Wol Euler: pretty well, thanks, migraine is better.

    Wol Euler smiles
Bertram Jacobus: and here ... it's getting better as it seems - at last (!) ... :-)

    --BELL--

    Wol Euler: hello zon
    Zon Quar: hi!
Bertram Jacobus: hey zon ! :-)
Wol Euler: hello agatha, happy new year
    Zon Quar: hi agatha
Bertram Jacobus: hi agatha ... :-)
Agatha Macbeth: Hi Wol same 2 U :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Hi Berty
    Bertram Jacobus: :-)
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello Zon
Agatha Macbeth: Where did your hair go Bert?
Bertram Jacobus: cut ? or simply not worn today ? ;-) sl - possibilities ... :-))
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah, I see......
Wol Euler nods. There is no good crewcut style prim hair in SL
Wol Euler: except as part of a skin, like Bert's
Agatha Macbeth: Bert the skinhead :)
Agatha Macbeth: Is he wearing Doc Martens?
    Wol Euler giggles
Agatha Macbeth: Did everyone have a good Xmas?
Wol Euler: very good thanks, and you?
    Bertram Jacobus harrumphs ;o)
    Zon Quar: yes ty
    Agatha Macbeth: Yeah, great
Agatha Macbeth: Stop harumphing Bert :)
    Bertram Jacobus: i don't celebrate much ...
    Agatha Macbeth: I'll bet
Bertram Jacobus: already my father didn't. so i may have learned this from him ...
    Bertram Jacobus: hey eliza ! ... :-)
Agatha Macbeth: You can pick up bad habits from yer parents :)
    Wol Euler: hello eliza
    Zon Quar: hi eliza
    Agatha Macbeth: Hi Eliza :)
Wol Euler: "they fuck you up, your mum and dad/they may not mean to but they do"
Bertram Jacobus: and a canadian once gave me the name "party pooper" - i took it like an honour and never forgot ... :o)
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh yes
    Wol Euler: true, bert
Agatha Macbeth: That's Canadians for you!
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi!
    Zon Quar: but,,,
Agatha Macbeth: Speaking of which how was Toronto Wol?

    --BELL--

Wol Euler: warm and rainy :(
    Agatha Macbeth: No snow?
Bertram Jacobus: my associations with canada are quite well ... big country, nice people ... prosperity ...
    Wol Euler: none, just rain
    Bertram Jacobus: hey qt ! ... :-)
Agatha Macbeth: We had a fair bit here
    Qt Core: hi all
    Agatha Macbeth: Hi QT :)
    Zon Quar: qt
Bertram Jacobus: so we have the snow now in germany ...
Wol Euler: hello qt, happy new year
Qt Core: ty, happy new year to you, you all
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Qt
    Agatha Macbeth: HNY QT

Bertram introduces the first serious topic.

Bertram Jacobus: i saw the movie "avatar" today and got a new kick towards finding more future in virtual worlds then in the old one ... ;-)
Qt Core: topic ? beside wheather ?
Agatha Macbeth: You seem unusually quiet Eliza ;)
    Wol Euler nods.
Eliza Madrigal: The world of Pandora was pretty fascinating :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hah, Agatha... guess I'm still waking
Agatha Macbeth: oooh, how's her box?
Eliza Madrigal: Also, being attentive this year... part of my resolution not to type as fast as I'm able all the time
    Eliza Madrigal: hah
Wol Euler: huh, an interesting resolution.
Qt Core: i think we would get that movie on the 15.... but then i don't go to the cinema a lot ;-)
Agatha Macbeth: I have heard good reports about it
Wol Euler: Avatar is probably very much worth seeing in the cinema on a wide screen rather than on TV
Wol Euler: hello zen, happy new year
Eliza Madrigal: I think it is worth it. I don't rush out to the movies often, but this was something I could see with all three kids at various ages
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Zen
Agatha Macbeth: A friend of mine said the very same thing Wol
    Zon Quar: zen
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello Zen, HNY
    Zen Arado: Hi All
Qt Core: that wol is one of the few reason i still go to the cinama now and then
Bertram Jacobus: i don't go much to the cinema too, but i heard so many good things about it - and can say, that was all right
Eliza Madrigal nods... some beautiful strings in that movie

Zen arrives, in a new outfit, and the conversation shifts.

