This morning Adams, Fael (and Faenik) and Riddle (guardian) jumped around many words about Reality.
Entry to SL and Rieul were a little rough at 10 minutes of 7.
Riddle Sideways: good morning
Fael Illyar: Hello Riddle
Fael Illyar: Hi Adams
Riddle Sideways: hope I did not keep you waiting
Riddle Sideways: Hi Adams
Adams Rubble: Hi Fael, Riddle
Riddle Sideways: very odd entry into SL today
Fael Illyar: how’s that?
Adams Rubble: yes, very. like yesterday
Riddle Sideways: my last location was unavailable
Adams Rubble: It said this area was closed
Riddle Sideways: so it sent me to some main gate
Adams Rubble: took me somewhere else
Riddle Sideways: thousands of avs
Adams Rubble: then I came back via circular route
Adams Rubble: yesterday I was in a crowd and a big horse dropped on us
Riddle Sideways: lol
Riddle Sideways: where you hurt?
Adams Rubble: hehe
We start guessing about how SL works behind those curtains.
Fael Illyar: I wonder what it is that’s not working right.
Fael Illyar: or if they’re intentionally dropping the functionality to keep other things working
Riddle Sideways: it acts like (I don’t really know) that the admins close an area to do backups and maintainance
Riddle Sideways: one area closed at a time
Adams Rubble: except that both yesterday and today it was so easy to get here afterwards
Fael Illyar: did you teleport to neighboring sim and then walk or fly over?
Faenik loves wells!
Adams Rubble: I teleported right here
Riddle Sideways: so did I
Adams Rubble: I left myself at the Zen Retreat last night
Riddle Sideways: I left myself (great phrase) at the beach
Adams Rubble: :)
Fael Illyar: oh, I forgot to logout for the night yesterday :)
Adams Rubble: SO SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE ENTRY PHASE
Adams Rubble: oH i SAW YOU AT THE TABLE LAST NIGHT
Fael Illyar: I was wondering why I didn’t remember logging in today :)
Adams Rubble: sorry about the caps
Adams Rubble: I thought you were meditating but saw you were still on at 9:30 our time last night
Adams Rubble: 6:30 SLT
Worlds and Realities, Virtual and Real life, Imagined and created, From the past and into the future.
Riddle Sideways: this dialog is fitting right in with my current thoughts on multiple realities
Adams Rubble: :)
Riddle Sideways: I was reading Maxines reply to Storms sandbox email
Riddle Sideways: how she found this terra forming so star trekie
Fael Illyar: Ah, that, I remember reading it and being quite wide eyed at the comparison :)
Riddle Sideways: I also ‘left myself’ dancing at VR3d and also amid building in AW last night
Riddle Sideways: we are shaping our worlds
Fael Illyar: the power of imagination :)
Riddle Sideways: then we walk away for a while
Fael Illyar: the only differences with imagination is that SL is more limited and that you can show what you’ve created to others too :)
Riddle Sideways: over the weekend I was at a friends house
Riddle Sideways: who has yet another brilliant child
Riddle Sideways: who had a mulit-dimentional world
Riddle Sideways: in his imagination
Riddle Sideways: he was writting it all down
Faenik: indeed?
Fael Illyar: multidimensional world?
Riddle Sideways: he showed me the maps and the start of the novel
Riddle Sideways: yes, with me speeling is optional
Fael Illyar: no, not the spelling … I didn’t actually even notice that :)
Fael Illyar: I was wondering what sort of multidimensional world
Riddle Sideways: Sam was explaining his worlds in exactly the math coords I study for n dimensions
Riddle Sideways: without knowing the name tesseract, he told me about it and had drawn something close
Fael Illyar: Ok, that’s quite impressive.
Riddle Sideways: this connects with SL where somebody has built a structure close to being a tesseract house
Riddle Sideways: of course I can’t find my way back to it
Riddle Sideways: :)
Fael Illyar: :)
Faenik: why not?
It bears repeating, that I am liking Faenik more and more each time we are together. Today, from my camera angle, Faenik was more redish from Fael’s red wings
Riddle Sideways: is it just me or has reality become more and more plastic
Fael Illyar: what do you mean with plastic reality?
