    Eliza Madrigal.

Santoshima Resident: 's current display-name is "San".
    Korel Laloix: Heya
    Santoshima Resident: hi
Korel Laloix: You have sort of a veil on today San?
Korel Laloix: Things are not rezzzing well for me.
    Santoshima Resident: sorta
    Korel Laloix: Oh OK.
Korel Laloix: Just looks a bit sparkely.
    Santoshima Resident: yes, pearly dots
    Santoshima Resident: how're you?
    Santoshima Resident: at work?
Korel Laloix: Yes ... at work.
    Santoshima Resident: { shall deduce so, as delayed reply ...}
Korel Laloix: Working on the advert for my relplacement.
Korel Laloix: Going to be tough leaving this place after ten years off and on.
Santoshima Resident: and tough to find a replacement
Korel Laloix: That is true ... but they have some time ... I don't go to my new job until the beginning of March.
    Santoshima Resident: plenty
Korel Laloix: So I gave them a training time line for my replacement ... so if they follow that, it won't be bad.
Korel Laloix: If they delay ... could get messy.
    Santoshima Resident: right
Korel Laloix: But ... it won't be y problem ... smiles
    Korel Laloix: Heya Qt.
    Santoshima Resident: hello QT
Santoshima Resident: welcome to the "Hidden Layers" wed noon session

    — B E L L —

Catrinamonblue Resident: 's current display-name is "Catrinamonblue".
Korel Laloix: Ooo ... that sounds interesting.
    Qt Core: Hi all
    Korel Laloix: Heya Catrin
    Santoshima Resident: {whatever that means ... HL for short}
    Santoshima Resident: hi Cat :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: hi trying to sit down :)
Santoshima Resident: best luck with that
    Korel Laloix: There you go.
    Catrinamonblue Resident: there :)
    Korel Laloix: Strange lagg today.
    Santoshima Resident: yes
Qt Core: as soon i tped here sl tried to tp me away ... don't even know where!
Korel Laloix: That happens to me regularly.
    Korel Laloix: Heya Wol.
    Santoshima Resident: really?
Qt Core: first time for me ever
    Qt Core: hi Wol
Korel Laloix: But I am lagged all the time.
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Wol
    Wol Euler: evening all!
    Korel Laloix: Heya AGs
Santoshima Resident: to me that only happens if i accidentally click on "favorites" at the top bar
    Santoshima Resident: hi Wol
    Agatha Macbeth: Yo
    Qt Core: Hi Aga
    Catrinamonblue Resident: HI Agatha
    Agatha Macbeth: Sera QT
Santoshima Resident: yoyo Agatha, gtsy ~
Agatha Macbeth: 'I was a yoyo Buzz'
Santoshima Resident: anyone else experiencing hidden lag in the text?
Wol Euler: hidden layers of text :)
Agatha Macbeth: It seems unusually fine for me
Bruce Mowbray: 's current display-name is "Bruce".
Korel Laloix: For me, people were quick to go from clowd to grey to visible ... but very slow to see details.
    Qt Core: hi Bruce
    Catrinamonblue Resident: hi bruce
    Bruce Mowbray: Hello!
    Wol Euler: hello bruce!
    Bruce Mowbray listens.
    Korel Laloix: Osiyo B
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello again brucie
    Santoshima Resident: hey Bruce :)
    Bruce Mowbray: hello!
Korel Laloix: I guess the converstaion is the hidden layer today ... smiles
Santoshima Resident: where'd you get the turkey tail, Bruce?
Bruce Mowbray: did I put a damper on everything?
Korel Laloix: It looks like it.
    Santoshima Resident: {let's just first get that out into the open}
Korel Laloix: Looks more like a tigerfish to me.
    Wol Euler grins.
Bruce Mowbray: Bleu gave us these today at Sun's building class.
Korel Laloix: I think that is what it is called.
    Santoshima Resident: very dynamic
Bruce Mowbray: yes. Bleu is an excellent designer.
    Agatha Macbeth: She is too
Bruce Mowbray: does anyone know if the dream workshop - Maxine's - that usually meets that there is hour, is still meeting?
    Agatha Macbeth: Yes
Wol Euler: yes, we had one yesterday
    Wol Euler: tuesdays
Agatha Macbeth: We were there yesterday
Santoshima Resident: seemed to be meeting on tuesday, right? 1 pm
Bruce Mowbray: Oh how that's right! it's on Tuesdays!
    Agatha Macbeth: Yep
Bruce Mowbray: Inauguration Day threw me off.
    Agatha Macbeth: It does that
Bruce Mowbray: I'm also trying out voice recognition software and having to make a lot of corrections.
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah, like Zen's?
Santoshima Resident: hearing your lovely sonorous voice, Bruce
Bruce Mowbray: Yes like his, I think.
Bruce Mowbray: I'm using Dragon naturally speaking version 11.5.
    Agatha Macbeth: Enter the dragon
Bruce Mowbray: I'll mind and as it relies that was coming through in Surrey is the moment
    Bruce Mowbray: oooops! it is
Santoshima Resident: np Bruce, it's great
Santoshima Resident: rather than a recorded laugh
    Santoshima Resident: the real deal
    Bruce Mowbray laughs and laughs!
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Bruce Mowbray: no wonder I put a damper on your conversation.
    Santoshima Resident: oh, you didn't
Santoshima Resident: we haven't really started
    Santoshima Resident: uhm
Santoshima Resident: anyone want to comment on the topic du jour?
    Agatha Macbeth: What is it?
    Santoshima Resident: hidden "hidden
    Santoshima Resident: layers"
    Bruce Mowbray: Hayden and layers.
    Bruce Mowbray: ha ha!
    Agatha Macbeth: Whoa
Bruce Mowbray: I really need to train the software.
Qt Core: ohyh i was thinking it was going to be a building class ;-)
    Santoshima Resident: exactly, Agatha