    Qt Core: hi Zen
Wol Euler: you look very festive, Zen.
Zen Arado: needed a change I guess :)
    Eliza Madrigal: yes, wow, yellow!
Bertram Jacobus: hey zen ... :-)
Zen Arado: Bert told me I was too dowdy :)
    Wol Euler laughs!
    Agatha Macbeth: Yellow is festive?
    Zen Arado: cream
Qt Core: so few people wearing lighter colors in sl
    Agatha Macbeth: Cream then
Bertram Jacobus: nono - i said "serious" ! *protest* ;o)
    Wol Euler: heheheh
Agatha Macbeth: When are you ever serious?
Qt Core: (if not in "weird" av)
    Zen Arado: seriously weird !
    Zen Arado: I am :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hm... butter
Qt Core: much better than silly weird ;-)
    Agatha Macbeth: Me too!
Agatha Macbeth: Let's form a group Zen
    Agatha Macbeth: SL weirdos
Zen Arado: thought we did :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh
Eliza Madrigal: that would be an active group
Qt Core: compulsory partecipation for every sl user ;-)
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
    Agatha Macbeth: Sure would
Zen Arado: what is 'weird' anyway?
Wol Euler: people would show their membership by wearing *no* tag
    Agatha Macbeth: Me :)
    Zen Arado: philosopher mode again
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
Eliza Madrigal: what about a tag that says, 'no tag'
    Eliza Madrigal: or 'label-less'
    Agatha Macbeth: I like that!
Qt Core: or a tab tag
Bertram Jacobus: the dicionary finds 12 german words for weird ... ;-)
    Agatha Macbeth: The 'anonymous' group
    Agatha Macbeth: Only 12 bert?
Agatha Macbeth: Wonder how many Japanese has?
Zen Arado: everuone else is weird - I am normal
Bertram Jacobus: yes. so one is not lost so fast agatha ...
Agatha Macbeth: Yeah *sure* Zen :)
Zen Arado: I am the only normal one
    Agatha Macbeth: :) Bert
Bertram Jacobus: no. sorry : i'm a bit normal, too ;-)

    Age, appearance and normality.

Qt Core: in places like sl weirdness is being not weird
Agatha Macbeth: Oh no you ain't :)
Wol Euler: having a RL-realistic shape and skin and clothes is "wierd" here.
    Agatha Macbeth: Yes
Agatha Macbeth: What would be the point?
Wol Euler: looking old and fat and wrinkly (and bald, for the guys)
Bertram Jacobus: may be weird is in the mind of the spectator ...
Zen Arado: well I'm not fat at least :)
Agatha Macbeth: weirdness is in the eye of the beholder.........
    Wol Euler: :)
Eliza Madrigal: I think I'd like that as an option, actually... one of many
Wol Euler: Gaya made an old-woman av, looked quite good.
Wol Euler: and really stood out in the crowd
Eliza Madrigal: I did try once, but mine just looked tired
Agatha Macbeth: And now she's a 2D cat!
Zen Arado: old skins are old in the wrong way for me

