Our weekly guardian session was attended by 11 guardians:  Arabella, Eden, Eliza, Eos, Genesis, Liza, Maxine, Riddle, Storm, Wol, and Zen. Eliza posted this session with comments. :)

This session centered around posting/personalizing chat logs, scribes, the idea of a village cafe', a determination to gather in the pub, and Second Life demographics.

    Maxine Walden: invisibles?
Wol Euler: hello gen, zen, eos, maxine
Riddle Sideways: looks like those 2 races on Star Trek
    Liza Deischer: hi all
    Zen Arado: Hi Eliza:)
    Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: hehehehe, so many people have mentioned that episode
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Liza! Nice to have our newest guardian here today! :)
    Maxine Walden: hi, Storm
    Liza Deischer: it worked
Maxine Walden: hi, Eliza of the bells, and Liza
Eos Amaterasu: rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes :-)
    Zen Arado: Hi Liza, Storm
    Zen Arado: Hi Eden :)
    Maxine Walden: hi, Eden
    Adams Rubble is Offline
    Liza Deischer: hi Eden
    Eden Haiku: Good morning everyone.

    Maxine focuses the session...

Maxine Walden: Any guardian issues to bring up?
Eliza Madrigal: Well, Thanks Wol for posting quite a few sessions in the last few days....
    Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: including two of my own, sad to say. I'd been remiss
Eliza Madrigal: easy for guardians to fall bahind but really important to keep up if we can, especially since we have two new scribes starting.. Vendy and Geoff :)
Riddle Sideways: need to find an extra hour in the days
    Eliza Madrigal nods...
    Eliza Madrigal searches pockets
    Maxine Walden: :)), yes Riddle
Riddle Sideways: how do the rest of you find teh extra time to comment so nicely/throughly
    Wol Euler: http://xkcd.com/162/
Eliza Madrigal: I have to admit that for me, the 'paperwork' is rather calming/therapudic...
    Eos Amaterasu: sweet, Wol
    Liza Deischer: :-)
    Zen Arado: thanks Wol
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Eliza Madrigal: haha, great
Eden Haiku: Another cool device that can eat our time Wol...;-)
    Wol Euler: heheheheh
Zen Arado: I feel a bit reticent about making comments on chat logs
Riddle Sideways: remember, if you only spin one direction you and the world get swrewed up
    Maxine Walden: hesitant, Zen?
Zen Arado: feels a bit judgemental or something
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, but everyone understands its just your perspective...
Zen Arado: rather let the chat speak for itself ..do you see waht I mean?
    Zen Arado: yesh maybe...
Storm Nordwind: I think it's possible to peronalize without being judgmental
    Eliza Madrigal nods
    Storm Nordwind: *personalize
Zen Arado: ok ..just a feeling..
Eliza Madrigal: Some logs speak for themselves, and some miss long pauses or something that makes the log seem different than the meeting...
Eliza Madrigal: but your point is well taken, Zen
Maxine Walden: and somehow I think the reader of the chatlog appreciates the 'organization' of the commentator, his/her point of view
Riddle Sideways: we understand the feeling
    Wol Euler: agreed
Eliza Madrigal nods to Maxine, especially in a long session
Storm Nordwind: It's nice to feel a human hand on the tiller when reading a log. More warm and inviting maybe.
    Zen Arado: ok
    Eden Haiku: yes, I agree
Maxine Walden: but there is that inner voice, which I know well, which says 'who do you think you are to comment on the log?' That inner voice of self derision
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Riddle Sideways: you are Being commenting
Storm Nordwind: We are human beings, Maxine, expressing the delight we have in talking with friends :)
Zen Arado: I am amazed at how much I miss of the actual meeting when I read the log
Zen Arado: I am too slow
    Wol Euler nods
    Riddle Sideways: nods
Eden Haiku: I feel it is such a privilege to be able to comment, I try to epress 'the feeling' of the session the best way I can.
Eliza Madrigal: yes, that's how I feel too Eden... also maybe why it doesn't feel burdensome. It is play :) Celebration, in a sense
Riddle Sideways: needs to not correct too many of the typos, there are often the best part of chat
    Eliza Madrigal: haha, yes

Storm draws attention to the trickiness of Scribing...

