Afterthoughts (from Bruce):  During this session there was much talk of things seemingly out of our control -- like global warming, sea levels rising, ice age in Europe, trucks breaking down, computer satellite connections fractured by solar flares, etc. . . .    None of these, of course, exempts us from responsibility for compassion and mindfulness -- both of which, gratefully, were evident among the participants in this session.

Bruce Mowbray: Well, my computer is really acting up . . . (ever since the solar flares of last weekend...) -- so I probably missed the announcement.
Raffila Millgrove: there's never any notices from Kira Cafe.. i think i join that group hoping to get some.
Bruce Mowbray: There is a PaB board near here . . . I wish I could see this scene so I could walk you over to it now...

Bruce Mowbray: and I am now feeling that there's quite a bit more to my making of the SL self because the environment is (apparently) so lacking of the normal things I depend upon for self-orientation....

Adams Rubble: it is scripted to go 15 minutes before each of the sessions
Adams Rubble: 4 times a day

Raffila Millgrove: yesterday. i had this very important chat.. and i wanted to copy it... and someone called me to come quick.. and i rushed into a tp and of course crashed.. so that i lost the whole important convo.. which now.. well just gone ... wanted to log it.
Adams Rubble: Have you checked your graphics setting to make sure it is low? Sometimes that seems to set itself high
Bruce Mowbray: The thing that is going through my mind now is how my "self" in SL seems mightily dependent upon environmental factors....
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I have the graphics setting at the very lowest...
Bruce Mowbray: What's happening is that the transfer of data is at dial-up speed. . . and has been for the past week.
Raffila Millgrove: did you call to the provider? ask it anything they could do?

Raffila Millgrove: i would not feel anything about "self" if this happened to me.. but I'd be so frustrated.. you're holding up Bruce.. to keep trying and staying .. calm.
Raffila Millgrove: the worst for you.. i think. is when you type.. and nothing shows up... that's mind bending.

Adams Rubble: yes, especially since it usually means one has crashed or is crashing

Raffila Millgrove: he's really been suffering thru this.
Bruce Mowbray: Let's face it, folks, dial-up speed just doesn't work in SL. . . .
Raffila Millgrove: not to mention getting back to normal after that scary surgery. you'd hope SL would be comfort/solace.. not an additional stressor.

Bruce Mowbray: I apologize once more for the continuing glitch. I just hope that my satellite server will get it fixed soon. (I can use the wi-fi at the public library, but that's 15 miles away and is closed at this time on Saturdays.)

Bruce Mowbray: Can you believe that there are still candidates for President who say that global warming is an Obama myth? (Santorum, for one.)
Raffila Millgrove: i wish. that the scientists could explain with evidence. .why Europe for example.. got a mini ice age.. which changed the climates (ever since) in places like Northern France. from quite pleasant warm.. to snow in winter etc.
Bruce Mowbray: The jet streams are out of kilter. . .
Bruce Mowbray: so some parts of the globe are experiencing the "ice age" while others (like the US) are experiencing unusual warmth.
stevenaia Michinaga: Chicago is considering planting warmer plants in preparation for warmer times ahead
 
Raffila Millgrove: there is no question.. that flooding the atmosphere with gasses.. etc. this can't be good. period. but. at same time.. these big shifts in climate that came before the pollution--they are still unexplained.
Bruce Mowbray: That's a worthy consideration..
Bruce Mowbray: also, folks who live along coastal areas might want to consider moving in-land.
Raffila Millgrove: the area of Nevada was once a huge lake.. and now of course desert. they have no explains for these things.. it would be so helpful to know..

Raffila Millgrove: at the natural history museum in Nevada, they told us they have so many boxes of dinosaur bones.. they cannot even catalogue them.. they're bombarded with bones they cannot even find storage for them, let alone figure out.. what's what.
Adams Rubble: Of course Nevada used to be in another position on the globe but has been moved along with plate tectonics
Bruce Mowbray: The evidence is quite clear that the oceans are rising. . . at an increasing rate, actually. . . Only a few inches in the past 100 years. . . but possibly a few feet in the next 100.
Bruce Mowbray: We may all be dinos before this weather cycle is done.
Raffila Millgrove: it's rising because the polar caps are melting??
Adams Rubble: Yesterday I was in the Water Works in Philadelphia which was built around 1800