    --BELL--

    Agatha Macbeth: Cute, Wol :)
Zen Arado: they dump women news presenters when they get over 50 here in the UK
    Zen Arado: but not men
Agatha Macbeth: So that's why I haven't seen Angela Rippon lately....
Qt Core: yeah, the firsts become old and the latter wise
Zen Arado: or what's her name ...Ford
    Agatha Macbeth: Anna
Zen Arado: ah yes forgot her already :)
Agatha Macbeth: They were icons in their day
    Wol Euler nods
    Zen Arado: it isn't fair
Zen Arado: we lose their wisdom
Agatha Macbeth: Angela even appeared on Morecambe and Wise!
Eliza Madrigal: Well, if Miami is any indication, men are having nearly as much plastic surgery and the standards will soon be just as screwy ;-)
Qt Core: even shows host... i think we are around the 50 years (of work) celebration for the longest working one here (Pippo Baudo)
    Agatha Macbeth: Mmm
    Wol Euler: huh
    Zen Arado: ageism
    Agatha Macbeth: Dispicable!
Zen Arado: wait till you get to my age
    Wol Euler: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: No thanks :)
Zen Arado: you will find out
Agatha Macbeth: Ooooh me back Mildred
    Zen Arado: getting bitter :(
Eliza Madrigal used to add years onto her age so people would listen to her online, can go in many directions :)
Agatha Macbeth: Take deep breaths Zen
    Wol Euler nods to Eliza
Qt Core: usual perfect timing in rl, i have to go
    Zen Arado: bye Qt
Wol Euler: bye qt, take care
    Eliza Madrigal: :)Bye qt
Bertram Jacobus: bye qt - have a good time !
    Qt Core: bye all
Agatha Macbeth: Aaaw, c ya QT
Zen Arado: have to acept these things
Zen Arado: it ain't fro cissies
Eliza Madrigal: and play with them :)
Bertram Jacobus: how old are you zen ?
    Zen Arado: 66
Agatha Macbeth: A woman once told Groucho Marx she was approaching 40. He asked 'from which direction?'
Bertram Jacobus: ah - thats a bit older then i ... interesting ...
    Zen Arado: :)
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
Eliza Madrigal: 'inside of a dog it is too dark to read'
    Wol Euler: O.O
Wol Euler: now there's a saying with wide applicability.
    Eliza Madrigal: hahaha
Agatha Macbeth: Having said that Eliza, I'm just going to turn my lights on :)
Zen Arado: he wouldn't oin any clubs that would accept the like of him:)

Good and bad sides of ageing.

Bertram Jacobus: didn't the buddha say : to get old, to be ill and to die - that were the sufferings of life ? ...
Zen Arado: you must live in UK Agatha?
Agatha Macbeth: Yes indeed Zen :)
Agatha Macbeth: Tho I'd rather be in Japan :)
Zen Arado: I live in N'Ireland
Agatha Macbeth: Ah to be sure...
    Agatha Macbeth: Belfast?
Zen Arado: no that is the way they talk int the South :)
Wol Euler nods to Bert. But the terrors of age are not about numbers. Terry Pratchett has Alzheimers and is only 61
    Zen Arado: Carrickfergus
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh
    Zen Arado: near Belfast
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh right Zen
Agatha Macbeth: Sorry to hear that Wol
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Wol Euler: I find the boundary of "old" is steadily receding as I approach it.
Zen Arado: yes - he talks about it on TV
    Agatha Macbeth: grins @ Wol
Zen Arado: yes it does that Wol :)
Eliza Madrigal: 60 is the new 40
    Wol Euler: right
Agatha Macbeth: The unwinnable war aginst Anno Domini
Zen Arado: it is true too
    Zen Arado: ppl living longer
Eliza Madrigal: well it does seem to be... in many ways, yes
Zen Arado: actually I am hapier now than when I was young
    Wol Euler: definitely!
    Agatha Macbeth: Yes, me too
Bertram Jacobus: great zen ! very nice to hear (read) ! ... :-)
Wol Euler: so many apparent problems just fall away
Agatha Macbeth: Or you just stop caring....
    Zen Arado: appreciate your life
Bertram Jacobus: yes. not so much to reach anymore, to proove ...
    Zen Arado: still learning though
Agatha Macbeth: Oh you never stop learning
    Wol Euler nods.
Agatha Macbeth: That's unless you think you know it all already :)

    Worrying. And football.

Eliza Madrigal: this holiday season I was struck remembering how much worry I used to put into every little detail... not sure if it is age or just passing of stages that it is quite different now
Agatha Macbeth: Plenty of those about
Agatha Macbeth: I worry too much about little things and consequently miss the big picture
Eliza Madrigal: Of course, others remind you... "Where are your lights?" as though saying "Look, we're all still playing this game you can't leave!"

