    Intros

    Pila Mulligan: hi Eos
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Pila
    Pila Mulligan: how are you?
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Bene
    Pila Mulligan: hello Ben
Eos Amaterasu: Time was just slipping past me
    Benedizione Vita: hello
Eos Amaterasu: Hi Benedizione, have you been to Play as Being before?
Benedizione Vita: yes, sporadically since the beginning
    Eos Amaterasu: Okay, great.... :-)
Benedizione Vita: I won't be saying much today, I just have it open so my avatar can be present ;^)
Benedizione Vita: another part of my consciousness will be entering grades
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Pila Mulligan: landscape architect?
Eos Amaterasu wonders about the presencing of avatars
    Benedizione Vita: no, quiz grades
    Pila Mulligan: ahh
Benedizione Vita: I graded them, and now they have to be entered ;^)
    Benedizione Vita: I'm a TA
Pila Mulligan: digfferent kinds of degrees
Pila Mulligan: well, to keep you distracted, what subject?
Eos Amaterasu: you playing as avatar playing as being
Pila Mulligan: true, I would never make such horrible puns in person
    Pila Mulligan: hello Doug
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Doug
doug Sosa: sorry to be late. guests.
    Pila Mulligan: how are you?
doug Sosa: good, very well. self?
    Pila Mulligan: fine, thanks
    doug Sosa: bene!
    SophiaSharon Larnia: HI everyone :)
    Pila Mulligan: hi SophiaSharon
    Eos Amaterasu: SophiaSharon, hi
    Pila Mulligan: how are you?
    SophiaSharon Larnia: me? great! :)
doug Sosa: i should rotate a bit, other folks :)
    Pila Mulligan: :)

    Experiencing the 90 secs

Eos Amaterasu: Any suggestions for how to dive into the upcoming 90 secs?
    Pila Mulligan: quietly?
doug Sosa: why the 9 sec feels good.
SophiaSharon Larnia: i was envisioning actually diving there Eos, not so quiet ;p
Benedizione Vita: hi doug! I'm only partially here--simulaneously entering quiz grades ;)
    Pila Mulligan: hello Arch
    doug Sosa: a,a,a,a.. :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Archmage
Benedizione Vita: physics, to answer your earlier question, pila, and yes avatar playing as me playing as being hahaha ;^)
    Archmage Atlantis: Hiya Everyone
    doug Sosa: :)
Eos Amaterasu: Sometimes in the 9 secs I feel I'm playing at "really" being there
Eos Amaterasu: and hoping to discover myself there
doug Sosa: but it feels realer than real.
    Eos Amaterasu: how so, Doug?
doug Sosa: don't know. it feels it. more vivid, more interesting.
    Eos Amaterasu: ah
Eos Amaterasu: does that also sneak up on you at other times?

    --BELL--

Benedizione Vita: do you see much of pema here, doug?
doug Sosa: yes, 9 sec leaks out into the rest of time very often.
Eos Amaterasu: & the rest of the time leaks out of the 9 secs :-)
doug Sosa: ops, earlier question. He was here yesterday at noon i think. lots of peole.
Eos Amaterasu: Recently Pema has been here a fair amount
Archmage Atlantis: I see him often at the earlier meeting
Benedizione Vita: you see him in the evenings, amaterasu?
Benedizione Vita: ah, yes, I figured that might be
Benedizione Vita: he travels so much in RL, I never kknow what time zone he is in! ;^)
doug Sosa: he wants us to be more peer led. i guess that means us.
SophiaSharon Larnia: that state of mind sneaks up on me when I'm driving, I have a long commute
Benedizione Vita: how long is your commute sophia?
SophiaSharon Larnia: 50 minutes, if traffic is 'normal'
Eos Amaterasu: Benedizione, I recommend http://playasbeing.wik.is/Chat_Logs/2009/09/2009.09.30_07%3a00_-

In this PaB session Pema Pera does a particularly good exploration of how PaB practice can evolve

