Eliza Madrigal: 's current display-name is "Eliza".
Bleu Oleander waves hi to Eliza
Bleu Oleander: pretty in red :)
Eliza Madrigal: Morning :) Thank you.... toes not quite staying in shoes, but... we do our best
    Bleu Oleander: he he
    Bleu Oleander: how are u?
    --BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: doing well ... creative surges here and there, nice night with my son yeserday... so, good :)
    Eliza Madrigal: And you?
    Bleu Oleander: nice!
    Bleu Oleander: I'm good
    Bleu Oleander: lovely day here
Bleu Oleander: warming up to near 80
Eliza Madrigal: that's lovely if dry, or nicely breezy
    Bleu Oleander: dry and breezy
Eliza Madrigal: I think that's what made the evening so lovely... not only did we see a surprisingly great film, but then ate outside by a lake...
Bleu Oleander: having brunch outside later
    Eliza Madrigal: fireplace
    Bleu Oleander: what film?
Eliza Madrigal: wonderful :)) yes that's the best
Eliza Madrigal: Well, if you had a hat I'd say hold on...
    Eliza Madrigal: it was...
    Eliza Madrigal: "The Lego Movie"
    Eliza Madrigal: :)))
Bleu Oleander: :) not heard of that one
Eliza Madrigal: you know, I usually let them go to animated things with their dad, unless anime, but this was a real out-of-nowhere treat
Bleu Oleander has to get out more lol
Bleu Oleander: will look into that
    Eliza Madrigal: Lego Matrix, hah
Bleu Oleander: do you need to experience it through the eyes of children?
Eliza Madrigal: not at all... actually I think most of the kids in the audience were too young for it
Eliza Madrigal: not in the sense of offensiveness, but just not quite conceptually adept enough
Bleu Oleander: ok will look into it
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Bleu Oleander: thanks!
Eliza Madrigal: most welcome... more fun than I thought. We would like to see Monuments Men too, but... hm.. so many films of interest now
Bleu Oleander: yes soooo much to see and do . . . gets overwhelming
Eliza Madrigal: indeed, many worlds to juggle
Eliza Madrigal: So, is there an occasion for the brunch?
Bleu Oleander: just friends who want to pick our brains about NYC
Eliza Madrigal: you are the local trip guide?
Bleu Oleander: and generally enjoy the beautiful weather
Bleu Oleander: our friends think of us as experts on NYC :)
Eliza Madrigal smiles... not a bad title
Bleu Oleander: i'll take it lol
Eliza Madrigal: trouble is, after you talk with them... you'll want to get on a plane
    Bleu Oleander: I do now!!!!
Bleu Oleander: although I can miss the snow
Eliza Madrigal: know the feeling... am a bit restless myself :)
Bleu Oleander: its been really really cold back there
Eliza Madrigal: watching bits of the Olympics... snow... would be good to learn snowbarding
Eliza Madrigal: does anyone ski anymore? :)
Bleu Oleander: yes, my family does
Bleu Oleander: I used to do all those winter sports
Bleu Oleander: I really loved skating
Eliza Madrigal: love ice skating too
    Bleu Oleander: tobogganing
Eliza Madrigal: there are amazing russian skaters this year... takes one's breath away to watch
Bleu Oleander: yes always amazing to watch
Bleu Oleander: haven't seen any of it yet ... been so busy
Eliza Madrigal nods.... have been catching bits, but even missed opening ceremonies
    Bleu Oleander: yes me too
Eliza Madrigal: still, it is so inspiring
Eliza Madrigal: entire being honed... so precise
    Bleu Oleander: indeed
Bleu Oleander: so I came across a beautiful poem
    Eliza Madrigal listens
Bleu Oleander: Ithaca by Cavafy ... know it?
    Eliza Madrigal: I don't
    Eliza Madrigal: yet ^^
Bleu Oleander: 20th C greek poet
    Eliza Madrigal: an epic?
