The Guardian for this meeting was Pema Pera. The comments are by Pema Pera.
Ewan Bonham: Hello Pema..
Pema Pera: hi Tess and Ewan!
Tess Aristocrat: Hello ㋡
Pema Pera: and hi Bert!
Tess Aristocrat: Hey Bert ㋡
Bertrum Resident: hi everyone
Ewan Bonham: Hi Bertrum..
Bertrum Resident: Is there a topic for discussion this evening?
Pema Pera: not yet :-)
Pema Pera: but feel free to suggest one
Pema Pera: any topic is fine!
Tess Aristocrat: How about the way we are in SL
Tess Aristocrat: Was talking to Ewan about it before..how people can become quite immersed in it
Pema Pera: yes indeed
Ewan Bonham: nodding..
Ewan Bonham: Part of the real focus of the moment when in here..
Pema Pera: hi Steve!
stevenaia Michinaga: waves
Ewan Bonham: Hi Steve..
Tess Aristocrat: Stevie ㋡
stevenaia Michinaga: greetings
Pema Pera: is there any particular aspect of immersion in SL that you would like to talk about, Tess?
Tess Aristocrat: hmmmm
Tess Aristocrat: I've noticed that since I've been on SL..
Tess Aristocrat: that I've had more dreams where I'm an observer in the dream
Pema Pera: interesting!
Tess Aristocrat: and I wonder if there's a connection
Pema Pera: the decoupling of freedom in camera movement from freedom in body movement?
Bleu Oleander: hi everyone :)
stevenaia Michinaga: hi bleu
Pema Pera: hi Bleu!
Tess Aristocrat: nods...it's as if I'm watching the dream play out right in front of me, while not really being 'in on it'
Tess Aristocrat: Hello Bleu ㋡
stevenaia Michinaga: so it isn't you that you are watching in your drea,?
Ewan Bonham: Hello Blue
stevenaia Michinaga: *Dream
Tess Aristocrat: oh ..no, not like that..
Ewan Bonham: Funny how much I can really identify and feel my Avitar..
Tess Aristocrat: ㋡
Pema Pera: I also think that dreams naturally allow for decoupling of "camera" and "body". Even before getting into virtual worlds, I would ride in a train or fly in a plane, and sometimes have a view from in front of the train, or from a wing of a plane
Tess Aristocrat: Also, I have had SL dreams :P
stevenaia Michinaga: was your avatar in the dream?
--BELL--
Ewan Bonham: Lol...you mean your Avitar had a dream?
Tess Aristocrat: I didn't see myself in the dream, but I did see avatars rez in front of me and while I can't quite remember the dream now, I do remember trying to click out of it. lolll
stevenaia Michinaga: interesting thought, Ewan
Pema Pera: :-)
Ewan Bonham: Brings up...who am I when I am in sl...
stevenaia Michinaga: who's hand is up my back typing
Pema Pera: it seems that SL can bring out other aspects of one's personality
Tess Aristocrat: I have found that SL is a wonderful place to share thoughts and ideas with likeminded people- so much easier than RL
Ewan Bonham: Nod..
Ewan Bonham: And with so many at once..
Pema Pera: why do you think that is, Tess?
Tess Aristocrat: In the course of my day in RL, I don't ususally run into so many people that I can chat with like this. I work, I go home.
Pema Pera: yes, access is much easier and wider here
Tess Aristocrat: My co-workers are nice enough folks, but there is no 'philosophy' room at work.
Pema Pera: :-)
Ewan Bonham: And there aren't a lot of like minded folks here...But there are plenty of people...and so then enough to gather here..
Tess Aristocrat: I use Facebook strictly to maintain contact with my huge family, most of which are spread out from coast to coast.
Pema Pera: hi Storm!
Bleu Oleander: hi Storm :)
Storm Nordwind: Hi there!
stevenaia Michinaga: hi Storm
Pema Pera: Storm, Tess started a thread about "the joy of SL", in short :-)
Pema Pera: its many possibilities for meeting people
Storm Nordwind: Joy is always good :)
Pema Pera: and its options for immersion
--BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: I've always wondered what "vortex" we all fell into that it lead us here
Pema Pera: maybe we have in common that we all are/be :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: an unusual vehicle for people's paths to have crossed
Pema Pera: and now play as Being
Pema Pera: or, ah, you meant SL in general?
Storm Nordwind: As you know, I'm now reaping the rewards of an unusual and joyous meeting in SL :))
stevenaia Michinaga: yes that led us here to this place in Sl
Pema Pera: Yes, Storm, I think your experience was immersive in RL :-)
Storm Nordwind chuckles
Bleu Oleander: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: Sylectra also married her SL partner :)
Tess Aristocrat: Well, I shall bid all you good folks goodnight or good-day, however it applies ㋡
stevenaia Michinaga: night Tess
Storm Nordwind waves
Bleu Oleander: bye Tess
Pema Pera: sleep well, Tess
Tess Aristocrat: night ㋡
Bertrum Resident: Bye, Tess.