Storm Nordwind: In a way, the scribe's job is far more difficult, especially if they take on what has become the current style of seleecting excerpts. What to select? What to leave out?
    Eliza Madrigal: Yes!!
Eden Haiku: I read the chat logs a lot, and I enjoy them, espaceillay when there are comments.
    Maxine Walden: good point, Storm
Eliza Madrigal often feels quite emotional leaving things out of the scribes. One hopes to give enough of a taste that readers will follow their interest
Storm Nordwind: That is why, when I did the scribe job for a while, I took an entirely different approach, of weaving a story - a fantasy - around the proceedings. But it got too much effort and it was 5 hours minimum for me to do it that way.
Zen Arado: a lot of work Storm
Eliza Madrigal: yes, that's writing a small book each time... They are lovely scribes though, nice to read over
Maxine Walden: yes, Storm, I appreciated your efforts, tho that much time can feel burdensome when you are the scribe doing it

    The value of small talk...

Eden Haiku: I can get a lot of pleasure in reading the greetings: Agatha is so creative with nicknames for example..Even samll talk about the weather can be fascinating sometimes....
Storm Nordwind: It was more burdensome to others to whom I had committed time! :)
    Wol Euler: heheh
Maxine Walden: yes, Eden, little gems ...
Maxine Walden: yes, know that as well, Storm
    Zen Arado: Minty...
Eos Amaterasu: Sometimes the emotional quality and bonding that comes through the smalltalk is really shining
    Eden Haiku: It is!
    Eliza Madrigal nods
    Maxine Walden: agree, Eos
    Storm Nordwind agrees
    Wol Euler nods.
Eos Amaterasu: but sometimes a block of that could go to the side in gray, also
Eos Amaterasu: there's also mutli-threaded quality to conversation that takes work to capture graphically
Maxine Walden: the spontaneity that comes into 'smalltalk' can be interesting and so much more revealing than the 'bigtalk' which can follow
Maxine Walden: not quite following, (would amend what I just said: the 'bigtalk' can be very important...just trying to emphasize the value of the spontaineity of the 'smalltalk'
Eden Haiku: Yes the freudian slips of small talk too hey Maxine? ;-)
Zen Arado: is there 'medium-sized' talk?
Eos Amaterasu: the feeling can come through, of us being together, of extra magic being there
Maxine Walden: yea, Eden, all those slips which are also nestled in the typos
    Wol Euler grins.
    Riddle Sideways: yes, zen
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eden Haiku: pondering about the medium size talk...
Eos Amaterasu: the middle way :-)
Eden Haiku: Ah! the middle way!
Eos Amaterasu: find the very big in the very small
Eden Haiku: A theading between real topics and no-topics and outside topics and so on...
Eden Haiku: A weaving in and out
Riddle Sideways: the tapestry we weave
    Zen Arado: 'small is beautiful'
Maxine Walden: the braids which are comprised of the weaving strands of thoughts are also quite wonderful
Eden Haiku: Links, photo albums, you tubes, wikipedia...

Treacle, Vocabulary, Tribes in SL ...