    — B E L L —

Agatha Macbeth: We already had that QT ;-)
Santoshima Resident: did you do the art field trip?
    Agatha Macbeth: Yep
Agatha Macbeth: It was ... interesting
Bruce Mowbray: I just realised something: voice recognition software automatically turns on the microphone in second life.
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah
Agatha Macbeth: That was what I heard
Bruce Mowbray: rl phone call ...
    Catrinamonblue Resident: tg guys sry
Catrinamonblue Resident: see you all later :)
    Qt Core: bye Cat
Wol Euler: bye cat, take care
Santoshima Resident: "interesting" as in much to say but am speechless, Agatha ... or "interesting" as in ho hum?
    Bruce Mowbray: in a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a panel of a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a I went on the "field trip" and it was GREAT!
    Bruce Mowbray: what!
Bruce Mowbray takes off the mic.
    Agatha Macbeth: Steady Brucie
Bruce Mowbray: That thing is an ANIMAL!
Santoshima Resident: lot'sa 'a's in there ... musta been good!
Wol Euler is glad she keeps Voice turned off
Agatha Macbeth: Didn't know you were that excited Brucie
Bruce Mowbray: The problem is that the voice recognition software turns the Voice back on - automatically ...
Bruce Mowbray: so I won't be using it in SL after all.
Qt Core: not even plugged the mic, i can't do it even iif i wanted :)
Wol Euler: there is probably (hopefully) a setting for that, which you could disable
Santoshima Resident: not to worry, we'll just eavesdrop quietly
Wol Euler: Zen uses it, or something like it, and didn't have microphone troubles
Bruce Mowbray: I know. I'll talk to Zen about how it works for him.
Bruce Mowbray: Must be some hidden layer in there somewhere - that I'm not aware of.
    Agatha Macbeth: WB K
    Korel Laloix: Heya
Qt Core: about the hidden layers, are we speaking about the one insede or outside ourselves ?
    Qt Core: *inside
Santoshima Resident: any which way you'd like to approach the topic, Qt
Korel Laloix: Ones we hide from ourselves or others?
Qt Core: and then the one we can't or wont make visible
Bruce Mowbray: Hmmmm. I wasn't thinking of hiding those from others ... only from myself ...
Bruce Mowbray: and "finding" them through dreams, or encounters of various sorts — perhaps through art/literature/ etc.
Bruce Mowbray is wearing lots of layers today since it is SOOOO cold.
Korel Laloix: Is it always a good thing to find layers you hid from yourself?
Korel Laloix: Maybe it is adaptive to keep them down.
Bruce Mowbray: Not until you're prepared to discover them, Kori, IMHO.
Agatha Macbeth: Depends if they are positive or negative perhaps
Korel Laloix: Very uncomfortable finding parts of yourself you thought were gone or did not know about sometimes.
Qt Core: maybe it is needed the knowledge of their existence while ignoring the details
Bruce Mowbray: Does the word "layer" imply some degree of opaqueness, though?
Santoshima Resident: implies some levels of awareness, structure
Bruce Mowbray: In other words, wouldn't most of the layers betneath the outer ones have to be hidden?

