head ?
    Eden Haiku: :)
    Zen Arado: :)
Zen Arado: see what I mean?

Agatha Macbeth: Is it snowing in Montreal Edie?
Eliza Madrigal: this wasn't PaBese anyway... an idea from Eos... who i think practices such a thing while on walks in the morning
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

    bruce eliza santa hats_007.png

Eden Haiku: Zen seems to be as zen as he used to be :-)
    Bruce Mowbray: ha ha!
Bruce Mowbray loves Zen being Zen.
    Eliza Madrigal: agrees
    Wol Euler smiles.
Eden Haiku: yes, snowing excatly like here:) But snow on the ground.
Zen Arado: Zen can only be Zen
    Agatha Macbeth: Yay

Bruce Mowbray: This is .... ELEPHANTASTIC !!

    Bruce Mowbray: /_/ I I I I
    Bruce Mowbray: I__I I__I
    Agatha Macbeth: Ellie!

Eliza Madrigal: would be nice for the snow to pile up a little here
Bruce Mowbray: I can do that.
Agatha Macbeth: I'm sure Stormy can arrange it
    Zen Arado: it usually does
Zen Arado: as long as it doesn't in RL
    Eliza Madrigal: ooooooo
Zen Arado: electric wheelchaors and snow don't mix
Agatha Macbeth: I catch your drift
    Zen Arado: heheh
Eliza Madrigal: thanks to whomever is doing that
    Bruce Mowbray: ha ha!
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
    Bruce Mowbray: Tis moi, alas.
Wol Euler: oh, I thought it was you :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Brucie
    Wol Euler: ah
    Wol Euler: skating season!
Agatha Macbeth: Get yer skates on...oh you have
Eden Haiku: Oh! I have a pair of skates somewhere in inventory too :)
Eliza Madrigal: my fav time of the year here

    --BELL--

Bruce Mowbray: omg, I sure hope my skates didn't shrink as much as my sweater did.
    Eliza Madrigal: oops :)

Eliza Madrigal: [ding] :) thank you
    Wol Euler: _/|\_
    Agatha Macbeth: Bong
    Zen Arado: _/!\_

Eliza Madrigal: "For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others." Nelson Mandela
Eden Haiku: Great quote Eliza :)
    Wol Euler nods.
Eliza Madrigal: inspiring... wish SL was more advanced and avatars might gather to watch the services tomorrow
Bruce Mowbray: How can I walk in ice skates? This is ridiculous.
Bruce Mowbray looks for another pair of skates.
Eliza Madrigal: can't skate on the grass, Bruce?
Agatha Macbeth: With great diddiculty usually

Wol Euler: yu need a skating AO!

Eliza Madrigal: :)) I think everyone spent the pause looking for skates, hahaha
    Agatha Macbeth: Difficulty too
    Wol Euler: heheheh
Eden Haiku: Oh, that would be wonderful. I thought it was on Sunday the 15th?
Eliza Madrigal: my impression is that it begins tomorrow
Eliza Madrigal: the presidents are flying out today

    bruce eliza santa hats_008.png

Zen Arado: "Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains. One man thinks himself the master of others, but remains more of a slave than they are."
    Zen Arado: Rousseau
    Agatha Macbeth: Ow

Eden Haiku: Ubuntu is such an inspiring practice...
    Eliza Madrigal: indeed... no baggage
Agatha Macbeth: Doesn't crash much either
    Eliza Madrigal: :P

Bruce Mowbray wonders why his skates won't skate.
Eliza Madrigal: AO missing, probably, Bruce
    Agatha Macbeth: Maybe non-skating skates?
Bruce Mowbray: as his typist thinks, "A metaphor of my life, alas."