Riddle Sideways: moldable, layered, thin
Riddle Sideways: words fail
Adams Rubble: I think it is a dimension of reality
Fael Illyar: what is reality?
Adams Rubble: As new ideas, inventions, developments, etc. come into the world, it is not the world that changes
Adams Rubble: on one level it does
Adams Rubble: but not the basics
Adams Rubble: just new ways of manipulating things, communicating
Fael Illyar: unless you consider the world to be just those ideas, developments and such :)
Adams Rubble: nope
Adams Rubble: :)
Then the playing with juxaposing ourselves in time.
Riddle Sideways: In 50 years we will still have legs and need to eat and … the basics
Riddle Sideways: but our life styles
Riddle Sideways: our tools
Riddle Sideways: etc. will be very different
Adams Rubble: yes
Adams Rubble: and some us won;t be here :)
Riddle Sideways: yes, I was not mentioning that
Faenik: why not?
Fael Illyar: although, eating might be different from what it is now ;)
Riddle Sideways: in the 60s I was always reading about how we would have flying cars in 2000
Riddle Sideways: but no where did they mention the internet nor SL
Fael Illyar: there are aeroplanes that use less fuel than a car
Fael Illyar: that can move around the same amounts of things.
Adams Rubble: and we still live the same basic lives as we did (those of us there in the 60s)
Adams Rubble: and we are still searching for happiness
Adams Rubble: and still suffering
Fael Illyar: searching for happiness is a mistake. As long as you search, you won’t find it.
Adams Rubble: OK
Adams Rubble: but we can talk about this with people all over the world
Adams Rubble: our common threasds, so to speak
Adams Rubble: threads
Adams Rubble: neat!
Faenik: could be
Riddle Sideways: we can talk about the weather, religion and governments just like we always have
Adams Rubble: just with more people :)
Riddle Sideways: many things just stay the same
Riddle Sideways: like my grandfather was always saying
Riddle Sideways: this world is going to hell in a hand basket
Adams Rubble: hehe
Riddle Sideways: and I stilll think it is
The benefits of quick jumps in sentence subjects, topics, threads, etc. were just as meaningful, to me, as which was actually being said.
Adams Rubble: we seem to have multiple themes this morning :)
Adams Rubble: for us, not Fael :)
Fael Illyar: no, just the one we started with :)
Fael Illyar: reality :)
Riddle Sideways: I was thinking the theme was about multiples
Adams Rubble: Oh. and Fael, morning, not for you
Adams Rubble: now
Fael Illyar: yes, afternoon
Riddle Sideways: and it is growing dark here in SL
Adams Rubble: we can fix that :)
Riddle Sideways: lol
Riddle Sideways: that is what I have been talking about
Adams Rubble: OK :)
Riddle Sideways: if I don’t like my current reality
Riddle Sideways: I can make an adjustment
Adams Rubble: in the virtual world
Riddle Sideways: the menu controls might be different in other
Adams Rubble: and there is the sun :)
Riddle Sideways: worlds, lives and realities
Adams Rubble: yes :)
Riddle Sideways: ah well
Faenik: なるほど^^
Riddle Sideways: the dream, dreamer and non-dreams are getting confused
Fael Illyar: mixed up would be more accurate, I’d think :)
Riddle Sideways: true
Riddle Sideways: intertwined also
The slow defining, throughout this session, of tools versus what tools are used for.
Adams Rubble: I was thinking….
Adams Rubble: all this new technology
Adams Rubble: simply gives us new tools
Adams Rubble: not all that different from a shovel
Fael Illyar: well, except in what you can do with them :)
Adams Rubble: of course :)
Adams Rubble: but tools
Adams Rubble: not reality
Riddle Sideways: yes, we have always used our tools to shape our realities
Adams Rubble: virtual reality is also a tool
Adams Rubble: it is a new way we can be together and cimmunicate
Adams Rubble: communicate
Adams Rubble: experience new things
We are flitting through many different “Points of View” of probably the very same thing.