    — B E L L —

Qt Core: i don't think, or i may just see the thing differently, it is like different top-secret levels, if you know the password (and the existence of the level) you see it clearly
Qt Core: i'm thinking most about the difference between the public and the private and the most private persona of people
Bruce Mowbray: That seems to echo what Kori was asking earlier — about the value of keeping things hidden from ourselves.
Bruce Mowbray: I don't mean "echo" actually, but along the same line.
    Korel Laloix smiles
Korel Laloix: Was just tyrhing to think of my layers.
Korel Laloix: Whichone is on top and when.
Korel Laloix: OR if I even agree with that idea.
Bruce Mowbray ponders the energy one has to expend to keep the most private personas hidden. . .
    Wol Euler nods
    Santoshima Resident: yes
Qt Core: don't know i think it become quite easy :-) or :-( depending on what you think about that
Santoshima Resident: easy? or habituated? or same thing?
    Qt Core: unconscious and mechanic
Bruce Mowbray: Learning to "prepare a face to meet the faces that I meet" (T.S. Eliot) is an important part of socialization ... not necessarily pathological. Might depend on the rigidity and/or falseness of those personas and how much we identify with them ...
    Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Eliza!
    Bruce Mowbray: Love your wings!
Qt Core: like stopping yourself punching idiots ;-)
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello again Liz
Eliza Madrigal: 's current display-name is "Eliza".
    Santoshima Resident: hi Eliza :)
Wol Euler: ah, hello again Eliza
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi everyone
    Wol Euler: duty done? :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

    — B E L L —

Bruce Mowbray: Seems to me that humans spend the first two years learning which layers to hide ... and then it days 20 years of therapy to un-hide them ...
Bruce Mowbray: not TWO year! Twenty years.
Bruce Mowbray: afk for a sec.
Agatha Macbeth: The software doesn't know zeros it seems
Wol Euler: perhaps "two" sounds like "twenty" in that accent :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Hmm
Agatha Macbeth: If it can understand Zen's accent it can understand anyone surely? ;-)
Wol Euler: keeping things hidden from oneself ... harder or easier than hiding from others? I think harder, sometimes
Wol Euler: because outside people see what you show them (and what slips through the cracks)
Bruce Mowbray: (I've taken off the mic. It's my typist who doesn't know 2 from 20.)

[ in reading the text, i see no problems with the 2 and 20s ... carry on with the voice activated typing, Bruce ... seems to work  / editors note]

    Wol Euler: heheheheh
    Agatha Macbeth: Aww
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Agatha Macbeth: No a's this time anyway
Eliza Madrigal: my great grandmother used to, twice a year, do complete cleaning of the house, which meant that *everything* came outside ... furniture, everything .... then was brought back in after cleaning was done. Not too many do that now, or could.
Wol Euler: apartment dwellers like myself would have a hard time
    Agatha Macbeth: Erk
Wol Euler: either rent a field, and a truck to get things there, or have only what fits on the balcony
    Bruce Mowbray: Wow, Eliza.
Wol Euler: did she live on or grow up on a farm, eliza?
Eliza Madrigal: when things came back in, those things that did, they were put in different places
Eliza Madrigal: she was one of 11, and no not a farm but close to rural in circumstance
Bruce Mowbray listens carefully to hear about folks who live on farms.
Xirana Oximoxi: 's current display-name is "Xirana".
    Wol Euler: oops
    Agatha Macbeth: Oo arr
    Wol Euler: hello xir
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello again Xira
    Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Xir!
    Santoshima Resident: hi Xir
    Xirana Oximoxi: hello everyone! :)
Eliza Madrigal: actually, hm, yes some of the family were farmer so likely so in a way actually
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Xiri :)
Eliza Madrigal: was just thinking of those "layers" and taking 20 years to sort through them
Eliza Madrigal: and that's what came to mind ^.^
    Wol Euler smiles.
Eliza Madrigal: (20 years seems short - nice deal if you can get it!)
Wol Euler: it would be nice to empty one's mind out and pick and choose what to let back in, and where to put it!
    Agatha Macbeth: Yes it does
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: that was her dropping practice I guess
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
    Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: most of us would find many, many things that we didn't know we had
    Wol Euler: I think
Wol Euler: (both emptying mind and emptying house :)
    Eliza Madrigal thinks that's true
Wol Euler: "things I forgot that I had" is a hidden layer
Eliza Madrigal: "forgotten in rainy day pile"
Wol Euler: the "did I really think I would read taht clipped-out article at a future date?" pile
    Eliza Madrigal giggling
Wol Euler: I have a huge one of those :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
Eliza Madrigal: surely some nice surprises hidden in the layers too
Wol Euler: undoubtably. I found a chair once :)
Wol Euler: I'd forgotten that I had it
    Eliza Madrigal: a whole chair?
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
    Agatha Macbeth: o.o
Wol Euler: a rather nice one, an Eames swivel chair
    Santoshima Resident: wow
Eliza Madrigal: swivel chair no less ...
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
Eliza Madrigal wants to shop at Wol's place
Agatha Macbeth: How do you lose a chair?
Wol Euler: my one really nice piece of furniture to be honest
Wol Euler: by not looking at it, Aggers
Wol Euler: it was in plain view, but I stopped looking
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah
Eliza Madrigal: many have lost spouses that way
Wol Euler: "things I've unconsciously decided not to look at" is anohter hidden layer
Agatha Macbeth: The lost chair syndrome strikes again
    Wol Euler nods.