Pema Pera: hi Faffila!
Pema Pera: *Raffila
Raffila Millgrove: hello
Storm Nordwind: Hi Raffi!
Bleu Oleander: hi Raffila :)
Raffila Millgrove: sorry to be late. what were you talking about?
Pema Pera: nothing very coherent so far :)
Pema Pera: if you like to start a new topic, please feel free to do so!
Pema Pera: any comment, question, idea will do :)
Raffila Millgrove: lol i am deep into building.. so I came to hear some human talk. i don't have a good topic.
Storm Nordwind knows exactly how that feels!
Bleu Oleander: :)
Pema Pera: :-)
Raffila Millgrove: It kind of surprises me that so many people come to SL and never learn even the rudiments of building.
stevenaia Michinaga: there is something wonderfully creative in assembling simeple thing to create more beautiful thing
Storm Nordwind: One might, by extension, ask why they come to SL and why they stay.
--BELL--
Pema Pera: in my case, the sense of being together, co-presence or immersion, was the greatest attraction. I would love to learn building here, but I have only 24 hours in a day, and there are at least a hundred other things I'd also love to learn!
Raffila Millgrove: i know why they stay.. they make friends and want to visit with them.
Storm Nordwind: Though with building, I wonder if some people are afraid to make mistakes publically. You can't hide much in SL!
Bleu Oleander: mistakes?
Raffila Millgrove: it is a time commitment. to learn.
Storm Nordwind: Creating things and learning to build
Bleu Oleander has made many
stevenaia Michinaga: I fould some of the creative builder do nothing like it in RL, this is a unique outlet of expression
Bleu Oleander: some turn out better than others :)
Storm Nordwind: I still make many mistakes. That's fine. It's part of the fun. I'm ugly enough not to care if people think I'm silly (as they'd ne right!)
Storm Nordwind: *be
Bleu Oleander: :)
Raffila Millgrove: i am only good at modding and textures--I never can deal well with scripts. i like to take things and.. change them.
Raffila Millgrove: my new medical center started as a tiny cottage that had archtectural details i couldn't achieve on my own.
Storm Nordwind would love to take a peek sometime
Bleu Oleander: field trip?
Raffila Millgrove: lol
Storm Nordwind: No pressure of course
Raffila Millgrove: you have to wait til i finish. i have sky showing now.
Raffila Millgrove: couple roof areas not finished.
Raffila Millgrove: look up and see sky. hehe
Storm Nordwind: Drape a tarp over it ;)
stevenaia Michinaga: sounds like a field Trip is in order
Pema Pera: :)
Raffila Millgrove: well if you really want to see it.. half finished.. i will lm you all.. and you can come see the land/houses.. and center at your own convenience.
Bleu Oleander: :)
Storm Nordwind: Thank you so much. I shall tread lightly :))
Bleu Oleander: Thanks Raffila
Pema Pera: thank you, Raffila
Raffila Millgrove: please don't. feel free to walk all around into houses.. see the Thai bath house.. on the other side of mountain. enjoy!
stevenaia Michinaga: yes thanks, do you have office hours?
Raffila Millgrove: most of it.. i either modded heavily or it's my own build.
Raffila Millgrove: did the teraform and landscape as well.
Storm Nordwind: Terraforming is a lot of fun. QUite hard some people find. Especially as there's no ctrl-z!
Raffila Millgrove: that's the skybox above.
Raffila Millgrove: it's taken me forever to learn how to do it.
Raffila Millgrove: the tools are so.. imprecise.
Storm Nordwind: I know of lots of places to learn to build, including one I recommend beginners to go, but no places to learn terraforming.
Storm Nordwind: You just have to try and see
Raffila Millgrove: so true.
Raffila Millgrove: my neighbor made mountains that make me nuts. i finally got most of it screened.
Storm Nordwind: I lost an entire coastline three years ago! Only able to put it back because the SL map doesn't update except on a daily basis at best
Raffila Millgrove: the center is just in a temp location. i'll be moving it over to a new parcel so i can create a group for it.
Raffila Millgrove: very nervous about starting over and trying something so ambitious alone.
--BELL--
Storm Nordwind: If there's ever anything I can assist with Raffila, or you just want someone to talk things over with, please just call :)
Raffila Millgrove: very kind of you Storm, thank you.
Pema Pera: thanks for sharing your fascinating projects, Raffila!
Pema Pera: Good night, everyone, and see y'all soon again
Storm Nordwind: Bye Pema!
Raffila Millgrove: happy to do so. hope you'll all enjoy coming by. come anytime.
Bleu Oleander: night Pema
Bertrum Resident: bye Pema
Raffila Millgrove: good night Pema.
Bleu Oleander: night everyone ... thanks Raffila, I'll stop by and have a look :)
Storm Nordwind waves
Raffila Millgrove: Bye everyone.
Bertrum Resident: night Bleu
stevenaia Michinaga: I'm off to my field trip :)
Storm Nordwind: Bon voyage!
Storm Nordwind: I need to check something too. Night night!