Eos Amaterasu: (like recommending Grateful Dead concerts :-)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles
Archmage Atlantis: I think it is important to me to differentiate between a "trance like" state and an "opening of awareness"
doug Sosa: once a week i drive to stanford, three days later, back. about 3 hours. i always think, all these cars. this is nuts. extrapolate. not pretty.
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes thats true Arch, very much so
Eos Amaterasu: Can you say a bit more, Arch?
Archmage Atlantis: One is entirely inner, the other almost fully open
doug Sosa: is the trance also different from dreaming?
Archmage Atlantis: To me, yes it is Doug
Eos Amaterasu: could be like absorbed dreaming
doug Sosa: i think so too. so we have awake, dreaming trance, and 9 sec. :)
Eos Amaterasu: but you could also wake up and be open in lucid dreaming
Archmage Atlantis: Or total lack of thought, dreams and sensory input
Eos Amaterasu: do PaB in your dreams :-)
Benedizione Vita: has anyone (here) done that?
    doug Sosa: not me.
    doug Sosa: not yet.
Archmage Atlantis: Sure Eos, aware dreaming is certainly a possibility
Pila Mulligan: yes, for a while just before I was born this time
    Eos Amaterasu: ?
    doug Sosa: HA!
SophiaSharon Larnia: lucid dreams? or doing PaB in my dreams?
    Benedizione Vita: pab in dreams
Archmage Atlantis: Well, that depends on what "doing PaB" means to the individual'
Benedizione Vita: specifically the 9sec pause
Benedizione Vita: conscious awareness of the technique
    Benedizione Vita: I mean
    Pila Mulligan: not me
Eos Amaterasu: or awareness of play as being
    SophiaSharon Larnia: me either
Benedizione Vita: I think it would be interesting to try to do that
Archmage Atlantis: Bene, I guess if you use the word conscious, it would exclude dreaming for me by definition
Benedizione Vita: it could be set as an intention prior to sleep
SophiaSharon Larnia: as I drift off to sleep, very often, if not all the time
Eos Amaterasu: you can trigger into lucid dreaming thru realizing you're doing a recognition, PaB type practice
Benedizione Vita: what I mean AA is "have you ever woken up and had a memory that you remembered PAB while dreaming"
Archmage Atlantis: Ah I see, and no
Benedizione Vita: that would be very interesting eo
Benedizione Vita: like the check the watch technique
Eos Amaterasu: I have not had that specific PaB experience, but related
Eos Amaterasu: since you can do it at any time, you could be doing it while dreaming
Archmage Atlantis: That would be a bit like setting an automatic timer in the non-aware part of the brain to invoke the part that is aware, I would think
Eos Amaterasu: Yeah, little tricks are fair
Eos Amaterasu: Like having a specific instruction for doing the 9 secs or 90 secs
Archmage Atlantis: All is fair in love and PaB :)
Eos Amaterasu: It's a little artificial, but it can surprisingly energize the practice

    --BELL--

    doug Sosa: bye :(
    Archmage Atlantis: Bye Doug
    Archmage Atlantis: Poof
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Doug
    SophiaSharon Larnia: HI Mary
Benedizione Vita: poor doug, I hate to see a frown
    Mary Korpov: hi
    Benedizione Vita: ;^)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
    Eos Amaterasu: HI Mary
    Benedizione Vita: hi mary
    Mary Korpov: hi
Archmage Atlantis: One of the elements about these discussions is that we often do not, in my experience, attempt to provide concrete examples of our own experience.....
    Pila Mulligan: hi Mary
    Archmage Atlantis: Hi Mary
    Mary Korpov: hi
SophiaSharon Larnia: breaking up the day in 9/90 sec increments is artificial, Eos, I end up doing them much longer
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
Eos Amaterasu: Yes, and sometimes you find yourself in them
Eos Amaterasu: transitions are a good time, because you're between one thing and the next
Benedizione Vita: speaking of which, must transition out of SL :^)
Eos Amaterasu: SophiaSharon, can you describe that process a bit? while you're working? ?
    Benedizione Vita: be well, all
    Eos Amaterasu: A+
Benedizione Vita: nice to see you all
Archmage Atlantis: For example, in the last segment, since we all are sitting/standing in different parts of the world, with different sensory inputs available, and with different life experiences
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Bye Benedizione
    Eos Amaterasu: Ciao, Bene
Archmage Atlantis: Each must have had a different PaB segment
Eos Amaterasu: What was happening for you, Arch?
SophiaSharon Larnia: when I'm working, its very hard, so many distraction, usually what i see is what would someone else see if they suddenly inhabited my body
Archmage Atlantis: I was open to the outside world, the frogs outside, the music inside the feelings in my limbs
    Eos Amaterasu: very interesting, Sophia
SophiaSharon Larnia: it reminds me to smile, anyway :)
Archmage Atlantis: Usually I do not notice those things
    Eos Amaterasu: peepers?
    Archmage Atlantis: Peepers = ?
Eos Amaterasu: kind of frogs, making those "peeping" kind of souinds
SophiaSharon Larnia: ithah maybe, but i am reminded at the time that things are not what they seem
    SophiaSharon Larnia: oops typo
Archmage Atlantis: The tadpoles have hatched after the rain, so they are more quiet than their progenitors were
Eos Amaterasu: you're like a little bit of a visitor in your own body, SophiaSharon?
Archmage Atlantis: The adults sound like birds
SophiaSharon Larnia: mainly I have notice how melded tight people are in their attachments, how so very wrapped up and consumed by them
    SophiaSharon Larnia: myself included
Eos Amaterasu: the me cloud predates the internet cloud :-)
    Archmage Atlantis: Excellent point Eos
Archmage Atlantis: And evolves as we age
SophiaSharon Larnia: a thinking visitor :)
    Eos Amaterasu: Appreciative visitor?
SophiaSharon Larnia: Trying to be. I saw a baby with a rooting reflex, and realized we are meant as physical being to attach, with out the attachment of love, a baby will wither up and die, so have been confused lately
Archmage Atlantis: There is also the similar experience of standing outside one's own body and watching it as if it were a stranger
Archmage Atlantis: Sometimes near death experience can be like that
Pila Mulligan: a baby is usually free of many ego problems
SophiaSharon Larnia: by trying to step out of this, we are striving to transcend the body, is this wrong to say?
    SophiaSharon Larnia: yes true