    Bleu Oleander: http://www.cavafy.com/poems/content.asp?cat=1&id=74
    Bleu Oleander: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n3n2Ox4Yfk
    Bleu Oleander: a spoken version
    Bleu Oleander: not very long
Eliza Madrigal: Thank you! You know the road to Ithaca is common as an expression and reference, but sometimes it is startling to realize one has never read the source
Bleu Oleander: I've recently read the Odyssey
Bleu Oleander: I was amazed by it
    --BELL--
Bleu Oleander: Homer, who ever he was, one or many, was amazing for his time
    Bleu Oleander: hey Aggers
    Agatha Macbeth bleuandlizhugs
    Bleu Oleander: nice leopardness
Eliza Madrigal: I can't quite grasp how these materials come through - sight so vast and intricate at once - such a grace
    Eliza Madrigal: /rwar
    Eliza Madrigal: lol
Agatha Macbeth: Would be even nicer if it would rez properly
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Aggers :)
Eliza Madrigal: you are rezzed for me
Agatha Macbeth: Has any else found SL slow and odd the last couple of days?
    Eliza Madrigal: YES
Agatha Macbeth: Pain in the arse
Bleu Oleander: not any worse than usual for me
Eliza Madrigal: lines skipping all about... going where they wish
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Agatha Macbeth: I was at a meeting last night and half the avs were grey
Eliza Madrigal: a woman I spoke to a few weeks ago talked about her current creative endeavor and said the vision was "downloaded into her brain" I love that
Bleu Oleander: I think graphics cards get out of date
Agatha Macbeth: Hm, I not long updated mine!
Eliza Madrigal: my computer is showing its first signs of "please be more gentle with me"
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Aww
Bleu Oleander: so no excuse for you then, just bad karma :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Could be
    Eliza Madrigal: pixel karma
    Bleu Oleander: lol
    Agatha Macbeth: Karma chameleons
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Come and go
Agatha Macbeth: Wonder where Boy george is now?
Bleu Oleander: so I was talking about a poem I just came across
    Bleu Oleander: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n3n2Ox4Yfk
    Agatha Macbeth listens
    Bleu Oleander: very beautiful
Bleu Oleander: was read at Jackie O's funeral
Eliza Madrigal: "not expecting Ithaca to make you rich"
    Eliza Madrigal: ah, lovely
Bleu Oleander: the richness is in your experiences
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Eliza Madrigal: funnily I wrote something yesterday, and Jackie had a prominent voice in it
Eliza Madrigal: not ready for prime time, but there is something she said, that played in my mind for many years... kind of defining me in some ways
Eliza Madrigal: about raising children "If you bungle raising your children I don't think that anything else really matters."
Eliza Madrigal: has taken me 22 years to 1> read her direct quote, and 2> question it :)
Bleu Oleander: what are your thoughts on questioning it?
Eliza Madrigal: so many... it is impossible not to bungle, first of all
Eliza Madrigal: yes... I thought she was saying, and do.. that if you choose to be a parent, treat it like the high calling it is...
Eliza Madrigal: haven't thrown out that part
Bleu Oleander: I think the poem is saying the opposite in a way
Eliza Madrigal: but... easy to take the image of "good parent" to extremes
    Eliza Madrigal: regarding living
    Eliza Madrigal: YES, Bleu
    Eliza Madrigal listens
Bleu Oleander: if you finds your goals not reached, its in the journey that the meaning lies
Bleu Oleander: not important that it all turn out perfect
    Eliza Madrigal nods...
    Eliza Madrigal: and perfect changes
    Bleu Oleander: moving target
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
Eliza Madrigal: Jackie is one of those figures sort of calcified into an image
    Agatha Macbeth: Hm
Bleu Oleander: Odysseus wanted to go home, but it was the journey that gave him wisdom and experience
Eliza Madrigal: I thought she was my real mother when little for a while lol
    Bleu Oleander: funny!
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
Bleu Oleander: Camelot kinda fell apart
    Agatha Macbeth: Blame Mordred
Eliza Madrigal: things do... fall apart
Bleu Oleander: plenty of blame to go around lol
Eliza Madrigal: maybe that is a heart of the poem too... why you can't store up the treasures, but appreciate the experiences
    Bleu Oleander: indeed
    Agatha Macbeth: True
    --BELL--
Bleu Oleander: but along the way stop to collect fine things and gather knowledge ... our goals give us a marvelous journey
    Eliza Madrigal: fine things :)
    Bleu Oleander: beauty
    Agatha Macbeth: Agreed
Agatha Macbeth: But no beast :p
Eliza Madrigal: oh, she's in there
    Eliza Madrigal: >hahaha<
Bleu Oleander: well, have to kiss a few beasts lol
Agatha Macbeth: I try not to
    Eliza Madrigal: for sure :)
    Bleu Oleander: ha ha!