Eliza Madrigal: Eden, is your brother's place restored now?
Bruce Mowbray listens for more from Eden.
Agatha Macbeth: Did she doze off during the pause?
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Zen Arado: suddenly realizes he knows a lot od Canadians
Bruce Mowbray: It has been done before.
Eden Haiku: Not yet. He will be living in Montreal's area for a year , They start the construction of his house by the lake during the winter but it's very cold up there and it will take many months. It's 4 stories high...
    Zen Arado: in SL
Bruce Mowbray: Also, know a lot of Canadians has been done before.
    Eliza Madrigal: oh, goodness
    Agatha Macbeth: Good lord
Zen Arado: more than any other nationality
Bruce Mowbray: OMG! a four-storey house!?
    Wol Euler raises an eyebrow.
Wol Euler: I'm not sure "house" is the right word for a four-storey building by a lake :)
    Wol Euler grins.
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Bruce Mowbray: "Tower"?
Agatha Macbeth: Sounds like an apartment building
    Wol Euler: try "palace", perhaps?
Eliza Madrigal: am sure it is cozy :)
    Wol Euler: a cozy palace
Eliza Madrigal: or will be again
    Zen Arado: 'grand' more apt?
    Wol Euler: sorry, being silly.
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Never
Eden Haiku: Overlooking huge lake. As it burnt down to ashes, my brother & his wife are also reconstructing themselves. They lost computers, photos, memeentos. Everything...
Bruce Mowbray: shame shame double shame - everybopdy knows your name....
Eliza Madrigal: think of the amazing retreats that could be had in such a place
    Agatha Macbeth: Of course
    Bruce Mowbray: and everybody, also.
Wol Euler: oh, eden. sorry I laughed, I didn'T know that part
    Wol Euler: that's terrible
Bruce Mowbray: Oh my, I did not know this , Eden.
Eliza Madrigal: that has to be such a devastating thing to go through - I apologize for not giving context
    Zen Arado: devastating
Eliza Madrigal: am terrible about quizzing Eden to try to catch up, whenever she arrives
Bruce Mowbray: But it sounds like it's been resurrected - like a phoenix -- and in spades!

    bruce eliza santa hats_009.png

Agatha Macbeth: Lives tend to be harder to rebuild than houses
Eliza Madrigal: we're so entangled with our places
    Wol Euler nods.
Eliza Madrigal: I've learned that this year, more than I realized

    --BELL--

    Eliza Madrigal: [ding]
    Bruce Mowbray: Amazing reach!
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Eliza Madrigal: wonder woman powers
Agatha Macbeth: The long arm of the Liz

Eden Haiku: Oh, no worries :) I'm so happy my brother feels better now. He was very depressed for a while. But he's resilient and he is going to have two new grand-children in the next few months. It helps a lot.
    Wol Euler: Mrs. Incredible
    Agatha Macbeth: Good heavens
Eliza Madrigal: lovely - two? twins?
Eliza Madrigal: many new memories to be made
Eden Haiku: No, he has two daughters and both of them got pregnant :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Wow
Eliza Madrigal: oh :)) you all will have your hands full
Eden Haiku: Children do bring a lot of happiness.
Agatha Macbeth: Imagine if they are born on the same day
    Eliza Madrigal: they can, yes
Eden Haiku: My nephew's wife is also pregnant:)
    Eliza Madrigal: omgoodness!
Bruce Mowbray: HOW do these things happen!?
    Agatha Macbeth: Ommmm goodness
Eden Haiku: Ah no, one baby is due at the end of January, another one in June and the last I'm not sure :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Aww

Eliza Madrigal: I was listening to a talk today...and the speaker mentioned that God is always birthing... lol... which sounds odd out of context
Bruce Mowbray: God = Generative Principle ?
Eliza Madrigal: but the idea was just life blooming life

Eden Haiku: We had our share of deaths this year...
    Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Zon!
Eliza Madrigal: yes, the speaker used the word God but with the addendum that the word is rather antiquated or too filled with ideas of what people think they know
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly7W...ature=youtu.be )

    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Zon :)
Agatha Macbeth: In one end out the other
    Wol Euler: hello zon
    Zon Kwan: heya
    Zen Arado: Hi Zon
Eden Haiku: So the babies being born remind us life is a cycle...
    Eliza Madrigal: mhm :)
Bruce Mowbray ponders the Gospel of John's
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello Zon
Zen Arado: not an old man in the sky?
Bruce Mowbray: Logos" -- by which everything was made and without which nothing was made (to quote the gospel).
Zen Arado: no that's Santa Claus
Eliza Madrigal: my oldest is nearly graduating college, and younger daughter says she will move at end of school year... sigh... yes cycles...