    — B E L L —

Wol Euler grins and nods to Eliza
Agatha Macbeth: Time to move on I think
Eliza Madrigal: Hugs, Aggers, nice to see you today
Agatha Macbeth: Have fun with your layers
    Agatha Macbeth: Hurgz
Xirana Oximoxi: bye bye Aga!!! take care:)
Wol Euler: goodnight aggers, sleep well
    Wol Euler: brb, bio-break
Santoshima Resident: bye all ~ thank you
    Eliza Madrigal: bye San
    Xirana Oximoxi: bye San!
Bruce Mowbray: I should be scraping up some layers of supper ... so, I'll also be gone. Thanks, everyone.
Eliza Madrigal waves to Bruce, happy dining
    Qt Core: bye Bruce
    Bruce Mowbray: ty!
Xirana Oximoxi: bye Bruce ... I also go ... see you soon all! :-)
Eliza Madrigal: bye Xiri too :)
Wol Euler: bye bruce, bye san
Qt Core: and i'll go see wich hidden level my dreams will pick tonight ... got some weird ones lately
    Eliza Madrigal: Night Qt :)
Wol Euler: goodnight qt, dream well
Qt Core: 'night all, have fun
    Eliza Madrigal: you too
Eliza Madrigal: :) guess my joke wasn't funny
Wol Euler looks back to see what she missed
Eliza Madrigal: just everyone going, haha
Eliza Madrigal: now that you're back home Wol there are good films out ...
Eliza Madrigal: when was the last time you went to a theater?
Wol Euler: oh, not in years actually
    Eliza Madrigal: Inception in NS?
Wol Euler: saw lots of films and TV last month, but all at home
    Wol Euler: perhaps that!
Wol Euler: two and a half years
Eliza Madrigal: I'm a bit hooked on Downton Abbey myself ... better than a lot of films
Wol Euler: oooooh, yes! LOVED downton
Wol Euler: saw all of series 1 2 and 3
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eliza Madrigal: It was a surprise to me ... hven't seen season 1
    Eliza Madrigal: began at 2
Wol Euler: I had it all compressed, on DVD
Wol Euler: parents were happy to watch it again with me
Eliza Madrigal: :)) better than watching qvc or news :)
Wol Euler: I don't think it's a spoiler if I predict that the "grubby little chauffer" is going to turn out to be the pride — and the saving — of the family
Eliza Madrigal: he IS a nice twist
Wol Euler: and Maggie Smith is so marvellous :)
Eliza Madrigal: she's the reason I gave it a chance
    Wol Euler smiles.
Eliza Madrigal: but I still believe in films ...
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
Wol Euler: let me recommend one to you, "Judy Smart"
Wol Euler: saw it on the plane to Toronto
Eliza Madrigal: what did you like about it?
Eliza Madrigal: something nice about a theater's ability to suspend all the cares of life for a while and then set you free in a new way ... perhaps cathartic like my great grandmother's cleaning
    Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: it was a clever idea, which I won't give away, and very well carried out
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Wol Euler: I liked the characters, found them believable and ... say inviting
    Eliza Madrigal: made a note
Wol Euler: perhaps that wasn't the right name, google doesn't seem to know that as a film
Eliza Madrigal: hm ... it is a pretty dull name, haha

    — B E L L —

Eliza Madrigal: for a film I mean. maybe that was the character's name
    Eliza Madrigal: ?
    Wol Euler: "Ruby Sparks"
Wol Euler: that was the name
Wol Euler: much more imaginative :)
Wol Euler: but yes it was her name
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, sounds familiar now

    Wol Euler: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1839492/

Wol Euler: (I hope that is in English for you, IMDB insists in showing it to me in German)
    Eliza Madrigal: what a premise
Eliza Madrigal: and yes it is English
Wol Euler: yeah :) but it works
    Wol Euler: good
Eliza Madrigal: Have you seen Purple Rose of Cairo?
Wol Euler: no, I don't know that
    Wol Euler: I think
Wol Euler: but I know the story, yes; similar idea
Eliza Madrigal: :) okay, will see it
Eliza Madrigal: was nice catching up a bit today Wol, ty
Wol Euler: thank you, I enjoyed it as well
Eliza Madrigal: and Hi/Bye Kori if you return soon
Wol Euler: goodnight eliza, take care
Wol Euler looks at the time
Wol Euler: I should go too, goodnight korel!
    Eliza Madrigal: Night :)