    Agatha Macbeth: Just mute em
Eliza Madrigal: you don't now they are beasts til the morning
    Agatha Macbeth: 0.0
    Bleu Oleander: :)
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
    Eliza Madrigal: *know
Agatha Macbeth wonders what Liz has been up to
    Eliza Madrigal laughs
Eliza Madrigal: Liz is way more interesting in her mind palace
Agatha Macbeth: Ah, maybe I should visit sometime...
Bleu Oleander: I think we do :)
Eliza Madrigal: Vera Wang school.. she keeps herself boring hoping to chanel the color into her work
    Eliza Madrigal: :) Bleu
Agatha Macbeth: One way of doing it
Eliza Madrigal: yes we are intterlinking mind palaces full of treasure
    Bleu Oleander: indeed
Agatha Macbeth: Mine's a bit dusty I think
Eliza Madrigal: what would help? open windows?
Bleu Oleander: thats what we do here
Agatha Macbeth: That's why I have a dirty mind <chortle>
    Eliza Madrigal: precisely
    Eliza Madrigal: haha, both
    Bleu Oleander: lol
Eliza Madrigal: at dinner last night we were talking about architecture... Wol sent me an interesting link to a garage built here in Miami, that is designed with such vision
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh
Eliza Madrigal: and my son was saying that he felt the "blank sheet" version of creativity is not true
    Agatha Macbeth: Interesting
Bleu Oleander: what is the blank sheet version?
Eliza Madrigal: he said... because one doesn't want to mess it up... too perfect
    Eliza Madrigal: blank slate
    Eliza Madrigal: or canvas
Bleu Oleander: what does that mean?
Eliza Madrigal: well for me this cuts against the grain of the way "beginners mind" is spoken about...
Eliza Madrigal: but hm, it is hard to articulate his point... which was actually a techie one about the design of creative tools
Eliza Madrigal: such as for ipad, drawing and such
    Eliza Madrigal: "where to begin"
Bleu Oleander: not sure what you are saying
    Eliza Madrigal: :) sorry
Bleu Oleander: could be me ha ha
Bleu Oleander: goes for second cup of coffee
Eliza Madrigal: nah, not baked yet
Eliza Madrigal: I have trouble articulating his ideas... but there is something there that I'd like to
Eliza Madrigal: about not falling into formulas
Agatha Macbeth: I've noticed ideas sometimes spring to mind fully formed without going through a 'step by step' process perhaps that's what he's referring to
Eliza Madrigal: which I do :)
Bleu Oleander: some of creativity is designed into the tools? directed by the design of the tools?
Eliza Madrigal: that maybe the default of blank page should not be a given
Eliza Madrigal: an example come to mind Aggers?
Bleu Oleander: kinda like language colors the expression of our thoughts?
Agatha Macbeth: Can't think of one off my head, but they do happen
Eliza Madrigal: hm, yes, and yet without 'any' material there...any thoughts, hard to play freely and not treat the process as too fragile
    Eliza Madrigal nods Aggers
    Agatha Macbeth: Lady in red
Eliza Madrigal: people were designing buildings for a while, that were soooo, blank - thought to free up mind space
Eliza Madrigal: no directedness or guidance
Eliza Madrigal: or as close to that as possible
    Bleu Oleander: no distractions theory?
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
    --BELL--
Bleu Oleander loves distractions (in the good way)
Eliza Madrigal: thought about this a lot with the aesthetics of 'her' and kept asking myself "what IS it"
    Bleu Oleander: "it" ?
Eliza Madrigal: in the film, tech was really integrated... voice made sense because there was no "please repeat or try again" interrupting the flow
Eliza Madrigal: and there weren't a lot of ads..