    Eliza Madrigal: ooh, brb door
    Bruce Mowbray: Dear ol' Santa!
    Agatha Macbeth: It's the mormons
Bruce Mowbray: kk, no problem, dear Eliza.
Eden Haiku: The ebb and flow of life :)

    bruce eliza santa hats_010.png

Zen Arado: was thinking I would like to go on a retreat and re-emerge in January when all the Christmas stuff is over
    Wol Euler: ha, yess
    Agatha Macbeth: That's some pause
    Bruce Mowbray: ME TOO< ZEN!
    Wol Euler: mini-hibernation
Bruce Mowbray: and I will do exactly that!
    Zen Arado: just a month
    Zen Arado: would do
Eden Haiku: I love the Mormon missionaries :)
Eden Haiku: They are ignorant but so sweet :)
Zen Arado: yeh I used to neteryain them
Zen Arado: but they get angry if you don't get converted
Bruce Mowbray feels left out because no Mormon missionaries come to his typist's farm.
    Agatha Macbeth ponders neteryaining someone
    Zen Arado: neteryain?
    Zen Arado: :)

Eliza Madrigal: back, apologies... a book arrived that, now thumbing through, looks way too scholarly to actually read ^.^
Agatha Macbeth: Sounds like an israeli president
Bruce Mowbray: Great! a new book!
    Agatha Macbeth: Ooh
Zen Arado: they have great teeth
    Eliza Madrigal reads back
Bruce Mowbray: You're up to it, Eliza!
Zen Arado: no tea or coffee
    Agatha Macbeth: Academic Lizzie
Eden Haiku: Entertaining president Neteryian :)
    Agatha Macbeth: :)
Bruce Mowbray: Read and paraphrase for us, Lizzie.
    Wol Euler smiles.
Eliza Madrigal: yes...in my free time...hehehe
Zen Arado: I never buy paper books now
Eden Haiku: And they are all ready in case of a catastrophe. :)
    Zen Arado: totally Kindlefied
    Bruce Mowbray loves "Kindlefied."
Eliza Madrigal: not all books can be found on kindle...such as this one
    Zen Arado: true
Bruce Mowbray: (as an adjective, I mean).
    Agatha Macbeth: Firestorm for kindle
Zen Arado: buy the odd one

    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: Will keep the pause shorter..since toward end of session
    Eliza Madrigal: [ding] :)

    Agatha Macbeth: Er, no
Bruce Mowbray: ah yes, I remember those.
    Zen Arado: nope :)

    Eliza Madrigal: yes!
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh Stretch Armstong?
    Eliza Madrigal: YES
    Bruce Mowbray: yeppers.

Bruce Mowbray: There are two kinds of people in the world....
Wol Euler: must be after my time
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
    Wol Euler grins.
Bruce Mowbray: .... those who reach out to ring the bowl...
Bruce Mowbray: and those who bring the bowl to themselves.
    Eliza Madrigal: ^^

Eden Haiku: Wondering if I can skate ith a cup of Hot apple tea in my hand?

    Eliza Madrigal: :))
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah great
Eliza Madrigal: for now the grass is surprisingly friendly to it
Bruce Mowbray wishes he knew where he could find skates like that.

Eliza Madrigal: It is strange to come into SL when one hasn't been in a while
Eliza Madrigal: like one forgets how
Agatha Macbeth: Yes and see all the abandoned land
    Eliza Madrigal: yes... especially now...
    Eliza Madrigal: many desolate places

Wol Euler: I was never very good at it though
Agatha Macbeth: I'm way too clumsy for that kinda thing
Eliza Madrigal: aw...am sure you could do it
Eliza Madrigal: the clumsiness is part of the fun sometimes anyway
Agatha Macbeth: Ice of you to say so :p
    Eliza Madrigal: :P :P :P
    Wol Euler: arf arf arf

It was a busy session so I neglected to answer Bruce's question re "catching oneself in the act." The way i hear the challenge is to take a meta-perspective while going about 'normal' activities. It isn't the same as navel-gazing or OCD or even self-examination, because it isn't like analyzing using psychology tools. Rather it is like stepping or slipping into awareness without breaking the spell of daily routines and conversations. So not splitting off but rather allowing for awareness to infuse attention. The closest example I would have is dreaming and then going lucid within dreaming, but I'm not sure if that's exactly what Eos meant. My example for today is that a short while ago a situation came up that was a bit distressing but when I simply thought about this practice challenge, shrunk in comparison to the awareness that held the distress. I wasn't trying to get rid of the distress, but it was like "Being Seeing," which held the whole situation as well as 'me' in a widened context. I can still remember the situation that from one angle remains unresolved, but it isn't 'real' in the same way.

    As Wol would say FWIW/YMMV ;-) edited 01:49, 10 Dec 2013