Storm Nordwind: Sometime it feels like a dance, free and floating. Other times it feels like wading through treacle.
    Maxine Walden: right, Storm!!
    Wol Euler: :)
Eden Haiku: looking up treacle in Webster...
    Eos Amaterasu: taffy?
Wol Euler: very thick and sticky sugar-syrup
Eliza Madrigal only knows about treacle thanks to Harry Potter
    Eos Amaterasu: maple syruup
Zen Arado: it was black as I remember?
Wol Euler: much thicker than maple syrup, it's hardly runny at all
Eliza Madrigal had to make tarts for parties ;-)
Eden Haiku: kind of molasse according to the dictionnary. Getting the idea Storm. Yes, it can feel like that too.
Eos Amaterasu: sticking to the topic :-)
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
    Storm Nordwind: oh!
    Zen Arado: :)
    Eden Haiku: Euh...
    Zen Arado: like treacle
    Eden Haiku: lol
Riddle Sideways: hmmm, few of my sessions have sweet sugary to them
    Riddle Sideways: more muddy like
Eden Haiku: Don't start me on Harry Potter. I adore him!
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eos Amaterasu: I've really been charmed by reading logs of some of the European sessions I'm unable to attend
Wol Euler: I feel that way about the 7pm sessions, Eos.
Eden Haiku: It seems there are very few people from Asia or Australia in PaB?
Zen Arado: Yes...I wonder about that
    Zen Arado: only Tarmel?
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Eden Haiku: I'm just aware of Pilla in Hawaii and Tarmel in Australia and Pema in Japan now.
Wol Euler: not many at all
Wol Euler: and pema only half-time
Eliza Madrigal: True, can't forget that Pema is Japanese
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Storm Nordwind: very sparsely populated areas overall
Eos Amaterasu: I thought he was a hippie
    Eliza Madrigal: heheh
    Maxine Walden: hippie Japanese
    Riddle Sideways: looks are deceiving
    Storm Nordwind: Cheese eating Japanese
Eden Haiku: Maybe the SL residents from these countries are few?
Eliza Madrigal: When I signed onto SL, I met quite a few Australians... so not sure
Storm Nordwind: Residents of any kind from Australia are few Eden :)
Eos Amaterasu: There's some occasional Japanese visitors (seemingly, at least)
Eden Haiku: Is thereb some sort of demographics of SL that anyone would know of? Just curious.
Eos Amaterasu: 60% non North American
Storm Nordwind: There used to me a monthly spreadsheet published by LL. They stopped doing it when their growth plateaued!
Eden Haiku: Yes, more sheep than humans , and sheep cannot attend SL yet...
Maxine Walden: sometimes I feel sheepish
    Zen Arado: baaaaa
Eden Haiku: Though I noticesd cats trying a kind of take over in the logs. Was happy to learn not only my cat thinks she is an alarm-clock!

    We are priveleged...

Storm Nordwind: We are blessed by using what has become an international language. Some countries, notably Japanese, prefer their own language and feel uncomfortable with ours
    Wol Euler nods
    Eden Haiku: nods
Liza Deischer: or with our culture
Liza Deischer: they have there own platforms
Eliza Madrigal smiles @ Eden re alarm cats
    Eden Haiku: yes Eliza ;-)
Storm Nordwind: It also used to be tha case (no idea now) that Brazil had a huge SL subculture... again keeping itself to itself - which is perhaps why I meet so few people from Brazil here
Eliza Madrigal: maybe when the translators are clearer...
Maxine Walden: interesting, Storm, so may be many subsets within SL that do not communicate with each other?
Eden Haiku: WE should hone our portuguese skills. Obrigada.
Liza Deischer: I don't know if it is about translators
Liza Deischer: It would be a challenge though
Zen Arado: I had a French friend who would not come to Pab because we speak in English
Eden Haiku: It is true we are lucky to be able to communicate in an international language. We are privileged.
    Wol Euler nods.
Maxine Walden: our tribal natures still persist at times
    Eden Haiku: ;-)
    Liza Deischer: I think so
Eos Amaterasu: we have our tribal natures here too
Riddle Sideways: and I still Babble
Eden Haiku: To babble, waht an interesting verb Riddle!
    Riddle Sideways: hi ara
Liza Deischer: my homebase in sl is Dutch
    Wol Euler: hello ara
    Eden Haiku: Hello Ara!
arabella Ella: Hiya so sorry I am late!
Liza Deischer: wasn't lookig for it
    Zen Arado: Hi Ara
    Liza Deischer: but it happens
    Liza Deischer: Hi ara
Eden Haiku: All my SL settings are in French.

    A Cafe'...