Eliza Madrigal: or a lot of cars
    Agatha Macbeth: Must be nice
Eliza Madrigal: all the things that I tend to think are getting in the way of creativity
Eliza Madrigal: but, it was 'wrong' somehow
    Eliza Madrigal: so muted
Bleu Oleander: never thought of cars getting in the way of creativity before
Eliza Madrigal: ah, come to Miami :)
Bleu Oleander: ads yes, but I don't watch TV
Eliza Madrigal: city designed for cars not people
Agatha Macbeth: I'll take the weather :p
Eliza Madrigal: well ads are everywhere
    Bleu Oleander: well Phoenix too
Eliza Madrigal: sign sign everywhere a sign :)
Bleu Oleander: its all part of the culture and culture has always influenced creativity
    Agatha Macbeth: It's a sign
Eliza Madrigal: I do think you have, and PaB has a lot to do with my not falling too far into platitude traps at times
Eliza Madrigal: got a FB meme the other day about "usually regretting words but not silence" and it aggravated me to no end.. wasn't sure why, lol
Eliza Madrigal: maybe reminded me of Amy's husband :)
Bleu Oleander: doesn't make sense to me
Bleu Oleander: one can regret words or silence
Agatha Macbeth: I think there's a right time for both
Eliza Madrigal: no desire to live a cliche'd spiritual life, want the direct investigation
    Eliza Madrigal: hmmm, yes
Agatha Macbeth: The trick is knowing which
Bleu Oleander: had a salon the other night with a holocaust survivor
    Eliza Madrigal listens
    Bleu Oleander: speaking of silence
    Bleu Oleander: he was 7
    Bleu Oleander: amazing story
Eliza Madrigal: can you share a little?
Bleu Oleander: a friend of ours made a film about him
Bleu Oleander: they showed the film and we had q and a with him and the film makers
Bleu Oleander: he has managed to make a wonderful life for himself
Bleu Oleander: inspite of his early years in the camps
Eliza Madrigal nods.. think that is often the case, which is rather astounding when one thinks about it
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: he said it was important to remember so we don't do it again
Bleu Oleander: but I would say that we are still doing it
Eliza Madrigal: have heard many stories... have a museum here where there is almost always a survivor who volunteers to be there and talk to people
Eliza Madrigal: yes? what are you thinking of particularly?
Bleu Oleander: so in many ways haven't learned our lessons
    Eliza Madrigal: think that's true
Eliza Madrigal: so much to unpack
Bleu Oleander: can point to any number of spots around the world
Bleu Oleander: included the way we deal with the poor in our country
Eliza Madrigal: yes, and increasingly moreso
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Eliza Madrigal: odd to think we can know so much and not be able to live what we know as a collective
Bleu Oleander: the 1% and the rest of us
    Bleu Oleander: yes!
    Bleu Oleander: we know better!
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Bleu Oleander: but what stops us from action?
Eliza Madrigal: a bit of the answer may be in the lego movie actually... hehehe
    Bleu Oleander: say more?
Bleu Oleander: legos save the world?
Eliza Madrigal: well, they are the world
    Agatha Macbeth: Yay Lego rocks
Eliza Madrigal: and ... hm.. really have to see it
Bleu Oleander: one person/relationship at a time
Bleu Oleander: be the change you want to see
Eliza Madrigal: but it is the leap to actual implementation of high vision
Eliza Madrigal: which is so hard... everyone is individually creative
Eliza Madrigal: or trapped into more root mode within roles
Bleu Oleander: inspite of their cars :)
Eliza Madrigal: and how to loosen that hold
    Eliza Madrigal: hahahhaa
    Eliza Madrigal: yeah
    --BELL--
    Eliza Madrigal: *robot not root
Bleu Oleander: was pondering root mode :)
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
    Eliza Madrigal: http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/07/showbi...ie-reviews-ew/
Bleu Oleander: "throw out the manuals and follow the lead of your own ingenuity, improvising new combinations for the building blocks in front of you"
Eliza Madrigal: would be hard to link in words, how this relates to learning the lessons of the holocaust but it is there
Eliza Madrigal: builders in SL would really relate to it too :))
    Agatha Macbeth: Builders' brewery
Bleu Oleander: artists help us see new ways
Bleu Oleander: well have to go
Bleu Oleander: so nice being with you both
    Agatha Macbeth: Doggie time?
    Bleu Oleander: brunch time
    Agatha Macbeth: Even better :p
    Bleu Oleander: :P
Eliza Madrigal: :)) have a wonderful brunch Bleu
    Eliza Madrigal: thanks so much
Bleu Oleander: have enjoyed our conversation as always!
Bleu Oleander: take care and have a wonderful day
    Agatha Macbeth: Lego talk
    Eliza Madrigal: me too!
