Riddle Sideways: Happy New Year, Listener Master!
                  --BELL--
Riddle Sideways: Happy New Years, QT
Qt Core: Happy new year, Riddle

Riddle Sideways: long time no chat
Riddle Sideways: it is that slow part of the year for reflection
Riddle Sideways: reviewing a year gone
Qt Core: slw ? what were, is it contagious ? ;-)
Riddle Sideways: reading the year end magazines
Riddle Sideways: reading stories that were missed in the other busy ness
Riddle Sideways: ah, you are one of those that thinks time is constant :)
Qt Core: not really but i was never a fan of new year (or new year eve parties)
Qt Core: most used to my own birthday or the coming back from summer leave as a defining/restart point
Qt Core: never made resolution, not even in those other dates as i know how they end ;-)
Riddle Sideways: yes, each person and group puts a mark on a calendar as to when start and restart happen
Riddle Sideways: Imagining those first persons
Riddle Sideways: putting a mark on the cave wall
Riddle Sideways: for each day and the first snow or whatever
Riddle Sideways: not sure why they did not mark the year by 13 moon cycles.
Qt Core: many did, but it is less precise and would shift months around the seasons
Qt Core: there would be a big cycle of about 19 (solar) years to manage if i remember it right
Qt Core: not that the solar one is perfect, with the fourth of a day we miss each year, with the february 29s coming and going
                  --BELL--
Riddle Sideways: that cave wall must have had a lot of marks on it.
Riddle Sideways: would have taken a long time to know about needing to add a day each 4 years
Qt Core: and even more to have a civilization complex enough to need such a precision in a calendar
Riddle Sideways: and get other communities to agree on a single calendar
Qt Core: a religious war would solve that, usually...
Riddle Sideways: and some mighty Roman Emporer to name one of the months
Riddle Sideways: thankfully, they did that work and we can just use it now
Riddle Sideways: well, some still argue of a leap second
Qt Core: there were a few in last decades, but they aren't regularly scheduled, scientists announce them when needed
Riddle Sideways: there are those that take that very serious and do that job for the rest of us
Riddle Sideways: Happy New Years, Agatha
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello folks
    Qt Core: Hi Agatha

    Agatha Macbeth: You too dear
Agatha Macbeth: Tho we're not quite there yet :p
    Riddle Sideways: getting there
Agatha Macbeth: I see we survived the rolling restarts today ;-)
Riddle Sideways: usually hits here on Wednesdays now
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah, right
Agatha Macbeth: I know Zen was always plagued by them
Riddle Sideways: was tuesdays for a couple years
    Agatha Macbeth: Yes
Agatha Macbeth: Never quite understood the concept behind those I must admit
                  --BELL--
Agatha Macbeth: I mean if the sim isn't functioning properly, surely the owner will restart it?
Riddle Sideways: is like the concept of a calendar. We might not understand how it came to be, but glad it works
    Agatha Macbeth nods
Qt Core: maybe there are some configuration parameter tweaking or minor upgrades... and SL may be more interested in smooth operations more than the owners
    Agatha Macbeth: Could be
Agatha Macbeth: All too technical for me
Riddle Sideways: some people who cared, watched that a regular restart befor trouble was a good thing
Riddle Sideways: studied it for the optimal time before crash
Agatha Macbeth: In that case I'm glad they do it ;-)
Riddle Sideways: they do it for you. and it is taken care of
Agatha Macbeth: Guess they know a lot more about it than me, so...
    Agatha Macbeth: Mmm
Agatha Macbeth: The hand of God
Riddle Sideways: you know more about something else and take care of that for them
Riddle Sideways: the village gets by
Agatha Macbeth: They can contact me anytime
Riddle Sideways: a little notification maybe ni the upper right that the world is all better now :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah, good
Agatha Macbeth: Like someone I know often says 'It's all perfect'
Riddle Sideways: and the last box on this year's calendar gets ex'ed off
Riddle Sideways: put up a new calendar in its place
Riddle Sideways: notice that there is one more or less day in this one
Agatha Macbeth: I prefer lunar calendars myself
Qt Core: i'm not even used yet to write 2013, i wrote 2012 in a date justa couple weeks ago!
Riddle Sideways: not notice if there is a leap second this year
Agatha Macbeth: Next one is 2016 I think
Riddle Sideways: good, will start writing 2016 on stuff
Agatha Macbeth: Yeh be ahead of your time
Riddle Sideways: oops, mixed 2 threads
Agatha Macbeth: You can always colour them differently
Riddle Sideways: Happy New Years, Zon
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello Zon
    Zon Kwan: hi, and likewise
    Qt Core: Hi Zon

Agatha Macbeth watches the snow fall
Riddle Sideways: fun to contemplate calendars, but nice to watch snow falling too
Agatha Macbeth: It works for me
Riddle Sideways: at peace with the idea somebody really cared enough to make a calendar accurately for the rest of us
Agatha Macbeth: But calendars can be such arbitrary things anyway
Qt Core: it was fun to notice how people went crazy last yera about the mayan end of time when it was only a (ok, major) new year, like our own 1999/2000
                  --BELL--
Agatha Macbeth: I'm sure the Mayans were gratified that we 'superior' people took any notice of them!
Riddle Sideways: a lot of fuss over the calendar making Mayan who just quit making new pages-calendars
Agatha Macbeth: A new age thing maybe
Qt Core: more like old style ignorance and the need for a little drama by the media ;-)
Agatha Macbeth: Oh the media are good at it :p
Zon Kwan: or another cosmic cycle
    Agatha Macbeth: Yes Zon
    Riddle Sideways: lots of cycles
Qt Core: i "love" when something (new and) bad happen and comes to the media, and abruptly all media discover that that kind of things happen everyday
Riddle Sideways: cosmic cycles, sim restarts, yearly calendars
Agatha Macbeth: No news is good news :)
Qt Core: and for weeks only that kind of bad happen
    Agatha Macbeth: Rottweilers, etc
Qt Core: yeah, the rottweilers conspiracy!
    Agatha Macbeth: Heh
Agatha Macbeth: And the pit bulls
Qt Core: or ald age people been robbed, or the meat contamination, etc etc
    Qt Core: *old
    Agatha Macbeth grins
Agatha Macbeth: This is probably why I never read newspapers or watch TV any more
Qt Core: on a side note i don't know how i would like reading.viewing everyday about all the b ad things that happen...
    Agatha Macbeth: Just don't :)
    Agatha Macbeth: It's surprisimgly easy...
    Agatha Macbeth: And surprisingly too
    Agatha Macbeth slaps her keyboard
Qt Core: but still i dislike this treatment, like there are season in bad think like in fashion
    Agatha Macbeth: Agreed QT
Qt Core: *things (think-things, one of my fav and more common typos)
Agatha Macbeth: If one doesn't have something worth saying why say it?
    Agatha Macbeth: Hehe
Agatha Macbeth: Yes, getting dark here that's my excuse :p
Qt Core: to fill the daily paranoia quota
Agatha Macbeth: Ok guys, I must awa the noo
Agatha Macbeth: Happy NY and all that
    Agatha Macbeth: Take care
Qt Core: bye Agatha, have fun
Zon Kwan: bye all and happy new year
                  --BELL--
Riddle Sideways: need to exit, thank and have a good new year
Qt Core: ok, you too, Riffle
    Qt Core: Riddle