Eliza Madrigal: Last night we had a session talking about a village cafe, and focus on 'Being' ... http://playasbeing.wik.is/index.php?title=Chat_Logs/2010/01/2010.01.16_19:00_-_A_PaB_Village_Cafe%3F ... wanted to point to that for thoughts in upcoming sessions perhaps :)
    Eden Haiku: Except 'advanced'
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Ara :)
Eos Amaterasu: Hi Ara (soon be hosting a gaggle of avatars... :-)
Eden Haiku: Yes, I read the log and liked the idea of a cafe Eliza.
    Eliza Madrigal: hahah
Wol Euler: yes, glad you mentioned that eliza. I was going to point it out to Liza :)
    arabella Ella: :)
    Liza Deischer: i'll read it
Eos Amaterasu: How about in the plot just to the right as we leave the hall?
Eden Haiku: ∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑∑That would be nice Eos.
Eden Haiku: Was looking it on cam...
Zen Arado: you could just drop in anytime?
Eliza Madrigal nods... yes... the vision begins to take shape as a more fluid village life perhaps...
Storm Nordwind: Rather larger than the existing tavern then?
Riddle Sideways: there is the Pab Pub
Zen Arado: didn't know about that
Eos Amaterasu: the "Do Drop... Inn"
Eden Haiku: Yes, maybe we can use the Pab pub?
Wol Euler: a little building west of here, near my dance hall
Eliza Madrigal: yes that would be fun, too
arabella Ella: Do you mean the Pub in the cafe?
Storm Nordwind: there's a chess table, darts board, mini-go set, and drinks on tap
Eden Haiku: We could play darts...
    Riddle Sideways: darts hurt
    Zen Arado: sounds good
Maxine Walden: one of Storm's earlier buildings
Liza Deischer: love to play darts
Storm Nordwind: Actually one of my (now) wife's building, adapted
Eden Haiku: Never met anyone in the pub. Did you?
Eos Amaterasu: I brought someone there once

    Scheduling...

Eliza Madrigal: Well, then the thing becomes scheduling... times that might be good to check in there... nothing too formal but if usually empty then people don't wander by to see
Riddle Sideways: never heard you met your wife in a pub
Eden Haiku: Me too but friends cannot play darts. Not allowed.
    Eliza Madrigal: Ah
Eos Amaterasu: he found the pub on his wife (her inventory) :-)
    Eden Haiku: chuckles
Storm Nordwind: They should be able to play now Eden :)
Eden Haiku: Yes, a schedule maybe Eliza. So we take the habit of checking if someone is there... Informal right?
    Liza Deischer: the darts?
    Eos Amaterasu: rotating happy hour
Riddle Sideways: and underaged avs are allowed to drink the ale
Eden Haiku: With tea for non-drinkers?
arabella Ella: perhaps the scedule could have two regular times, one US friendly the other Euro friendly?
    Wol Euler: :)
    Harris Quan is Online
Storm Nordwind: If it does not suit the intended purpose, I/we/you can build a new one.
Eliza Madrigal: yes certainly good to have two times
    Eden Haiku: Yes and insomniac-friendly!
    Eliza Madrigal: haha
    arabella Ella: :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes that's the best time for darts

Clouds and Australians have preoccupied us...

Riddle Sideways: I hear a pub in always aussie friendly
    Zen Arado: :)
Eos Amaterasu: Does the pub serve clouds? (re attending thru Sparkle)
Eden Haiku: I think it would be nice to use to pub. A cozy little place.
Eliza Madrigal: So we're starting Australian outreach then? hehe
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, must serve clouds... perhaps a sign saying such
    Wol Euler: heheheh
Storm Nordwind: A good supply of tinnies needed then!
Eliza Madrigal: if we can find australian clouds...
Storm Nordwind: "Unruly clouds will be dispersed"
    Eliza Madrigal: hahaha
    Eos Amaterasu: groan
Zen Arado: would love a Fosters
Wol Euler: do australian clouds rain upwards?
Eden Haiku: Chai and lassi would be nice too.
    Zen Arado: :)
Eliza Madrigal: oh goodness... haha... quite the session today :)
    Martie Georgia is Online
Eden Haiku: We need such a place for our silly moods, that is a proof.
    Wol Euler: :)
    Zen Arado: yes
    Eos Amaterasu: 90 at least
Eliza Madrigal: I have to move on, but thank you everyone. I'd appreciate someone sending me the end of the log to post if possible...
Riddle Sideways: sessions get lively chatting about beer (or music)
genesis Zhangsun: me too bye everyone
Wol Euler: bye eliza, bye gen
    Eos Amaterasu: bye all!
    Storm Nordwind: buona sera gen!
    Liza Deischer: bye eliza, gen
Maxine Walden: me as well, nice chat all
Zen Arado: I better go too
    Maxine Walden: bye
    Liza Deischer: bye Zen
    arabella Ella: bye Gen Zen
    Zen Arado: bye all
Wol Euler: bye zen, bye maxine
Eliza Madrigal: bye for now and thanks! :)