    Eliza Madrigal: ♥ ♥ ♥
    Agatha Macbeth: ♥
    Bleu Oleander: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
    Bleu Oleander: byeee
    Eliza Madrigal: bfn
    Agatha Macbeth: Take care
    Agatha Macbeth: Great legs :)
Eliza Madrigal: love the outfit she's wearing... yes :) it is a bit ice skatey... but dark
Agatha Macbeth: I like her better dark actually hehe
    Eliza Madrigal grins
Agatha Macbeth: That's nice hair btw
Eliza Madrigal: thanks... do like it.. but would like it to move more
Agatha Macbeth: Goes with your skin well
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh not flexi?
Eliza Madrigal: have been playing in my inventory and so much feels antiquated...
Agatha Macbeth: Hm, well depends on the individual I think
Eliza Madrigal: but feel comfortable today
    Agatha Macbeth: You look lovely
Agatha Macbeth: I got used to the mermaid tho :p
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
    Agatha Macbeth: Fishy tales
Eliza Madrigal: mermaids in kimonos on horses
Eliza Madrigal: that's what legos and SL have in common
    Eliza Madrigal: lol
    Agatha Macbeth: An excellent combo!
Agatha Macbeth: Ah I remember my Lego well
Agatha Macbeth: Used to have a whole town
Eliza Madrigal: yes? did you make the same things, or?
Agatha Macbeth: Buildings or planes usually
Eliza Madrigal: I made lots of houses with pools
    Agatha Macbeth: Yeh
Agatha Macbeth: And a Zero X once heh
Eliza Madrigal: process would usually break down if I could not find the right color to finish a wall
    Eliza Madrigal: Zero X?
Agatha Macbeth: A spacecraft from the first Thunderbirds film
Agatha Macbeth: Before your time :p
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eliza Madrigal: not before my time, but somehow didn't make it my way
Agatha Macbeth: Actually it would have been, late 60s
Agatha Macbeth: Just before you were born
Eliza Madrigal: yes but I have been odd in my interests... often going back when others were going forward
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah
Agatha Macbeth: You need to find your own pace
Eliza Madrigal: oldest daughter is like that too... her friends haven't heard of the music she likes much... like Billy Joel, heheh
    Eliza Madrigal: scary
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Agatha Macbeth: Billy Joel is good
Eliza Madrigal: http://themoth.org/posts/stories/lego-crimes <-- this is REALLY worth listening to "Lego Crimes"
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh my
Eliza Madrigal: did they have the clear pieces when you were first playing with legos ? I think those came about around the time my sister was born... 1980
Agatha Macbeth: No, we had those
Agatha Macbeth: And ones which lit up too
Eliza Madrigal: really! guess I missed out
Agatha Macbeth: Should have got better by your time ;)
    Eliza Madrigal: am thinking that
Eliza Madrigal: wonder what happened in the distribution lines
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe bad management :p
    --BELL--
    Eliza Madrigal: :) perhaps
    Agatha Macbeth thinks of LL
Eliza Madrigal: hahah, yes so true
Agatha Macbeth: Can't believe how garbage their viewer actually is
Eliza Madrigal: needless interruption of flow, yet somehow people find a way to make beautful realities
Agatha Macbeth: Think folks will always find that
Agatha Macbeth: There to be didcovered
    Eliza Madrigal: water course way
    Agatha Macbeth: Course ;)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: have so enjoyed this time... but biology homework calls
    Agatha Macbeth: 0.0
Eliza Madrigal: yeah... not sure what I was thinking... giggles
Agatha Macbeth: Best of luck with biology
    Eliza Madrigal: pretty :))
    Eliza Madrigal: leggy leggy leggy
Agatha Macbeth: Just don't try building a monster
    Eliza Madrigal: bfn :)
    Agatha Macbeth: TC
Eliza Madrigal: hahahhaa.... the beast within
    Eliza Madrigal: hugs
    Agatha Macbeth: *hug*</chortle>

Prompted by reading the poem again, to do a little wiki search. Lo and behold:

thank you for finding that Eliza!

"Ithaca gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you would not have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.

And If you find her poor, Ithaca won't have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you will have understood by then what these Ithacas mean."

PaB is an Ithaca for me . . . full of experience from a marvelous journey.
