Pila Mulligan: well, how about a little (true) story?

Pila Mulligan: when I was younger I used to enjoy swiming out in the ocean

Pila Mulligan: a favorite place was about 500 yards or so offshore from a popular beach
Pila Mulligan: the water was fairly deep there, but it was clean and usually had good visibilty ...
Pila Mulligan: one day while I was swiming there a humpback whale came along, they are common in summer
Pila Mulligan: this one was a big adult, and I was treading water, watching the whale
Pila Mulligan: it swam up fairly close, about twenty feet away then it lifted its head up to the surface and lowered its tail downward, swishing its tail slowly ...
Pila Mulligan: it took me a moment to see that the whale was imitating my treading water posture :)