    --BELL--

Agatha Macbeth: I just put mine on!
    Eliza Madrigal grins
Zen Arado: my football team were beaten earlier
    Zen Arado: :(
Eliza Madrigal: We decorated a little... just not quite caught up in the frenzy of the rest of the neighborhood
Zen Arado: coming to terms with that
    Agatha Macbeth: Which one Zen?
    Zen Arado: Man UNited
    Agatha Macbeth: They lost?
    Zen Arado: of course
    Agatha Macbeth: Wow
    Eliza Madrigal: of course?
Zen Arado: put put of FA cup bby Leeds
Zen Arado: they are the best
Agatha Macbeth: Can concentrate on Europe now Zen :)
    Wol Euler: :)
    Zen Arado: of course :)
    Zen Arado: thanks Agatha
Agatha Macbeth: I'm a Spurs fan
    Zen Arado: oh
Agatha Macbeth: Now *that* is suffering
Zen Arado: they are doing well this season
Agatha Macbeth: By their standards ;)
Agatha Macbeth: (Eliza doesn't have a clue what we're on about)
    Wol Euler laughs.
Zen Arado: yes sorry it is boring for others
Eliza Madrigal actually loves to watch football (soccer) and was trying to remember the guy from France at the World Cup years ago
    Agatha Macbeth: Guy from France?
Eliza Madrigal: I tried unsuccessfully for 3 years to make my son into an enjoyer of the sport...
    Eliza Madrigal: Zidane
    Wol Euler: ah, yes
Agatha Macbeth: Oh yeah, old Zinedine
Wol Euler: the bad sport. Didn't he punch a referee?
Eliza Madrigal: I was in a hotel in Orlando... it was raining and I spent the day watching...
Zen Arado: ah the guy who gave the head to someone
Agatha Macbeth: Also got sent off in WC Final
    Zen Arado: yes
Eliza Madrigal: yes was quite a moment
Agatha Macbeth: But the player did insult his mother, so deserved it
    Wol Euler snorts
    Eliza Madrigal: its remarkable....
    Agatha Macbeth: And racist too
Bertram Jacobus: so many stages in soccer ! ...

    Emotions.

Eliza Madrigal: adults trained not to react
Eliza Madrigal: get to the hugest moments
    Eliza Madrigal: and poof...
Agatha Macbeth: Emotion is emotion Eliaz
    Zen Arado: like little boys...
    Eliza Madrigal nods
    Agatha Macbeth: or Eliza even
Zen Arado: but they are quite young
Eliza Madrigal: Little girls are good at it too, trust me :)
    Wol Euler nods
Agatha Macbeth: Eliaz? sounds like a character from the Old Testament
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
    Zen Arado: temper tantrums
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Agatha Macbeth: I still get those!
Eliza Madrigal: maybe tantrums aren't so bad, but the timing can be :)
Agatha Macbeth: Usually when I'm listening to politicians
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh yes!
Bertram Jacobus: i try to support politics
Bertram Jacobus: and not to hinder it
    Bertram Jacobus: the democratic chance
Agatha Macbeth: The trick is to stop it from hindering *you* Bert :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Zen Arado: they have to give people what they waht too
    Zen Arado: want
    Bertram Jacobus: i'm not so tricky ... or ? ... *thinking* ... hmm ... ;-)

Back to the film, "Avatar", considering the representation of good and evil.