Riddle Sideways: as in the Pema and his wife’s paper (a several other) I was reading
Faenik: ah :)
Riddle Sideways: I can communicate with you
Riddle Sideways: when my social and geographic location
Riddle Sideways: would not have allowed us to talk
Adams Rubble: …and we don;t feel the distance
Fael Illyar: yes, distance is becoming much less meaningful
Adams Rubble: except for time zones
Adams Rubble: they get in the way
Fael Illyar: those aren’t directly related to distance though :)
Adams Rubble: :)
Riddle Sideways: thankfully, for me, most of you have picked english to converse in so I wont have to learn something else
Adams Rubble: Yes!!!
Fael Illyar: Well, it is the most widely known language in the world.
Adams Rubble: We Americans can be weak in other languages
Fael Illyar: Adams, which I think is a disadvantage.
Adams Rubble: yes, it is a failing, Fael
Riddle Sideways: but the idea that I did not have to walk into your university building, your temple or your home to have this chat
Adams Rubble: yes, exactly
Adams Rubble: soooo convenient
Fael Illyar: Yes, very :)
Faenik: indeed?
More about tools shaping reality and reality shaping tools. This symbiotic relationship of Being (though we never said that word) and tools/stuff (playing?).
Riddle Sideways: I wonder how you will alter your reality with tomorrow’s tools
Adams Rubble: Well any predictions will be much like those of the 60’s, and 20’s and before :)
Adams Rubble: We’ll get some of it, not all
Fael Illyar: hard to say, the truly revolutionary tools change the world in ways the creator never predicted
Fael Illyar: Some are easy, those are just old tools refined.
Adams Rubble: yes
Riddle Sideways: I was thinking of how my telephone has (and will) change over the years
Riddle Sideways: I had a rotory dial
Riddle Sideways: and now I need a hands-free
Adams Rubble: I still have one :)
Fael Illyar: telephones as a separate device will likely vanish… well, it might still be called telephone but it’ll be more like wearable computer
Riddle Sideways: my Treo with bluetooth is very close
Fael Illyar: my cellphone is also quite close. It’s several times faster than the first computer I had.
Fael Illyar: as a computer :)
Adams Rubble: my toaster oven is more powerful than the first computer I had
Fael Illyar: Yes, quite likely :)
Riddle Sideways: yes, my first computer had 256 bytes
Adams Rubble: toasts better too
Riddle Sideways: but my first computer had enough heat to keep my coffee warm
Adams Rubble: :)
Riddle Sideways: what I was thinking about was
Faenik: could be
Riddle Sideways: when I went to the grocery store
Riddle Sideways: I used to have a slip of paper
Riddle Sideways: now I have to call from aisle 3 to ask if we need milk
Adams Rubble: :)
Fael Illyar: haha :)
Adams Rubble: not sure that is a technology issue :)
Riddle Sideways: but it is a tool issue
Fael Illyar: I tend to remember myself what I need … although that’s mostly because I live alone. If I didn’t, I’d have to check before leaving for shop.
And, more examples of tools shaping our lives which in turn shapes more tools
Adams Rubble: One of the issues with technology is the way we find uses for the tools
Adams Rubble: when IM-ing first became popular
Adams Rubble: I wondered about it
Adams Rubble: seemed email works as well
Adams Rubble: but here it is a basic part of SL
Fael Illyar: it’s the realtime part that’s different with email and IM
Faenik loves wells!
Fael Illyar: with IM, you generally have minutes, maybe hours to respond. With email, often days
Adams Rubble: not to argue the point, it is HOW one uses the tool
Adams Rubble: and who
Riddle Sideways: with this chat, I am already late responding
Adams Rubble: with whom
Adams Rubble: :)
Fael Illyar: Of course but those times you have to respond also mean it hold for the other side
Fael Illyar: with IM, you’re usually guaranteed a fast response or you can assume no response quite fast
Adams Rubble: :)
Fael Illyar: with email, you can’t
Riddle Sideways: it still comes down to ‘what’ you have to say
Riddle Sideways: but, I would have never been having this conversation with total strangers
Oh well, the following is where I go off on my reactions to 3 C/NET articles/blogs with comments about Generation-Y’s comfort with technology versus the establish business world departmentalizations.
Adams Rubble: I see your point; young people use it differently - has become an integral part
Riddle Sideways: the other article I was reading was how gen-Y
Faenik: why not?
