The Guardian for this meeting was No Self. The comments are by No Self.
Wol Euler: good morning, eliza
Eliza Madrigal: Hello Wol... really nice pattern on your outfit this morning
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: thank you
Wol Euler: you're looking very colourfully exotic
Wol Euler: mermaid?
Eliza Madrigal: yes, although I wear it like a dress mostly... just love the feeling it has, like scraps just pulled together
Eliza Madrigal: made by "KH" ... of ice skates fame
Wol Euler: ah :)
Eliza Madrigal: what is going on with you? :)
Wol Euler: well, mixed
Wol Euler: woke in the night with upset stomach and was awake for over an hour
Eliza Madrigal: :(
Wol Euler: on top of going to bed too late anyway
Wol Euler: so I'm groggy and still less-tha-perfect in the stomach
Wol Euler: and have to work this afternoon so I'll miss the guardians
Eliza Madrigal: eating well generally?
Wol Euler: other than that, fine :)
Eliza Madrigal: will miss that too... hope everyone finds their way :)
Wol Euler: actually it started early on. I felt as I was having dinner around 6:30 that there was something wrong
Wol Euler: ah :)
Wol Euler: they will at least realize how much you do for the group
Eliza Madrigal: :P - as I said to Stevenaia the other day, I cause as much trouble as I fix
--BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Qt :)
Wol Euler: buongiorno qt
Qt Core: Hi Wol, Eliza
Qt Core: (and hi lag too,,,)
Wol Euler: hehehehe
Qt Core: mmm, resident lag, that is a nice name ;-)
Eliza Madrigal waves to lag
Wol Euler: our constant companion
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Wol Euler: it#s like the weather
Eliza Madrigal: and lag reports equally as unreliable
Wol Euler grins.
Qt Core: rainy for the past month/month and a half, with a couple of wonderful cristalline clear day
Eliza Madrigal: nourishment :) but after that long I guess gets tiring? we go through bouts here but usually so refreshing, because of the heat
Wol Euler nods.
Eliza Madrigal: weather has been near perfection in Miami... almost like the univerese was putting us through the rest in order to give an extra special treat
Qt Core: rainy/cloudy days are annoying but i really hate the sun low in front of me while driving :-)
Eliza Madrigal nods
Wol Euler: that reminds me of the end of winter in Toronto, it would rain from April 1 to April 30, all day every day
Qt Core: well, here we have showers in april, there is a saying like this "April, every day a barrel"
Wol Euler: hehehehehe
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Wol Euler: the magnolias are budding out here already, it looks like we won't get a winter this year
Eliza Madrigal: disappointed?
Qt Core: i often wonder about places with complete different climate, like on the other side of the planet, the idea of christmas with shorts is so weird ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: hard to be disappointed by magnolias
Eliza Madrigal: haha.. Christmas on the beach can be fun
Wol Euler: hehehehe
Wol Euler: you would know!
Eliza Madrigal: I would
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Wol Euler smiles.
Qt Core: yes, but here it has a sad introspective feeling
Eliza Madrigal: Xmas sandman
Wol Euler: doesn't the sand get in your eggnog?
Eliza Madrigal laughs...
Eliza Madrigal: well, mostly it just makes one feel like they have a holiday for no real reason, so in order to accept the gift with some justification, we do the rituals
Qt Core: on the other ends it is quite good for the eyes having the carnival in brasil in full summer ;-)
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eliza Madrigal: lots of Brasilians in Miami
Qt Core: in Italy too, mosty on soccer fields ;-)
Wol Euler smiles.
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: ahhh that's other miami news... Beckham has come to town, opening soccer schools here
Wol Euler: woo
Eliza Madrigal: although I'd think by now he's more famous for underwear ads
Eliza Madrigal giggles
Wol Euler grins.
Eliza Madrigal: sigh... I should go back to bed
Wol Euler: well, all athletes need a second career
Eliza Madrigal: true
Wol Euler: yes, get some more sleep, dear eliza
Eliza Madrigal: most people now, actually
Wol Euler: sweet and calming dreams
Qt Core: bye Eliza sleep well
Eliza Madrigal: thank you Wol... hope you feel better
Eliza Madrigal: nice to see you Qt, hugs
--BELL--
Qt Core: are you ill, Wol ?
Wol Euler: upset stomach, I was up for an hour during the night and never really got back to sleep
Qt Core: ouch
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: on the global scale of things, it could be much worse
Wol Euler: but leaves me feeling a big rough today
Qt Core: oh, yes, it could rain (thinking about Igor in Frankenstein Jr.)
Wol Euler: hehehehehe
Qt Core: one of the greatest movie around
Wol Euler nods.
Qt Core: just saw it a couple weeks ago, one of the few i can't stop and watch it whenever i find it
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: I have books that are like that for me, which I re-read at least once a year
Qt Core: i have a few i've reread, but none so often
Qt Core: (i almost think it would be an insult to all the unread books :-) )
Wol Euler: hehehe
Qt Core: then i go read silly things like fanfictions instead of let say Tolstoj
Wol Euler: that is true, but there are so many that I know I'll never finish them all *anyway*
Wol Euler: not even all the ones that I have heard of and know that I want to read
Qt Core: i don'r even know if i'll ever read all the books i own now
Wol Euler: ha!
Wol Euler also has dozens of unread books on her shelves
--BELL--
Qt Core: i often felt some form of sadness as i would not be able to read all the Internet, never about not being able to read all the books... maybe is that the Internet is faster and accessible, like a drug ?
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: definitely a drug
Qt Core: wikipedia being the worst in this scenario ;-)
Wol Euler: hehehe
Wol Euler: not for me, interestingly enough, my follow-the-rabbit adventures there are usually pretty shallow
Wol Euler: I tend to find ... sites that tell stories, I guess, and follow those
Qt Core: there are a few sites i decided i better don't (directly) visit, like ted talks ;-)
Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: I *listen* to lots of TED talks, at work, as if they were radio programs
Qt Core: i really loved the ted talks by Hans Rosling (and his data visualization software)
Wol Euler: yes, those were amazing, his animated charts
Qt Core: wonder how much trends we could discover randomly assigning dataset ;-)
Wol Euler: there was a website, perhaps still is, whose name I can't remember, which did huge amounts of voluntary data collection
Wol Euler: in order to create cross-over datasets
Wol Euler: correlating e.g. hair colour to shoe size
Wol Euler: (that was a made-up example)
Wol Euler: one REAL finding which surprised me was this:
Wol Euler: the best predictor, by a large margin, of whether you would enjoy switchng from Windows to Mac is: whether you like to dance
Wol Euler: if you enjoy dancing, you will enjoy the switch
Wol Euler: amazing :)
Qt Core: Ahhh, now i understand why i hate Macs!
Wol Euler: exactly! see?#
Wol Euler: heheheh
Qt Core: (just the animations of the windows make me seasick)
Wol Euler smiles.
Qt Core: i hope one could switch them off
--BELL--
Wol Euler: I'm not sure which animations you mean
Wol Euler: I'm not aware of any
Wol Euler: except the way that print dialogs unscroll from the title bar ...
Qt Core: when minimizing a window it seem like you grab an angle and peel it from the screen
Qt Core: minimizing or closing, don't remember exactly
Wol Euler: oh, that! yes, but in practice I never do that ...
Qt Core: that said i think i'm going to battle with wanting an iPad (probably a mini one) in next months ;-)
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: they are pretty sweet
Qt Core: they remind me so much of the star trek pads...
Qt Core: i need to go now
Qt Core: Bye Wol, hoping you'll get better fast
Wol Euler: thank you
Wol Euler: enjoy the day, qt