Eliza Madrigal: yes, even with 'Avatar'... great film in so many ways, but very stark constrasts between "good guys" and "bad guys"
    Bertram Jacobus: yess
Eliza Madrigal: we need to get over that kind of thinking
Wol Euler: whereas life is often so confusingly muddled
Zen Arado: films are like that
    Zen Arado: simplistic
Eliza Madrigal: YES.. so anyone really thinking can't honestly participate
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Agatha Macbeth: You mean they don't wear black hats and white hats? *gasp*
Zen Arado: co s ppl like that
    Zen Arado: dualistic
Zen Arado: don't know if I am dualistic or not :)
Agatha Macbeth: Yul Brynner always wore a black hat but he was always the good guy
Agatha Macbeth: I really liked him
Eliza Madrigal: we function dualistically all the time but we don't have to perhaps
Agatha Macbeth: Getting towards Manicheanism then Zen?
Eliza Madrigal: yes I do like that now many children's books have anti-heroes too
Zen Arado: forget what that is ?
    Wol Euler: black-and-white-ism
Zen Arado: something to do with Aristotle?
Agatha Macbeth: Very dualistic Iranian religion
    Wol Euler: rather either-pure-black-or-pure-white-ism
    Zen Arado: ok
    Bertram Jacobus: pure ... ;-)
Agatha Macbeth: Wol will probably give you a link in a minute :)
Wol Euler: complete denial of grey zones
Eliza Madrigal: Thanks everyone. Have a lovely day :)
    Wol Euler: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manichaeism
    Wol Euler: :-P
    Agatha Macbeth: Told ya!
Wol Euler: bye eliza, take care
Bertram Jacobus: bye eliza same same please :-)
    Zen Arado: bye Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: Bye for now, thanks
Wol Euler has mad googling skillz.
Agatha Macbeth: Happy New Year Eliza
    Agatha Macbeth: We noticed Wol
    Zen Arado: bye for now
Zen Arado: yes - pointless actually knowing anything nowadays
Zen Arado: just Google it :)
Agatha Macbeth: Knowledge is never pointless Zen :0
Zen Arado: but you also need to know what to google
Wol Euler: knowing how to find out has *always* been more important than knowing facts, though

    --BELL--

    Agatha Macbeth: More difficult anyway
Wol Euler: that's why our generation was taught how to use libraries
Agatha Macbeth: As my mother always said 'It's not what you know it's who you know'
Zen Arado: true Agatha and Wol
    Zen Arado: better go
Wol Euler: and I too, alas, duty calls.
Agatha Macbeth: C ya Zen, sry about Man U
    Zen Arado: yes bye

Agatha Macbeth: Bye for now Wol, take care
    Agatha Macbeth: Go on then!
    Bertram Jacobus: lol

Agatha Macbeth: Yeah, they record everything you say!
    Agatha Macbeth: Like the CIA
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: hmm, I have been here few times. I see, it is recording ;)
Bertram Jacobus: the talks here are recorded and put on a wiki - so we have all to ask, if that's okay for them (you) ? :-)
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: but what about rules?
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: Ah, yes, its okey ;)
Bertram Jacobus: that was the thing i meant - with the accordance for the recording
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: no other rules ;) Okey ;D
Bertram Jacobus: sometimes my english may be misunderstandable - sry. no native speaker ...
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: its okey. I "got" it ;)
Agatha Macbeth: He pretends he can't speak English well :)
    Cosmicflower Ushimawa: *smiles*
Bertram Jacobus: and i forgot - where did we meet cos ? at the buddha land ? ... :-)
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: hmm, somewhere like that, or perhaps in Moon`s and Star`s meditations?
Bertram Jacobus: yes. possible ! :-)
Bertram Jacobus: the meeting here started at 7 am slt ... and mostly the meetings long one hour, so ... ;-)
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: so You two are left from meeting?
Agatha Macbeth: Uh huh, and I have to go now too....
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: Nice to meet you Agatha
Agatha Macbeth: So behave yourselves you 2 :)

Bertram Jacobus: i was a bit distracted i have to admit ... ;-)
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: distracted? have another words?
Bertram Jacobus: but something about age and about dualism and about vortual worlds ...
Bertram Jacobus: i had ims aside so i was not so aware sometimes of the talks here -
    Cosmicflower Ushimawa: ah
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: was it some group who arranged meeting?
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: or some people decised to meet?
Bertram Jacobus: it is the pab group - i can give you a notecard about it ...
    Cosmicflower Ushimawa: thanks

    --BELL--