    --BELL--

Archmage Atlantis: Hmmm....I would have said the opposite Sophia, a baby is a strongly egotistical being
    Archmage Atlantis: Absorbed by itself
    Archmage Atlantis: Interesting
Pila Mulligan: the baby's simple need for nurture may be closer to the sense of emptiness than a typical practitioner's contemplative mind
Eos Amaterasu: I don't think we really *can* step out of this... but we can appreciate it, and even give in to it / allow it
    Eos Amaterasu: Yes, Pila!
    Pila Mulligan: hi Paradise
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Paradise
    Archmage Atlantis: Hi Paradise
Paradise Tennant: hiya pila eos sophia arch :)
    Eos Amaterasu: para!
Eos Amaterasu: the strong emotions are part of the phenomenality, so to speak
Eos Amaterasu: "orange is young and full of daring, but very unsteady on the first go round"
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: appreciation is what i'm having a tough time with, i see :)
Pila Mulligan: maybe perceiving is an easier idea
Pila Mulligan: I don't think appreciating means much more than being aware of in this context
Archmage Atlantis: How do you mean that SophiaSharon? appreciation I mean?
Archmage Atlantis: If you don't mind my asking
SophiaSharon Larnia: no, appreciation as in accepting, things dont have to be as they are. Seeing how atached individuals really are has thrown me for a loop
    Archmage Atlantis: Ah
    Archmage Atlantis: TY
Pila Mulligan: kind of how i felt after the 2000 election
Eos Amaterasu: there's troping, like the rooting reflex, and there's attachment
SophiaSharon Larnia: a culture of 'false idols' lik in the various mythologies of the world, not just the bible
SophiaSharon Larnia: sorry about the typos, am typing in the dark, just put a light on
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Archmage Atlantis: That is a very deep observation, in my opinion, SophiaSharon
SophiaSharon Larnia: i think its common, just dont talk about it
Archmage Atlantis: Even seeing our own "stuff" is difficult
Eos Amaterasu: 90 secs without editing
Archmage Atlantis: If I understood that comment correctly , EOS, I agree up to a point, ......I don't think we ever escape totally our own internal editors, just minimize their impact

    --BELL--

Eos Amaterasu: have to be a bit merciful about our editorializing
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes thank you for the reminder Eos, very true
SophiaSharon Larnia: I have to go, bye for now all :))
Paradise Tennant: nite nite sophia ..thank you
    Eos Amaterasu: Bye SophiaSharon!
Pila Mulligan: yes, nice to visit with everyone -- time for Pila to go also
Pila Mulligan: bye for on w
Archmage Atlantis: Yes, it is my alloted time also, By all
    Pila Mulligan: now*
    Paradise Tennant: aloha'oe pila :)
    Eos Amaterasu: Bye Archmage!
    Pila Mulligan: aloha `oe
    Paradise Tennant: nite nite arch
    Paradise Tennant: :)
Paradise Tennant: well I think I should go too .. dog is whining to go out in the rain .. :))
    Eos Amaterasu: ha!
    Eos Amaterasu: Bye Paradise!
Paradise Tennant: good night eos .. be well :))