Riddle Sideways: is using technology to bypass business practices
Riddle Sideways: that were thought of as musts
Riddle Sideways: biz straita
Riddle Sideways: that enterprises think they must have
Riddle Sideways: can be done on their laptops
Riddle Sideways: rather then wait for the IT dept.
Fael Illyar: what kind of things do you mean?
Riddle Sideways: when my brouther-in-law graduated law school
Riddle Sideways: he was use to doing everything on his laptop
Riddle Sideways: the first partnership he went to
Riddle Sideways: insisted he send everythin to the steno pool
Adams Rubble: :)
Fael Illyar: steno pool? what’s that?
Adams Rubble: haha
Riddle Sideways: :)
Adams Rubble: Stenographers
Adams Rubble: they tyoe what people say
Adams Rubble: type
Riddle Sideways: see big business does not have rooms of typewriting automatons
Adams Rubble: not laughing at you Fael—
Adams Rubble: it’s the march of technology
Adams Rubble: how things become obsolete
Riddle Sideways: the mail dept is getting obsolete
Adams Rubble: relegated to the cobwebs of history
Adams Rubble: to be studied by scholars of archaeology
Fael Illyar: Ah, something really archaic (at least on my view of things)
Adams Rubble: yes :)
Adams Rubble: Older lawyers not able to do their own typing
Riddle Sideways: or airline travel to have yet another meeting with the 3 of us
Adams Rubble: :)
Fael Illyar: Ah, so they … write it with pen on paper and then send it to someone who will use a typewriter?
Fael Illyar: or dictate?
Riddle Sideways: except I would like to fly to Kyoto to meet with you all over sake
Riddle Sideways: :)
Adams Rubble: in Riddle’s example they say it and it is written down
Adams Rubble: Riddle, :)
Riddle Sideways: there use to be a technology called “shorthand”
Riddle Sideways: that people learned for writing really fast
Adams Rubble: little marks for words
Riddle Sideways: they could take dictation
Adams Rubble: we sound like a couple of old times, Riddle
Adams Rubble: timers
Adams Rubble: back in our day…
Riddle Sideways: 1. we are
Adams Rubble: haha
Riddle Sideways: 2. it is so easy to become
Faenik: could be
Fael Illyar: Yes, you just need to be :)
Adams Rubble: No talent needed, just stay alive
Adams Rubble: :)
Fael Illyar: you mean staying alive doesn’t require talent?
Riddle Sideways: lol
Adams Rubble: not a whole lot, Fael
Fael Illyar: Well, I suppose it stops being called talent when almost everyone has it :)
Adams Rubble: :)
Fael Illyar: but it’s pretty much the same thing ;)
Riddle Sideways: staying alive has always (and will always) be a very tough talent
Riddle Sideways: some can’t do it
Riddle Sideways: with the price of gas, bread, housing
Adams Rubble: !!?!
Riddle Sideways: use to be dynosaurs would get the un-talented
Adams Rubble: In some cases it not knowing what wonderful, beautiful things can ahppen over the years
Riddle Sideways: hello, clearly
Fael Illyar: Hello Prosper
Prosper Telling: coming and going here
Adams Rubble: Hello Propser
Adams Rubble: Posper
Adams Rubble: Prosper
Riddle Sideways: sorry, did not see you
Prosper Telling: I got my timing off by an hour it seems
Riddle Sideways: oh dear, I also did not see the time
Adams Rubble: Yes, me neither
Adams Rubble: These sessions seem to go faster and faster
Riddle Sideways: my wearable PDA, phone and nag alarm has not told me I need to go
Riddle Sideways: :)
Adams Rubble: :0
Adams Rubble: :)
Fael Illyar: Well, looks like we are ending the session now. :) See you later Riddle :)
Adams Rubble: Yes, bye everyone :)
Fael Illyar: Bye Adams, Prosper :)
Riddle Sideways: ha, I am late for a meeting across the internet
Prosper Telling: Next session is at 1:00 PM?
Adams Rubble: :)
Fael Illyar: yes, 1pm
Fael Illyar: SLT
Riddle Sideways: yes, prosper
Riddle Sideways: have a good day all
Prosper Telling: Yeah, my math skills were off an hour
